S20 Ultra reception vs. S10/Note 10 line - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

The S10 and Note 10 had wildly fluctuating reception compared to the Note 9. For those who've used the S20 Ultra, is reception better than the 10 series?
dBm reading comparisons or real life speeds are preferred over signal bar readings.

I never measured reception with any of my phones but I didn't find I had a hard time sometimes at home with my S10+. On my Ultra, I have 0 issolues so far. I'm getting full bars and only got 2 bars on my S10+.
I never measured the signals so I can't really give you a better answer. My carrier is VZW btw.

For me my s10 plus is overall ok in terms of reception and wifi calling solves my problem anyway at home cause at home the reception is bad.

Cellular strength and throughput

We know how much you like to stream, ahem, "videos", and so cellular data is mega-important. Rate this thread to express how you think the Google Pixel's LTE performs. A higher rating indicates that it's fantastic: throughput is excellent and signal strength is top-notch.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add.
I have been having awful 4g signal strength, throughput is fine, but suffers greatly when the signal drops out every 30-60 seconds. I might have a faulty device, not sure. Currently testing side by side with an identical device.
Edit: Pixel on Verizon, purchased through Google Store.
I give it much higher rating over my Nexus 5 as comparison.
For instance, in a regional "subway tunnel" with a roof opening to the air over it, I have more consistent signal. So far, the signal drops less than it used to in those dropout areas.
Data transmission is faster too. In general sites load well.

When sitting right next to my Galaxy S6, the signal strength of the Pixel seems to be consistently 1 bar lower than what the S6 is showing. I know that is relative terms, but in terms of absolutes, as it sits right this minute, the Pixel is fluctuating between -85 dbm and -117dbm, whereas the S6 is at a very solid -72-77dbm, when connected to a Verizon Microcell across the room (~20 ft) from me.
This shows that the Pixel indeed has lower signal strength.
I average 80 - 160 Mbps on Verizon. Any slowness I have is directly related to the carriers business, aggregation, etc. and not the phone. Im totally happy with it.
I know they're not exactly related, but one of the main reasons I bought a pixel (besides just wanting one) is because my Nexus 6p seems to have horrendous cell and gps signal strength. How consistant is the signal? Does it disconnect from either and if it does, how frequent is it? I'm picking up my shiny new pixel phone today, and I guess I'll find out soon enough, I just wanted to see how your guys' experiences have been so far.
same here!
I noticed terrible service with the 6p as well, so far the pixel seems better. The GPS is much better as well.
Speed seems ok, havent noticed any real lag yet, I have had mine for about a week, somehow got mine a few days early (shipping error?)
Based on speedtest.net tests, WiFi appears to be much slower than the 6p, coming in at 17 Mbps where my 6p sitting in the same spot on the same network was at 26-30 Mbps
Regular black Pixel 128GB ordered through the Google store. Signal strength at home isn't quite as good as my Moto X Pure. Not a big surprise, because if nothing else, Moto has the reception game down pat. Will have a better Idea tomorrow because I just received the phone today and have been nowhere else but home.
On a side note, this phone just feels a lot nicer than my X. It's all of the little things that add up to make it a very nice experience.
I live in a poor signal area, and Telstra (Australia) LTE signal strength is higher than my Galaxy S6
I was a bit reluctant to get the pixel because my carrier didn't enable VoLTE and Wifi calling on it. I noticed that even though it goes down to 3G for phone calls, it goes back to LTE right after I hang up which it pretty bad ass!

With my 5X I was getting dropouts and dropped calls at work which is a metal clean room inside a metal factory building. I could barely maintain 3G, most of the times on 1x. Every so often I would get lucky and be able to stream a youtube video. Speed was less than 1mbs, usually 0.2-0.5. With the Pixel I see LTE and have used it for a few phone calls expecting it to drop or not be heard on the phone but I had no problems. I don't use LTE for voice calls. Data speeds are now about 2-3 mbps. 20 mb app took about 10 seconds to download. That would have taken several minutes with the 5X. So in my experience much better signal using Verizon UDP.
Out side the house didn't notice any issues but at my house **** reception which is normal so I had a service extender that my galaxy 5 used just fine my pixel don't like it thought . But now that I can use wifi calling with this phone don't matter
So far it seems to be about on par with my Nexus 6 which had better signal than any other phone I've used. My 5x would drop to 3g in certain spots in my house and was a pain tethering occasionally. The pixel has been great.
Google store pixel on vzw
Not happy with cell reception. My HTC One M9 gets better signal. Drops from 4G to 3G then nothing until I cut the radio off and then back on. Flashed most recent radio from verizon software with no difference.
For me Nexus 5 works in subway tunnel on first 3 staitions from home without problem. I can talk whole time, but on pixel i can't do the same thing. Nexus 5 is so much better. Better reception, same display size with same resolution but more ergonomic, wireless charging, screen casting (which works everywhere not only on google chromecast like pixel does), easy to open and replace battery or anything and it's 3 years older then Pixel. Feels like Google degraded in those 3 years. Released nexus 6 which sucks, then nexus 5x which bricks itself in an instant, and 6p which does same thing plus bends like a b**ch
Google should have just released Nexus 5 again with amoled screen, better specs and 100% Same visually, that would be absolutely AMAZING.

Z5 wifi quite slow

On my xperia, the wifi works quite slow if I'm slightly far away from the router (still getting full bars), approximately around 5 meters away and it starts getting slower.
My friends galaxy s6 gets perfect speeds, while mines ends up slowing down, in speed tests the speeds slow down from 10mbps to 1,2mbps.
Is this a known issue or is there some fix??
On latest z5 update 32.3.A.2.33
i Don't actually know solution but my Z5p also have small wifi coverage range makes me to be with router all the time

Snapchat/screen recorder quality messed up? Am I alone in this?

Ok guys title says it all am I the only one? I mean snap quality is worse than standard Android quality before the optimization snap did and screen recorder gets shrunk so bad when sharing them to other phones... aside from those problems I had a couple random restarts, apps won't clear when using the clear apps button in recent apps unless I swipe each one out and we'll 5g speeds are almost equal to LTE speeds except when very near to 5g towers (in both cases phone registers full 5g signal)
Reporting from U.A.E , Abu Dhabi
Currently switched to a p30 pro which works perfectly fine compared to the mate 20 x 5g and battery is on a whole nother level (heavy using it end a day with 20ish% while the mate 20 x 5g gets recharged either once or twice a day depends on usage) guess that's what happens when it's the first 5g phone out :crying:

Question Battery life

Is it me or this phone is battery hungry?
1h of screen on time in 4 hours of light usage and lost 15%
It's gotten better with updates.............wasn't good when it was released.
I'm getting about 5 hours SOT per charge, including some gaming. That's ok by my standards.
There's another thread here about reducing battery loss. I keep my refresh at 120, but you can reduce it to 96 with little noticeable difference, apparently, but you need the app to do that (on that thread). Reducing it to 60 is noticeable, though. All I did was change the screen from vivid to natural, which appears to help a bit.
When new, it seems to take a while to 'settle' and work out actual battery levels. I fully charged, ran down to 1% (not a fan of going to zero), and fully charged again. I don't know if that's needed or helping, though.
Edit: app for refresh rate :
[App]Galaxy Max Hz (Refresh Rate Mods, Screen-off Mods and More)
About this app: Refresh Rate Control: Easily control the max refresh rate (Hz) of android devices with multiple refresh rates (e.g. note20 ultra, s20/S20+/S20Ultra, z fold 2, s21/s21+/s21Ultra, tab S7/S7+, z fold 3, z flip 3). This app can limit...

Z Fold 3 battery life discussion
Hi to all F3 owners hope your enjoying your new toy? Only query / disappointment for me so far is that battery life is nowhere near as good on Fold 3 as it was with Fold 2. 1.5 hours light usage today and I am down to 58% - mostly indoors and...

I get good battery life, and have since day one. Have you checked to see if any apps are draining your battery? I had to put WhatsApp to sleep because it was using unnecessary battery power, and I hardly ever use it so don't mind it not having push updates. I get 10 to 12 hours between charges with me on it most of the time.

1. Disable 5G if you are not in a strong 5G signal area.
2. Go to settings - location - improve accuracy - & disable Wifi and Bluetooth scanning.

Try to stop the unnecessary background running apps and make sure the mobile doesn't get heat this was useful for me to prevent the battery drain.

Damn, I wish my battery was this good, usually it's worse for me, but I use Twitch app and looks like it's really really bad for the battery.

I got 5g in my local town, and we're out in Whoop Whoop Australia 500km from any other town. I turn it off at home, down to 3g actually, because I don't get 5g at home, and the constant switching from 3g to very faint 4g always causes problems. Being able to switch manually reduces battery drain considerably.

Always on 5G with good signal strength in the Atlanta GA area. Over 700Mbps down at the grocery store parking lot the other day. T-Mobile

yep was going to say maybe some parts of big cities but its no where near as efficient as LTE is, the range on 5g is pathetic and not sure how it works in a grocery store as the signal cannot penetrate through walls like LTE. I think so many people (not people here I hope) think they actually have 5G simply because every phone company is allowed to put that up top. 5G should be pretty much 1tb per second of data from all the videos ive seen.

Unfortunately some companies (Verizon) would have you think mmWave is the only true 5G but it just isn't so. T-Mobile has multiple layers of 5G signal. Low frequency for coverage instead of speed(600Mhz and better than LTE building penetration since most is at 700Mhz), mid band 2.5ghz re-farmed from Sprint that offers the speeds I mention while also covering fairly large areas and commonly referred to as "UC" or Ultra Capacity, then mmWave which is just about useless unless you are at a sporting event or sitting outside within a couple hundred feet line of site of the cell and have no obstructions. Then you will get 1-2Gbps but only if stationary. 5G in general will increase network capacity more so than allow everyone to have crazy speeds, and I wish they hadn't tried to push the false message that 5G=1gbps+ to everyone. Someone better versed than I can go into more detail on this subject. Also, I'm 30 miles+ north of Atlanta in a suburb not in the actual city.
Does the benefits outweighs the battery life with 5g? Is there a use for such high download speed? Personally, I can't think of any app that I use often that need such high speed.
Hi, regarding the battery: need to change and perform next generation battery, need next level upgrade, the phone its good, but battery its joke.

What country are you in?
mine is bad in low coverage area, spend a day in town and its great. At work its another story, have to charge at least once in the middle of the day.
With T-Mobile conversion from Sprint, I feel like their 5G isn't fast, seems slow to me. I did see where T-Mobile was supposed to stop advertising that it has the most reliable 5G, since a recent report showed that it isn't.............they are planning to appeal.

Question How does 5G affect battery compared to 4G?

Does anyone yet know how 5G will affect the battery life compared to 4G?
The phone would now not only seek for a better 4G signal tower but also for a 5G cell tower?
As far as I understand:
Adaptive connectivity should disable/enable 5G based on usage
That means with "screen off" I will hopefully not suffer from higher battery drain due to constantly trying to get a good 5G cell tower
5G uses more power due to its higher performance. But is only when actually using 5G (e.g. massive downloading)
When there is weak 4G signal, I might actually have better signal due to 5G availability
Is that correct?
Yeah, I think you're correct.
At 100% charge before turning in for the night, wifi connected, I lose about 2% at night.
I'll have to turn wifi off to check the drain at night for 5G/4G, but I believe the adaptive
band switching helps the battery life. I think even though it says 5G, it runs 4G unless you
really need the bandwith, and, are in range of a 5G signal.
