Tablet Mode? - Samsung Galaxy Fold Questions & Answers

Is there any way to make all the apps act like the tablet version counterpart when opening the Fold? For instance, YouTube. On my S4, you can scroll through comments on the right side while watching video on the left. Also Flipboard. You can flip through screens in a Tablet, but the Fold only lets you scroll vertically when open.

You can change dpi/minimal width, if it's high enough apps get into tablet mode or even big tablet more

yes.
even if you change the text/scaling to the Smallest in the Display Settings, its not QUITE there as a setting for "Tablet Mode". you end up at like 742 DP or something if i recall correctly.
Step #1: enabling Developer Options. -> Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information -> Tap the Build Number multiple times, until it says "You are now a Developer"
Step #2: back to Settings front page -> now, at the bottom under About Phone, you should see Developer Options -> In the Drawing portion -> Minimum Width: it should be around 742 DP like i mentioned earlier. -> now change this number to 800
changing it to 800 DP will ensure that your device will be in Tablet Mode all the time.
and since you're there in the Drawing portion: change the Window Animation Scale, Transition Animation Scale, and Animator Animation Scale to: .5x
this will cut all your animation and transition times in half.
it is the only way to use this device if you ask me.
good luck!

Thanks for the great tips!

I've set it to 850 and it's amazing :3

Any idea what it's set to on the front screen? I adjusted mine and I can't get it back

Tablet mode
You can simply try to change DPI for apps

you can try the simple way (which doesn't seem to work anymore on newer androids): turn OFF Developer Options, and Restart your Phone.
if not,
Settings -> Apps -> All -> Settings -> Storage -> Clear Data
that should do it for you. a restart after clearing might not hurt too.
good luck!

It is 327

Is there any way to set the front screen dp separate from the main screen? When I set the min width to 800, the front screen's app title becomes way to small to read... Or is there any way to set font size for the front screen app icons?

display fades out and other unnecessary effects

I recently reset my LG G3. Since it rebooted, the display seems to be too clever for it's own good with its effects. The display fades out or shoots up from the bottom; when I enter a lock code, each letter seems to appear from underneath like a bubble etc etc.
I don't like it, but I can't find anywhere to turn all the effects. Anyone got a clue to help me?
cheers

You can turn off (or change speed of) animations in Settings - Developer options: Window animation scale, Transition animation scale and Animation duration scale.

Built in content scaling large and small

First thing some of you might want to do is change the content scaling. Go to settings > display > content scaling. It sizes a bunch of things down so that they aren't so big. With this much screen space it's nice to be able to use it. Another thing that I did was to enable developers options to turn off the animations. Go to settings > about phone > click multiple times on build number and it will enable developer options. Go back > developer options > scroll down to the category drawing and turn all 3 animation scales to off. Hope everyone is enjoying their Note 7 so far.

Thats the first thing I did also but the icons are still so HUGE. I think the only way to fix it is to use nova but I think I will lose some features.
I use Nova Launcher and have for a long time. On my rooted Note 2 i cranked the dpi down in the build.prop. The icons aren't too bad with small scaling.

DPI Settings

I know for the S7 edge I was able to access the hidden menu (via nova launcher) for "condensed" which changed the DPI to fit more on the screen. I did not happen to notice that on the Note 7. Besides using ADB commands , anyone figure out how to sit more ? I see content scaling in the dsipaly menu which helped a bit. But I still see more on my S7 Edge screen in condensed mode then on my note 7. Having .2 bigger screen but seeing less doesn't make sense for me and may go back to the edge (though i like the spen )
The display settings have a section called "Content Size" or something. This is the same feature where you pick large or small... you actually picked this option when you did the initial phone setup as well. I think it's still way too damn big, but changing the DPI breaks **** too. Hopefully Nougat will make things a lot better like they do on the 6P.
Its under Settings --> Content Scaling. It is set to large by default.

I didn't have anything break but my device was running much slower when set to small.

If you want more on the screen go with 5x5 Screen grid, under home screen settings.

Setting to small doesn't break anything because it is a built-in setting. And it shouldn't slow down your device.
Using ADB wm density command WILL break some stuff... like Android Pay/Samsung Pay, and built-in apps will be incorrectly displayed.
can someone tell me what the STOCK DPI values are for "standard" and "condensed" mode? (it can be checked with DPI Checker from play store)

Themes / Apps / Mods Display density mod

For the sake of fun I enabled USB debugging and used adb to change the density of the display window from 420 to 320. Looks great on the large display and the amount of info you see compared to the default value might be interesting to some of you.
> adb shell wm density 320
> adb shell wm density reset ( to restore original value)
I used this trick in the past on many of my devices and it's now a habit.
Let me know if it works well for you..
Why not just change minimum width in developer options?
I use a dpi value of 1200...

In dpi, bigger the no., smaller the things on screen. So you ha e more stuff to see..
Mine is 1200 so everything is Tiny. I actually have to increase the font size to read everything

I tried 1200 DPI in developer settings which was fine for everything except the lock screen when I unfolded the phone while locked. It cut off the numbers on the left and right side of the keypad for entering my pin to unlock it. I use fingerprint recognition 99.9% of the time.

Yes. That is the only issue I have seen so far. I mostly use face unlock or finger as well.
I would like to just increase the font size on the front screen I've already adjusted the minimum width settings from the insider screen but the outside screen fonts are still to small . I've noticed that when you go in the minimum width settings from the front screen the numbers are different then when u go in from the inside screen and if you try and adjust them from the front outer screen they won't stick they just default to there original numbers ?
My sweet spot is 744dp and Font size in the middle.

I don't have much experience playing with them but they seem to be dynamic changing with other settings first of all the numbers are different when you go in from the inner screen and from the outer front screen
I'd just like to be able to bump up the size on the front screen already got the inside where i like it

On the cover display. Go to developer options, change dp. This will be the dp for cover screen
Just changed my minimum width to 740, awesome.

Are you saying change the minimum width DP from the front screen?
Coz i don't see any change dp setting option under developer options
Also changing minimum width numbers from the front screen won't stick they just default back to original number for me

I meant the minimum width. Like you said this can't be changed for outer screen.
Maybe you can adjust the font size to fit outer screen, then change the minimum width on inner screen until the font size is comfortable.

Which apps the text too small? I put in middle and text size for most apps are ok for outer screen.
If it is browser you can adjust the browser text size independently

All the front screen font is to small specify to name a few quick setting notification messages and chrome font and txt are way to small for me
I don't think theres a good way to increase the Chrome font size on android like there is on windows all you can do is expand it which not very good

Question What smallest width are you running

Just out of curiosity what smallest width number are you guys running? I know you can make some adjustments to display size/font size in display settings but I'm talking about the number you set in developer options. I'm running 512 looks pretty good to me. The options in display settings didn't allow me to go as small as I wanted.

Do you mean DPI or PPI?
If you are referring to PPI (jea 512 is the P6 Pro max) this does not change the actual PPI of the screen (obviously), only sets DPI scaling (ability to adjust the size of on-screen content).
Decreasing the value will give you larger icons and make text easier to read.
Increasing it will make on-screen elements smaller and fit more content on the screen.
You can also achieve that with the Pixel launcher built-in font & screen size options, so I don't really see the point here. (Settings -> Display -> Font size / Display size).

The point is pretty simple, the adjustments in the display settings only go so far. I want on-screen elements smaller than those settings allow. Smallest options in settings gives you a minimum width of 484 and I wanted a higher number. Guess I should have just said the smallest width settings in developer options.
510 here and much preferring it!

Hi! I'm sorry to bother you but I have a question, that is, you see my phone is oppo f9 and I have 432 dp and I'd like to change it to 700. Can I change it to that number? if yes, does it affects my phone performances? The "developer options" is quite new for me, so I'd like to ask before taking action
I have been running smallest width 720 for a few years now, which I think translates to something like 320dp. I ran the same on my previous Note phones. It takes me a minute to focus in the morning but I enjoy the extra space and viewing websites in full desktop mode instead of fisher price mobile versions.
It's really up to you to fiddle with the number until you find something that works for you, but I can verify 700+ works fine without breaking anything.
FWIW I ran it at 1024 for awhile too, that didnt break anything either but was too small for me. I don't know what the exact cutoff is but at a certain resolution you'll notice that Android and apps will flip over to a tablet experience. I prefer this, but it may influence your choice.
592 dpi also with 6 pro and 7 pro
anyone using Poco X3 NFC ? any suggestion on your smallest width ?
Only tried up to 800 so far. Maybe try 1024 once i very comfy w 800.
