usb doesnt connect to pc (pc doesnt even recognize phone) - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

I've tried multiple pcs, multiple cords, and opening the phone to see if the usb had dust, and the phone only charges, doesn't connect to the computer at all (doesnt appear in device manager, no notification, nothing.) Should I get replace the usb area or try something different?

You need to activate developer options by going to settings - and tapping on build number many times until it says you have activated developer options
Goto developer options set Default USB configuration to file transfer - your phone will now connect to PC and you will be asked to install the USB drivers.
This will install all the USB drivers you need
{If you want to connect a usb stick or mouse to USB ( stuff that needs power [NOT PC] you need to activate USB OTG first}
If this has all been done and it still doesnt work replacing the usb board may be necessary.

Does it connect in download mode? (maybe also try change MTP etc) Different mode uses different USB drivers etc. Have read sometimes a USB port seems to become disabled in one mode but will work in other.
Make sure your USB driver is good. Are you using the same drivers from some "dodgy" website if so uninstall and just allow Windows to find drivers or get from samsung.
You may be able to enter the USB service menu and change settings by entering *#0808# in dialer then select MTP (or maybe *#7284# & set to PDA)
But connector/power board may have a problem

same problem in download mode is not detected.
I changed drivers but the problem persists.
when I 'll branch pc displays a notification at the bottom next to the date indicates an unrecognized USB device.

Turn phone off. Remove battery & SIM (though I think it's probably the battery that does the trick). Reassemble & your USB may be back if it's none of the other things and it's not hardware .......:fingers-crossed:
(If it doesn't work 1st time do it again but only reassemble after a minute or two to be certain all power is drained from caps etc.)

Cannot get ze551 to detect in Windows, tried everything

Friends,
I've searched through all the threads here and on zentalk but still no good.
I have a ze551 with Superzen, phone works fine however I cannot get it to detect in Windows.
Nothing shows up in device manager, I've tried USB Debugging, MTP and PTP. I've tried 3 different computers (2 x W10 and 1 x W7) and still no good.
The only detection I manage to get is a split second of MOOREFIELD showing up when powering the phone on.
I want to flash MM but cannot adb sideload due to this USB detection issue, any ideas?
What drivers did you install? When I first connected the phone to a pc I installed the Asus drivers but nothing worked. Everything began to work after installing the Intel drivers

try to revoke all usb debugging authorizations from developer options. then disable usb debugging and disable developer option and enable again. now enable usb debugging again. now connect to computer. now run command "adb devices" and authorize from phone.if u still have issue try changing usb cable.
I've tried the Intel drivers., the problem is the phone doesn't even get detected by windows, there's nothing showing up in device manager.
I do however get charging from USB.
I've tried USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports in 3 different computers, no detection.
It used to work fine, now it has just stopped working. Maybe the USB chip is fried or something.

may or may not. may be usb cable broke down data wire, may be connector issue. have you tried above said tips?
Hey,
I got the same problem, and the quick charging takes 7 hours or so, but I should mention previously that in my case the USB port was damaged, so I changed the whole dock. After change tried all other cables including the Asus official cable, still no joy. It looks like some updates made a big fuss in the phone or ... the motherboard is burnt? I tried on different computers with and without Android Intel USB drivers installed, but the problem is the computer cannot see the phone - I'm getting the message that the phone is not sending its designator. I have not rooted my zennfone, but when I try adb to see if the phone is mounted it's not. I was planing to root it now, but it looks like I cannot do anything. I'm affraid that there is something wrong with the hardware. I did started also SMMI test and it loops testing bluetooth, so definitely there is something wrong, but yet I have not figured out.

I have tried all drivers, the phone was working fine on my windows install and suddenly stopped.
I believe this is not a driver issue, it is hardware issue with the port or with the rom (superzen).
I will try to flash other rom as I have custom recovery and see if it fixes otherwise the port is busted.

Phone only charges when connected to PC

As stated in the title, When I plug my phone into a computer, it only charges. The dropdown menu allowing you to select different options (MTP, only charge, etc) never appears.
Things I have tried :
- Cleaning out the USB charging port
- Multiple reboots (with airplane mode, without, with USB debugging on/off)
- Using different cables (2 of which I am sure can be used to transfer data as I've done it in the past)
- Different computers (My laptop has debian, desktop has windows 7. Also tried on a windows 10 computer)
- Updating firmware to 8.4.19 (recommended firmware for multiple ROMS)
- Dirty flashing to final Ressurection Remix release from a July nightly
- Searching google and crying
I would like to Format data and try another ROM, but without USB transfer and ADB sideload, my hands are kinda tied.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try ? Part of me thinks its a software issue because the usb-c cables fit in so tightly and snug inside the port. In the mean time, I've ordered a new charging port from aliexpress. I'm hoping I don't have to open up my phone though.
Thank you for your suggestions !

I also just realised I can plug in the little dongle and listen to music through wired headphones... Strange !

Nope, I can't see anything. It wasn't the case before, I used to transfer ROMS while twrp was loaded, no problem
So I just changed the physical piece (charging port) with a non-oem one, and nothing changed. Still charges, but won't connect to PC. I'm lost as to what I can now do

Tried OTG, I only get the "USB supplying power to attached device" notification. You reckon if I "hide" a rom in the / folder or some other top level folder, I can go ahead and format data and wipe everything. I wouldn't delete the Rom in the process ?

Put a rom on usb stick, reboot phone into TWRP, connect USB-OTG to the phone, get the stick into otg and go to install -> select storage -> usb otg (hit it) install the rom.
If your phone can detect the otg you should be able to install rom and firmware.

I tried that. It won't let me mount in TWRP. When i'm booted in the OS, only power is transfered through USB when I connect a usb key using the OTG dongle. No data. Oh well. Can't say I didn't try. At least the rom I'm using is good. I just wanted to upgrade to android 9.0 but it seems like that won't be happening.

As regards the attaching of files, you have to have a minimum number of posts to be able to do that.
As regards the USB, be a little more specific like what you are trying to do, which ROM you are running, whether you are rooted, what happens when you connect the phone to PC etc which will enable the members to help you.
There could be several reasons for this, but lets start with the basics.
Have you tried a different cable?
Have you selected File Transfer (MTP) from usb options?

I get a windows sound like its connecting then in the bottom right where the time is next to that is a root sign then I get a pop up saying exactly.....The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it. Recommendation.. Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it, your device may not be working properly. When I go to the Device Manager/Control Panel it doesnt do anything. I've tried to add adb to the path but maybe added it to wrong path now it won't come on. If there is a work around maybe to re-add to right path. Device Manager was fine before I added adb and added path as per internet search. Device Manager before would say something like error 39. I've tried MTP that doesn't get it to open up either.

I cant even root for the life of me now, Im on 8.0, I'm trying to just root the phone and to start the computer has to recognize it I understand but it won't, with my Oneplus 2 was fine,(I'm thinking maybe phone doesnt have the drivers built in to the file system, you know when you plug in and turn on MTP it shows the drivers app for Windows?) the only thing it errors plugging in.

On my son's pc running windows 10, I didn't have any issues connecting my OP3 to it and viewing files, nor did I have to install any drivers, same for Windows 7.
Hook phone to pc via usb cable.
Pull down notification bar and select "File Transfer" from usb options or go to Settings and search USB and select USB Preferences > File Transfer.
Browse phone from Window's file manager.
If still having issues, you can try and install Oneplus USB drivers, reboot pc and see if the phone can be recognized.

If you are running Win 10, you will have to disable driver signing before the correct drivers are installed. May be that was your issue.

Question Phone not connecting via USB

My first Poco F3 is completely unlocked and running a custom rom, still able to connect to PC even now.
I have a second Poco F3 that I was able to originally connect to my PC to debloat, hadn't needed to connect it to a PC till now. Today was the day I could unlock it but when I connect it via USB cable, original or otherwise, no usb options appear on phone and nothing shows on PC. I can use the same cable on my first Poco F3 and everything works fine. I've tried multiple cables, reinstalling drivers, restarting phone and PC, trying a different PC, enabling debugging tools, etc.
Nothing shows in "My Computer"
Nothing shows in Device Manager
No usb options on phone (default is set to File Transfer)
Nothing shows in CMD with "adb devices"
Charging still works
Is there anything I can do to at the very least unlock the bootloader? Or is this not fixable?
long shot... check the usb C port for dirt/dust/fluff blocking connection...
Most probably u debloated an app responsable for media transfer. If u can, revert what u debloated.

Did a factory reset thinking that may have been the case, still no good.
Tried cleaning out the port and still no good either
I still think it's Windows. Please can you try putting Ubuntu (or another Linux distro) on a USB, booting from that, installing platform tools (ADB/fastboot etc) and then running ADB devices. Windows is very finiky sometimes.
Edit: when you plug in your phone to the PC do you get a notification saying charging? Or is there no notification? Also does it start charging the phone?
There is a delay before it begins charging and the charging animation plays but yes it does. But then there is no usb notification. Will try ubuntu and report back
Booting into Ubuntu, before installing platform tools the first phone that I knew worked showed up and showed up in adb devices when platform tools was used. The second still didn't show up, exactly the same as on windows
Try downloading the installed stock miui rom from the update menu in the miui update menu and re-install it on the phone
Unfortunately reinstalling latest package didn't help
Can't think of anything else to suggest. Sorry
If the usb connection continues to be nonexistent, is there any way to at least unlock the bootloader without using the Xiaomi Unlock tool on the PC?
Are you sure the USB cable you're using support transfert file?

Yes. Used 4 different cables, 1 of which is the cable that comes with the phone. None work on this phone but do on the first phone.

Try to use this version of Mi FLash Tool (only for drivers) : https://xiaomiflashtool.com/download/xiaomi-flash-tool-20210226
Extract and launch the executable then drivers install
Something like this. You can plug in any usb stick and see if it is detected. Another way to check whether the port on the phone is working for data as well

I don't have anything like this but that reminded me of the usb-c to headphone adapter and that also doesn't work. Sound just plays out of the speakers.
Trying with Android Auto in the car, the car doesn't register a device connecting at all either.
Either the data transfer portion is somehow disabled on the device itself (which I would love to know how to enable it again if that's the case) or it's a damaged usb port. Just strange that it worked a week ago.
Something I forgot to mention, when I went to unlock the bootloader yesterday the phone did not show up anywhere except for in the ADBFastbootTools to debloat the software as a OnePlus device but then never showed up again.
