5g only works on Sim 2, SM-G9880 - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

Hello, I have a strange issue with my device SM-G9880. I could not get 5g to work on sim1. It works only on sim2 slot. The option is available on sim 1 but does not connect to 5g. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Kuwait, ooredoo. Im not sure if its relevant since it works on sim 2 already. But it is strange honestly.

Can confirm the same here with the sm-g9880 Hong Kong model. I have a Telstra Aussie Sim that supports band 78 5g. Will only work in second Sim tray. Very strange. I'm guessing this is some kind of bug?

Just to let people know though. Once on the Hong Kong CSC , it doesn't support band 28 aggregation so won't do 4g plus . Another strange thing considering band 28 (700) works by itself.

Here are the bands support as confirmed by samsung Hong Kong

It supports band 28 (700) but it doesn't pair with other bands for 4g plus like it normally should. Specifically band 1 and band 3 - they normally both pair with band 700 but they haven't been on this firmware.

Any update my 5g not working I only have 4g+ I have sm-g9880 and I. Using ooredoo kuwait

Im having this issue after the last update I dont know what samsung have. But i discoverd a fix if you want 5G u have
To disable SIM 1 (Remove the sim or turn it off from the setting ) and use SIM 2 only then 5G will be back

were you able to get this to work? I want to order a G9860 Taiwan or hk model but won't if I can't use an sd card! Whatsapp and camera pics would rinse that internal storage straight away!

Try changing CSC to 'TGY' or 'BRI'?

Hey there,
today I tried using 5g in Germany (vodafone) on my g9880 with tgy csc. It worked only in sim2. Does anyone know when it will probably be fixed or know some kind of workaround?
Thanks in advance !

so 5G on sim 1 was working before the update and they just broke it? I was just wondering if it ever worked on sim 1. If it did before,i guess there is hope they will fix it in the future.

Hi. Is this still an issue? I've just ordered a s20+ 5g (snapdragon).

[Q] Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML MODEL ASUS_ZOOAD 3g

I need help, i want to buy a zenfone 2 from alegrecompra, but i dont know if the version Z00AD support 3G wcdma, i live in latin america.
Does anyone has bought this version?
I made a similar question but nobody answered.
I understand that if your buying it from a Chinese based site you will get the CN version.
CN version definitely lacks many LTE bands support compared to TW or WW version, but apparently it supports the same WCDMA bands as the others, and, on top of that, it also supports TD-CDMA bands only useful in China, but never got any confitmation first hand, only real way to tell for sure would be if someone with that CN version confirms they get WCDMA coverage with a provider using the same bands as your company...
It would be wiser to get the TW version instead but its harder to find an online store selling it apart from eBay sellers and also it should be a bit more expensive I guess...

H+ 3G WCDMA 2100 on CN version working confirmed. Haven't tested the other bands, but if 2100 is working the other ones should be too.
Thanks! I think its safe to assume then that WCDMA support is same across all regional versions...
Work here in Mauritius but not on all operator. One operator it show the H but download is 2G

I suggest you buy the Zenfone 2 that you mentioned in your post. That is an America Version that can be used in Latin America as well.
IMHO, do not buy the China or Taiwan Variants as those were specifically for Asian Continent.
Good Luck.

The only Freq/band that the Z00AD (WW) doesn't support that the US version supports is 700 MHz/Band 17 -- there are some South/Central American providers that use that frequency, but not many.

Global ROM in China?

Hi guys, I would like to buy the S20 Ultra version in China from Samsung Store, to get the Snapdragon, but will be the Chinese ROM on it. Do you know if is possible to request to Samsung to have the Global ROM version? Or to install it at the moment of the purchase? Otherwise how can I solve this problem? Will be easy to do it by myself? Since is a expensive smartphone I don't want make any mistake..

Likely not. Hong Kong should get the SnapDragon. The Global model should be Exynos. Can't interchange the ROMs for it. Needs to be confirmed, but likely The snap dragon will behave better RF and battery wise. Maybe not a huge difference as with some older chipsets, but something to keep in mind. While Hong Kong may not get the OTA updates as frequently, you get a dual sim SnapDragon model.
hope this helps.

The Ultra international version is likely SM-G988F/DS, where the SnapDragon Hong Kong/Taipei version could be SM-G9880/DS.

The chinese versions typically have wireless bands that aren't supported in the US so I wouldn't use that. However, the Korean Version *will* use the snapdragons this year, and should be completely unlocked. Those should be fully compatible. I bought a Korean Note 8 because that was the only one which came in 256gb and the rare blue color and I've had no issues. It was Exynos, though. I'm hoping a lot of people in the developer community will buy this unlocked snapdragon version but I may not be so lucky. I might be forced to purchase the european "global" version.
Perfect!! Thanks, I will buy it in South Korea. Unfortunately they did it in only 2 colours this time...

Not sure which spec sheet you have seen. The SM-G9880 from Hong Kong should cover all the North American bands. AWS may be missing, I see it on some lists and not on others. I would be surprised if the Korean N version is better than a global F or Hong Kong’s 9880 version. I expect the 9880 to be similar to the U version but in dual sim format.

Yeah, I could be mistaken. My hope is just that with the Korean version also using snapdragon this year, people will be more open to buying that version over the International F. Development should be much easier and last longer with a snapdragon.

I hear you. I wish the Exynos was better, we’ll see what this new SoC will do, but the biggest hurdle as I understand it, it’s licensing and regulatory. I’m sure SAMSUNG would prefer to make a single version for the globe and just apply CSCs for customizing. To me, carrier and market demands are crazy. Single va dual sim, price, customizations, band support and features. If you put dual sim for everyone, a region will ask for a cheaper single sim. There’s no way around it, it’s insane.

Here’s the official band list from the Samsung China e-store. The 5G bands listed are more limited than what the Techwalls site says for GM-9880 (doesn’t support the US 5G bands listed there). The 5G bands listed are the same as the China Note 10+ 5G version, so it might be right. I was hoping it supported all the same US model 5G bands, but not sure now. If anyone has an actual G9880, sharing the real bands via an app would be great.

I think one of these apps will give you information of which 5G bands you are connected to. I thought there was an app where u could select different bands and force it, but maybe not or it has to be done manually. It looks like you are on T-mobile, so maybe you could try different areas/towers and different bands to test. On the Play store, there are also a few other 5G apps with maps of the different towers that can help you get close to test the high or low 5G bands. Thanks for your contribution. I’m really curious if both the high bands and low bands for T-mobile are supported on the 9880.

As for the moment on my 9880, i don't have 5G because "apparently" HongKong and Taiwan don't have 5G yet, thus it will be coming in a future firmware update. I tried to flash via ODIN the HK firmware but i got the BRI (Taiwan) CSC back again...

But so check this, I have my 9880 and my girls 9810, both rooted unlocked etc.
She's on ATT i'm on T-MO
Neither of us are getting carrier aggregation. a S8 on t-mo got 102mbps and i got 34mbps in the same spot.

Do you want the following information?
I live in Taiwan, the phone model is SM-G9800
Taiwan ’s current telecom operators have not yet provided 5G services
If you need to provide other information, I will try my best to assist you
same issue here... got TGY on my 9800, i live in Switzerland and should get 5g or even 5g+ but nothing... i guess it's a frequency issue.
Now my question is : can we change the frequencies of the 5g on the phone?
Would anyone know if the sm-g9880 snapdragon model the 256gb 5g would work in Australia ? I think we use band 78? I can't find any details anywhere.

How are you able to get that? What app is that ?
My model is the sm-g9880 Taiwan firmware.
I tried to download the hongkong firmware but it didn't change the CSC for some reason. I did a full reset.
I thought maybe it's the firmware that's not approved for 5g yet because apparently Taiwan hasn't activated 5g yet.

Its called Quick Shortcut maker.
My G9880 was originally csc BRI but I have changed the csc to TGY using Samkey as 5G hasn't been activated on the BRI model yet but was activated on the last update for TGY.

Enable carrier aggregation

Hi ,
Is there anyway to force carrier aggregation on the s20 ultra. I currently own the Samsung s20 ultra sm-g9880 snapdragon (Taiwan version , CSC BRI) I changed the CSC to Hong Kong (TGY) to enable 5g , as the Hong Kong firmware has it enabled (Taiwan hasn't enabled it yet , only 4g and they don't have 5g in that country till end of year) but I noticed on the Hong Kong firmware and CSC there's less carrier aggregation , so specifically for me band 28 (700) doesn't pair with other bands like it did on the Taiwan firmware, so it's mostly 4g not 4g+ on the Hong Kong CSC and much slower speeds. It's weird because band 28 is supported by Hong Kong firmware but only uses that band by itself not with other bands for faster speeds. This is particularly important for me in Australia.
Anyway to force this to happen without rooting the thing or should I just save myself the trouble , revert back to Taiwan CSC where 4g pairs and works perfectly just no 5g ?

Personally think that 5G is just increasing power consumption, and 4G bandwidth is enough to meet today's network usage

I think you're right. I'm actually getting better speeds on 4g, and I think I'll turn off 5g, and put the battery savings towards 120hz! Lol. 120 is required for me now, it just looks too good.

S20 FE 5g - difference between country versions

Hi, i'm about to buy online an S20FE 5g (preferably an 8GB), and i was wondering about the differences between different versions; i don't know what should i buy to use in Europe.
I could not find a comprehensive list, so i thought i could just post what i know; the more info you can share, the most complete the list will be.
SM-G781B (International)
SM-G781U (USA)
operator locked, should not buy for Europe
SM-G781U1 (USA Unlocked)
not a real dual sim (as stated here)
SM-G781W (Canada)
SM-G7810 (China, Hong Kong)
for this version there's a 8/128 model (is it good to use in Europe? they seems to come at a cheap price)
SM-G781N (Korea)
SM-G781V (Verizon)
Also, the /DS stands for "dual-sim hybrid tray" i suppose, based on this evidence
Based on this, frequencies support should be the same for models SM-G781B (International), SM-G781N (Korea), SM-G781U (USA), SM-G781V (Verizon):
GSM frequencies
850 900 1800 1900
Standard UMTS
850 900 1900 2100
Standard LTE
FDD LTE: 2600, 2100, 1900, 1800, 1700, 900, 850, 800, 700
TDD LTE: 2600, 2500, 2300, 1900
Standard 5G
FDD 5G: 1900, 1700, 850, 600
TDD 5G: 2500
The one listed on Bestbuy is SM-G781UZBMXAA. Can I use that outside of US, in Asia perhaps?
I got SM-G7810 , I am from Poland and it works just fine. Bought it from my local phone store with their warranty. Got it much cheaper. Works ok, no problems.
Just waiting for android 11, looks like HK is less important to Korean company then Europe

Got the same phone delivered since a day in the Netherlands. Works fine, every language possible to choose, works fine on the networks etc.
I'm just trying to find a way to flash a ROM with another CSC to try to enable THL ( Thailand CSC) as to make phone-recording possible. Seems not easy to get rid of the Hong Kong CSC.
Even with some 'CSC change tricks' I don't get any further than to choose for TGY as the only one in the list.

Question Help with Fold 3 5g problem.

Hi guys i've searched all over the net for a solution and i am starting to think that there is none.
I've bought a Samsung Fold3 5g SM-F926U1 and i think it is an US model. I live in Romania and i can't get 5g signal, only LTE. Tried everything that is normal, reset settings, update internet profile, switched on and off, selected 5G auto and/or GLOBAL.
Nothing works. Do you have any solution? Flash a different rom on it or something?
The phone is single sim, in Romania they sell the dual sim version
Thank you
The F926U supports these 5G bands:
SA/NSA/Sub6/mmWave (2, 5, 25, 41, 66, 71, 260, 261)
What 5G bands does your provider use?

Thanks for the tip. I will probably do the same if there is no other way.
it is possible the software installed on it is not playing nice with the carrier in your region.
for example. In the US, each carrier decides which version of SW update to release to their customer, but if a user brings their own device that was with another carrier hence has a different software version than what is being used for the new carrier... the phone tends to have issues or not be able to update and such.
Other possibility is that the region you are in doesn't use the band that the phone supports (but this might be less likely in my opinion, but I'm no professional nor do I have experience with overseas inter-usability so I may be wrong).
