Hi, yes, it works (buggy as stock rom). In Havoc or Bliss you can use face unlock too.
Cheers

[GUIDE] Having a decent Android P GSI experience while Markus works.

So, this is how I PERSONALLY got a pretty decent experience on phhussons P GSI.
I am not responsible if something doesn't work or doesn't work the way you want.
Update: The PixelExperience build over on the Treble section works pretty well and eliminates the need for Overlays_Pr1.zip as well as Bitgapps. It's also including gapps (with SetupWizard as well as the pixel launcher). Same bugs as listed below.
Step 1: Trebleizing your phone
Download the latest trebleized Lineage OS ROM by SGCMarkus here and install it.
Make sure to read his guide to repartition your device carefully, otherwise this won't work.
Step 2: Prerequesites to have a nice time with Android P.
Before we wegin with the GSI stuff, you will have to copy the build.prop [or if you have the device fingerprint for your phone, just copy that] to a safe location.
Step 3: Installing the GSI
Download phhusson's latest Pie GSI from here
Unzip it and load it onto your phone's storage.
Proceed with wiping your /system, /data, /cache and Dalvik. Do not wipe /vendor (duh.)
Then install the image by tapping "Install image" button in the selection screen.
Step 4: Installing GAPPS
Download BitGapps from here. (I do **not** recommend using unofficial OpenGapps, as I run into several issues with them.)
[This version of GApps does not include any SetupWizard, which means you will have to download all your apps manually!]
Step 5: Fixing Device not Certified
While the notification doesn't pop up, it is indeed not certified and is (one of) the reason(s) why the phone gets so hot sometimes.
So what you need to do is download Magisk 16.7 (or later) as well as MagiskPropsHideConfig from here
as well as get any terminal app from the Play Store you like. [I personally like Material Terminal, as you can copy/paste in it]
After doing that, open a terminal window and type "props" (without quotation marks). Then select 1 and enter your device fingerprint (either from the build.prop we saved earlier or the fingerprint you saved somewhere)
Step 6: Makin' it nice.
So most of this besides maybe the Vibrator are purely optional, so you can go and enjoy some Pie if you wish.
Vibration:
- reboot to TWRP
- mount /vendor
- Install SGC's sGSI fix from here
- Install temp_vib_fix_joan_v2.zip from the attached files. Doesn't fix the dullness that occurs after some time.
DT2W:
- reboot to TWRP
- mount /system
- Install dt2w_on_gsi_joan.zip
Proper rounded corners and that new navbar[not required on PE P GSI]:
- Reboot to TWRP
- mount /vendor
- Install Overlays_PR1.zip from the attached files. (not mine, it's from erfanoabdi's Telegram group, will add proper credits if i manage to find the creator)
- Navigate to Settings -> System -> Gestures -> Swipe up to home
Additional System Accents (Yay! Colors!)
- Reboot to TWRP
- Install System_Accents_P.zip from the attached files. (not mine, it's from erfanoabdi's Telegram group, will add proper credits if i manage to find the creator)
Always-on Display (DT2W still works!)[Not required on PE P GSI]
According to phhusson, this does more than just enable AOD apparently, and it does something with the vibration, so installing this is on **your own risk** (not like it wasn't anyways)
-Reboot to TWRP
- Install P_AOD_FIX_-_by_ElHechicero.zip (not mine, credit goes to ElHechicero)
Getting Wellbeing [Not requried on PE GSI]:
-Download the Wellbeing.apk from ApkMirror
-Rename it to WellBeing.apk
-Move it into /system/priv-app/WellBeing/ (create the folder WellBeing)
-Reboot
Getting a nicer launcher with the appdrawer[PE P GSI uses the Pixel Launcher]:
-Download Nokias (HMDs) Launcher from ApkMirror
-Rename it to Quickstep.apk
-Replace /system/priv-app/Quickstep/Quickstep.apk with the Nokia launcher (which you renamed to Quickstep)
-Reboot
Issues:
- A lag when tapping on the "Default Apps" or the Bluetooth/NFC area in Settings
- Can get warmer when in playstore
- Vibration: Gets dull and sounds like static after a while. Hopefully SGCMarkus will be able to fix this or we'll be stuck with the dullness on P gsi's for now.
Not working:
-Hotspot
-NFC (?) [Seemed to work just fine on my device]
- Let me (or others, rather.) know.
Credits go to:

If you don't depend on Hotspot (and maybe NFC) and don't mind the occasional dullness, then yes. It is very daily driver capable. I'm using it.

Any launcher is. Just the new Recents Appdrawer will only work with certain devices. As of now those are working: AOSP Quickstep, Nokia Quickstep(Also called Android One launcher), The Pixel launcher (but doesn't work by installing?? [works on the PE P GSI tho]) and sometime in the future Lawnchair V2.

[PATCHES] For getting the best out of treble roms. [Notch, Sound and NFC fixed]

Hello everybody!
This patch is for getting the notch working on treble roms.
- Tested on PHH Treble (9.0)
Manual:
Mount system and vendor in TWRP
adb push treble-overlay-xiaomi-mi8.apk /vendor/overlay/treble-overlay-xiaomi-mi8.apk
adb push treble-overlay-xiaomi-mi8.apk /system/overlay/treble-overlay-xiaomi-mi8.apk
Download: treble-overlay-xiaomi-mi8.apk
To fix the crappy sound:
- Reboot into TWRP
- Mount vendor
- Use file manager to remove the whole soundfx direcory (/vendor/lib64/soundfx)
To fix NFC:
- Download the zip (over here)
- Reboot into TWRP
- Mount vendor
- Flash the zip
Current bugs on phh-treble (9.0) :
- Fingerprintscanner pretend to be an enter / select key.
- Camera is not yet the quallity of the stock MIUI
- Hotspot is not working (Bluetooth thering does work)
PS:
If you find something to patch, let me now!
Also if you got a patch, be nice to share it

All treble roms will work on Mi 8, because it's launched with Android 8.0 or higher.
The Mi 8 is an A-Only version, so you have the flash the A-only image
It's only possible some features wont work, like wifi, camera and fingerprint scanner.
I use the PHH Treble (9.0) rom and I'm really satisfied
Still waiting on my Mi 8 to arrive, but I'm glad you figured out how to implement the notch! mind sharing an image of what the notifications look like now? does it have the overflow dot when the notifications exceed the room?
Thank you, this works great

EDIT:
I've got enough notifications to make a screen of it!
Thanks, appreciate it. looks good, only problem is now that the clock is on the left there is only room for 2 notifications it seams. Wonder if there is any way to move the clock back to the right to make more room?

Havoc OS 1.0 works extremely well and I am very impressed with it. It also has a vast amount of Android P UI features already built in which is impressive for an 8.1 rom.
The only issue I have had, which I am monitoring, is that some apps randomly crash. A reboot appears to fix this issue.

I've been using it. it seems the fingerprint option is missing; however, everything is smooth. Just take note of the following:
1. Wipe cache, system, vendor, and format data (reboot to recovery)
2. Flash latest firmware
3. Flash the rom from link above
4. Flash lag fix (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1C-weA-1yUW2vgU80wDI-qUcFYxR1HjN7/view?usp=sharing)
5. Flash adaptive brightness fix (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PudiZtrSpmBIDcmBWLStAswJeGPnRtK1/view?usp=sharing)
(Optional) Flash any 4.9 kernel you like. The stock kernel is pretty fine though, you may update it with latest DA beta or VIMB stable release (11-08)
6. Flash Magisk
7. Reboot. It may show "Android internal error.." Just tap ok and ignore.
Credits to https://t.me/redmi5plusofficial and @souplove at telegram for answering my queries.
PS
1. Change the default wallpaper. The animated one results to laggy launcher transitions.
2. In Gcam, set JPEG quality to 100% for front cam portrait shots. (Gcam is pre-installed)
Bugs: Volte, hotspot, fingerprint, cast (maybe)

Excellent battery backup

I've been using it. it seems the fingerprint option is missing; however, everything is smooth. Just take note of the following:
1. Wipe cache, system, vendor, and format data (reboot to recovery)
2. Flash latest firmware
3. Flash the rom from link above
4. Flash lag fix (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1C-weA-1yUW2vgU80wDI-qUcFYxR1HjN7/view?usp=sharing)
5. Flash adaptive brightness fix (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PudiZtrSpmBIDcmBWLStAswJeGPnRtK1/view?usp=sharing)
(Optional) Flash any 4.9 kernel you like. The stock kernel is pretty fine though, you may update it with latest DA beta or VIMB stable release (11-08)
6. Flash Magisk
7. Reboot. It may show "Android internal error.." Just tap ok and ignore.

PS
1. Change the default wallpaper. The animated one results to laggy launcher transitions.
2. In Gcam, set JPEG quality to 100% for front cam portrait shots. (Gcam is pre-installed)
Bugs: Volte, hotspot, fingerprint, cast (maybe)

PD: some games do not work correctly, besides that Angle also does not work correctly, although this ROM is very smooth :'O

Riview experience using gsi rom
I got crDroid gsi installed, random app closures, full screen gestures work, but there is a empty space on bottom of screen after the navigation bar. changing the brightness does not work very well. 120hz works.
Magisk included. Gapps flashed with magisk (no twrp). Some seroius audio errors.
Back to miui.
I installed the GSI crDroid on the Mi Pad 5 Pro following OPs instructions. First time using a GSI rom and have only had this one installed for a couple of hours. Here's what has not/worked for me.
Working
- Fingerprint scanner
- Front/back cameras
- Wifi and bluetooth
- Touchscreen
- Magisk/GApps
- crDroid and other non-Phh settings
Kind of Working
- Sound. I get audio when I go to YouTube in the browser. System audio (notifications, touch sounds, etc.) don't seem to be working.
Not Working
- Phh Treble settings. Changing them caused bootloops that required going into recovery wiping data and rebooting the system
- Xiaomi keyboard cover doesn't work
- Xiaomi smart pen doesn't work. It can be paired via bluetooth, but but touches aren't registered on the screen
Mileage vary a lot with different GSI, best compatibility usually with phh gsi's
Only bug i found is tap to wake, all other seems ok
Android 12 ab-vndklite phh GSI was released recently, has anyone tried it out yet? I can't do it on my own since my pad 5 hasn't arrived yet.
Please do a review about this Gsi in YouTube
Anyone tried another option? Any GSI working 100%?
I need to replace MIUI asap! Google for Work is VERY bugged

Still on PHH gsi, tap to wake broken, but otherwise all ok.
Getting 1h screen on / 10% battery, similar to stock
