OTG and my new A505UI (or why is it so much difficult than with a SSG S5) - Samsung Galaxy A50 Guides, News, & Discussion

Have had my A50 for a few weeks and enjoying it. Previous owner of a S4 (suicidal in early 2016), replaced by a wiry SSG S5 that started with android errors every few seconds under ANY situation, and now this A50. With OTG on my two earlier ssgs, OTG was very easy and quick. I could plug in OTG cable only and S4/S5 recognized the cable connection right off, then connect a keyboard, speakers, a usb stick, even at one time an external hard drive (really!). Now with this A50, initially it took me forever to get the OTG cable to be even recognized at all by the A50, BUT when I finally got OTG status, it's still a complicated process to just recognize whatever device you want to be connected with the A50!! If you want to transfer data, pictures, etc, it's another several steps to do that, NOT the very simple OTG using the S4 or S5 as source or destination. WHY did the OTG process get so difficult when it was so simple and worry-free previously? Thanks anyone for your input and/or experiences!

Need OTG Advice/Information

Hello,
Long time lurker. First time poster.
I have a 10.1 Note Model # SM-P600 that I have set up in my car. Currently, the charging works fine via micro USB to engine/ignition accessory. Now that I have the initial steps completed, I am looking to add more stuff to the setup. I purchased a USB hub in order to connect a few different devices (USB DAC, External HDD, Camera, etc) along with a few different OTG cables. So far, I have not had any luck charging the device (although, I am able to access devices connected to the hub via the OTG cable). I understand that this is a common problem, and it seems that it has been solved on some devices (Nexus 7) by installing different kernel's and USB ROMs (not sure what this is?). However, I have only seen one bit of information in regards to the SM-P600, and that is the BinDroid kernel that I have found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2615959&highlight=otg
I flashed the kernel correctly (I believe, I see the kernel information showing up in my device information), but I am still not having any luck getting the device to charge while having the other pieces of equipment attached. Can anyone give me some good solid info on this problem? I thought I'd be able to install the kernel and that would fix my issue, but maybe I'm missing a few steps? Do I need to install something else? I am currently on the stock ROM, version 4.3. I was thinking about putting CM10.x on the tablet, but I don't think that it's supported...? I need a bit of clarity on that as well.
Please help if you can. Thanks!
P600 needs 2A current. I think when you attach other equipment to the USB hub, it may not be able to provide enough current to note so it will not charge. I am not an electrical engineer so someone with more knowledge can of course prove me wrong
Generally when your device is connected with an OTG cable, your device is working in as a USB host supplying power to the devices. In your case, your Note will try to supply power to the USB hub. Even if your USB hub is powered by a separate adapter, your Note will not attempt to charge as it is in USB host mode.
You might wanna take a look at this mod.

[Q] Has anyone managed to get USB OTG + Charging working (preferably in software!)

I've searched and found various posts from a long time back that seem to imply it's possible but haven't been able to find anyone saying they've actually done it.
I want to be able to use an OTG cable with a usb y cable, to allow me to plug in a usb device and charger at the same time. Note I want to charge the phone itself, I am not trying to supply power to the usb device.
International HOX running CM11 latest monthly, in case it's relevant.
(I'm retiring my HOX and thinking about using it as a mini server - I want to plug in ethernet by USB adaptor to provide the network and charger to keep the phone running 24/7 )

Can't Get Mirco to USB OTG to work

Hey Guys,
I recently bought a Micro to USB OTG cable but unfortunately can't get it to work on my new S Tab(10.5).
I am able to get it to work on my Galaxy S3 phone and old Nexus 7 tab so it appears that the cable works fine. My S Tab is not rooted and currently does have the latest updates. I also ran the OTG checker which verifies that my tablet has the necessary files. When I run the OTG troubleshooter tho it does not appear to be picking up my cable at all.
I originally bought this to use my wired 360 controller on my tablet, the 360 controller and flash memory sticks are the only things I have tested on the cable itself. Like I said above, my S3 and Nexus 7 picks up these 2 devices just fine through the cable.
Anything that I am missing? Any tips/quirks to get this to work?
Thanks so much for your time/help!
P.S. attempted to post link to my exact cable but couldn't because I am a new member.
Are you willing to have device root and flash a custom kernel?
If yes, then my SkyHigh kernel does support OTG and has in-built XPAD (XBOX) controller module and confirmed working by another user. Some games may require you to map the controller with a certain app, some without.
FS support is dependent on kernel. If you are trying to mount NTFS r/w, then you will need to also install Paragon app or navigate to /mnt/ntfs/.... for kernel NTFS r/o
It's possible that it could be your cable. I had problems a couple years ago with an otg cable not working on my Note 2 but working in a couple older devices. It turns out it was because the micro usb end that plugs into the phone was too short to plug in all the way. I'm not sure if it's a new standard or something, but my Note 2, Note 8, S5 and Tab S all seem to have a cable with a longer micro usb tip than any of my previous devices have.
Hold the otg cable next to the charge cable that came with your Tab S and see if the tip of the otg cable is a couple of millimetres shorter. Also plug the charge cable into the tab and notice the way it kind of "clicks" into place when you push it in the last little bit. Now plug in the otg cable and see if it has the same "click" feel. If not, then I'd bet it's your cable. I have an otg cable that specifically states that it's for an S5 and it works perfectly on all the devices mentioned above. I also have a generic otg cable that works on my old galaxy nexus but doesn't work on any of the above devices.
Here's the old thread in case that helps:

Thanks for the reply's.
I don't really want to go down the Root road because I have never gone through that process and don't feel comfortable with it at this time.
The cable Micro pin portion definitely doesn't fit as snug as the S Tab charger. The OTG cable actually appears to be longer than my S Tab charger Mirco pin. When plugged in you can tell it sticks out a smidge....The thing with that though, it does the same exact thing on my other 2 devices that work with the cable.
Guess it could be the cable, just hate to send this back and order another and be in the same boat.

Cable or no cable, if you wish XPAD controller, then you'll need the kernel or loadable kernel compiled module. Other features (some I described) also require kernel. ... all requiring root.
Since you've ruled that out, you just need to forget many features that are available with some other devices and move on.
Best of luck.

Usb stuck no longer works

Afternoon all,
Just out of interest anyone notice that they can't transfer files over OTG USB anymore mine was working fine a few weeks ago. Bought myself a USB C stick recently and thought I'd transfer some videos across but it's not recognised. Did think could be usb but the other one that I usually use via Samsung adapter doesn't work either. But work in s4 tablet. Last update was May and just security I believe. Cheers
Yes my SM-G960W S9 just randomly decided that USB file transfer should stop working and OTG devices are not recognized any longer. USB charging properly. Any storage device when connected the phone says device connected for charging. My wife's phone same and purchased same time is working fine. Tried many things like cleaning contacts different cables different memory sticks. All of which work on her phone. Have fun figuring this out. Been trying for months.

Is it possible to charge my Note 4 whilst also accessing USB via an OTG cable?

I have a USB OTG cable that I can use to connect USB devices like flash drives, keyboard etc. and that works fine, but for some reason my phone won't charge whilst the OTG cable is plugged in.
Am I missing some really obvious way of getting this to work? Is it software based? I'm rooted and running Lineage OS if that makes any difference. I've tried several different OTG cables, I've tried connecting to different power supplies, different USB cables, different outlets, I've tried going into developer debug settings - nothing seems to get it to charge and data at the same time.
I am also interested in the topic. Trying to run Octoprint for Android and charge at the same time. I bought an OTG Y cable and the problem is that the phone is either charging or communicating with the 3d printer. Never both at the same time. I've researched quite a bit on google and it turns out at least on some devices the required effect can be achieved but I haven't been able to find anything about huawei devices. It is most probably a software limitation.
The same problem but i have Samsung J5 2017, i have rooted device so there is option to modify system files
Gosh! Would love to get this working. Any news?
