Do I have 5g (USA)? - Nubia Red Magic 5G / 5S Questions & Answers

Was looking at this site, and it looks like none of carriers in the US have the 5g band this phone supports. Am I correct? Why is it called 5g? Why do I have a 5g icon in the status bar near the signal..

The 5g icon is fake. If you have sprint, it will work on sprint band 41 5g. Tmo, will be using that band eventually too.

I think this device doesn't work with Sprint 5G because this device doesn't support 4G anchor band used in USA. Only good way confirm this is via UE Capability Information message, but there is no non-root method available for your device.

Unlock Mate SE frequency bands

Is it possible? I'm with MetroPCS and get about 80% of their frequencies but I'm short a few bands. Anyone on the same boat as me?

I'm with T-Mobile and the phone works great with no band issues-even better than my S7 edge Tmo.

I know MetroPCS uses their network. Have you done the frequency check to see if you're getting all their bands, for t mobile I mean? I have attached the bands that the mate supports on Metro but would like to enable the ones that aren't.

I don't think the Mate phone (or any honor 7x version) have the hardware capabilities for band 66 or 71. If the phone was exclusively for T-Mobile, I bet Huawei probably equipped at least their flagships with them. Below you can see all the supported bands from all the Honor 7x versions.

For me, even if the phone had either band 66 or 71 dunno if T-Mobile have deployed these frequencies where I live. I either get band 4 or 12 and is incredible fast (100 Mbps download).
ugh i totally want to know how to unlock all those bands
This phone becomes useless when you travel to Europe especially with LTE as major bands used in Europe aren't supported on US models.

SM-N976V Note 10 plus 5G portability (carrier switch)

I'm looking to spend on Note 10 plus 5G, currently on Verizon but the biggest question that I couldn't find the answer is if in the future, I will have to stay with Verizon forever if I want to use 5G on this phone.
Samsung released different snapdragon models for each carrier, but what if I want to switch to Tmobile or AT&T with this phone? Is there a workaround to make these phones work with different carriers, especially with 5G?
S10 5G is out for many months, but I couldn't find a thread showing portability. Although selling the phone for a discounted price and buying other one that works on different carrier is an option, looking to find if it is practical to use 5G when we switch carrier.

once its sim unlicked it will workbwith other carriers.. ive tried it on multiole sims from dif carriers
The lte radios should be the same, the 5g will never work across carriers for now considering theyre taping into different spectrum. Modems and antenna designs are different between the different 5g methodology each carrier adopted.

I may not understand much details of these modems, however my understanding is that there are some 5G bands common between carriers.
Verizon holds 76% of total available 28GHz spectrum bands and and 48% 39GHz 5g spectrum bands.
At&T holds 40% of 39GHz bands and Tmobile holds 12% of 28GHz bands. If I'm not mistaken the modem in Note 10 5G model supports 600MHz which is new Tmobile band. So, if Note 10 modem supports those 2 5G bands on verizon, technically it should work on at&t and t-mobile too? Although these may work in different cities as of now
Yes and no, I don't know if it has the right antennas, they matter to match the signal length and the obvious is how locked the radio is.
You forget Verizon are evil about keeping their phones there.
It could be the phone is capable but will never be able because it's a Verizon phone and they nerfed something.

In the past we were able to unlock blocked antenna bands using Qualcomm QPST tool and hope there will be possibilities in the future. It's not that Verizon is evil, it applies to all carriers. There has been court ruled regulations that enabled users to take their device to other networks, but blocking 5G would be inconvenience to users, as we all know 5G is the future. I'm going to grab a Note 10 plus 5G for now

technically they wouldnt be blocking anything if they just dont include the antennae/functionailt.. its then up to the user to research and purchase if it suits their needs.
Follow up:
After Verizon unlocked the phone, surprisingly 5G works with Tmobile without any modification. Of course not all the bands. Haven't had 5G signal so far and suddenly when I'm standing near a 5G antenna in downtown Manhattan, I had full signal
I have the same phone. I was not able to see 5G with TMobile or AT&T. I am also not able to get the Verizon hardware off my phone. ( boot logo, etc.) Any work arounds?

nope.
the n976v only has vzw and gcf csc codes on it which both use the vzw sales code n network code.. changing carriers should work but on network as the csc should recognize this and load the correct apns n such but the bootani n vzw stuff is there to stay..

not odd.. its a vzw branded 5g device.. its hit or miss on other 5g networks.. they typically use different bands and frequencies and 5g variants dont contain full csc for other carriers like the non 5g devices
So I'm having an issue, I'm trying to get my phone to work with Total Wireless but for some reason I cannot adjust the APN and they can't send me an update to my sim card. I can get the calls and text to work and it shows 4g but no data due to the incorrect APN. Its all grayed out with no way to add or configure it. The IMEI also says its not compatible with Total Wireless which is weird since all other verizon phones have worked before except this Note 10+ 5g.

Where did you buy this phone? I had the same issue, when I changed the code to GCF from VZW. I had to send the phone back to Samsung, as the local samsung experience store couldn't even understand the problem. GCF is for Samsung diagnostic purposes only and they had to change the motherboard board on the phone in order to fix the issue. If your carrier 5g mmwave band is one of the band used by Verizon, you'll be able to use 5G with this phone. I was able to use 5G in NYC with TMOBILE, but not when I moved to a different state.

I can relate the issue you're facing. I was using this phone with TMobile 5G in NYC, but when I moved to different state, I can't get the 5G reception. In order to understand this further, you need to understand the frequencies supported by TMobile and frequencies owned by Verizon. TMobile shares one of Verizon's mmwave band (only around 25%) and these antennas are limited to only few metro cities. Even if you live in one of those big cities, you need to stand close to the 5G antenna in order to get the 5G signal. I remember that I had to stand within 50ft from the antenna in order to get 5G signal (downtown Manhattan near Meridian Lane and Water st).
So I'm new to this. Ive got a Note10+ 5G from Verizon (SM-N976V). Ported over from Verizon to At&t. Works fine accept its on 4G LTE (no 5G... the Samsung S9+ went over to 5G no issues). I am told if I flash the phone to the unlocked firmware it should get rid of the Verizon "lock" and work. I have tried this as per help form Android Central however having no success flashing... I am not exactly that savvy with this stuff... Please help

elliwigy, please let me know how you got your SM-N976V to work on other carriers. I've been trying to get mine to work on Visible and I can not change the APN settings.

You can network unlock it pretty easily even if the phone isn't paid off yet. Download setedit by 4a from the play store:

and change the setting "vzw_network_lock" from a 1 to a 0. You'll have to buy the expansion pack from 4a to have a foreground guardian that'll prevent it from going back to a 1.

Unlock additional DR (5G) bands?

Hi all,
I'm wondering whether it is possible in some way to unlock additional NR bands on the S20. As far as I understand the Snapdragon 865 chipset, it comes as a fully-fledged 5G mobile platform which can be used in all countries and which supports all possible NR frequencies/bands.
So, it seems to me, that Samsung just locks off the majority of bands in the different models (for example, I got the G9810 and like to use it overall in Europe. However, Samsung only delivers the bands N1 and N78 but not e.g. N28).
Would be great if anybody could give me a hint about this.

I looked at it but I'm unsure which bands are available to Sprint/ T Mobile in the St. Louis area. I set to Automatic. Playing it safe I guess .
Also when I switch to 5G it doen't show any bands. The S20 + is capable of more 5G bands I hear

Only can disable/enable bands what hardware support. If it doesn't you can't just randomly unlock bands.

i tried that before i even posted but most of the results are for the sm-g9860u and from the how to root guide it seemed like all the variants ending with U were unable to unlock the bootloader or root. i figured i would ask if anyone had a personal opinion or knowledge before wasting more of my time searching. thanks for the response though your thoughts are sincerely appreciated.

yeah you should pass on Samsung in general and get a 8 Pro. But if your decision depends only on 5G I have to say it shouldn't be that important, because 5G isn't that relevant so far, and maybe for the coming 1-2 years. And I'm sure won't keep the device longer then that anyways...

yeah tmobile isnt great and samsung is nerfed by the software. im giving up on cell phones and switching back to a landline

Even device support n41 ( 2.5 GHz) that doesn't mean it work in T-Mobile/Sprint 5G-network because it require anchor band on 4G. But i don't know much about this Hong Kong variant because haven't got any log from it. If someone have, please share. I agree with your suggestion to purchase the device from your Service Provider, that will pretty much guarantee you'll have all Carrier Aggregation utilities and 5G Connectivity Protocols in place. Unfortunately, users want a phone which has everything, no bloatware, unlocked bootloader, universal connectivity, full carrier aggregation and the best SoC. With all the variants from Samsung and varied Service Provider metrics that's not realistic.
I have a few questions you may be qualified to answer. Does the first letter of a band being capitalized or not have significance? Example n71 or N71? Does this represent MHz versus GHz? Secondly, in the example above, both the device and AT&T have a number of matching 4G Bands. Would this indicate the device will be able to anchor to the carrier? Lastly, let's assume a device and the carrier have multiple matching bands. Who or what determines which band will be paired in a specific connection, will the carrier determine this based on location or traffic volume, does the user have the ability switch to a specific bandwidth?

n71 and N71 is same band 600 MHz 5G NR. But in cacombos.com you see different characters like C what means contiguous intra-band CA. Example 3C.
On cacombos.com you can see example combination 2A4-66A4A_n71A2A what means 2-66_71 CA combination. Band 66 is anchor band for n71 5G.

S20+ 5G SM-G986B/DS cannot pick up 5G signal in China

Not sure if anyone experienced this. I bought my S20+ 5G in Sweden (SM-G986B/DS). Recently I'm traveling in China and I noticed that, even there's 5G coverage and i have a sim card which support 5G and i have turned the 5G switch on. I still cannot get 5G signal on my mobile.
I did some search and my carrier is using N78 and SM-G986B/DS supports N1 (2100), N3 (1800), N5 (850), N7 (2600), N8 (900), N28 (700) N40 (2300), N77 (3700), N78 (3500)....So there should not be a problem for my mobile to pick up the signal.
However, a S20+ China/HK version (supports 5G bands N41(2500),N78(3500),N79(4500)) can pick up the 5G signal with same sim card.
So i start suspecting actually there's a lock which preventing my mobile to pick up 5G signal. I read some report that some China version of 5G mobile, such as 1+8 china version or Xiaomi 10, also cannot pick up 5g signal in Europe, even they share the same band...
And that's really getting annoying... Is there a lock? It's a hardware lock or software lock?
In Samsung phone there is Carrier Policy limit bands, features etc per carrier like other devices. Without modem log hard to say.
S20+ China/HK-version: https://cacombos.com/device?model=SM-G9860 works at least in China Mobile 5G-network.
Based on your observation of the carrier bands, I'd say the mobile providers in China are using using either N41(2500) or N79(4500) for 5G. Checking the list of bands used by country on Wiki, China Mobile is using n41 (and maybe n79 as well), China Telecom is using N78 and China Unicom is also using N78.

It's China Unicom and it's N78. According to the Samsung website, N78 is supported by SM-G986B as well. That's why i'm confused.

Thanks, will try to have a look. and it sounds like even the mobile supports the bands but it's still cannot pick up the signal because the carrier is limited?
