AGL (Automotive Grade Linux) - PC Hardware for Linux Developers

Hi Everyone,
I have a Toyota Fortuner with a Fujitsu-Ten Entertainment system installed OEM.
After some poking and question asking, I worked out that the head unit is running AGL.
https://www.automotivelinux.org/
https://www.automotivelinux.org/
An operating system being supported by a large and growing number of car manufacturers who are aware of the dangers of using Google/Apple to power their entertainment systems and by the looks of things going to be building there own.
Subaru, Toyota, Ford are all releasing cars with head units running AGL

As the source code the head units in the cars is available online, I was wondering if XDA-Developers forum might not be a possible home for people wanting to do similar things to their car head units to what they are doing to their cell phones.

Can't find anything else online except for the official sites.
Thanks

[Q] Development request!?

Is there currently, could there be, or can someone port Android OS to a car stereo head unit, such as a Pioneer AVICz1, Kenwood DNX9980, or in my case (the cheap version), an Xtrons TD717? These are 2Din units with touch interfaces, bluetooth, possible network capabilities, audio/video functionality, and a processor of some sort. I would be VERY willing to donate to such a venture, especially in the case of my model head unit (Xtrons TD717), because I would just LOVE to have PowerAmp and Google Music playing on screen as an "integrated" function. If there is someone out there that would be willing to undertake such a task, because I have NO CLUE how, please let me know...and we can exchange ideas and functions/features desired.
p.s. I'm new and did look around for related topics, but if this isn't the place to post this, I'm sorry. Please "kindly" inform me otherwise.
It would be much simpler -and cheaper - to just buy an Android unit.

Sourcing multiple phones for android testing

Hi all.
So I'm looking for a lead on getting multiple Android devices for testing purposes. I'm hoping to avoid the usual trawl through various ebay listings etc. to get my hands on cheap handsets (though have already reluctantly started this process.)
I will of course be using various emulators and remote testing services, but in many ways there's no substitute for having an actual device there in your hands.
Anyone had any experience sourcing from carriers, direct from manufacturers, or otherwise?
Is there a group that specialises in leasing for example?
I'm UK/Ireland based so some EU friendly leads would be nice.

There are a few services that allow you to crowd test your app with real users. Google around a bit.
Cheers, but I'm looking to actually get a good supply of devices into the studio, rather than crowd sourcing and other remote methods. Might need to run debuggers, network limiters etc on the devices to really put them through their paces and it'll be a hell of a lot easier to do that 'in house' so to speak.

Android Auto Forums

Why was Android Auto forums lumped in with the older Android car head unit forums? These are two totally different things and can be confusing, especially with more and more cars now coming out with Android Auto installed. The link to it should be placed next to the link for Android Wear. It can be really confusing to wade through hundreds of posts of cheap car pc headunits to read about Android Auto.
Thanks
@svetius or @MikeChannon might be able to answer that.

Some of those Head Units are incredibly expensive, but that's not your point. You are correct of course that "Android Auto" is a specific thing and not just a generic title for all things to do with android use in cars. We did realize this but had not anticipated just how much interest there was/is in both things "Android Auto" and Android Head Units. We'll have a discussion...
Mike
There is also the issue that things like this have been announced in the past without much traction. I hope Android Auto becomes widely utilized, and we can have a whole subsection based on it.

GPS Navigators - Discussion Subforum?

Not sure if it's due to popularity or knowledge but there doesn't seem to be a lot, if any, about stand alone Android based GPS Navigators. Brands under the name Jusun and U-Route with Android 4.4.2 or lower as the OS version. I'm speaking of something resembling the devices that came out in the beginning from TomTom and Garmin and are still available but somewhat diminished in popularity.
I'd appreciate it if a Mod or other member(s) could point me to the right forum. I'd like to see if anyone else would be interested or has had progress in hacking and or developing with those particular type of devices.
TIA

2015 Genesis Ultimate Android Auto/Apple Carplay mod?

This is an ongoing project over at Genesis Forums and we seem to have come to a halt. Posting here to see if anyone can give us a hand.
Some background. Those who have purchased the Ultimate package for the Hyundai Genesis/Genesis G80 did not get the AA/CP update. 2018+ models did get the update. All other trims also got the update across all years. Hyundai claims the hardware is not compatible but that doesn't seem to be the case. So far, we have dumps of the 2015-2017 and 2018+ headunits but have made little progress. The 2018 firmware boots in the 2015 hardware but there's no audio. Installing the 2018+ headunit into a 2015 vehicle gets the same results as they've updated the amplifier in 2018.
We think we should be able to start with the 2018+ firmware and reroute the audio to the 2015-2017 amplifier, we should be good.
Here's the disk image for the 2015 https://xtremission.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hyundai+Genesis+Radio/2015+Genesis.zip
And the image for the 2018 https://xtremission.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Genesis+G80+Radio/2018Genesis.zip
Someone also found the source code for the system. It's built on Meego

We could definitely use the help as most of us over there aren't programmers... lol Some of us are but don't really have the time to put into it. I've been spending most of my time messing with Openpilot on the Genesis.
Hello.
I have been following the thread over on the Genesis forum and I wanted to share this post.
I was able to get CarPlay working in my Kia k900 using a third party kit. Maybe this is a avenue you might wish to take.

I've been looking for a way to run AA for far too long to quit now.
I have Zero knowledge when it comes to programming but would like to test and help however I can.
Is there a way to compile firmware with the old, amplifier-specific files?
Anybody tried swapping to the updated amplifier and see if it works?
