Screen on time - OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Real Life Review

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Here are my screen on time results with 60hz and FHD. Just experimenting with different settings to see the results. Honestly I don't feel battery is bad with auto resolution and QHD either I feel like this phone does very well on battery.

Not as good as the 6t but, it's pretty good.

Looking even more like the 6t screen on times now!

How do you guys set up your devices , so it can last so long?

My last screen shot was wifi, lte, no 5g, fhd, 60hz, printing service off, find my device off and I believe that's it. Honestly I don't see a dramatic difference in screen quality with these setting either. It's noticeable but definitely not THAT noticeable and honestly it's worth it if you need your phone to last for long periods between charges.

I get 5- 6 hours of SOT. 60/ FHD, dark override/ wifi filter/ all apps are optimized, location only while using an app, 5bg is off. WTF else need I do? I can't root it. Thinking about returning it to TMobile cus i heard that 5 g chip is always on eating the battery.

Yes, it does. I m returning mine tomorrow

I was getting quite good battery life on 10.0.19 but battery has taken a pretty good hit since the 10.0.25 update. I may try factory reset to see if that helps.

I'm pretty sure people with bad battery live have 90hz on and 5g on. And so do I, I get about 4-5hrs sot in a whole day of usage, between WiFi and 5g .. light gaming, texting, Instagram, Facebook, messenger and some other apps.

The problem is the 5G modem is pretty much on all the time. Even if not in use. There isn't really any way to actually turn it off. (Unless you get really creative and make your own firmware...)

That is actually not entirely true, I have the European variant of McLaren without 5G modem I this is by far the worst SOT I ever experienced on an OnePlus device. And I have had them since the beginning. I can barely scrape up 4h - 4.5h SOT over an 24-48h time period
on a full charge cycle. Note I'm not even on stock kernel so I would expect SOT be up 8-10h without any bigger problems. What I'm trying to make out if my battery is bad or the complete phone, and if that would come to that I would return it to the seller in flash.
Batt stats and kernel logs show active drain between 8-10% per hour and idle drain to 1.5-2.5% per hour. Numbers don't say much to me however active drain seems very high to me. I know that the display consumes a lot for sure but I'm not really sure if this is too high or not.
I'm on FHD+ resolution but with 90Hz refresh rate and adaptive background light. To summarize it all, I'm hugely disappointed with my device in perspective of battery life. Feel free to drop comments or suggestions on what I can do. Perhaps give some figures on idle and active
drain if you have them.

Did anyone try to select only 2G/3G/4G in Preferred Network type and then check the battery life/ drain?

Amazing battery life on the s8+
Battery life has been a bit inconsistent. Usually I get around 4 or 5 hours screen on time, though honestly my habit with all my phone Shas been to charge them whenever possible. If I'm driving, I set it on the mount and plug it in. If I'm at home or work and not using it, I plug it in (or in this case set it on the wireless charger). But I was fairly unimpressed with the S8+ battery life.
Yesterday and today, I turned on the medium battery power setting. It seems to have increased my screen on time dramatically, but I'm also at home and on wifi.
Medium decreases screen brightness by 10%, sets resolution to FHD+, underclocks by 30%, and turns off the AOD. Of these, the only thing I miss is the AOD, but it also seems to make the most difference in battery life.
Either way, my battery life today is much better. So far I've had almost five and a half hours of screen on time and 54% battery remaining. That's all surfing the internet, posting here, texting my wife, taking a few photos, and a little Facebook. I'd say that is fairly impressive.
I'll see how the battery holds out Monday when I'm away from wifi, driving through varying cell tower coverage areas. I'll also check how it is if I turn the AOD back on. I do like the AOD.
Really good for a stock rom
Bat Rom & Noto.
Could of got to 10hrs but was playing with themes which require reboots.

I don't notice any performance issues at all with it underclocked. But I don't do any gaming either, so that may be an issue for others.

On wifi or LTE because it seems impossible to reach those numbers for me.

SOT SOT SOT - Am I going insane, or am I not(e)?

Well at least I still have my (shady) sense of humor.
Hey guys.
2 weeks with the Note 10+, 256GB/12GB - Exynos. I keep seeing those wonderful SOT reports. 8 hours, 9 hours, 10 hours! I'm not even talking about those posting screenshots of 12-14 hours...
They all use WQHD. They all use Facebook. They even use youtube and netflix, on wi-fi and on mobile with more than 50% brightness, and they all get at worst 8 hours of Screen on time.
Little me, on the other hand, uses mostly whatsapp and text, reduce his brightness when possible, check for hungry apps all the time, yet even on Airplane mode, I barely get get to 0% with 5 hours of SOT.
What am I missing? What is the magic trick? Is it possible that I'm having some sort of a hardware failure? Bad luck?
Don't get me wrong, 5 hours of sot, compared to my dying and evil LG G4 is still amazing, but I just can't wrap my head around this difference between exactly the same devices, this huge difference.
Let there be light
and sot.
in the same boat as you are my friend.. note 10 + exynos is a ****ter..

Don't worry mate, those 8,9,10 hours of SOT are for people who watch lots of Videos like YouTube etc on their device and seldom use camera or do gaming on their Phone. SOT is very subjective and differs from person to person. I get 5 to 6 hours of SOT myself and is pretty happy with it
As others said it's hard to compare, for example weak cell/wifi signal can discharge battery pretty fast even with screen off. After saying that, you should disable everything you can that you don't use. Also, forget SOT, see how much your phone discharges overnight when it's not in use. For example charge before sleep to 100%, wake up and see what's the charge after 6-8 hours of standby. If it's less than 94-92 %, then you may have rogue app than runs down your battery and finding it and fixing it may help you a lot.

No, it is not
Anything over 5 hours is not that bad imo! However, i would expect that the note 10 plus should easily be hitting 6 hours minimum for the majority of users depending on there usage! I have literally only got my hands on my device today and after about 30 minutes use plus a software update it has dropped just 6%
my .2 cents , if your phone can last long enough for you to achieve what ever you want to do achieve in day and without you running behind a charger then you got yourself a keeper .
so don't worry about SOT , standby time ... use your phone to its fullest extent and enjoy it

I can totally agree with that, but there's this little voice in my head (Well, there are plenty, but that's not our current burning issue), that's just keep telling me that it doesn't make sense that when both people use the exact same device, with almost the exact same settings, the difference will be so big...

Living in a small country, compared to some people who use the same network in the same city (Maybe 5km from each other). Obviously, it's still not a purely scientific comparison, but it's something/
I used to wonder why there was a big difference between my battery performance and the ones I see on the net. Until I went to Taiwan for a vacation. My sucky battery phone then suddenly lasted the whole day. And that was with constant gps usage, constant checking, messaging, googling, etc.
I think the network strength and consistency is the biggest determinant of battery life given the same usage patterns. I live in the Philippines where the signal is not great which is probably why i get a lousy battery life compared to others.
However, the Note 10+ is giving me the best ever battery life ever. Out of all the phones I've owned, this is the only phone to actually surpass the 5 hour screen on time mark.

Signal strength affecting battery life makes sense, I have heard that before, but I have tried going a full day with just Wi-Fi, airport mode and no sim installed, and I got just the same results, so I guess that in my case, it's not related (sadly).
During my normal daily use, at the end of day I end with SOT of 3 to 5 hrs and 65-45% battery left. So absolutely I can get 8-10 hrs and this is with highest screen resolution, 50% brightness, GPS, BT, NFC, AOD and Edge screen on. You may have rogue apps running in the background and using your battery, did you check under settings/device care/ battery what is using your power, even if it's not very accurate, could give you some hints.
I check it constantly, no rogue apps whatsoever. I even did a factory reset, installing only whatsapp and disabling some Samsung apps, yet I still can't reach more than 5 hours of SOT, in almost "lab clean" conditions. Honestly, it's driving me mad.
How much do you loose overnight, when phone is not used at all. It should be no more than 0.5 to 1% per hr. Also force stop whatsup for few hours, maybe is searching and updating too often. I know what you mean, I had a phone couple yrs ago, wouldn't last whole day even if not used, drove me crazy until found out I changed some obscure setting in wifi before and forgot about it, once I reversed that setting phone went back to normal 0.5% per hour (it was discharging 10% per hour even not used before fix).

The Exynos SoC is garbage.
I learned the hard way with the Galaxy S10+. I thought to myself: "I'll buy the Exynos version so I can have an unlocked bootloader and enjoy custom ROM's and all the good stuff!" Little did I know, it's tough to enjoy the good stuff with such crap battery life.
Snapdragon users of the S10+ were reporting amazing battery life, meanwhile I couldn't get 4 hours of SoT with very careful use. I decided not to make the same error with the Note 10+ and ordered it with a Snapdragon SoC. I can happily report 7-8 hours of SoT and it was only getting better. I'm back on the OnePlus 7 Pro because I may return the Note 10+ for the Galaxy Fold, but I am leaning towards keeping it because the camera is so damned good.
Either way, never buy an Exynos phone. I enjoyed my S8+ with the Exynos chipset, but made a grave error with the S10+. Avoid at all costs if you can. If you need the radio bands that only the Exynos version has - look into getting a battery case because you'll need it.
Good luck Exynos users

[HELP] Note10+ bad screen on time

As the title says... is there something wrong with my battery? I got abysmal SOT of 4hr35min on mobile/cellular data only (No WiFi). Bluetooth OFF, WQHD+, location OFF, dark mode OFF, brigtness 40% or less, Samsung Cloud, Google Photos & Google One back up & sync - all OFF,. Bixby home, bixby wake up, literally everything bixby related OFF. Wake to lift OFF, smart stay OFF. Optimized battery settings, exceptions to optimize made on gmail, whatsapp, instagram. Everything else on optimization. AoD - always on, dynamic background on home screen - yes.
Exynos
Also worth noting - after fully charging the phone, I went from 100% to 98% in like 3 minutes. I also went from 5% to 0% in a couple of minutes.
Is there something wrong with my battery? Surely 4 hrs 35min shouldn't be a norm, not even on cellular data only.
I am also having a same screen on time. My screen resolution is set to wqhd+ always, is that the reason for this? I have heard normally other guys are getting a 6 hours SOT.
Same here, hope they will fix it in one UI 2.0
Exynos or snapdragon variant ?

If the battery consumption is so high using cellular data and not with wifi, it is probably due to signal strenght, when the phone seeks the better signal, depending on your network prefernces, switches between 2g/3g/4g lte, thus using more battery, where I live, there is always high fluctuation in signal strenght, with my note 8, the batt drained faster than normal because of this, in my case I found that locking in 3g gave me better batt life, so, with my note10+ I just knew what to do, and now my batt life is good, 7~8 hrs SOT, and little more than 20hrs idle, btw, there are already some posts regarding this topic, there you will find many useful tips/advices

I keep performance mode on, 4g on all the time, max resolution and use it a lot during the day as I am a heavy user. I bought the note last week and I have managed to have minimum 7 hours screen on time which for me is fantastic as none of my previous phones could handle me that long. The max i got on the note 10+ is around 10 hours Screen on time. My version however is not the Exynos one but the Snapdragon and usually the Snapdragon proccesor manages the battery better than the Exynos one even if this year they are really close

UPDATE!
First of all, I did a factory reset. Then, I did 100% do 0% and then charged the phone while OFF to 100% again and other time I did 100% to 0% and charged it while turning it on after couple %.
I also disabled EVERYTHING Bixby related AND I disabled Facebook running in the background.
The result are in, aaaaaaand.....
MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT!
I am now getting at least 7hrs 30mins with 70%/30% wifi/mobile data usage.
On WiFi Only, I can now get EASILY 9 hours SoT
See screenshots - #1 & #2 showing 7hrs 30mins wifi/mobile data. Screenshot #3 WiFi only, 8hrs 10mins WITH 22% battery to spare! So, easily 9 hrs SoT...

After returning one handset to O2 thinking it was faulty because of the standby drain I got my 2nd one
A exynos chip S20.
After changing all the settings such as refresh rate, dark mode, disabled apps, sleep settings, always off, 5g ... It still drained something terrible.
I dropped from 100 to 77 percent in 1 hour, checking the battery stats there was no single app using it.
I did find that after a factory reset and manual install of apps (not smartswitch) it lasted a little longer but no way I'd get through a work day one one charge

Don't know what settings you have or what's wrong with yours, but I have the US Snapdragon S20+, and my battery is absolutely awesome, standby drain included. My settings are dark mode, hidden 96hz refresh rate, WiFi full-time (damn COVID19), optimized mode for battery, location and Bluetooth on full-time, no NFC on ever, and automatic brightness settings. Like I said, I've gone 2 full days on a charge before, but pretty much always get around 36hrs, with 9-10hrs of screen on time. I'm loving this phone ??

This is crazy figures! I don't get why Samsung are rpping Europeans off with the crappy exynos models. I have the exynos variant and need to turn aeroplane mode on overnight and get 0.4/hr drop.
Sot is usually about 8-9%/hr so from a full charge I should expect 9-10hrs SOT. I have had to fiddle with my settings a lot though.
Rubbish.
Do you guys have auto sync on? That affects battery but I don't know how bad it affects it.
Love to know how. Iv sacked off the device now. #worsehandsetever lol
That's issue with exynos have to do a lot of tinkering disabling apps and other stuff turning location and sync off and aod, ridiculous really, seems like snapdragon is top drawer straight out the box
I wonder how many people jumped into this thread to give a 1 star after owning the phone for less than a week. Give the phone time to learn your usage patterns, jesus christ.
dear all,
I managed to reduce the standby battery drain for Exynos.
Now if you don;t use the phone the battery won;t get consumed.
I am using Package Disabler Pro and some bloatware xml
i will create a thread here step by step how to.
cheers.
My S20+ Exynos drains about 0.3% overnight. Nothing special, wifi always on, sync on, 120 hz.
I had S10 SD version and it was draining 1.5-2% overnight on same settings
My s20 ultra exynos drains the same, ~2% overnight, but that is after ATD3 update
Always I am getting very bad results
I swithed off 5g and screen is running at 60htz
Battery drain on stand by is around 2% on wifi and around 4% if i use 4g data
Other thing that my phone is warm almost all the time.
I disabled many apps but with no improvment.

Battery life

Hello
I just received my s20 plus for a week now and the battery life just like my old s7 edge after 4 years .. 3.5 to 4.5 SOT .
Is this normal ?
Same here mate, but this might improve with software updates.... At least I hope so

I hope.. i am afraid that the device has high power consumption design that with time should only get worse.
Give it 4 days to settle down. But yes it does drain faster than s10+. I knew that before pre-ordering but I thought Samsung would have figured something out...

Guys this is completely normal for the phone to drain this fast, the phone is learning all your usage patterns in order to adjust the battery, use this time to go over the settings and tweak it to your liking. Also in the s10+ forum there is a battery optimisation post, go over there and apply it to your phone. Also maybe you are using the ultra high definition and 120hz, maybe start with that to tweak it.
Another thing is if you just restore the phone from a backup, this can bring corrupted settings that might be the culprits do factory reset and install all from zero without a backup.
''maybe you are using the ultra high definition and 120hz, maybe start with that to tweak it.''
thats physically IMPOSSIBLE now
I assume that you are using the exynos versions?

I had 7 1/2 sot yesterday SD 120hz
Second day, 120Hz is lovely but damn, I'm at home connected to my WiFi and it's draining like crazy, I'm worried how is it gonna look when I go outdoors to the college and will be using LTE. I'm on Exynos
I'm getting 2 hours of SOT through my day (7 am to 10 pm)
It's been a week that I've been using the Exynos version @ 120Hz RR. Battery life is way worse than S10+ on similar settings, tweaks and usage pattern.
I have charged my phone for the 2nd time and i get +- 5 hours of sot. I use everything on the phone, 120hz etc. The battery is still in the learning pattern phase...getting same battery life as I got on my S10+. I get roughly 24 hours with one charge and 6 hours is included when I sleep...The battery will get better. With my S10+ I got 24-36 hours of battery time with +- 3-5 hours sot...depending on usage...So if I can get the same or a bit better I would be very happy

I'm reading pretty bad about the Exynos Ultra as well in different but reliable sources. It's a pain to have a primary driver that dies mid-day on medium usage, that era of "unacceptable batterylife" on a flagship is believed to be over years back. I remember me behaving in an uncivilized? manner with the ones who tried to defend Exynos S9+ in every online forum when the culprit was the SoC itself to start with..
no wonder they didnt want to enable 120hz at 2K res - it would kill the battery in 1h probably

7.5hrs screen on time? How? First person I've heard that high.
I have the S20+ with the snapdragon processor. I think the battery life is very good, way better than my P4XL. I have 4 hours sot right now and have 60% left. I'm using 120 hz refresh rate. I believe it has gotten better over time, either from "settling" or updates, or maybe my imagination, haven't actually checked but some nights I go to bed after a day of light use and I'm shocked at the battery left. I unplug at 6am and at 10pm I've seen 80% battery left. That's minimal use like I said, not a typical day.
I think the battery life is quite alright, on par with my second phone (OnePlus 7 pro)
Exynos/12gb ram/120hz: stranded on 12%, so it would be around 7.5hours of SOT in full day.
Note: got the phone 3 days ago, it's still settling.View attachment 4977585

I have the snapdragon version and the battery on this thing is a BEAST!
Going on 34 hours off the charger and 7 hours of sot. I have done nothing to conserve battery. Loads of apps/accounts syncing. I am super impressed. Way better then my s10+ was.
120hz on, about mid-brightness, I'm lasting all day use with my personal usage habits. Battery life is as good if not a bit better than on my Note 10+. Snapdragon here on T-Mobile. Mostly WiFi. But it's only been about a week of use.
Can't complain at all.
ETA: Also BT always on using with my Frontier watch and Galaxy Buds on occasion.
