No OTA update after converting Unlocked to TMB - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

I converted my unlocked US Note 10+ to T-Mobile. I am not receiving any OTA updates. My phone says that I am on the current software with December 1st Security patch.(the package I flashed in Odin) SL8 There is a January update available SLB but my phone doesn't see it. I know I can just manually flash it but it's kind of inconvenient. Anyone else able to pull updates after converting? In the T-Mobile app my device shows as "Unknown device" so I'm not sure if I should go back to the unlocked US firmware or try to figure if I goofed along the way. Thanks for any help.

Did you use the non home csc when (and do the factory data reset after successfully) flashing the phone with T-Mobile firmware?
If you didn't then that can cause the issue your having with OTA.

Yeah I did that. I'll back up my data and flash the old update, factory reset, and then see if it'll pull the latest update. Thanks. I've read where a couple of people are having issues with ota updating

I brought my Sprint Note 9 to TM. I didn't flash anything, but couldn't get OTA updates. I know I could have flashed TM, but I was lazy. I called my TM experts. They called Samsung. Samsung looked up to see where the nearest Samsung tech was. It was at a Best Buy. She was in the Geek Squad area. She evidently flashed the TM firmware. After that I was able to get the TM OTAs. There was no charge for this. I happily upgraded to the 10+ 5G when TM got it. I love it! It also came with Android 10 on it.

So I flashed the old firmware, used the non csc file, hard reset and I still can't pull an ota. Not sure what's wrong.

This is normal since you brought your own device and didn't purchase it from T-Mobile.

Your not doing something right or have skipped/missed a step..
When flashing the t-mobile firmware do so in it's entirety. Be sure to use the userdata as well.
The flashing process is pretty easy and rather straight forward, but as a refresher follow the instructions at the bottom of this post

That may be the issue. The tutorial I used said not to flash the userdata. So when I do this again, I should flash the Tmobile userdata along with it.

I need help, I don't know wtf I was thinking, my sprint s6 is on CPF4 and sim UnLocked, I was going to upgrade to PL3, with Odin, run CF-Auto Root Next, Then TWRP, Then Flash TDH-JR v1.0 .... I Ran CF-Autoroot First like a idiot, I'm rooted on CPF4, tried to go ahead and remain calm and used Flashify to Flash TWRP, only to get stock recovery and if it worked was going to stay on CPF4 and figure something out but, this phone is Sim Unlocked, and I'm starting to worrying I'm going to lose it
UPDATE: SOLVED , NOW ROCKIN DEBLOATED. JAH, ITS BADASS, INSTALLING BLACKED OUT EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW!!! QUESTIONS JUST ASK, OR ILL BE BACK TO TELL WHAT I DID WRONG
Ps: HAHA AND IM STILL UNLOCKED USING METROPCS
Did you get sorted out or do you still need help? Typically if you update an unlocked phone's firmware, you will be locked again and will need to unlock. Not what you want to hear, I am sure, but that is as much as I know on the topic.
not for me. I am using an unlocked S6 Sprint now outside US and have been updating firmware so many times, the phone wont be locked again UNLESS you change the CSC (SPR, XAS...).

Interesting and I did not know that. How would the OP know if it was safe to upgrade? Check that his current (or prior version, not sure where he is in the process) was SPR and then proceed to use a TAR that was the same?

Not necessary either.
I did tried to download different tar files of the same Sprint firmware version which are SPR, XAS,... and guess what? They are exactly the same, even every bit.
That means, OP could flash any csc tar file, as long as its for s6 sprint (g920p***** tar file). The phone stays unlocked still.
The only thing that locked my s6 back was when i used Samsung phone info app to change the CSC. The phone rebooted and locked. I had to unlocked it again and it costed me some bucks...
How did you unlock your phone?

Sm-g960u1 att firmware

Hello,
I apologize if this has already been discussed. I searched the forums, but am having no luck. I have the u1 unlocked s9. I'm trying to flash it to have att firmware so I can use wifi calling. I used the samfirm app and was able to get the firmware that I thought I needed, but after flashing, I have no carrier apps or wifi calling. I have an s7 with wifi calling if I need to put the sim back in that for anything. If anyone can direct me on what files I need, I would appreciate it. I read somewhere that I just need the userdata file. I tried that with odin, but it fails to flash with fused 3 binary 1 error. The firmware on sammobile was slightly different from the samfirm app, but I couldn't get it without a premium account. G960U1UES3ARJ6 is my current baseband.
Thanks!

Have you gotten the October update? I fought with AT&T about wifi calling for months about this. They claimed they enabled it after I called but it never showed up in the phone app settings. They finally said it was because the phone was unlocked. When I received the October 1 update, it showed up in my settings. My wife has a Galaxy J7 and it showed up on her phone also after the update. I see some saying that it never showed though so make sure you have the latest Odin.

Yes. My phone says security patch level is November 1st. Att said I would not get it because my phone was an unlocked model. I get that, but from what I've read, I can flash the firmware on it to basically have the carrier firmware as if it was bought from Att. I dont know what files to get though. Did you use Odin for flashing it?

No, mine was the normal ota update. Don't expect to get any help from AT&T on this. They told me it wouldn't work on my unlocked phone yet now it does. I expect it to go away at any moment though.

Flashed TMobile firmware but no T-Mobile apps or splash screen

I just flashed the TMobile firmware through Odin and it looks identical to the unlocked firmware. The LTE did not change and I'm not getting video calling. Any suggestions?

You first need to flash the unlocked firmware (U1), then boot up with your Tmobile sim installed. You'll see something about carrier settings being applied, and then you can go flash the U firmware
Read carefully through the steps from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10+/how-to/n975u-n975u1-firmware-links-t3957648
I am seeing the same thing as stu5797.
I purchased a Note 10+ Unlocked (blue, 256Gb), since the Unlocked had better trade-in value on my old phone.
Went to https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10+/how-to/n975u-n975u1-firmware-links-t3957648 for flashing the T-Mo software, so I could get the carrier specific things.
Since I already had the U1 (as it was purchased unlocked), I did not re-flash the U1 package.
I installed my SIM card, booted the phone. Waited for it to say it was rebooting to apply carrier settings. Completed reboot. Shut down. Started in Download mode. Installed the USERDATA_TMB_N975USQU1ASGO_CL16450385_QB24967230_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5 from the "U firmware" link. Booted after the install, and proceeded to set up my phone.
After I had done some significant setup, my phone informed me that there was a firmware update ready to go. I let it install, and it upgraded from SGO to SH4. Downloaded Phone Info to compare against Stu, and found everything identical, with the exception of a single character. My product code is SM-N975UZBATMB.
I do not see an option for video calling, no T-Mo boot animation, and no LTE+ indicator. Not sure what else might be missing/different.
I hope this description is helpful in figuring out where Stu and I went wrong. More, I hope there is a fix that doesn't require wiping the phone, as I've probably invested 8+ hours in setup on this one so far.
Thank you for any assistance.
I figured it out and you wont lose any data. Install this in Odin in the CSC spot HOME_CSC_OMC_OYN_N975UOYN1ASH4_CL16618444_QB25286449_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT
from the "U firmware."
This wont wipe data and will give you all the Tmobile features like HD calling, 4g LTE, tmobile splash screen etc.
Hope this will help!

Yup, that did it!
Turns out, I had misunderstood the instructions to flash the U firmware alongside the Userdata file. The last time I fiddled with my firmware, it was all one file.
So I downloaded the TMB SH4 firmware, flashed the BL/AP/CP/HOME_CSC, and it looks to be working like a champ. Got the TMB splash on startup, 4G LTE icon, video call showing up in the dialer...
Thanks!

I do not expect that this will cost you OTA support. I started with the SGO U1 software, flashed just the TMB USERDATA (didn't actually get any of the other files in there, because I misunderstood the instructions), and still got an OTA to SH4.
Ford thanks so much for the nice gesture but I could not accept. You are a very generous person. The reason why I can't accept is I am not an expert on this subject and should buy you a coffee. I only flashed that home_csc TMobile file and everything seems perfect but I don't get otas( not a big deal to me)
When you flashed Ford, did you also flash that TMobile userdata file with the TMobile home csc and the other TMobile files? Thanks buddy
This is all still quite confusing. I wish there was an updated thread with a set of instructions on exactly how to change the stock Unlocked phone to a T-Mobile or other carrier model with pictures or even a video with step by step.
I should be getting my backordered Note10+ Unlocked from Sammy in the next few weeks and this is the first thing I am going to do is make it a T-Mobile device will all the apps and boot animations. I'd like to have all my ducts in a row with everything downloaded and instructions in hand so I can hit the ground running on day 1.

It will work the same as the previous models. When you get your device, out your TMO SIM card in and let it provision for TMO.
Download the TMobile firmware. You'll get five files. BL, AP, CP, CSC, HOME_CSC, and USERDATA.
I'm assuming you have ADB, FASTBOOT, and Samsung drivers all set up on your computer.
Use ODIN 3.13.1_3B to flash the new firmware. Just place the files in the appropriate spots. Use CSC and ignore HIME_CSC.
Put your phone in download mode. I believe this year you shut it off, then while holding both volume up and down, insert the USB cable.
Then hit start on ODIN.

I thought about it a little more, and it is possible that we will lose the OTAs. When I flashed the USERDATA, I wasn't properly fully on the TMB SGO. It is possible that the OTA was the one intended for the U1, and that is what I got updated. I will keep an eye out for when TMB releases an OTA after SH4, and see if I get it then.
I would expect it to work properly, given that the hardware is identical, and, at that point, will be entirely on the TMB firmware.
The order I did things in was:
U1 boot with TMB SIM card inserted
Waited for "Reboot to provision carrier data" or something like that (very shortly after booting, did not set anything up)
Waited for reboots to complete
Booted into Download Mode, installed TMB USERDATA (SGO) with Odin
Thought I was properly on TMB firmware because I saw WiFi Calling in my settings, so proceeded to restore from Samsung Cloud backups / copy data with SmartSwitch
Several hours into this, received notification of OTA update to SH4
Allowed update to complete, continued working with phone
Next day, realized I was missing TMB boot animation, noticed this thread
Read through, provided my experiences
Saw your post on the fix
Went back to original flashing post, saw my mistake
Didn't see the SH4 firmware in the "U Firmware" link, so tried to get it another way
Got annoyed with SamMobile, found and downloaded Frija, installed the framework files necessary
Used Frija to download SM-N975U/TMB SH4 firmware
Extracted files from .zip
Flashed BL / AP / CP / HOME_CSC. Did not flash the non-HOME CSC, nor the USERDATA, as either would result in a wipe of the setup I had done so far
Rebooted, got TMB boot animation, waited a while for update (sat at boot animation for maybe a minute, give or take, looked frozen, was not)
Checked the phone, found LTE icon now read "4G LTE", contacts now had Video Calling as an option.
Phone Info now shows "Phone Model" as SM-N975U (pretty sure it was showing as a U1 before)
As far as I can tell, everything thinks I have a N975U/TMB as this point, so I expect things to work as though it were.
Oh, also, the other versions from Phone Info no longer match what you had posted earlier, stu. Attaching the Firmware page screenshot.
Edit:
On further review, the "Available CSC Codes" has also changed.
Was: ACG, AIO, ATT, BST, CCT, CHA, GCF, LRA, SPR, TFN, TMB, TMK, USC, VMU, VZW, XAA, XAG, XAR, XAS
Now: BST, SPR, TMB, VMU, XAS, ATT, CCT, CHA, GCF, USC, VZW, XAA
I flashed to TMobile (flashed all files but userdata) from unlocked, no wipe. When I got into updates I get the following:
I get that as well pcriz. I am assuming to get TMobile otas you have to flash all files including USERDATA. Flashing userdata will erase data so you should use the regular csc when flashing if you want true otas.

Unlocked At&t Android 10 update outside US

Greetings,
I'm super new here, also a tech noob so pls be gentle.
I purchased an unlocked At&T Note 10+, and i am living in Malaysia. Little that I know At&T would never send updates to out network, and that I require an At&t SIM in order to get the updates. Currently I am stucked with Android 9, ONE UI 1.5, with no hope of getting anything higher than that.
My question is, how can i get the updates besides flashing a new firmware? I tried connecting to Smart Switch on my laptop, and all it can says is that my software is up to date on SJ8 (ATT).
Hope there's a way other than flashing. HELP.

Am in the same boat as you. In Malaysia and have the note 10 plus at&t version. How did you manage? I am using Odin and getting error message connection failed. Not sure what is the problem.
Can you point me from where you downloaded the firmware? I am suspecting that is the culprit.
Thanks!

I'm sorry but I don't think there's other way around, you'll need to flash another firmware.
I have an Unlocked Verizon Note10+, the first thing I did after getting it out of the box was flash the unbranded firmware (CSC: XAA).
Ever since, I've had OTA updates as quick as they're released for N975U1.

Right now i'm at nov 2019 security updates SJ8 (ATT).

Well, unfortunately I'm not sure about previous versions, however I'm leaving attached my SW information, my CSC is XAA.
You can download it from sammobile or frija (this is way faster).
Hope this helps,
Regards.
So, knowing you are a noob is half the solution already...
I highly recommend you look for Frija on the internet. Download the tool, search for the phone you have , it is a SM-N975U , and since you want to get rid from the AT&T version, you can install the SM-N975U1 version with XAA as CSC, that Samsung themselves push updates to. Even if they will not, you can always download the next revisions..
I assume you know how to use Odin..

No worries, as Odin and the phone check revisions and suitability. If not the right firmware, it should not write it.

I was able to flash the T-mo version, and currently my phone is tmo branded, so that worked, but everytime I try to flash back i get the SHA256 error. I do not know if it is because I am trying to flash the wrong firmware or I am doing something else wrong.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks everyone.

Ensure you don't any other usb devices plugged into the pc.
Thank you for the reply, that is not the issue though. Tested re flashing the Tmo firmware that is currently on it and it flashed ok. Its just tryign to reflash to the original unbranded that fails.
Got the answer. I needed to use the patched version of Odin

I am considering doing this to get the June security update. Any issues with using the "other" version of Odin? Is your phone still official. Also curious is stock advance messaging still works.
Thanks.

So I installed and it went back to the stock firmware. No longer do I have the tmobile bootscreen or additional software. What I am concerned with though is I tried an OTA update and I get: Your current software version isn't supported. Visit a service center.
What can I do about this?

If you used HOME_CSC, that might be your culprit.
I had this issue when I flashed TMO firmware on the unlocked phone. With me being lazy, I didn't want to start from scratch and flashed HOME_CSC to experience this exact issue. As soon as I flashed with full wipe, this issue was solved.

That was the issue. I factory reset from the phone itself and all is good now. I do NOT have the native advanced messaging though

Yes, that was the reason I initially put the tmo firmware on. So the samsung messages app had RCS. With the stock, I have lost it.

Thanks so much for this information! I was confused as to why it wasn't working. This worked like a charm!
