Gapps not working (Won't install open gapps because rom is 4.3 even though I'm on 6) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hi,
Hopefully someone sees this. I have a galaxy s2 t989 and I installed cm13 the other day. It doesn't come with gapps obviously, so I put the version recommended on the forums, and it said "Error code 20" "This version of gapps is for version 6.x.x and you are on 4.3". CM13 is android 6.0.1, so I don't really understand. I've installed the kitkat CM previously, and had it on there for multiple years, but I formatted and reset everything in the phone. Anything that is able to be formatted in CWM I did, and it still didn't work. I then tried to manually install the APK for google play services along with the play store, and it just keeps spamming "Unfortunately, google play services has stopped". I can't seem to figure out how to change the version of the rom in CWM to be my current version. Can anyone help please?

Recommend..
1. Flash back to factory OEM Samsung T989 Android 4.1.2 rom..
2. Flash TWRP Recovery
3. Backup device to Micro SD
4. Did I mention Backup device to Micro SD?
If you wish to try a custom ROM.. always use a matching version of Open GAPPs.. so if its an Android 6 rom.. use Android 6 GAPP... also.. for this old T989 device.. use the NANO GAPP.. and install only what you need from the play store afterwards. Good threads to read over for this device are:

Can't get any of the GAPPS to work. Please help

Hello everyone. I am new to this rooting process for a kindle fire and am trying to get the Google Play store working so that I can download new apps. what I have done so far is to load Hashtag's version of Jellybean and then the gapps. when I try to use the play store I keep getting the "server error, retry" grey screen. then what I did was to remove Hashtag's version and load Jandycane's version of Jellybean and I am getting the same error message. I am able to use the GMAIL app with my google log in but after reading one email, the app crashes. if anyone can please point me in the direction to fix this it is greatly appreciated. I have looked all through this forum for a solution but came up empty.
Gapps are intended to be flashed as a zip also make sure you are using the correct ones GB, ICS and jelly bean all use different gapp packages. Avoid using the ones for 4.2 as there can be issues. Do a full wipe reflash rom and gapps this includes a system wipe, gapps for the various systems can be located here http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps#Jelly_Bean_.28Android_4.1.x.29 .

AT&T Fire Phone, Unlocked and Rooted - Any way to install Google Play?

I'm rooted with SafeStrap installed. AT&T unlocked with the latest firmware. Is there a way to install Google Play? I've been trying the "just install the APKs" method, and it isn't working. Well, it'll work once then not work again.
Any hope? I was hoping I could flash something, but I don't know if that would work.
Flash one of these: Mini GAPPS by RolanDroid or PA GAPPS Pico.
The contents of those flashable zip files are almost the same, I'm using PA GAPPS Pico right now, had Mini GAPPS before.
The problem isn't solved with installing one of those GAPPS, but they offer the LEAST amount of "Play services crashes".
edit: when you say "AT&T unlocked"... does that mean that you're using the 35.4.6.1_user_461013320 and then unlocked or are you running 35.4.6.1_user_461013820 on your device?

It's the 320. It was AT&T that was then unlocked.
Hrmpf... Then you may have heard about the problems on all those versions ending with 320 (the German & UK versions are also poorly in handling GAPPS).
For whatever reason, the "GSM unlocked" version ending with 820 gets the best results regarding Play Store & services.
You may consider installing the 820 after trying it on your current 320. For help with installing the "new" image, click the 2nd link in my signature ("Fire Phone stock recovery: factory images").
Just report back here with your results and / or if you need further info & help. Btw. The "GSM unlocked" version will work fine on your device, the net(un)lock isn't affected by the OS version.

I was just looking at that. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
To update: I flashed the 820 firmware and SuperSu, booted and logged into the phone, then rebooted and flashed Google Apps. It's working great! Once I got it up and running it seems to be working damn near flawlessly.
How about 4.6.4 464000220
I'm running 4.6.4 464000220. I ran KingRoot. Installed Safestrap. Flashed PA GApps. I can get some apps ok but Google Photos doesn't seem to be able to upload. Should I try something else? Another firmware?
Thanks,
Got it
I downgraded to 4.6.3 and flashed the PA GApps. Rooted with GoMobile. Everything is working great!

Just got ze551 and updated CM. Now can't install google play services/play store

I'm not sure what to do here. I just got my Zenfone 2 (ze551ml/z00a) and noticed I had a notification for a system update and foolishly thought it would be no big deal to proceed to install it. I think it was on CM 12.1 previously and the update was for CM 13 but not sure but after it updated it axed pretty much all the apps that were on it including any Google services. Wouldn't be a big deal since the update was literally the first thing I've done with the phone after porting #/service---haven't imported contacts or anything---but I can't just download an APK of the Play store or Google services. I've tried this through APK downloads and through the Google installer app (which is in Chinese regardless of whether I got it off the xiaomi market or not). The results weren't much different with each attempt. I get either "There was a problem communicating with Google servers. Try again later" when trying to sign in when launching play store or""Google Play services won't run unless you update Google Play services.", which I cannot do.
So I can't really do much of anything right now with the phone and really regret installing the CM update. I got Open Gapps but (x86, 6.0, full I think?) but I'm not sure what to do with it. I have experience rooting phones and have rooted my last two phones but I'm no expert when it comes to smartphones. I just want this phone to be usable again, I don't care whether I am using stock or cyanogenmod. How can I get Google services and alike to run is open gapps the solution or do I need to find some recovery rom to try to flash to? I've seen so many completely different solutions to this that I don't know where to go from here. I did a factory reset but that had no effect and the solutions I tried here thus far haven't worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you leave a bitcoin wallet address and your solution helps I'll gladly send you a tip for your efforts. Thanks!!
Have you tried reformatting, and flashing gapps and rom? The phone settings was likely tinkered.
What recovery have you got loaded ? If twrp which it should be , being on cm ? Cm 13.1 gets updates and notifications for updates , so download gapps for android 6 x86 ..boot into recovery and flash latest gapps .
What build number date etc ?

Not sure which recovery, it had like 6 grey square-ish buttons when I entered it last time. But when you say 'download gapps' you mean get Open Gapps right? I booted into recovery mode with the zip of it but didn't have a guide handy so I didn't mess with it. So I was on the right track it sounds like, I'll give that a shot with a guide and reply here with the results.

Don't have youtube or any google apps unfortunately, the update to CM 13 removed most of the apps.
Yes just head over to cm 13 for z00a if your device in " original android development section"? , and follow cm flashing instructions ,
What build number and date of build installed ?

I guess I got ahead of myself. I tried installing open gapps from recovery, looked like it worked so I wiped cache and after the phone started I just get a barrage of "unfortunately setup wizard has stopped" and 'play store has stopped" over and over again. So now I can't check what version I have but I know it was CM 13 and one of the latest three available nightly builds with android 6.0.1, I did try installing the 'official' google apps first but I got an error like "unable to update file" or something---guessing I should have tried unlocking the bootloader first? The official unlocker tool is an .apk so now thats off the table. But if this phone has TWRP on it then doesn't that mean the previous owner already unlocked it (I bought it used)? Should I try unlocking first or go straight to flashing CM13?
I'm assuming you are saying to get the CM 13 ROM for z00A from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zen.../rom-cyanogenmod-13-0-nightly-builds-t3264492
I'll download that and give it a shot.
edit:
Do I want the .zip for CM13 (CM Build) or the recovery (.img) or both? screenshot. the guide isn't really clear. I'm going into recovery/TWRP to see if I can find out my version # of CM---I think its the version from 5/23 but I'm not sure
Well the guide is straight forward , you will have download new twrp and flash that for future updates to flash correctly , there are tonnes of threads to get you back up and running around here , take your time ..enjoy .
You say you cannot boot into system so put all files on SD card and select storage in twrp ..flash ROM ..gapps .. and latest twrp ..so you can back up at earliest instance
If any probs , try YouTube ..there's a few vids for flashing cm13 on zen 2
How's it going ohituna ? All good?

Updated TWRP to v3 first then flashed CM13 from the thread I linked above (the zip, not the img). along with the x86-nano version of opengapps. Worked perfectly. Wish I would have done that from the start instead of messing around with trying to get opengapps to work without the flashed CM and whatnot. Seems to be running perfect, got bunch of apps off play store already with no problem getting my contacts and other Google stuff.
Thanks for the pushes in the right direction!:good::good::good::good:
Now the ZF2 is starting to grow on me, got it instead of waiting for the HTC One A9 price to drop and I'm feeling like I made the right call.
Great news , better that you sorted it yourself .
Now save a back up on PC and keep forever lol just in case

Custom Lollipop ROM without Bloatware and minimal Google apps/services

Hello everyone
I am new to flashing/rooting a android phone. I have a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, Kernel 3.4 (I think), Version 14.6.A.1.236. I want to customize it to get a better battery life and most importent to rid of bloatware and as many google services as possible but Google Play Store.
I first unlocked the bootloader by following Sony's own guide using commandline in a "mini adb/fastboot installation" on a W7 pc. Check...
Then I flashed a TWRP v2.8.70 again by commands in the same "mini adb/fastboot installation" Check...
Then I got black screen but the phone was up and running. Then I flashed a image found here on this site: [UB ONLY] [kernel] Root, init.d support, Recovery & Busybox for 14.6.A.0.368 and I was up and running again with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, Kernel 3.4 (I think), Version 14.6.A.1.236. (dont know why though)
Then I got the phone rooted by entering TWRP and installing SuperSU. Check...
Now it runs normal and I can also boot into TWRP by pressing volume up when Sony logo pops up on the screen. So I think i am good?
Now my goal is get my phone to run smooth with no bloatware, minimal google services and better battery time and all this in that order.
Now I know that I problably can get this by uninstalling most of the bloatware and google services with for an example Titanium and then disable running services not needed with for example Servicely.
But I really want to learn to flash custom roms, but as a newbie I am afraid to to something wrong with all the talk about kernels and so on.
So my questions is as follows.
1. Is there a custom Lollipop rom (I guess a ROM is both kernel and OS(android version)), I can flash using TWRP, that is without bloatware and minimal Google services? would appreciate links directly the the ROM's you have in mind please
2. If there is such a ROM, I guess it should be put on a SD card that I can put in the phone and access when in TWRP?
3. Such a ROM I guess should be the same kernel and android version which is the same as the stock version that the phone has now?
4. The order is what?
1. Make a factory reset
2. Enter TWRP
3. Make a backup of kernel image, System and data to a SD card
4. Then wipe 1. Dalvik Cache, 2. System, 3. Cache, 4. Data
5. Then Flash Custom ROM image from SD card
6. Reboot
5. What are the potential dangers here?
I know there problably is a lot of former threads with the same subject, but in my search I quickly got lost in the abbreviations you guys use, so my hope is that you will bear with me. Also this is not my native language, so please excuse any misspelling. Any help are appreciated and thanks in advance

and you re pretty much done.
as for google services,my opinion is let them untouched.

Help me with google apps

Hi everyone
I have got a Samsung Tab Pro 10.1 (SM-T520) and it unfortunately stopped updating due to it been so old and was left behind on android KitKat 4.4.
So I decided to root it and download the lineage update to get android 7.1.2 custom ROM on it and give it a bit of life instead of never been used because it's slow and blotchy.
When I download the ROM everything worked really well, moment installed Gapps it when pear shaped. I was met with "android is starting" message stopping me from do anything but go on settings through notifications bar and it made my keyboard disappear.
So I just flashed the lineage ROM back to standard without Gapps. I have tried most of the Gapps packages that they make and I get the same thing every time with the missing keyboard.
My real question is can build a set of google apps through apk. I have tried installing google play, google play services and google play frame something (can't remember the last one) all of them either don't work or crash and just not stop being up a message saying each one of them isn't working.....what apps do need to install or flash to build up my own set of google apps without using Gapps
(Just some notes at the end to help, I rooted using root genius, my custom boot is TWRP, I installed TWRP via odin and lineage seems to be the only ROM that does a android 7 for my device, the apps I want working are google play store, google app, google maps, google assistant (if possible), gmail and maybe calender. The rest of them are on my non rooted s7e so don't need them on the tablet.)
Hope someone can help
