[DISCUSSION][POLL]Has development ceased? - OnePlus 7T Guides, News, & Discussion

Take the Survey! Get discussion going here to let us n00bs know whats going on. What's the current status of development with this device? It seems like rom and kernel development has screetched to a halt. What kind of things need to be figured out still and why is there a lack of development for this device? (SHOUTOUT TO ALL THE DEVS OUT THERE WHO ARE CURRENTLY WORKING/CONTRIBUTING TO THIS DEVICE).

TWRP need to be figured out. Once it starts to works I'm sure 7/Pro ROMs starts to unify for 7T / Pro.
(Obviously a guess, but the hardware is very similar and most kernels are unified)

Custom Roms

What is with the lack of custom roms for our phone? Is it the lack of devs who own the device, or is it the lack of open source resources for our device? Thanks for your responses.
We have more roms than the international version. What are you crying about?

I think we have what, two roms right now? And they're both stock (one is deodexed), so really not a whole lot to choose from right? (And I mean absolutely no disrespect to Devs. I know this process, I've been around a while now. It takes time to get up and running.)
But I know, and feel what the op is saying. Normally by now, we'd at least have some more things going on as far as roms, and especially kernels. What I'm most excited for is aosp or cm. I really miss stock android, and I think this phone would benefit a whole lot from it as far as battery life and fluidity.
But I can be patient... I think

Dont worry bro the devs probably barely got their devices rightnow. We dont know what they are planning. But they will be coming and you will be first to enjoy a fully custom phone and quench the thirst. I have it too. The fact that the bootloader is unlocked for tmbile make me relieved[emoji27]

I could be way off here but if you want aosp you better start compiling it. For some reason I doubt we will see official aosp or aokp until one of us gets the ball rolling on github. I would but the idea of being a guinea pig for the kernel scares me off. If anyone knows of it officially being worked on please correct me.
I wish i could help unfortunately I cant code very much.. Anyways I cant wait for some LG G3 custom ROM love. :good:
It took almost 2 months for the first AOSP rom to start showing up for the G2, and that had less exposure. It just takes time.

Be patient. Device just recently came out. The fact we even have a full root and 2 flavors of stock is nice already given the time
I like LG's take on Android. I'd be happy with a properly debloated rom and custom kernel.

Trust me, If I could code, I wouldve started by now lol, but as far as I've seen , there is a guy messing with a 4.4.4 aosp build or Android L build in the general section of the T-Mobile threads. From what I've read he's responsible for the Android L port to the Nexus 4, so at least we have someone digging at it.
Other than that I haven't seen anything else.
This is my first non nexus LG smartphone , so forgive me if Im not privy to how long development normally takes. All I can say is I'm definitely excited to see something

I dont know how develpoment is now on the the G2 but when i had it there wasnt much going on there, I think i flashed international roms on that device, would that be possible with the G3?

With the G2 you could do that as long as you had a D801 kernel to flash on top of it. Might be the same here.
I wanted to compile AOSPA (paranoid android for those who don't know), but couldn't find the device tree for this device. Someone answered me on here and said that they needed to be built and none were available at this time.
That's what we're waiting for to get any type of AOSP rom on this device. I looked into building it myself, but it's a bit over my head.

Lack of Development

So what is with the lack of development for this phone? It's really making me regret getting it.
so get a nexus...
or develop for the device if there is a lack of development issue.

Always research a phone before you get one, as some receive more dev support than others. The edge variants also probably won't see much. You don't really get samsung phones to get cm these days.

I would love to develop but I would have a lot to learn. Maybe someone will trade me for a Nexus 6. I would be happy with root and a custom recovery but I can't even get that working, recovery won't load it just hangs every time.
At present there are obstacles to tackle as far as development is concerned and when that is sorted out you will see some development.
Or maybe Samsung is aiming for a different user crowd, like the type that get a high end phone that works all the time, without apps fc' or freezing displays and they don't have to reboot it several times a day or nandroid back because they can't hear or be heard by callers.
I'm totally happy and satisfied with this S6e the way it is, and Samsung has done a superb job putting this premium phone together.
Pp.
Regarding Aosp on GS6/E it's going to be a long time/never until we see aosp on the device, the reason development is non existent is because of Exynos, Samsungs SoC. Samsung refuses to give out it's source code for Exynos for obvious reasons and without it's source code, building aosp is no easy task. Some devs have built aosp for Samsung devices based on Exynos before but not fully working/stable ones. All in all, you'll be waiting a while.

Development Doubt

Hello all,
I apologize if this is obvious or has been asked previously in any other way, but I need to know the proper reason behind it.
I wish to know what exactly is the reason behind zero development for this beast? I mean as far as I know Asus has released kernel source code and the bootloader is unlockable?
Is there something else preventing the development or are there simply no developers for the device yet?
Thank you!
There are 2 devs in this sub forum: Jpg3927 & scanno. I don't believe Jpg is in possession of the phone yet, and the latter has begun work on omni and twrp. Scanno said that he could not get system to boot, so no ROMs for now. He is also very busy, so progress will take time.

Thank you very much for exact picturing of the current scenario.
once devs have their hands on this phone they will start work.

Custom ROMs and Kernel development?

Hey,
since I am getting my 7t soon and always valued the oneplus phones as developer friendly I am wondering if the lack of devs and roms/kernels for this particular phone will sort itself out over time? Is there any issue preventing things like proper twrp and stuff from happening?
Can you recommend a kernel (from the few out there) and is there any other place to look for them?
ElementalX has it covered, right?
Thanks!

you kidding right?
One of the major Problems is twrp still needs time for Android 10.
It's a problem for every device.
You also have the option of arter97's kernel that he just brought to the 7t
[r40] arter97 kernel for OnePlus 7 series
There may not be a huge quantity of devs for the phone yet but in this case, you have a few very good developers already.
Oh and on a side note, Arter97 is helping to bring Paranoid Android back to the scene so good things are coming.

Most of those links are semi-private by invite-only.
Developers got tired of requests and demands from rookie users on XDA, and rightly or wrongly felt under-appreciated at complaints about their free for-fun work...and then took their for-funsies development to more private areas. There also has been much squabbling and drama about "originality" and "kanging" in conjunction with moderation here over the decade+ Android has been a thing; which annoyed developers more. XDA really was a victim of XDA's and Androids own success over crappy OEMs undermaintaining their own firmware. Thus the seeming deadness and lack of development across most devices, now.
I know links and very active and very-elite groups on TG--but am not sharing them, because then I'll lose my own access to those channels. Not trying to show-off or be a jerk here, just explaining how and why.

I'd like to know as well. I just past 12 years of membership last week. I think that qualifies me as non-noob.
I was here when they were developing for the old Windows Mobile.

Also on year 12 and originally from WM days. Back when HTC was THE phone to own.
Would also be interested in the alternate site. I am not a dev but gladly test pretty much everything.
I miss the old Nexus days easy to root support galore.

Yep - cut my teeth on the HTC phones. Still used them off and on up to the 10.
NATF used to do the best WM ROMs back in the day.

Why not? Just wait for twrp development. 7 pro, 7T and 7T pro will have same rom and kernal development as the source is almost same.

Will the 7T ever get a working TWRP?

With Oneplus recently ending the beta program for the Oneplus 6/6T it won't be long before the 7 series get the axe as well. So I was wondering will we ever get a working TWRP for the Oneplus 7T? Without working TWRP the custom ROM development is really dry. Btw, please don't bother replying to this thread if you don't like it, please ignore.
I think the Dev behind TWRP still busy. You can read here if not already...

Hopefully, but if will probably be different that what you're used it. Some progress has been made though;
