Best Battery Life - OnePlus 8 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Just wanted to see how everyone was doing on battery life and what screen settings you found give you the best performance while still maintaining good battery life?

60Hz - FHD+ = 07 hours SoT with heavy usage
Edit : I never fully charge the battery (80-90% max) and i charge it once it's around 20%
In conclusion it's a good sot

I've got mine set to QHD+ and 120hz I get about 5 hours SOT on about 85-90% brightness. Not worried about it right now because I'm home and a quick charge on the wireless charger will fill it back up pretty quick. I'll try these settings once when can actually leave home again and see if it can comfortably make it through the day. If not I'll back down the resolution in favor of brightness and the higher refresh rate.

Now we just need custom roms to start rolling out.

My latest battery stats ,this has all been on 4G and not the strongest 4g signal by any means ,no WiFi .I have phone network set to 4g/3g only as I don't have 5g.Screen is set to QHD 120hz

Have been getting about 6-7 hours over the last couple of days. Have to say since installing lawn chair it's been worse compared to the stock launcher, I only really need to add 7 icons on the bottom and not 5, besides that I'd switch back to stock.
Pretty sure I'll get even better battery life after that.

Think I'm doing pretty well for running YouTube in background play for a bit, VLC for music... some web browsing, a couple phone calls.
I didn't splurge on this phone to run it lightly... so QHD 120hz at about 80% brightness. Not sure if it matters, but I use EasyEyes pro for screen filter when possible. Running the Nuanced Dark preset theme, and substratum.
Display Settings:
Adaptive Brightness = On
Comfort tone = On
Vibrant Color effect pro = On
Motion Graphics Smoothing = On
Display Settings > Advanced > Screen Calibration = Advanced > AMOLED Wide Gamut
Naptime + Greenify are a must, imo.
I'm running AdGuard with Local Proxy tunneling through NordVPN, along with Bromite Systemless Webview magisk module. Practically 0 ads system wide...I'm sure it helps.
Viper4Arise on my Bluetooth, which basically runs all day long
I also debloated the ROM to the uttermost possible using xXx NoLimits 11.0, not to mention Universal GMS Doze. I'll attach my profile for it.
The only bug I've noticed is I'm unable to install Chrome from playstore for some reason. Chrome beta worked ..

All the above is overkill though, because I don't go anywhere without this thing. Lol

Constant monitoring and country productive measures which actually cost more battery then they save.
Don't take our word for it, try yourself.
Personally I've found lawn chair has been chewing away at the battery more then the stock launcher. Gutted

I agree, 5 is fugly. I'm more inclined to go the minimalist route though before getting trapped in customizing for hours... Trying "Before" Launcher now... 12 apps on homescreen without clutter. Lol. Super snappy on this phone, gotta be great for battery life.. kind of like Evie Launcher

7 his 19 minutes with 31 left. I think I can break 10 hours easily
Don't think I'm going to beat my OnePlus 5 records of 14 hours 45 minutes.

One of the better SOT phones I've owned since coming from smaller 4.5 inch screens. I easily get 4 hours on a long day (16 -18 hours off the charger). I watched 2.5 hour movie the other day and did some more stuff. In 8 hours, I had over 5 hours of SOT with 47% battery left.

I don't like gsam because it doesn't read the SOT from the system. It records it's own stats.
GSam battery monitor allows you to see the stock android battery stats and screen on time from there by going to the menu on the bottom right, clicking more and then Battery Use - Built In. If there is an easier way to get to stock android battery stats, I'd love to know.

Nothing special, really? It's basically stock, I just disabled some stock apps: Browser, calendar, stock email, Gmail, Hangouts, and stock messaging. Everything else is left alone.... I even installed the actual Facebook app (aka: battery eater) for the first time in a few years, since my battery can keep up now.

No screen on time. I am in an area where I get no service and was using WiFi, so today I turned on Airplane mode and then WiFi and it seems to work a lot better. though I still need to investigate is battery drain is bad when using the phone in normal service area.

This is the best phone I've owned in terms of battery life. With nova launcher and using nova's battery widget I can see my SOT. I average 5:30 which is alot for me. I have gotten as much as 6:40! This is all usually over 12-28 hrs. The phone is just phenomenal, just wish the camera was better.

I would believe it. I got about 5 hours in my last run. What I think ate up about 20% was listening to music through the speakers.. The phone drained faster than normal Witt the speakers on at max volume.. Which makes sense and is 5000% tolerable because how amazing they sound.
Furthermore, if I could get some stronger cell phone signal, that would help with screen on time too. I never have no signal, but I never see over two bars of signal either.
Sorry about double post.. Forgot to include second one..
Ok, I thought this was a battery beast but I think I was wrong. I don't expect any phone's battery indicator to be totally accurate but I've noticed that if I top the A7 up a little the battery doesn't drain *at all* for a long time. I've been letting it go down to 30% then topping it up to 40% where it stays without moving even while I'm streaming music and surfing for half an hour. Fishy.
I thought that as I was on about 3:30 sot at 40% I'd let it go down further to see if it would reach 5 hours. Three charging cycles in a row the phone has hit 19% and then reported that it's empty and shut down.
EU model build B03.

Battery life not very impressive

How is the batter life for you guys? . I seem to be losing 60% in 6 hours with 30 mins Google navigation and some texting and browsing.

This is what I've been getting for battery life on my Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 7. I've cut the bloat apps I don't want, almost all of my data connection was on wifi, web browsing, sending and checking emails, no gaming, had to turn it off twice (applying and reapplying a screen protector), used Bluetooth once for about an hour listening to music in the car, made a few calls and received a few calls. I turned battery saver on right around 85% battery life from 100%. The battery saver was custom and I left the screen resolution at 2k just only enabled limit performance and max brightness to 90%. Just over 9 hrs screen on time works for me.
Yeah mine hasn't been great. Think I'm gonna run it until Wednesday and if it's still not good I'm returning it and going back to my s7e in the meantime.
Mine has been doing very well, better than my note 4 did by a good percentage. The other day I tried to use Google maps for navigation but I was apparently in a dead area. Later that night I was checking battery stats and I saw that maps used 11% for a matter of minutes while the next non-system app was like 3%. There might be something wrong with the app on note 7 then maybe.
Mine has been really good. Usually when I leave work I'm at around 40% (on my S6 edge). Today I'm at 79% (on the Note 7).
So far, my best has been down to 14% in almost 16 hours, with about 5 hours of SoT.

Seriously, if you are getting 9 hours of screen on time, you have to have disabled so much of the functionality of the phone that I don't know why you would buy a Note. With every reviewer and average person getting 4.5-5.5 hours SOT, it just seems ridiculous..
I think it's satisfactory.
I find myself actually using it a lot more than the S7E AND the battery is better to boot.
Personally, if I couldn't use the Note 7 any more, I'd go back to using my iphone 6S+ before I'd use the S7E...
Or the Note 5 / 6S+.
From ergonomics, the S7E is just awful. It reminds me of using a Windows 8 PC for the first time! Mainly because of the horrible, horrible touch sensitivity of the screen and edge.
Perhaps the battery life is better because I've never charged wirelessly? I've heard that if you charge with the cord your battery life, particularly idle, is far better. I don't mind plugging in. USB-C connector is long overdue. No more fumbling in the dark trying to plug it in, scratching the bottom around the connector in the process!
The built in battery monitor is bad. I ran antutu benchmark once and it tonight it took up the equivalent of my whole battery. 5 minutes of app time and only 3% in real life. I have done a couple of full battery cycles to just make sure the software learns the top and bottom ends of my battery. Slowly figuring out what is killing battery and what not. If I have extra drain it's because something is glitching. I have been unplugged since 1 am last night. Still at 10% with almost 5 hours of screen on time.

I don't feel I disabled much of the phone, all I did was disable approximately 12 apps that I don't and or won't use, and at around 85% battery left, I turned on a custom mid power saving feature and used the phone a good amount over a 34+ hour span. This whole setup took me less than 15 minutes, so I'm not sure why you seem to have an issue with my choice in phone. It's not like I went in, rooted the thing and froze an incredible amount of apps, slapped in a custom kernel and messed with voltage and loaded some slim lightweight custom ROM. I simply used power saver and disabled some apps. This took no effort at all, simply sharing what I'd been getting, as others didn't seem to get as much out of their battery.
I got a note because I can pull serious hours SOT, multi task like a boss and enjoy multimedia on this gorgeous screen. I've had Notes since the Note 2.

I agree with the disappointing battery life. I had a galaxy 7 active and after a full day of work doing the same thing I had about 75% after my day ended ,with my note 7 I had about mid 60%. Keep in mind I dont use my phone except a little before work and on my breaks.i also turn my Data off when I'm not using my phone and yes all my bloatware is shut off. If we had root I'm sure I would be happy since I get a lot more out of my battery because of my root setup .

Hi,
My device isn't rooted and this is what I do to get the most out of the battery...
1. I try to never allow the battery to get hot in order to prolong its excellent performance. If you're charging your phone, don't run heavy draining apps as this will greatly increase the battery's temperature. When charging my phone, I usually set stamina mode to always on and if I'm not expecting important phone calls I sometimes activate airplane mode. If you want to make and receive calls just turn off Bluetooth, wife, data and GPS while the phone is plugged in to keep the battery temperature down.
2. I used to love the Juice Defender app which was able to automatically turn off Wife/Data whenever the screen is off but sadly it hasn't been updated in so many years. Now I just manually turn off WiFi and Data whenever the phone is not in use.
3. If you're watching an offline film or reading a book, turn off your WiFi and Data. Again, if you're not looking to make calls activate Airplane Mode as this tends to lessen the battery drain especially when watching 4k movies.
4. Delete any apps that you don't use. Especially the power hungry apps!
5. I only tend to set brightness to the lowest setting when I'm in a very dark room. There's no point in always having it so low in broad daylight like a disorientated cave-dweller.
6. When you go to bed, activate stamina mode (if you want to save more juice then also activate Airplane Mode) and just make sure that it won't affect your alarm in the morning. ?
That's pretty much it for me I guess. Rooting voids the warranty and that's not something I want to do so I'm happy with my current usage and performance.
Hope this helps!

6. When you go to bed, activate stamina mode (if you want to save more juice then also activate Airplane Mode) and just make sure that it won't affect your alarm in the morning.
That's pretty much it for me I guess. Rooting voids the warranty and that's not something I want to do so I'm happy with my current usage and performance.
Hope this helps!

You can also try to turn off the phone, this will bring excellent battery life :cyclops:
Just kidding :silly:
By the way, root seems to improve a lot the phone, but I have Amazon warranty and would be a shame to lose it for rooting the phone

Hahahahaahahhaha
Yes that's one of the reasons why I'm not too keen on rooting. Rooting the device will also cause some issues that currently have no fix available so I'm good for now.
I can capture excellent stills and beautiful 4k footage. I get around 9-10 hours of screen on time with moderate to heavy use. Everything works as it should so I'm very happy with that.
3.5 hrs loosing 40%
I think for normal daily usage xzp got between 7-8 hrs
The seco d day reached [email protected]% of battery
Well, by my own experience, going out to work at 7:00, getting home at about 18:30 (plus commuting, as I was doing it in the bus too), I was reading an EPUB the whole day (Moon Reader+), black background with white text, the app prevents the screen from turning off, and I hardly had any reason besides lunch break to turn it off, I noticed I had forgotten the cable at the end of lunch break and took out brightness to about 35%, enough to be readable for me, it was on auto until them, no stamina mode either.
I got home with about 40% of battery left. I was quite surprised with my results.
Can get more than 20 hrs of SOT now
Look @The screenshoti taked after long day
5.5 hrs of SOT and 47% battery remaning
I get an average of 6 1/2 hours SOT with heavy gaming and brightness set to around 30%
Otherwise 2-3 days standby with medium to little use. I am impressed.
Ps. When gaming, is the screen running in 1080P or 4k?? How can we tell?

Thanks for clearing that. This means that we only get 4k when viewing 4k movies? However, by default we are getting 1080p which includes gaming.
It would be nice if we could run games in 4k. Why have a 4k screen which is only running 1080P?
Same as buying a 4k TV/Monitor and gaming at 1080P. :crying:
At least we should have an option to change resolution like a PC when gaming, would make sense.Even gaming at 1440P would look amazing. Some games have visible jagged edges which would be eliminated if running at resolutions higher than 1080P...

hey could you please us all how much you paid for the PC that lets enjoy 4k gaming? and how much room it takes.
I'm not trying to underestimate the power of Snapdragon 835, but you surely don't understand that even GTX 1080 doesn't play all the games flawlessly in 4K

Then you must not heard of GTX 1080 TI?? 30% better performance than the standard GTX 1080. I am able to play any game fully maxed, ultra settings at 4k with an average of 80-100 fps thank you very much...

Question Battery Life

I'm really interested in the battery life of this F3 with his 4520mah.
As I've seen some early reviews on YT they come to the conclusion that SOT rounds about 7h...
Ofc the 120Hz drains a lot but compared to my F2 Pro with 4700mah (60Hz), I can easily get 14h SOT on average use.
Point is that I'm rather disappointed by the SOT with this 4520mah battery even on 120Hz. I would have expected ~10h on 120Hz with average usage.
Would like to know your opinion on this.
I don't think the panel supports variable/adaptive refresh rate.
Perhaps we'll just have to wait and see if the panel can do 90hz with a mod.

Panel doesn't support variable for now but can be done on custom kernel/mods. Afaik no major problem on that.
But a ~7h SOT with a running 120Hz on normal use and a 4520mah battery is a fairly bad result if you ask me.
Lowering refresh rate to 90 and even 60 compromises the real value of this 120Hz screen which is one of the main reason why I would buy this well designed phone...
For me 6/7 hours of screen with 120 hz screen frequency are excellent.
But I doubt that you can do those hours of screen at that frequency. Or am I wrong?

That is so much better than I expected. I wonder how far we can stretch the screen on time by removing all the bloatware or installing a custom ROM.
How much can we expect the battery to degrade over time? If it's 9,5 hours now, can we expect it to be ~7 after 2 years of use?

Have bought mine since a couple of days (2 weeks waiting time) and intend to make the Offical crDroid for it and as expected this will improve drains too, especially idle which is worse on stock. Some YT vid mentioned a drop of 10% overnight where we can easily obtain ~0.3%/h idle drain.

Yea I'm maintainer for F2 Pro, MI9 and axon7 but when F3 is passing the test (can resend within 30 days) and feels smooth to use I sure will be setting things up to get custom rom running.
We'll see how things evolve.

The battery life really is amazing as shown in the linked video.
However most tech youtubers get ~7h for some reason.

Hopefully it helps with battery life, heat and ultimately minimizes screen dimming.

Sadly I have mine since 3 days ago and the battery drains very quickly. Completely debloated through adb, but the problem persists. In idle, I lost almost 20% of the total charge

Same. Rather disappointing...
On 120Hz I had a 15% SOT drain and this morning had lost 20% overnight (~2.5% idle)
In comparison : my F2 Pro on latest stock rom from a user shows 7.8% SOT drain and about 0.33% idle... with a 4700mah battery.
So do the math. Even on stock the idle is way too high.
Going to test 60Hz for some time to check SOT as well.
Btw, sound is amazing. As screen brightness is (better then F2 Pro). Nice blazing fast fp scanner and cool design as well ofc. Haptic is a little weak tbh but doable.
EDIT : did some test this morning on 60 and 120Hz and surprisingly the loss was 5% on 60 and 7% on 120. Tested 1 hour playing around... so fairly ok.
@raystef66 i hope you will do some magic to the device
I heard the haptics on the F3 are near flagship quliaty from most YouTube reviewers.

Haptic feels nice although it's a but faint. But not a big deal for me anyway.
Btw, did some test this morning on 60 and 120 Hz with YT playing in the background and actually the results are better then I thought : lost 5% on 60Hz and 7% on 120Hz
So seems ok.
EDIT: measured idle overnight and now had only 0.2%/h drop overnight ! Also today +-6%/h SOT
Also having a heavy drain on idle sometimes like 20~30% overnight, not sure what triggers it, did a reset and the drain was fixed temporally, on next charge the drain started again, another reset fixed it. Let's see if settles down or maybe a firmware alleviates it.
That bothers me the most is that doesnt show on battery statistics, it just drains til i reset the device.

Question S21 fe battery life

Hi all, I've just bought a refurbished s21 fe and was a bit surprised to see that it uses about 1% of battery every 4 - 5 minutes with the screen on. So the battery only lasts about 8 1/2 hours of mixed use screen time.
I wanted to ask if this was normal for this phone or do I have a poor battery? AccuBattery says that battery health is 95%
If it's running warm or hot it's not the battery that's the issue... yet.
Find the power hogs; either eliminate them or tone them down. Keep display brightness at 50% or lower.
Should have said it's a sd888 version and not using 5g
Phone doesn't get very warm

What the actual current drain?
If it's constantly drawing 400-500+ milliamps at idle it going to suck the battery down fast.
Currently averaging 295mA/h but battery has just been charged. I'll post again once battery is drained.

That's reasonable. If the battery has gotten to 80% of it's original capacity it's reached the end of its usable service life and should be replaced.
It's not a big deal... unless you don't replace it and it fails which can damage or destroy the device. Any battery swelling is a failure.
In a heavily used device the battery will last 1-3 years with 2 years being the average.
Thanks. Accubattery app says that battery capacity is 95% so it should have plenty of life in it yet, if that figure is to be believed.
Just checked today's figures. it's using just under 500 mAh with screen on and 85 mAh with screen off. This thing is seriously power hungry.

85 mAh is very excessive if AOD is set to tap on.
Google backup and cloud apps are prime suspects.
My apologies, I think I read it wrong. Just checked and it now says 120 mAh used in 5h screen off, so just 24mA per hour. The app reports a bit strangely.

That's a good result if cell and data services a on.
So it's somethings that are running with the display on that are chewing into the SOT.

What's the actual usage for SOT and for screen off? Accubattery history is very useful to monitor gross usage and establish a baseline.
Example, it's getting about 11%@hr SOT now. That's normal for this N10+ with a battery that's reached the end of its service life (approx 3200mAh). With a new battery those stats would be about 6-8% instead if using mostly Brave browser over 3 hour, 13 minute period.

What do you mean the actual usage of for ? Can you explain more?
While you see the screenshot you see a normal battery life ?
Start by turning off Global power management, it never worked right. Then go after the power hogs on an individual, case by case basis.
Set power to Optimized and try these power management settings:
Now go power hog hunting...
Uninstall the trashware. Stoiximan and all social media, sales apps. They are using a lot of resources. Login to them usingy a secure browser like Brave instead.
Google play Services and its dependencies Playstore, Gmail and Backup Transport can suck a lot of battery even when the phone is sleeping.
I normally temporarily disable Google play Services unless I need to use Gmail. I don't use Google (except gmail) or Samsung cloud anything so all cloud system apps are disabled.
Google Framework and Quick Search box are always disabled. The parasite Bixby never runs, always disabled.
A logging firewall can show you which apps are accessing the internet (and using power) when they should be at complete idle in spite of the app settings.
Galaxy Battery Tracker is a useful tool:
Set AOD to tap on. The power consumption when sleeping should be >.5% @hr, if higher something is running in the background. Likely Google backup Transport.
Use Package Disabler or abd edits to block apps that can't be dealt with using their settings or can't be uninstalled. I package disable about 70.
Be very careful what you disable; target only the power hogs and totally worthless apps like Digital Wellbeing. Dependencies... don't go too nuts or you'll destroy the functionality of the UI. Leave the many smaller Samsung system apps alone except for -known- bloatware you don't use. Try to know what you're disabling does and its dependencies if any. Do Not use other people's shotgun lists, create your own based on your requirements. This takes a while

Looking at Accubattery history.
It shows say 30% used. If it shows SOT to be say 3 hours then it's getting about 10%@hr SOT.
After a while doing this becomes second nature.
Can be used to easily see how much was used when sleeping overnight too (give some charge then turn off display for the night, see how much was used in the morning).
