Cricket More plan and COVID-19 10GB 60day hotspot - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

I received a text from Cricket today that they added 10gb of hotspot for the next 60day to help get by COVID-19. I tried the hotspot on my Pixel 3 XL and it worked. I started a chat with Cricket to ask why my Pixel hotspot worked now and not any other day even though I have 15gd free hotspot on compatible phones. Below is the response,
"wireless devices are either single or dual APN (a back-end carrier setting that allows for software applications). Cricket Mobile Hotspot, because of the way it was developed, can only work on dual APN devices. Historically, not all Cricket devices are dual APN.
Certain single APN devices are compatible with Cricket Mobile Hotspot on certain retired rate plans, but do not allow for Mobile Hotspot on currently available rate plans."
Does that sound right?

I personally can't tell you that it sounds right or not to me because it didn't make sense to me when they tried to explain it. I got the tethering to work with MagiskHide Props Config and help from the forum before all this COVID-19 started and my 3 XL worked thankfully.

[Q] Tethering Question - Ports?

OK fellas. Here's a good one for you. I use a Motorola hand-held for work with Windows Mobile on it. I'm in sales, so I use tethering with my phones to send out my orders every day while I'm at work (aka on the go).
Wifi tethering worked EXCELLENT with my Atrix 4G, no matter the ROM. I had a tethering plan, so I didn't need to worry. I got rid of that in pursuit of a WP7 phone and got a HTC Surround. Needless to say I panicked when the ROM didn't even HAVE a tethering option. So, I flashed a custom one. Bam, Wifi tethering worked great.
Fast forward to now, I have a Lumia 900. Nothing has changed, I have the DataPro 5GB Tethering plan, the phone has tethering and it works with my Laptop.. BUT not with my handheld. For whatever reason, it gets hung up on "Creating Data Port" (on the handheld) and will not proceed. Does anyone have any idea why this may be happening? Does the Lumia block certain ports or something, or do I have to switch phones/wait for a custom ROM?
Thanks fellas,
Nick
Probably not related Lumia. It uses standard WP7 tethering (with the added account check) feature. What's different is that all LTE phones use a new APN called pta in order to connect with LTE (even if you are not in a LTE area). This new APN is known to have additional layer of network filtering on AT&T side. Not much you can do about that. Not sure if it is related to your specific problem. But you can try to switch to older Phone or wap.cingular APN and see what happens (you will loss LTE).

May give it a shot. For some odd reason, it worked today. A few nights ago I removed and re-added the tethering plan online to my account (even though the phone tethered fine with my laptop) and today for the hell of it, I tried it with my work handheld and it went through . We'll see how consistent it is. Thanks for the input/solution, though!

[Q] Tethering Bypass not working anymore

Hey everyone,
I have been a searching and searching for new ways to get my fully unlimited 4G mobile internet through HotSpot, and up until 6 months ago, the changing of APN setting in "Mobile Networks" from epc.tmobile.com (Regular) to fast.tmobile.com (LTE) had worked and adding dun to the authentication types, but in the last week the HotSpot Block screen popped up again and I am now forced to revert to using user-agents to use the unlimited mobile internet I paid highly for, through my phone's HotSpot, like I had to before. Is there someone who knows a new way to get around this, without rooting my phone or paying for an app on Google Play?!

The "APN" dun method is not working anymore for me either, I configured the settings correctly in the AP and got past the 5GB threshold but was only able to use my stock hotspot unlimited for one day up until now it has stopped working and reverted back to the upsell screen page with no fix has T-Mobile finally figured it out and cracked down or something? I don't want to root my phone! I want another method for none rooted users!!! Someone please help.

Editing APN to hide your tethering usage

This was easily done on Sprint with the note 8 and s8 with Quick short cut maker app and editing LATE APN settings by adding the value DUN. It would essentially allow you to by pass the 10 gig 4g limit on your hotspot plan by tricking the carrier into thinking your using the phone for normal usage. Is there a way to do this on Verizon? Quick short cut maker doesn't work on Verizon, when I inserted the Sim it must of locked the APN settings when I converted over from Sprint.
bump, this would be extremely useful for us who tether if anyone has an answer/idea. I've experimented with VPN and have been unsuccessful in circumventing throttle.
Any luck with this?

I am interested in this too. Although I am running a mxpe, I have tried several things including the net.tether.noprovisioning=true edit to build.prop, the global dun=0 through adb shell, VPN's, and FoxFi. Nothing has worked as of lately. FoxFi had been working up until about 2 months ago, but apparently Verizon changed something and that no longer works (according to the folks at PDA Net). The only other thing I can think of is changing APN settings. It appears I can easily change these in my mxpe, but does anyone know which APN is used for tethering and which is used for normal phone usage? Does Verizon even use different APN's for the purpose of tracking tethering usage?

Tethering on Cricket

I would like to tether my Pixel XL and am on Cricket wireless. I am not looking to hack or bypass the provisioning check. The pixel 2 xl is not listed as one of the compatible phones to hotspot with so I can not add tethering to my line, I have tried via the support app, the website and spending an hour on the phone with customer support. I was wondering if I stuck my sim in an iPhone that is on the list of supported phones and added tethering while the sim was in that phone if it would stick when I switched the sim back to my Pixel, if so would it stay through a billing cycle? Anyone have experience with trying this out or know of other non-root workarounds.

Wifi Tethering Not Working on SM-N975F with Cricket

Hopefully I'm not missing something obv. but I have a sm-975f variant that is rooted that I am using on Cricket. I'm trying to do wifi tethering using the hotspot feature, but devices are not getting internet. I have added them as approved devices once they connect, but still no internet. I do not have a tethering plan with Cricket, but coming from "vanilla" Android devices for years, I was just able to connect with no problems. Is there something I am missing? Should I use a third-party app?
You have to have the tehering package, my unlocked and rooted Moto Z2 Force never would connect either, also never found any third party apps to work either.

Actually just changed to the updated package with the tethering a few minutes ago. I'll give it some time before testing again to see if that works. Like I said, coming from AOSP and Pixel roms, never had to worry about actually having it included in my plan.
Hmmm..still no internet. I get an IP address but nothing. I was looking and seen that the Note 10+ wasnt on their "approved list" (if that really means anything.) I guess I can call their (existent) customer support to make sure my plan has updated.
I resolved the problem by doing some googleing. The default apn that gets loaded when you insert a cricket sim was missing a setting in the apn type field. It was missing "dun". Once I added that, I was able to get internet on tethered devices. I also moved my sim to slot two which may or may not have helped.
To add, my p2xl did not have the "dun" setting but still was able to tether other devices with no problems so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
