LG G7 - Widevine L3 No HD/HDR on Netflix - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

Hi,
So recently I noticed my lg g7 only streams SD content on Netflix. I'm definite that earlier(a month back) I used to watch content on HDR. Plus I'm on yearly UHD plan and I tried watching titles with HDR tag.
I did not unlock or mess with the phone. So I'm not sure whose fault this is. Is it Netflix which removed HD for lg G7 or is it lg which downgraded the certificate (not sure if that is possible).

It should work with L1, probably some error with your current rom or it's region lock for India/Indian model g7/Netflix app (I guess).
G7 EM version, central Europe and resolution 1440p

I'm on stock rom and yes mine is Indian version and I live in India. But why loose the certification I was ae to play 1440 n HDR earlier. What do I do now? Should I take it to service center?

Do you have root or unlocked bootloader? (it can be one of variants).
Or maybe is some mistake in current stock rom. Wait for next security update or flash older.

im on stock pie 9.0
Have 710em
But cant get HD and hdr on netflix
İts seems widevine L3 now.
Bu 2-3 months ago i can get L1

LG V30+ H930DS Update (V10i-DEC-30-2017)

I just checked the update and there's an update for my H930DS (Indonesia/IDN), its V10i-DEC-30-2017. Does anyone already had installed this update? How's the update compare to the previous version (V10f), what are the improvements here? Especially the battery life?
Update: link to download (for H930DS Indonesia ROM)
http://csmgdl.lgmobile.com/dn/downloader.dev?fileKey=FW1DIAEE9249AVJ40AFEO03/H930DS10i_00_OPEN_ESA_DS_OP_1230.kdz
Dont forget to change user agent if you download using browser to:
LGE-ActiveDP/0.9
The same update seems to have been pushed out to H930DS phones for the HKG firmwares.
Interestingly, for these phones the version number is v11m - this is the first time I've seen LG use 11 in a firmware version.
(the firmware is Android 7.1.2 with the January security update)

Is it the same size as the IDN firmware update? only security update or is there any improvement? I dont want to screw up the-currently-great-battery-life. My previous LG G4 had better battery life before the latest update.
In India, we got the same update few day ago and it's just a security patch update which will bump it to January. And the battery backup remains the same.
Our updated version is V10d-IND
Just got this update on my V30+. Says V11m-DEC-29-2017
Size 773.87mb.
Not sure what phone usability and functionality has been improved. Would be nice to have a detailed explanation.

Seems everyone is getting the update, though the version number is varying. If you had installed the update please share your experience, especially the tangible one.

Biggest change in 1 January update is Netflix HDR video fix, now Netflix works fine for me on my LG V30+ H930DS HKG version. that was only complaint I had with V30 cuz I bought for multimedia. Camera on V30 is crap, worst on any 2017 flagship phone but I can live with that as I've also Pixel 2 XL and iPhone X.

Thanks for the finding, it might be useful for others. I dont use netflix though, since I already subscribe a cable tv and watch mostly only one channel.

Camera is definitely not crap. Note 8 might beat it in very low light, but even comparing Pixel 2 XL to V30 pictures, most in a random group chose V30.

It's a very good camera, actually. That's why I'm not even bothering worth the Pixel camera ports.

Doesn't 11 instead of the 10 mean that it is Oreo instead of Nougat?

No. Oreo will be 20 (test versions are 19). 11 denotes a point version change i.e. 7.1.1 to 7.1.2

Honor 7x Amazon Prime Version Rootable?

Honor 7x Amazon Prime Version Rootable?
I ask this question because I'm choosing between two phones: The Moto G5 Plus and the Honor 7x. I was reading the root situation with the Moto and comments were saying you couldn't root the Amazon version. So, I didn't want to make that mistake of getting an Honor 7x and having an unrootable phone if I get that particular phone. I'm leaning more towards the Moto due to its video recording qualities, but I wouldn't mind taking the Honor instead if the video camera was/is better on it.
There is no "Prime" version of the Honor 7x. The phone you buy on Amazon is identical to the phone you would get if you bought directly through Honor's website. They are identical.

General XDA Article: Netflix now supports HDR on Pixel 5a and Pixel 6 Pro series

https://www.xda-developers.com/netflix-hdr-pixel-5a-pixel-6/
January 27, 2022 12:50pm Corbin Davenport
Netflix now supports HDR on Pixel 5a and Pixel 6 Pro seriesUnlike most streaming services and platforms, Netflix insists on manually testing and certifying individual devices wherever possible, which is why Netflix wasn’t available on the Google Nest Hub until 2020. Netflix doesn’t enable HDR on mobile devices until after the company is done testing, which can sometimes mean new phones and tablets have to wait a while. Thankfully, three more phones have now been gifted access to HD and HDR10 streaming.
Netflix has now updated its list of compatible devices and features (via Android Police) to mention the Google Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro now officially support HD and HDR on Netflix. It has been a long delay for the Pixel 5a, considering that phone was released in August, but the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro only had to wait a few months. Netflix already supported HDR10 on the Pixel 3 and 3XL, Pixel 4 and 4 XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5. Many devices from other manufacturers are also supported, including phones and tablets from Samsung, OnePlus, Lenovo, Huawei, Xiaomi, Asus, and others.
The support page also mentions that not all content is available in HD or HDR, and streaming in HDR requires the company’s Premium subscription. That plan now costs $19.99 per month, after it was raised from $17.99/mo earlier this month. The Standard plan also increased at the same time, from $13.99/mo to $15.49/mo, which includes HD but not HDR.
Some Pixel owners reported issues streaming HD content on Netflix throughout last year, which was seemingly related to a bug with Widevine DRM. Not all Pixel devices were affected, and it’s not clear if Google has completely fixed that issue yet. You can check what Widevine levels are supported on your device with our handy guide — if you have Widevine L1, you’ll receive whatever Netflix supports for your device.

I couldn't tell that HDR was working but as soon as I touched the screen brightness icon it burst of light appeared even on the lowest setting!
Looks really good on the pixel display.

Question Can we install Global Rom on Chinese version?

If I buy the chinese version of Honot Magic 4 Ultimate (Or Honor Magic 4 Pro Plus), will I be able to install Global Rom in it?
I am not sure if Bootloader unlocking/ rooting are possible on this device yet.
The better question:
Can we install play store without the hassle of magic pro 3?
The chinese version already comes with Play store, so that is not an issue.
But I want to be able to install the Global ROM on the Chinese phone, I am not sure if that is possible yet.

Are you sure? Chinese vendors are saying that it doesn't come with it.
i saw a lot of videos where on the magic 4 pro there was google installed on it. i bought the ultimate yesterday, can't wait to have it in my hands. hoping with google, but if not there are some workarounds like on the huawei p50 pro
found this maybe it works on ultimate https://www.techyloud.com/how-to-install-google-play-store-on-honor-magic4-lite/

From what I understand, the problem is this:
Honor phones that are released in China (Chinese variants) don't have GMS pre installed and it's nearly impossible to install them. Why? Because apparently those China models for some reason still use some HUAWEI code in the software!
A reviewer from China - Michael Elsegood, said the following regarding GMS installation on chinese phones:
"Most Chinese brands you are able to install but because of Honors use of Huawei’s code it still doesn’t work here in China unfortunately"
video here
Global variants are different, they come with Google services pre installed.
But what global Honor phones are there? Honor Magic 3/3 Pro? Nope. Magic 3 Pro Plus? Nope. Honor Magic 4 Pro? No, still not out yet in Europe and there's not even an official release date. As of right now, we only have the crappy mid rangers and low end phones such as Honor Magic 4 Lite and Honor 50.
I'm pretty sure the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate will be CHINA EXCLUSIVE, meaning no Google services... Sure the UNOFFICIAL WORKAROUNDS to install google MAY still work, but there's no certainty... It's a big risk to buy such an expensive phone. Just my thoughts.
And yeah, some tech reviewers uploaded hands-on videos on YouTube with the international (non-China) model of the Magic4 Pro, and that's why it had Google apps and Google Play Store visible on the home screen.
I'm by no means an expert on the matter, just sharing my observations from everything I've read.
well, it is like it is, had the p50 pro global, and used only gspace or chinese ourplay. but found a lot of alternatives that work great. my other thing is, i'm scaried that other launchers can't be installed. now i bought the phone already but i had an older honor phone with chinese firmware and i couldn't install an other launcher. that was a big bummer for me

Yes, many Chinese manufacturers make it impossible to change the stock launcher so I wouldn't be surprised if it's the case.
According to Honor UK, the Magic 4 Pro and other devices are coming on May 12th. No idea about other countries. And there is no word on the Magic 4 Ultimate, so it's most likely gonna be kept for China only.

Some updates
1. OurPlay : initial installation didn't work, contacted their customer service and they were great. It's working. I can't for some reason install Chrome.
2. Gspace : doesn't work, same error message as i shared earlier, contacted their customer service, zero response.
I have been patiently waiting like everyone else for magic pro 4/ultimate to come out in the UK. I was told that they will be released for pre order tomorrow on the honor website site here in the UK. Only includes the Cyan/black colours. Also something else which kinda pissed me off was that they are only releasing a 256gb and 8GB ram version. Not even a 512gb/12gb ram version at the moment. Im trying to replace my Huawei p30Pro which has the same ram and hard disk space. Seems kinda stupid really, you think if it was a flagship they would release the high ends.
Also I did try to also speak to the guys on ebay selling the 512gb ones in hong kong, they said they cant install as global version ROM on the phone yet. i don't fancy using G space etc, had enough issues with it on my huawei tablet, in the end I sold it
tried gspace and some apps work, like tinder, dazn and gmail, all other apps don't work, but i don't necessary need them. For youtube i use vanced and it works grat. The unique app i can't get to work is netflix. Does someone has a solution?
