ESIm question - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

If I have ESim activated and working and I install a new firmware with Odin, the SIM continues working without doing anything else ...

Not today , there is no support for esim in current firmware .
May be in future with potential firmware update, but support agents are not clear and keep playing with words saying it's upto carriers and carrier says it's upto Samsung .

I do not know if I explained well. My Esim works well. But if later I install a firmware, like the one I have, it will continue to work or I will have to activate it again by calling the Operator ... this is the question

ah ok, typically firmware updates shouldn't impact ESIM. But I am not sure if you do firmware upgrade via ODIN.
My comment earlier is esim in US Version of S20.

can OTA Oreo update be transferred from 1 SIM card to another

I have purchased my Honor Pro 8 in India while traveling here. It is an unlocked phone with an Indian monthly cash card from Vodaphone.
There is an OTA Orep update available here in India now for this Indian SIM card, BUT... if I would install the Oreo update here in Indian on the Indian SIM, will it continue to work in my native SIM card I use regularly in Sweden; also a monthly cash card, unlocked
I worry that it could disable or BRICK my phone making it useless.
Is the Oreo update Indian specific for Indian SIMs, or can it work when I return home and put in my Swedish SIM.
...AND...if not..when is the projected roll out for that Oreo update for Sweden ?
Thanks for your help
RL
Hi there,
I am no expert by any means. But I will try to answer.
Your question seems to have a flaw in itself. You bought the H8Pro in India which means the device is tuned for Indian networks, no doubt. Will it work in Sweden? It must work, because it seems to support all global network bands.
Regarding Oreo update, if you thought that Nougat would work in Sweden, why not Oreo? And Oreo is not tied to any sim. It is specific to the device and not the networks. So you can go ahead and update to Oreo and enjoy its features. Bests.

Thanks for your reply...so you are saying it SHOULD work regardless of whatever SIM card is used; even if it will be from another country soon...I just don't want to update it here only to find out that for some reason it won't work in Sweden, and in fact, could shut my phone down....you're absolutely sure about this ??
The only reason your phone wouldn't work at home is if the phone isn't compatible with the network bands in Sweden. Your phone cannot be bricked or disabled by the software. Hell, I am running Chinese firmware on my phone and I live in Canada. This phone isn't even sold here!

Changing CSC on A520F/DS -- a couple of questions

Hi guys and girls of XDA!
I have recently bought a used A5 2017 Dual SIM on eBay and I am in awe with its battery life even after the Oreo upgrade.
However, Samsung does not sell Dual SIM models here in Germany, my model comes from Iran (CSC: THR)
I have read the forum, but I haven't found answers to my questions.
I want to flash a DBT version onto my phone ans I have a couple of questions.
1) I have a DS model which were never available on a German market. Will Dual SIM work after I flash and will I get updates after I flash?
2) The german version of (mono-SIM) firmware, which is available on Sammobile still has A520FXXU7CRH9 baseband. I have already updated to the -I9 one. Does that mean that I cannot revert back o the H9 and will have to wait until german phones get I9?
3) My phone came with a sticker "Middle Eastern and African SIM only". Both slots work with German (and some other) SIMs as of now. Will this setting revert back and it will be locked to those SIMs, if I change CSC?
4) If I will apply the Combination CSC from Sammobile , will I get access to every region-locked option without tripping knox?
Thanks in advance!
Alex.
Anybody here? up!
I don't know the answers to your specific questions - but if the dual sim (Iran) phone you have works with your german sims why are you trying to reflash it?
Is there a problem or something that is not working?
I live in New Zealand and have an imported UAE (United Arab Emirates) 2017 A5 with dual SIM and it works just fine. I havent tried the second sim, but have heard of other people that have and it works as expected. The phone doesnt have any UAE junkware. You are right - the battery life on this phone is great. I did find the always on display uses more battery that I like though. Really wish they had an option that just turned the AOD on when you got a notification (new email/text/missed call etc) but Samsung don't seem to want to provide useful features like this. I came from a galaxy Note 2 and miss that little notification LED
If it helps, I see that the A520F and A520F/DS do not have different firmware - I have searched and there are plenty of posts on this forum where people have flashed Dual SIM hardware with the 'standard' A520F software and report that the dual SIM functionality works fine.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/samsung-a-series-2017/help/sm-a520f-to-sm-a520f-ds-t3704566
The DS model was never officially sold in new Zealand (the single SIM model was) but I have received the Oreo update and several security updates for my phone anyway since I bought it.
Hi, thanks for your reply!

I get 26-28 hours of norml usage.
However one thing that irritates me is why it loses up to 10% over the night? Everything is closed and AOD is off, too. Other than that I had to uninstall Chrome because it literally ate up trice as much battery as everything else added up, including screen.
Not sure about your overnight power loss - sounds a litle high...
I use my phone very little and usually only charge it every 4 or 5 days.
AOD uses more power than I like (I have seen 1% an hour mentioned and that is probably about right), so I switched that off.
Really annoyed that Samsung havent made an AOD setting that only enables the AOD on when there are notifications (Missed call, new messages). I would really find that useful.
Have searched all over but cant find any apps that will do this.
For those interested, here is what happened.
1) I have a DS model which were never available on a German market. Will Dual SIM work after I flash and will I get updates after I flash?
Basically, it is the same model and the same firmware. The "normal" firmware for a non-Dual-SIM market works perfectly with a DS model and gets updates via OTA.
2) The german version of (mono-SIM) firmware, which is available on Sammobile still has A520FXXU7CRH9 baseband. I have already updated to the -I9 one. Does that mean that I cannot revert back o the H9 and will have to wait until german phones get I9?
The main thing is that ninth digit ("7") because it represents the revision of the firmware. As long as it is the same, you can flash it. If not you will get a brick.
3) My phone came with a sticker "Middle Eastern and African SIM only". Both slots work with German (and some other) SIMs as of now. Will this setting revert back and it will be locked to those SIMs, if I change CSC?
It didn`t happen to me.
4) If I will apply the Combination CSC from Sammobile , will I get access to every region-locked option without tripping knox?
I did as follows.
I flashed the DBT firmware from SamMobile and got myself a british code because it is a standard one in this Multi-CSC.
Knox not tripped. But VoLTE and VoWiFi still not working
Then I found the Combination ROM (FACTORY BINARY) with the same revision as the firmware (See question 2 about the "7").
I flashed it, dialed some USSD code. Then menu appeared from which I could choose the product code.
I chose DBT, wiped the data and cache and voila, I had a DBT phone with working VoLTE and VoWiFi otb.
Knox not tripped 0x0 !

Emui 10

Emui 10 beta in Germany
Odd, I read a few days ago that the initial beta would only be open in China, with other regions following at a later date.
I can't even install the Friendly User Test client here. Keeps complaining about needing the latest Huawei Mobile Service application, but there is no update available for it when I check on Google Play. Maybe the Canadian model lacks that particular service.
Same here in Malaysia
Nothing here in Bulgaria still ... I check frequently . I even tried to change regions but with no luck .
I've installed the beta app but not sure I want to update, the list of bugs include some features I want to work, like front camera night mode
Maybe will have been fixed by the time it's offered here, videos I've watched show the UI and features looking pretty much the same as 9 too, although that was a couple month old video
Nothing here in Slovenia
Beta is up
Nice. How long did you have to wait to subscribe? I just sent the request to join the project. I'm in France, C431E4R2P2
I am confused . In that huawei page they said that Bulgaria wont be included for the beta emui but they specify that ELE-L29 9.1.0.193(C431E4R2P2) that will get . I am in Bulgaria and I have the exact same model . So when we will get it ? Every other eu country got it but not mine . I am checking everyday 2-3 times and I will be mad if we dont get it ... My model number is the same with same 193 software update .

How long does it take usually to push the OTA Update onto your system? I only get bloated with notifications of the annoying carrier updates which I won't install for obv. reasons.
Thank yall ♥

Are you sure about that? In first place I wasn't able to join the beta at all, since it told me you cannot join if you're running a carrier version of Android. Thus I had to hard reset my phone. :/

.193 is the required firmware and also the latest available carrier
You should not be getting update notifications for carrier firmware if you flashed unbranded/global or whatever the non carrier is called on Huawei, and a reset alone won't remove carrier firmware
What you don't get is that for some carriers, when you put sim on the phone, it downloads a software update which installs over the original firmware. It works as a layer.
When you reset your phone without putting the sim on, you get the original firmware without this carrier layer. That's how I could join the project. Then I put the sim on again because you can't join the project without a sim on the phone.

I think you are not right . Does't matter . The phones are unlocked . For example my phone is c431 model and it's listed in the huawei topic that we will get beta but nothing for now . Carriers dont install anything on your phone . Its not branded !
See above :
There is the usual firmware, plus a software layer installed by... The carrier. It's downloading itself right away when i put my sim on.
I never said it would lock the phone. But with this carrier software, you can not join the project (it claims the firmware is not compatible). I had to reset my phone to delete this carrier software, then put my sim and join the project before installing the carrier software.

Flashing S20+ SM-G9860

I recently obtained a Samsung S20+ SM-G9860. However, I am in the US and am intending to flash the AT&T firmware for the SM-G986U. When I try to do this, I get a secure check fail on the PIT file due to the differing model. Is there a way to circumvent this? The two models have identical hardware from what I can see.
Is it possible to do this, and what is the process for doing this if it is indeed possible?
You cannot flash a rom built for a snapdragon chipset on a phone with a exynos chipset
Be thankful there is that safety check built in. Lol

The hardware isn't identical, SM-G986U is a Single SIM Device, your's is a Dual SIM.. TGY is the CSC in your device and even if you could flash SM-G986U Firmware the CSC would not change, it will still be TGY. If you're looking to get full AT&T call functionality on your device it's not possible as the CSC doesn't support AT&T compatibility. Firmware is CSC specific as well.

If your device is the SM-G986U it's a Single SIM Device which doesn't at this point doesn't support eSim. Does the SIM Management Screen actually display the word "eSim"? Share a photo please. The device is likely still locked by Verizon. What is your motivation to change the Firmware to SM-G9860, do you live in Hong Kong?
Im sorry unfortunately I cant post links for my screenshots or upload any pictures..

I bought my phone online.. When I start up my phone it says Verizon, but its unlocked though because I can use any country physical simcard. Like right now im using my local simcard in Malaysia. I live in Malaysia and the reason I want to flash rom my SM-G986U device to Hong Kong firmware is so that I can use any eSim network in my country for my other network phone number.... If its a software for eSim that I can get for firmware that will be very helpful. Because the main local Malaysian samsung s20+ 5G firmware model is base on Exynos 990 which I doubt will fit for my US phone model..
I don't think you can flash SM-9860 Firmware onto your device but even if you could you still won't have eSim capability. Mix and matching firmware typically has more success on Exynos International Variants since they are Multi-CSC Enabled Devices. So if you have a British CSC (VOD) you may have success flashing German Firmware (VD2) since both CSC's are already stored in the device however even then some call features may not work. Snapdragon Devices don't have Multi-CSC's and as mentioned previously the Firmware is CSC Specific, they're made for one another. IF you had an Unlocked Bootloader, which you don't, there may be a method to modify the CSC once you root the device.. I did follow a thread a couple of years back where a gal had some success modifying her CSC on a Snapdragon Device but I believe that was a Galaxy S8. Also, I'm still curious if the word "eSim" actually appears in the SIM Management Screen on your device.

Damn.. that is some nice insights.. I really want to upload some links of the screenshot but for now I cant do anything as Im a new member.. I just have to wait for the network shop to open up to change my current esim card to physical simcard.. its been 2 months plus of this coronavirus lockdown and our network providers cant do much about it too..
Anyways I really appreciate the insights, like you said even if I could flash in Hong Kong SM-9860 in to my US SM-G986U, I might run into some software or calls dysfunctionalities..

Every carrier? What? I know of 3 versions of a11 for the G8; 1) the korean Open 2) The Verizon version 3) The Canadian Open.
Hardly 'every carrier'. Updates are coming, slowly, and there is no guarantee any one individual carrier will update their software. That's an LG issue really, they have contracts with carriers with various stipulations that can affect say US Open version, which supposedly can't be updated unless all the other carriers update theirs first. It's complicated.
Call t-mobile, they can tell you when / if an update will be available. And of course, there's always the issue of what you've done to your phone. If you do something like unlock the bootloader, you won't get an update even if there is one.
cheers

Actually, that's not the US Open variant, that's the CCA variant. I'm not sure what the difference is, maybe someone can elaborate.
The lg firmware site has it listed as the US Open, but download and compare the hash tags, they don't match. But if you download the CCA version the hash will match.
I've actually never heard of CCA before, it's Competitive Carriers Association, I've heard of BrightPoint, etc, but not cca. Until someone tries it, we're not sure which carriers it's compatible with re volte and vowifi type stuff.
cheers

Additionally VoWiFi worked with the Canadian Open but it's not working with this rom. The default email app is also missing in the US version.
The software version shows as V30c-USA-XX, with a security patch of Dec '21.

Interesting that it's not working vowifi and nt error code, that should absolutely not be the case if it was the USA version, no way. At least not if you're here in the states.
Where are u using it? Canada? That might be at least part of the reason, have you ever used the a10 US Open there? How did that work?

Sorry for not clarifying earlier, I'm using the phone in India
To get volte and vowifi to work, I change the target region & country to ESA and operator to OPEN in cust.prop. And i also edit the carrier_code, telephony and vo_config files to contain details of the networks in India.
VoLTE has worked with many A10 roms, but VoWiFi worked for the first time with the A11 Canadian Open.
PS - Since I need an unrooted phone for Microsoft apps such as Outlook and Teams, I uninstall magisk after making these configuration changes.
