Korean Fold (SM-F907N) in Canada? - Samsung Galaxy Fold Questions & Answers

I guess I should have asked this before, lol, but I just purchased a Korean Fold mode SM-F907N which is supposedly unlocked. It's supposed to be the 5G version but we don't quite have that here so I am not worried about that. I am just wondering if regular LTE etc will work?
I purchased the Canadian Fold when it first came out and ended up returning it within the 2 week period as I was super paranoid about its longevity. However, I've been kicking myself since then. Purchased the Z Flip a couple weeks ago and it just wasn't cutting it...not the same.
Called around at Samsung store to see if I could buy the Fold again but I was told that they are not longer going to be getting them, even though Samsung online told me that I should be able to get them locally. Anyway, got frustrated and ordered a Korean version on eBay and just want to make sure everything will be good as I guess I still have likely a few hours to cancel the order if need be.
Thanks everyone.

It works perfectly in Vietnam with the LTE so it should be ok in your country!!! Mine is brand new and unlocked!!!

Great, thanks very much for your response. I just wasn't sure about what bands my carriers use in Canada vs what they use in Korea etc. But glad to see it shouldn't be an issue. Just waiting for it to be shipped now!

Glad I'm not the only one, sold my SM-F900F and went back to my Note 10 Plus for Android 10 and miss the Fold ever since. Just got a Canadian SM-F900W variant and will be using it daily again! I'm sure the SM-F907N variant will have all the bands for use in Canada, but LTE icon will be shown as 4G.

I find it strange that Sam Mobile doesn't have any Canadian firmwares for the fold.

Oh that's good to know, thanks for mentioning. Otherwise I would have always thought that I am not getting LTE.

I have been using SM-F907N since November 2019. Samsung Pay does not work in the US. It looks for a SIM from Korea! I use Android pay instead. I got security updates and got Android 10 a few days ago. Everything else seems to work OK. The screen has been doing fine although there are some fine scratches and the "fold". They don't interfere with viewing. The max screen resolution could be higher. I hope this helps.

Is it possible for me as an American to get an international note 7? Is it worth it?

I'm on AT&T, but no contract so, correct me if I'm wrong, there isn't any reason to buy the note from AT&T. How, as an American, do I buy the international version? The only place I see it is on amazon, where they're charging an extra 100$ for.
Additionally is there any reason not to go with the international version?
Just wait for the N930U. Or shell out the extra $100 for the exynos variant.
I'm personally getting the N930V with Verizon and I'll flash the U firmware later like I did with my S7 edge. You could do the same, unless you're more interested in a potential bootloader unlock.
The 930U is the unlocked American version? When does that even come out? I don't care about the bootloader, I just would prefer the exynos version because it's usually a slight bit better, but I'm not dropping 980$ on it.
The U version of the S7 was still a snapdragon. If you want the exynos, you'll need to get the international version. It's not out so that's probably why it's still pricey. If you want to save some cash just wait for it to be cheaper on Swappa or eBay.

Only $30 more than carrier pricing on eBay.

How did you flash the U version I thought Verizon has locked bootloaders and you couldn't make modifications ?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
It flashes through Odin. Since it's a stock firmware it flashed over just fine.

Here's another store selling for even less. I'm not sure if they charge tax though, but either way with any carrier upgrade you're looking at the phone price and tax anyways.

would it be worth it to spend 100$ more to buy the Exynos version? That's what I am wondering too...
are there any downside?
Isn't there more support for Exynos version and more battery saving?
If you're a Flashaholic like me it is definitely worth getting an unlocked Exynos version with its unlocked bootloader.
But the down side is lack of warranty and some of the frequencies that you're carrier uses may not be available on the International version

Thanks! that's what I was thinking! and Exynos version seems to have better battery as well!
As for frequencies - it looks like they are good for most Canadian wireless companies.
Do we know for sure if Exynos N930F will come with an unlocked bootloader? (still waiting to order mine)
And what about warranty? Isn't Samsung supposed to honor warranty no matter where you buy it from on brand new phones just launched for a year since their launch date (it only makes sense and they used to back in Galaxy S2 days - from experience) *sigh*

Nope, from what im seeing they wont honor warranty in the US if you buy an international phone. Thats my major hurdle right now. I would really like to get some type of warranty. Even contacted Squaretrade and they said no. So will try upsie.
it's been a few years since I bought international, last phone was s3, what's the current state of international Samsung phones on att? do we still only get 2 compatible bands? I know theres a thing where you have to use the phone for 5 mins in that country with the country Sim card, anything else I should know about? speed and coverage still good? i been out of the game a bit so I'm playing catch up here.

I am in the same boat as you. Being able to flash my phone and play around with it, is my version of a work day stress reliever. Being an owner of a S7E and my old reliable N4, I cant wait for the N7 to be released. I will be replacing my N4 with it so I need to make sure that the Intl version will be unlocked. Will be following the early reports that will soon start trickling in as units arrive to their new owners.
I may be able to help I'm in Thailand.

I bought the N7 from BHP (link you posted earlier) they have it available for pre-order and in the checkout they offered Square Trade for Warrenty - I also used Square Trade when I purchased the S7Edge (international Version) So I don't think it is giong to be a problem for you if you want to use Square Trade or any other major warrenty program like Upsie. Good Luck
Thanks Alot !

This is why I like this community. Thanks for coming back and updating. This was my biggest issue and you have now solved it. knowing I can get a warranty alleviates the what if's for me. I'm paranoid and always insure my devices even though i have never broken one. So I will be ordering from B&H as well. They seem very knowledgeable on unlocked phone issues from the FAQ and they don't charge tax in some states. All Im waiting for now is to see if Root is coming and development support. I'm on T-Mobile by the way so I will not get VoLTE and WiFi-calling but TEKHD said he will work on that in his ROM so I have some hope. Thanks again.

I am on ATT and use the G935F right now on ATT and it works great - I don't knwo for sure if the N930 (note 7) will be unlocked but it seems like it probably will be - I htink the chances are high that the bootloader is unlocked and if that turns out to be true, root is not too far away - just need to get it in the hands of a few devs who do that sort of thing - and all should be good. Fingers Crossed...

Interesting. What advantages does the U firmware have over the stock Verizon firmware, or are you just getting rid of all the Verizon bloat? Do you lose wifi calling and Samsung pay?

You lose all bloatware and Verizon apps. It essentially turns the phone into a stock Samsung expensive.
You will lose any carrier extras like wifi calling VOLTE and Verizon's own vvm service. For some reason they only allow you to install their voicemail apps on their phones. Samsung pay still works though, and to get around the voicemail issue I just use Google voice as a forwarding number if I don't answer. It's honestly better than any carrier voicemail service I've used as there's no extra charges and you get notifications anywhere.

What version S4 to get (Carrier, Unlocked US, Korean)?

So I have the S3 and talked the other half into why I need to upgrade!
I'm on AT&T and am using a US Cell S3 w VzW Oreo so am not afraid of porting and making it work.
I do want AT&T NumberSync though, which is why I'm leaning towards getting it direct. But, I've seen a few forums mention getting the Korean version for the 6GB of RAM.
I'm looking to be educated, so please let me know your thoughts. I need it to be cell.

IMO go with Korean. Unless you don't care about paying for additional tablet line and rooting.
I'm able to use my existing voice sim in the tablet and it has a phone app and messaging like a regular phone.
Originally I bought the Verizon version - no oem unlock, requires tablet sim and only 4gb ram
Basically only downside I can see to ordering Korean one through eBay is the time you have to wait for it to get here. Not that bad but not the instant gratification we all want! I never knew about ordering foreign tablets, was always scared off by lack of warranty. But due to how carriers restrict US tablets, I will be buying from Korea every time in the future.

Because the international version lacks a warranty, at least for USA consumers, I purchased a Squareteade warranty.
Being in HK, I'm not sure if a warranty might apply to you or not, or if there is another similar 3rd party warranty available.

so if i don purchase an extra warranty i can get it replaced only if it's damaged or not working properly?
also, does the extra warranty cover all imperfect problems observed including but not limited to those i mentioned above?
and how about rooted device? covered or not? for example, rooted but green lines found later?

Yes. I'm on TMobile can use play store, Samsung dialer as if it were a phone, texting everything. Works great no issues.
TMobile sees it as an unknown phone I notice no throttling whatsoever besides the same video throttling that applies to all phones. (A VPN handles that anways. )

Note 10+ Exynos (international) on Sprint

Hey guys,
I just purchased the 4G Note 10+ from Samsung in the US (I'm on Sprint and they only offered the 5G for Verizon customers). I currently have a Note 5 (about time for an upgrade). My concern is that after a bunch of research, I won't be able to do the things I've enjoyed doing on my Note 5. So, I am considering returning the one I ordered from Samsung in the US and ordering the Note 10+ Exynos version from a website like Clove so that I can still root it. I don't care about Samsung Pay or WiFi calling, so I'm fine losing those.
From my understanding, CDMA doesn't work well with Sprint on Exynos. I even heard some talk about it being throttled. Should I be concerned?
Will the 5G work with Sprint now or in the future, even though they have an exclusive deal with Verizon right now and are there any gotchas?
Can I just request a SIM card from Sprint or I do I need to do something funky with an international SIM first?
Is there anything else to look out for or that I'm not considering?

Thank you. I believe you are absolutely right. You just saved me a lot of hassle.
I'm going to return the phone I ordered and wait for the (hopefully) OnePlus 7 Pro 5G Sprint variant to come out.
Honestly, I was tired of having to choose between being able to backup my phone (basically all I want root for) or being able to encrypt my phone (which is lost when you root it). With the OnePlus 7 Pro I could do all that, not have a hole in my screen, it's cheaper, and would be 5G too. So whatever. I'll miss the SDCard and wireless charging, but that's about it. Too bad neither have a headphone jack, that might have kept me on it too. Okay, done ranting. Thanks again!

It's speculation, but there's a good chance. I'll probably hold out for more information until October at the latest before I plan a switch.

Pixel 2 XL 2019

Is purchasing a Pixel 2 XL in 2019 worth it? I had originally purchased this phone immediately upon release but then the news of the screen issues surfaced and I cancelled my order. I was purchasing one sight unseen and didn't want to get a device with issues. I went and looked at roughly 6 devices between Best Buy and Verizon, after cancelling my order, and they all exhibited pretty significant blue shift and each phone was slightly different. This made cancelling my order a smart thing in my opinion. Paying $900+ for a phone with a crappy screen isn't something I would ever consider. I bought the Galaxy S9+ instead and it's display is utterly astonishing, truly spectacular.
Now to the present, I have just purchased two Pixel 2 XLs, one a factory replacement and the other a lightly used unit. Paid $330 total and I thought that was an excellent deal. The interesting thing is that both these phones have screen that are significantly better than the ones I viewed nearly 2 years ago. They are for my parents as Christmas gifts and it's now got me thinking that maybe I should jump on one.
I found the below listing on eBay and was wonder if it seems legit. Says the devices are new. Should I take a shot at one you think?

It seems legit, and that's a good price, however, it appears to be a Verizon variant, which means you probably can't unlock the bootloader if you wanted to root it.

It's odd cause it says Verizon GSM Unlocked. Verizon isn't GSM it's CDMA and why would it also say Unlocked. I believe the seller is in Hong Kong so I think it just might be an English thing.

Basically means that it's carrier unlocked. The P2XL will work on GSM networks as well.

That's what I was thinking but the way the guy lists the heading is confusing. If you look at the item details it says AT&T, T-Mobile, Unlocked, Verizon. Would be easier if it just stated unlocked and works with all major US carriers. In any case I have asked the seller a direct question to confirm the fact it is unlocked. I am still rocking my S9+ which just updated to Android 10 and have been thrilled with it, but not having root and the ability to backup all my data is annoying. Even though the displays on the devices I just bought are way better than the initial XL releases, they still aren't as good as the S9+. Samsung simply makes the best displays. Hard to pass up $269 for a brand new factory Pixel 2 XL though. Unfortunately the Pixel 3 XL and Pixel 4 XL just don't do it for me, and the 4 XL isn't getting great reviews.

I hear ya on the Sammy displays! My wife's note 9 display is beautiful. Having said that, it still has stutters from time to time, lots of bloat, and no root. I absolutely love my rooted P4XL despite what the reviews say. Runs like a champ, and I get 2 day battery life because I'm a light user. I came from the P2XL, which I still keep as my backup. It was a great device for 2 years, and still works great. However, it feels really slow compared to my P4XL :good:

Did the P4XL go back to using Samsung displays? I know the P2XL used LG P-OLED. I just wish they wouldn't hadn't done away with the fingerprint biometric reader.
It's a tough choice to give up my S9+ and try out the P2XL. I've got used to the S9+ and the UI doesn't bother me, especially since I installed the Pixel 2 XL Launcher . The S9+ is snappy and beautiful, but not root capable, and that's a bummer. S9+ also has expandable memory, wireless charging, and headphone jack. Man it's a tough call, I've been kicking it around for days now. The money isn't the issue at all, it's the giving up the S9+ itself, I have enjoyed it. It's the best not rooted phone I have ever had, and I haven't had a single issue with it. In the end, I am still looking to switch to the Pixel platform, but definitely didn't like the P3XL and I'm still evaluating the P4XL. We'll see what the P5XL brings to the table.

You're serious S9+ cannot be rooted?
Root is essential for me. I can't live without AdAway, Titanium Backup and Island.

Nope, Snapdragon version can't be rooted. It really does suck as Android still doesn't allow backup of all app data via Google drive backup. I should say that developers have disabled backup within their app, Google doesn't control it. So you're left completely setting up your new phone for the apps that don't allow Google drive backup. Samsung has a great app, Smart Switch, but it still suffers from app developers who have disabled app backup.

This method still works for backing everything up to your pc if you'd like to give it a try. No root required :good:

Unfortunately, I have tried this and any app that has ADB backup disabled will not backup. This is the same method the app Helium attempts to use and many apps won't backup because the developer has set ADB backup to disable.

Well ain't that a kick in the can! Guess that's why we like to root. At least for now, and until android becomes iOS 2.0, TiBu still works for user apps.
I went ahead and pulled the string on the eBay listing I posted. It's definitely a seller in Hong Kong so that worries me a bit. Luckily VISA or Mastercard are pretty good if you get scammed. Happened to me once on a purchase that was made out of China. The item I got was not as described and PayPal unfortunately wouldn't resolve it for some reason. Kind of irritated me that they wouldn't, but my VISA took care of it and performed a charge back no problems at all. If it comes and is perfect by all accounts, I'll let folks know it's legit. For that price you could get a fresh P2XL and rock on for years to come.

I wish you luck my friend, and hope that you can indeed root that device. However, don't be overly surprised if you can't ?

Yeah if I get the feeling that it's carrier locked, I'll send it back. No way I would go this route if root isn't possible. We will see I guess, hoping for the best.

This isn't correct. Verizon is both GSM and CDMA now, and as of January 1, 2020 they will be dropping support for CDMA completely.

Verizon isn't GSM. It's currently CDMA and LTE with 5G rolling out. That article simply states that old 3G and non-HD voice 4G will no longer be able to activate on Verizon's network. Verizon has never been GSM, to my knowledge. Soon there will be no such thing as GSM or CDMA, only 4G and 5G, and whatever comes after that.

Question Is Esim enabled at launch in the USA?

Just need to confirm that Esim is enabled in the USA at launch. The fold 3 fiasco with Esim has me doubting, so need to confirm prior to ordering
I think it's safe to say yes as the S22 Ultra worked out of the box.
It BETTER be FFS!
Samsung has a mixed bag on this and the last fold did not work dual sim
They announced esim is available
Went to Best buy today to play with one. Flip 4 had Sim manager in the connections settings. Fold 4 did not. Guess will try a different best buy lol

I think this may be carrier specific.
My Flip3 that I got from Verzion in June did NOT have sim manager. I flashed an unlocked ROM and got it.
If it doesn't have it out of the box (unlocked), that is going to make some heads roll, I will tell you that.

Yes and neither did the S21 Ultra and Flip 3.
At this point in the game I would be very surprised if any Samsung flagship didn't have it out of the box.
Well, pre ordered today. Lets hope...lol
I went on BestBuy's site, and had a chat with a 'geek' named Olivia. They sell the TMO locked version ( I bought the unlocked, but plan to have TMO SIM in it, so my bet it will boot into a TMO environment like the locked ones). As per very SPECIFIC questions I was told that the Fold 4 supports eSIM. I asked in three ways , and 2 out of the three questions were , in short. a 'YES' , the fold 4 US version under TMO will support eSIM to cover non TMO USA territories. The third question, if she can tell me if the menu under setting->connections have a SIM manager menu, was ignored.
Did I learn something new? NO. Do I know eSIM is supported? NOT SURE. I guess we will know around August 24th to 26th when the pre-orders from Samsung come in... Or maybe someone who got his AMAZON order maybe kind enough and share if the menu indeed exists..
My fear, before entering a TMO SIM, it will be there, and as soon as a TMO SIM will be entered, the menu will be gone... I have no doubt Samsung has the hardware. I will check the setting BEFORE I place the TMO SIM and will see...
Best Buy's chat support are either AI bots or 3rd world employees being paid $1/day. I wouldn't put any faith in them whatsoever. They're about as reliable as Samsung chat support.
Also beware in order to use embedded sim the device cannot be locked to a different carrier. For example if you have TMO and buy a device from them on EIP, it will be locked to them. It should work with two lines but not with Verizon or ATT. The only exception is if you pay in full and wait 45 days for them to approve an unlock request. Of course if paying cash it makes sense to buy unlocked in the first place. ;-)
Yeah, I am fully aware they know nothing of the devices they sell.. and I am well aware this is for fully purchased TMO devices. I did speak to a real person, and I did not get the answers I trust to be the truth.. I really hope SOMEONE who got his unlocked device from Amazon already will share his experience. With all the things I bought in my life at Best Buy, service and warranty by their 'Geek' squad was never something I paid for..
Man, I currently use eSim on my S21 that I am trading in. You guys got me nervous that i won't be able to setup my Fold 4 when i get it haha. I might need to order a TMO sim just in case lol.
Confirmed by TMO at a US store that the TMO version has Esim enabled. Saw it myself with a TMO sim inserted

Confirmed for T-Mobile i just enabled my Esim.
Yup. I did mine yesterday when I got my Fold
When I got mine yesterday, I had to insert the sim card from the Fold3, then go online to chat with a rep to get it activated. Tmobile device.
Wow, in the UK, all I did was 'Transfer e-Sim" on EE's site/app and plonk away it went after scanning the QR. My watch 4 to watch 5 e-sim swap however.....
Just want to clarify....
Esim is live for T-Mobile only..
Atnt straight talk and Verizon don't connect, they can't. I've been told by Samsung directly to wait for an update like the fold 3 for esim support to go live for them...
Came from a OnePlus 8 pro running atnt and Verizon and was slapped in the face when I found out this 0hones 1sim+1esim I was under the assumption the unlocked one was going to be dual sim..
So I'm trying to deal with Verizon through sim card for the time being. Verizon also doesn't have a slightest clue what my device is either, it read the 8 pro, now it just shows nothing in my account for a phone.
