Redmi Note 8 Pro Video Oversharpening Issues (YouTube, MX Player, and etc.) - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

So after I bought this phone, I've found an issue while it's small, it's still super annoying.
The hardware video decoder tends to over sharpen the videos. It's happening on YouTube, Netflix, MX Player, and probably any video player that takes advantage of the HW decoder. But if you uses the SW decoder, you won't find the oversharpening effect happened.
I made the comparison there: https://slow.pics/c/39Wjz6wS
if you can't open the link, you can compare it on the attachment below.
The oversharpening effect looks unnatural and ugly. It's even worse if you watched it on the phone. Especially if you use the full screen option. (e.g.: fit to screen on MX Player, and full 1080p on YouTube app)
I'll already reported this on the feedback app, and if you think this a dealbreaker, please report it too on the feedback app.
Thank you.
There's also many people on MI.com thread that complained about this. So yeah...

Yeah this problem is very big for me and I already report the problem long time ago since MIUI 10. They still not fix the problem in MIUI 11.0.3. Let's hope they will fix the problem in Android 10 update.

With the releases of Redmi Note 8 Pro custom rom, are any of you still have the oversharpening issue, or it's gone when you installed the custom rom?
If it's gone then, it's a MIUI fault.

*such a bad luck. . .get terribad experience with Xiaomi mediatek powered device twice (Redmi Note 2 be the first)
if, this problem still exist in MIUI 12. .then i'll throw this phone with another Snapdragon thing again.

AFAIK for Video Playback oversharpen. .disable HW overlays on Developer Options was help a bit. But need to re-enable every reboot.

Oh i almost forgot this issue, BUT.. It is fixed on MIUI 12 China Beta. Sorry for late reply because i just realizing this couple days ago.
Video Playback on any platform, Like Youtube app is great, not oversharpened anymore. Dunno about AOSP ROM tho', but this must be bug on MIUI 11 i suppose..

Don't use HW decoder, use SW decoder to remove the oversharpening effect. I think it's caused by Mediatek hardware decoder settings.

Trinity HTC Camera Problem

Maybe lots have come across the video playback problems with the HTC Trinity - the annoying green screen instead of the video playback.
I've recently realized that all the problems are caused by the HTC Camera. The video files are being played smoothly until you start the camera.
Upgrading the camera program didn't help. Is there anything I can do to solve this issue?

i think that you must change your software rom ... it must be a codec problem ...
I've tested several roms (WM5 & WM6) - every time the problem is identical - I've never had a ROM with proper video playback. I thought that this is common issue until I realized that the camera software caused it.
I don't understand what do you mean by video files are being played smoothly until you start the camera...
why do you start your camera if you're playing your videos?
No ... I usually don't watch videos while taking pictures
I watch videos ... everything is cool ... then close player ... than start camera ... taking photos etc. ... I close the camera ... if I want to start watching videos again - I can't.
Does anyone have solution?
I had the same problem as you but i never managed to track down what i did differently each time for the green screen, all i knew was that if i watched a video, i knew i would have to restart because otherwise ALL videos would show the green screen. I have solved the problem now by just updating my Coreplayer/TCMP player.
Have you found another cure yet?

I use latest version of both ... this does not solve the problem (at least my problem )
Oh no, i thought that would of fixed it. I guess i havnt used mine enought to discover its still bad. Lets hope someone finds a cure
Thank you in advance
Unfortunately it turns out (this is just my opinion of course) that the cure will be new camera application or new video driver.
Who will do it ... HTC genius engineer stuff ... I don't think so ?
Just think of the problems with TyTn II users and guess when this will happen

1080p Playback on Beanstalk 4.4.278

My Acro S is running Beanstalk 4.4.278. Great rom so far but 1080p playback (specifically on MX Player) does not work. Freezes and reboots my phone when I try. 1080p recording with latest Google Camera works like a charm but its frustrating I can't view any of them. I haven't tried playback on any other video players though. I removed the video player that came with KitKat or the rom btw so I can't try that too.
Any help or advice?

Just tried it (since I had never tried it before you mentioned it) and it works fine. The video is a little juttery, but I can live with that.
Running BeanStalk v4.4.285, on the same phone.. Kernel is 3.4.0-Evovle-v1.11+ [email protected]
I think you might want to upgrade to the latest version - that might fix it.

Thanks for answering
Any notable bugs on 4.4.285? I might upgrade if that will fix the playback problem and if there aren't any annoying bugs..

There are two that are a bit annoying (again, not everyone has these though, so you might get lucky).
1. Sometimes when a call comes in, the screen will either stay blank and take a while to light up (by which time the caller has hang up)
2. Sometimes streaming a video online (with any player, not just MX) will crash and force the device to reboot when you try to exit watching the video.
These are the two major issues that I find on my phone. Never the less, I still prefer this version to stock, so I have been using it for more than a month now and I am very happy.

[Q] What are these pink lines on my videos?

Getting these artifacts on YouTube videos regardless of video quality, even get them on my stock video player, have to change decoder in MX Player from HW to SW. Phone is Samsung Galaxy Grand with CM 12.1 but the issue has been present since stock.
Screenies below.

No, get this on almost all players barring some exceptions. I get this on MX Player too unless change the decoder to S/W decoder. You're using the same phone as me, are you sure you're not getting this at all?

No problem here with all the roms I used and tested.
Like I said it could be a rom/driver problem, but when you have that since day one on every rom then I would be thinking of a hardware problem

The same problem was happening with me. Then I erased and then formatted the "system", " userdata" and "cache" partitions and then flashed the fast boot MIUI ROM.
After that I don't have that problem.
I did a clean install of Mokee 5.1 Release 160309, using kernel stock, and nano Open Gapps.
I've been testing it for a week and definitely haven't faced the music bug anymore!
Enviado desde mi HM 1SW mediante Tapatalk
add this line to /system/build.prop
ro.qualcomm.perf.cores_online=2
And reboot you won't get audio stops but battery backup will get effected as two cores always stay active

YouTube app not allowing me to play videos at 60fps

Hello ,
I've been using Redmi 1S since last 1 year. I'm currently running CM 14.1 and I always switch between roms.. Few days back I reverted back to miui 8 v.8.2.1.0 and everything was working fine until I figured out this issue with the Youtube app which is not allowing me to play videos at 60fps while I was able to do so on every other rom I've tried & yes I make sure that the video was in 60fps.. The same video was playing at 720p 60fps on other roms but not on miui 8.. I did everything to figure out the solution.. I can play at 720p but not at 60fps.. I've also searched everywhere to solve the problem but none of them worked.. If anyone else facing the same issue or know how to solve this, please do let me know..
Thank you for reading, have a good day.
