Changing BT audio settings in dev options - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

I'd like to maximize the audio quality for my ear buds but the settings won't stick-- they can be changed on the Developers options page but they don't stick. For instance- if I select aptX as the bt audio codec it displays aptX but the phone reverts to the default SBC. Same goes for sample rate, bits per sample and and LDAC playback quality. The options are there but you can't force the phone to use them... Does it require the phone be rooted to make these settings work?

The earbuds you are using should support all the codecs.
Else it will revert back to default which is SBC even if you force it in developer settings.

Thanks very much for the reply. These are the new Ear buds plus so the problem lies with them not the phone. Much appreciated Kiran-Kumar.

I remember reading somewhere that the buds support aac and scalable codecs additionally apart from the default one...Did you try choosing them in the dev options?
Also check under bluetooth settings against the paired device( buds in your case ), click on the setting icon at the right corner and see if there are some settings to be enabled.

They do support aac and scalable. I set it to scalable, where I've done most of my testing. Can't hear any difference between that and aac so far- it's kind of subtle. The buds are good but I know they can be a lot better. Appreciate the help.

Bluetooth codec, aptX-HD, AAC, LDAC, etc

Does the Nokia 6.1 (with Pie) support HD bluetooth codecs? Did someone tried to pair with sony or others headphones and check if LDAC is working?
I'm not much of an audiophile myself. I've never tested any of these out, but here's what bluetooth codec selection looks like in developer options.

yeah but it seems it does not work, everytime you exit the option, it go back to default.
I tested a BT speaker Sony XB40 and a car stereo Pioneer NEX, and both have "HD Audio" in their bluetooth properties displaying "HD Audio: AAC". I cannot change it, I tried to change the codec in the dev option, but it does nothing.
I don't think the developer options are meant to be changed. I think they are there to show what the phone auto-selects when playing.
This screenshot is from another phone, while playing to an AptX device. I think it works the same way on Nokia.

Aptx settings won't save

Hello, as the title says everytime I connect my bt Earbuds I have ți manually select aptx from dev menu. Do you know how I can have them saved?
Thank you
Change name of your device in bluetooth and add "_NOAAC"
By som reason LG will always use aac over apt-x. By adding _NOAAC it skips aac codex and connects with aptx..
Hello, thanks for your reply. I did change the name, but it doesn't work..
Did I do something wrong?
You should ADD not replace xD
In example: i have headphones ATH-DSR7BT
then it should be ATH-DSR7BT_NOAAC
Personally i don't know if it's working. I didn't know that method and my headphones supports aptx HD

It worked, thank you guys.
Another thing, how do I keep this setting saved? It always resets to (best effort adaptive bit rate)
These are setting for LDAC codec used mostly by Sony Headphones. If your headphones doesn't use LDAC, then you shouldn't worry. For the rest of codecs it doesn't matter.
As far as i know, Sony have app for their headphones, and that app will set everything properly.
So, these options should remain untouched.

Audio Codec Settings

Does anybody know how to get the audio codecs to change from sbc to any other setting and have them stick?no matter what I do it reverts back to sbc.
The device say if you are using a bluetooth headset should support other codecs like aptx, LDAC etc.,
I use Sony XB series bluetooth headphone, the audio codec in developer options sticks to LDAC only if I choose the headphones connection for quality in the Sony app.....else by default it reverts to SBC.

It will revert to SBC when nothing is connected. It will switch as soon as you connect an audio device. When I connect my Bluedio Victory, it switches to APTX on it´s own. The same applies to my car (also APTX) and to Galaxy Buds+ which use the Samsung Scalable Codec.
There's a setting within Developer mode to switch which codec to use

I had 2 harmon kardon Onyx 3 Bluetooth speakers connected and no matter what I did it switched back to sbc tried every codec nothing stuck,I would change it and as soon as I brought up the section in developer options it was back to sbc.

It seems that the Harman/Kardon Onyx 3 does not support any other codec than SBC. The phone won´t let you change the codec and revert back to SBC if the speaker does not support it.
Well Thank you for that information I did not know that.

Samsung S20 Exynos and bluetooth audio codecs

Regarding the Exynos variants of the S20 family (standard, plus and Ultra). Do they natively support Aptx and AAC bluetooth audio codecs?
If so, how is the experience? When connecting a supported TWS, does it automatically transmit via the best codec available (presumably Aptx > AAC > SBC)? Or do you need to manually switch to AptX/AAC in the Developer Options, with the phone reverting to SBC whenever it is reconnected to the device?
Haha yes, I'm fully aware that both phone and earbuds need to support said codecs. It is just that I'm reading conflicting reports online. Even reports confirming that it does support AptX and AAC, often they say they need to fiddle in the developer options to make the connection stick to the desired codec – so it is either the user not really knowing their hardware or Samsung user experience on these devices being suboptimal.
The Samsung Scalable codec is the highest resolution codec for the Buds. LDAC is better if the audio device supports it, few do.
Normally SSC is auto enabled when you connect the Galaxy Buds. You can manually set it (or view current codec setting) in Developer options.
The phone will shift codecs on the fly depending on the source.
No Galaxy Buds in my case, mate. I've got an assortment of TWS and they vary between aptx, aptx HD and AAC codecs.
The conflicting reports I've read are indeed all about third party audio devices and the spotty codec implementation. In theory looks like at least the snapdragon S20s should be able to deal with them, but (1) I've yet to see it confirmed regarding the Exynos phones and (2) people still report having a hard time making the phone stick with Aptx or AAC without it reverting to SBC.
I go with either LDAC wireless buds or headphones.
Or the Galaxy Buds+. I have the Buds+, with Poweramp they sound pretty good, great for calls, very good battery life and link up fast.
The highest available resolution codecs for the bt chipset on the phone are LDAC then SSC; Aptx and AAC are inferior to the two former ones.
This is a chipset hardware limitation; no firmware upgrade can improve it ie no AptX-HD will be possible.
All the latest Sammy's phones have this huge short coming.
Take my first suggestion and be happy... good as it gets.
Haha thank you! I'll probably clear my cart though. Never had a samsung phone and was closing the deal on a S20+ when it crossed my mind that Aptx et al is a Qualcomm codec, so I should not take it for granted on an Exynos phone.
Unfortunately I have no interest in switching to the galaxy Buds. It's been a long way on the TWS road already - MPOW, Shanling, Edifier, Fiil, Bomaker. They all have different codecs but they usually sound their best either with AAC or Aptx. Listening through SBC on them usually gives a pretty metallic sound like if I had a pair of tin cans for headphones.
I'm sure the buds work wonders with SSC* as it's been highly reviewed time and time again but I'm not willing to take a leap of faith with my devices nor to invest even more on a new TWS.
Hi,
I have a sony wh-1000xm4 which supports ldac. But I cannot select the ldac codec in the developer option. It is fixed at aac. I can only downgrade to sbc. I have s20 exynos version.

In order for you to select the LDAC codec you need to do the following:
1. Connect your headset via Bluetooth to your S20.
2. Install the Sony app for the headset
3. Configure your headset in the Sony app with the following setting: SonyApp > Headphones > Sound Quality Mode > Priority on Sound Quality
4. Go to the general Bluetooth settings (swide down and hold your finger onto the Bluetooth icon) and from the list of connected bluetooth devices press on the "wheel" icon next to your Sony device.
5. Turn on the switch where it says: Codecs > LDAC
Now what you also should know is that LDAC is only superior to the other codecs, yes even the Samsung's scalable codec, if you turn up the Bluetooth Audio LDAC Codec's Playback Quality to the max "990kbps/909kbps".
If you don't turn that up you're better off with one of the aptX codecs than LDAC. Search the internet for all the details.
Do the following steps only after you've done the above steps to configure your S20 to use the highest quality for the LDAC codec:
Activate "Developer options" on your Android (skip this step if you already did that):
1. Go to Settings > About phone > Software information > repeatedly tap on the text "Build number" and agree to unlock developer mode.
Configure the LDAC codec on Android to its full potential:
2. Go to Settings > Developer options > Bluetooth Audio LDAC Code: Playback Quality > tap on the text > choose "Optimized for Audio Quality (990kbps/909kbps)"
Please note that till date (June 2021) Android still automatically resets this playback quality setting to the lowest if you disconnect your headset and reconnect, so it is necessary to do this step everytime you connect your headset. Unfortunately, Google nor Samsung seems to have any intention whatsoever to fix this issue with the developer options. Some ppl actually are going full Stockholm and try to convince themselves and others that this is normal behavior for the dev settings, they argue that the dev settings isn't a normal app and therefore it's actually supposed to not remember your settings for it.
I think if you already spent the money on a decent headset like yours, why not use it to its fullest potential? After all good sound enhances your overall experience of life.
Got this from Samsung executive via Chat feature on their website:
S20 FE 5G:
"terms of Connectivity there is Dual Band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth® 5.0 + LE, A2DP (HD codecs: AptX, AptX HD, LDAC, AAC), NFC, Samsung-exclusive MST feature is available. "

Question Low Bluetooth volume on true wireless earbuds Xiaomi 11T

First, I apologize I'm posting in this forum regarding Xiaomi 11T, but there are no similar cases in it's forum.
So I recently bought Xiaomi 11T, about a month ago, and the volume on my true wireless earbuds is extremely low compared to my older phone (Xiaomi Mi A1), which was running on Android 9. Same is the case when I use earbuds with laptop (and the laptop has a much older Bluetooth version 4.2, I guess). So I looked it up and did find a possible solution but the phone had to be factory reset to solve through that solution, which I don't want to do because it's frustrating doing it all again. *I tried solving (linked below) this by following the steps except the resetting one, but it did not solve this issue. *I have already tried changing the region. I'm in Pakistan, so I changed it to US, India and also restarted and re-paired the earbuds, but it still didn't solve.
So is there any way that I can solve the low volume issue without resetting the phone?
DO NOTE that "Disable absolute volume" option in developer options is TURNED OFF.
Solution which requires resetting the phone
I copy-pasted this from my post in Xiaomi 11T Pro forum, but found no solutions.
So please let me know if any of you know any solutions to this issue.
I'm not an expert, but I remember some things of time ago:
1. EU rom has some limitations for earphones volume due to European regulations, so you would need to change the region or even the rom if this is your case.
2. Disable "absolute volume" in your paired Bluetooth device (your TWS), I know you have disabled it in developer options, but look for that same option in the paired device section.
3. Enable MI Sound Enhancer and try with the different options. It always helps me to improve the audio.
Please share your results, if this doesn't work, I will look for my earbuds and try to remember what I did to fix that.
Add: Also, if your earbuds have integrated volume control buttons, check if the volume control is "synchronized" with the phone, first time I use my earbuds in my Poco F3, the volume of the earbuds and the phone was independent.
Add 2: I take a look at my earphones, if you disabled absolute volume, you need to turn up the volume directly from your earphones. I have enabled absolute volume because of that.
Hi. Thank you for the reply.
1 ) I have tried changing the region and it still was the same.
2) I don't have the option for disabling "Disable Absolute volume" in Bluetooth section paired device section, nor in the advanced settings, as shown in the screenshot below.
3) Mi Sound section is grayed out for me, even when the earbuds are connected.
I did notice that earbuds and phone are not synchronized. Volume of earbuds is adjusted separately to the volume of the phone. So how do I sync them? Please let me know.

Hi,
To synchronize the volume of both devices, just enable absolute volume again, we already know that's not the problem, so do it.
MI 11T has atmos right? Change sound preset to video and try with the next set up in atmos settings.
Also, you can try disabling "sound enhancement" from game booster options.
If you have enabled absolute volume again, changed the preset to video, tried the setup in atmos settings, disabled the sound enhancement from game turbo, and the issue is not fixed, I can't help you, but I will be pretty sure that the problem will be the earbuds.
Edit: You could play with the sound codecs of developer settings as last resource.

I enabled "Disable Absolute volume" as you said, and set the preset to Video as well. And this is as close as I could get with the equalizer settings (they're horrible to set). And there is a positive difference than before. But it still isn't as loud as before or with other devices.
And I couldn't find any "sound enhancements" in Game Turbo.
There is no option of Media Volume sync, as it is in Samsung. I tried looking it up and it said that it is now built-in Android 10 onwards? I don't know.
But I tried the earbuds with laptop, and they're so much better, just like before. And I change the Bluetooth codec to AAC, but it automatically reverts back to SBC. I don't know anything about audio or codecs. So any guesses

I think this option (Adjust sound to earphones) might help, since it looks like media sync option. But I don't know why Mi Sound is grayed out.

First, please resize the images you attached in the comments, are huge.
The "enhanced audio" option is in "Performance mode".
Now I remember MI Sound Option is only available for wire earphones.
Even if disabling Enhanced Audio from Gameturbo don't fix the issue , keep it disabled. If it is enabled, when you start some game or app that use game turbo, the sound turns to sht.
The absolute volume feature must be enabled to sync the volume of both devices.
Honestly, I have no idea what else could you try; well, yes, some equalizers have the option to artificially increase the volume, maybe that could solve the problem in some way.
In my experience, the loudness enhancer of Equalizer FX works very well.
If FX doesn't work, try the app "Boom" by GlobalDelight, It has a free trial, imo is the best app for music (super recommended for windows too), and when I use it, my head explodes if I turn up full volume.

Sorry for the huge images. I new to posting threads, so I don't have much experience or etiquettes of threads.
I have turned off Enhanced audio and turned on "Disable Absolute volume", and still audio is not synced. And just increasing the volume isn't my goal. Rather I want it to work properly, as intended.
Anyways, do you think that the solution that I have linked in the original post, would work?

Disable Absolute Volume has to be turned off, not on, I mean, you need to have absolute volume enabled.
Try with FX loudness enhancement, could work.
Idk if the post solution will work, but I think you need to try.
