Huawei Mate Xs factory screen film layer is unglued due to the bending of the screens - Huawei Mate XS Questions & Answers

I bought a Huawei Mate Xs about 30 days ago. Unfortunately, the manufacturer screen film protector is becoming increasingly unglued with every time I bend/fold the screens. It is unpeeled with the vertical length of the in-between area where both screens fold.
Due to the bends of screens, the thin screen film layer stretched and create a tubercle effect. From what I can see, this is an engineering fault as I was very careful with my Mate Xs.
I contacted Huawei UK and they told me to simply take off the film screen. I am doubtful of that as it wasn't said by a technician but rather by the normal customer service rep. I remember reading somewhere online that people shouldn't take off that screen film protector as it will make the phone way more vulnerable to scratches and other damage.
Please let me know if any of you know if it is okay to take off the thin film layer as Huawei wasn't very responsive to this issue.

Do you have the link for it

I think he's talking of Huawei's repair centers being able to correctly repair them now if you send your device in, not something you can buy yourself.

That's correct. Was there in Düsseldorf for the repair.

It tells you at like 3 different places on the packaging and during the setup process to never remove it.
Send it for warranty repair.

I had the exact same problem , i did send it back , waiting for the new one , I’m sure it will do it again , i will sell the mate xs when i get it

I had the same problem after a week of use. I peeled it off and use it since that and it's a way better experience, so I am not gonna have it replaced for sure.

I had the exact same issue was not advised to take screen protective film off, awaiting pick up from DPD

I have the same issue.
Only problem is that I live in the US, and imported my phone from Australia.
Any advice would be much appreciated

Buy new screen protector from eBay or aliexpress and then you can peeled off the original protector because we can remove original screen protector since it's not glued.I do this in my mate xs without any problems

What new screen protector? Most are too rigid to bend correctly

Hi
I ordered from protect film based in Germany, quality bendable glass's protector, much better than all cheap ones
Protectfilms24.com

Doesn't seem to be "bendable glass", but just 2 separate flat pieces that leave the bend unprotected. Not a fan, probably looks trash when unfolded too with those 2 rectangles.

Hi guys,
Update on my Mate XS
So the film did peal from the top of the screen, so got it picked up like my earlier post however it got sent to SBE repairs in the UK. Now this phone was less then a month old. It came back with deep scratches on the screen and with the hinge not feeling great. So away it went again to be returned this time with a bad dimple along the middle when unfolded again not feeling right. So 3 step in and I get a brand new handset.
All good so far however I did notice on this one it had a card in the box saying '' LEAVE PHONE IN UNFOLDED POSITIONS IF LEFT FOR LONG PERIODS'' could this be why they start to peal as they are shipped open in the box? is this the reason for the scree peel?
Anyway what are your guys thoughts?

Screen protectors

I'm a big fan of Brando screen protectors. Unfortunately, they have nothing specifically for the Desire yet. Does anyone know if the protector for the Nexus One will fit the Desire? As HTC make both, is it the same screen?
I doubt it because the nexus one has touch buttons at the bottom of the screen which a protector would probably cover.
Well, I got my DuraSec screen protector today. Not as good as Brando in my opinion but a good stopgap. Two days from Germany - not bad.
NOW WHERE IS MY PHONE?? Looks like it will be another 12 days!
Didnt you order it from tmobile? or going to o2 with it?
Im also interested in screen protectors... nothing came in the box. And theres not even a pouch for it... Kind of worryed about taking it outside the house untill its safe
I guess it would be a few months before leather cases come out for it?
Or do the nexus cases work fine?
Someone told me this place http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/2803/htc-desire-screen-protector
I am considering buying it from there.
I'm buying my phone from Handtec so I have to wait. I did ask if they knew whether they would get the screen protectors at the sme time but they said they had no information from HTC. The HTC screen protectors for the HD2 came out some time after the phone and reports were not very good.
DursSec are one of the very few quality ones already available.

Can you tell me the pluses and minuses of your screen protectors?
I've also ordered a cheap £4.99 double-pack if the HTC jobbies from Play, but I'm fully prepared to buy something else if they are too friction-y, or don't apply/fit properly.

The plus of the screen protectors are self explanatory. They will keep your screen as immaculate as possible, while still retaining full functionality (but you knew that already)
I'm hoping that as the ones from Play are the official HTC ones, they should be perfect for the job.
I'll let you know as soon as i get mine.
Regards

I too have ordered the ones of play.com, they do look to be the official HTC ones, as they are sold at the HTC accessory shop for about £7.99, play.com usually cheaper.
Screen protecter would add that peace of mind tbh, atm i'm paranoid that i'll damage the screen (which itself can damage the screen ironically) - ie, dirty fingers, same pocket with keyes, etc - more chance of haveing a nice screen.
stopgap measure hd2 screen protector cut down to fit

If it's just a pocket lol you'll be 100% fine. Isn't it a glass screen neway? WOuld have to be a pretty harsh scratch. I'm sure I won't be buying a screen protector for this phone. I think i'll just buy a pouch for it and shall all be good!

Use a clean microfiber cloth
Screen protector from Amazon UK (not tried it myself):

So which is better?
Play.com ones or Handtec ones?
What's the go with reducing sensitivity with the capacitive screens? I know with resistive anything over the top of the screen reduced sensitivity. I'm thinking of just getting a plastic case that slightly sticks out on the sides, meaning that if it was dropped on the ground, the screen won't touch the ground and only the edges of the case. Worked well for my Iphone.

two questions: using phone underwater with case one+reputable screen protector brands

Would it matter to submerge the phone with the case on? Or should it be taken off? And like the title says what are some suggested or reputable screen protector brands. At the moment I want to cover the back of the phone and when warranty runs up I'll replace the front ASF.
Thanks in advance

I can't speak to screen protector quality, but I would say, in regards to using a case underwater, that it may be best not to. The main reason being that the case may retain some water afterwards. In that case, you would probably want to remove the phone from the case and then allow both to dry. Of course, in many cases you may want a case on the phone for protection from more than just water (sand, rocks, etc) so it depends on how if it's too bothersome to dry off the case and the phone afterward.
I guess I might as well add my screen protector input while I'm here: I got the Invisible Defender by Rearth. I have bought accessories from them before, and this was a 3-pack with an additional clear film for the back. I question the durability, however, as the back film has quite a few scratches after only a few days. I usually go with Spigen's stuff, but they don't have any made for the Z1c. But $8 for a 3 pack of protectors isn't horrible.

I have one on my Nexus 5, I feel like it would stick up way too much and just get destroyed.
I've used both pet and tpu protectors for years and never had problems with good brands including keeping phone with keys in the pocket.
So, I pulled the trigger and ordered Xinomi 6 pack, at least that's the name I heard of and for protectors they got consistent 4+ stars at amazon, will let you know once they arrive.

Did you received the Skinomi screen protector? How do you like them?
Yes, just got it installed last night.
In nutshell they are OK, easy installation (cause you can reposition while it is wet and screen is small), good clarity and OK feel, not too rubbery. Have no idea if they how good they are at protecting the screen tho, never used them before.
OK, noticed only outside, but looks like it makes screen more glossy look, not extremely bad, but noticeable a bit
Got a package too

I got the cheap (like 3$) xgaurds or whatever from ebay - the 6 pack or 1 pack is from the same vendor, the 1 pack is wet, the other is dry application. Works great, it is a wet application and doesnt mess with the sensors.
I am usually terrible at putting these on as I have no patience, but I only have one pin like size buble on the upper edge which is not even noticeable. I dont notice a difference in the tactile feedback

Sure...the wet one is "ExtremeGaurd" while the Dry is "EZGaurd". I didnt know one was wet, maybe because it was so cheap so I thought "what the hell", but I always go wet if possible.
I like the wet better as you can iron out the bubbles and i find it more idiot proof (especially with this watch) since you put the soapy water all over your hands and watch without any worry since its waterproof. That means no fingerprints and a pretty good adherence.
For 3$ and like 5 day shipping, give it a shot...at least you didnt waste much money!

choosing a case for Z1

Hi everyone, I recently got the Xperia Z1 and I love it! I was looking for a good case to protect it, but there are so many that I'm not sure what to buy. Last week the phone accidentally fell to the floor because it was vibrating, luckily the phone is ok, but the front glass cracked and needs to be replaced. So now I'm looking for some good protection.
It would be great to hear your opinions about which protections do you think is best.
Thanks a lot for the help!

Get a tempered glass screen protector. And my friendly tip, tempered glass on front, a film back protector (on the back obviously) and then get a case the covers the WHOLE SIDE OF THE PHONE, INCLUDING the bottom and top parts. trust me. I had a case on and my phone still got a dent near the earphone jack when it fell on a very rough surface from chest height. If you want full protection for the sides and corners, get a case that wraps around the phone. maybe a bumper. The film protector and tempered glass will take care of the front and back.
P.S.
I use a Illumishield screen protector for the back, and a Alibaba Tempered Glass protector on the front (9H Hardness).
thanks for the tips! I'll look for a case and a tempered glass protector
I agree with mahalkosijoy.
Get a tempered glass for the front screen. Protective film for the back is optional. For me, it is much better to get a hard back cover like CapDase. Be mindful on the slot for the camera and flash when buying cases as this can affect your image like flashbleeds on the captured image.
thanks for all the help. I'm having a really bad time with this. I had to buy the replacement for the display+lcd on the web because nobody has it where I live, it was quite expensive. I took the phone to a technician to install it, and the screen seems to be failing, it turns on, all black, and some fine vertical lines. I contacted the seller, but he won't give me a new one, said warranty is void after you try to install it.
Really sad

Rhino Shield screen protector

I almost tried every possible maker out there for a glass screen protector for my s8+.. Alllllll are as bad as it can ever be.. From the 50$ glass to the 6$ once..
Given all the above.. And given my experience from the pixel xl.. Rhino was the only company that made a perfect glass screen protector, FULL ADHESIVE.. yes full adhesive, BUTTT no idea if they were able to perfect this one, no mention in the website if it's full adhesive or not, but i took my chances that at least it should work better thab any out there even if not full adhesive.. I pre ordered it, and i think they started shipping..
Crossing my fingers that they will step up and make one that really works.. I live out of the US, so mine will take few more days to arrive, but if any pre ordered and is expecting to receive it soon.. Please share your experience with us here. (while we "i am" waiting)..

I ordered one back on 4/10. That was the first day that I saw the Rhinoshield products for the S8+ online. I ordered the Crashguard bumper as well as the tempered glass screen protector. When I ordered on the 10th the site said the orders would ship from 4/10 - 4/20 for the bumper and 4/15 - 4/25 for the screen protector. The 21st came and my bumper wasn't even shipped, so I sent them a message on Friday asking how I was supposed to protect my phone now LOL....I was being a bit of a jackass but still if they couldn't ship it by the 20th don't tell me you can. The girl sent me back an email offering me free 2 day international shipping and told me that I would for sure be in the first batch if I switched my color to black for the bumper (I had originally gotten the gray to go with my arctic silver phone) so I did. Now she originally told me that the screen protectors would be ready before the bumpers so I assume this package contains both items.....my order says fulfilled and there is nothing to lead me to believe it is partially fulfilled.
Just this morning I got a shipping notice and it has been picked up by Fedex in Taiwan. It is supposed to be at my door on Wednesday according to Fedex.....I'll let you guys know how it is.
Never has luck with glass protectors so i al with wet instsll skinomi ones.
I did order a rhinoshield crash graud.
Kinda sucks that they delay the release.

Will do. Along with others here who share the same interest.. Lets see in few days..
I ordered one too on 4/14. Still unfulfilled. It is full adhesive based on the chat I had with a rep.

Really.. Thats a great news.. If they were able to do it full adhesive as they did in the pixel xl.. They will kill the market.. Lets wait and see.. Coz with the pixel, it took them 2 versions (editions) of improvements to reach the perfect one.. Thank you for sharing that..
That would be awesome if its full adhesive, although I don't see a case friendly one unless I missed it

I hope someone physically confirms this. No offense but I don't trust people from the chat support. I have been told so many misinformed information from chat support of various places.

My order was delivered to my forwarding address in NY about 2 hours ago.. It needs another 3 days to reach me here in dubai. Hoping someone else already received it to give us the feedback..

I just got mine at my house and hour ago. I installed the TGSP first. It isn't what everyone here is hoping for I don't think. Regardless of what the spokesperson told the guy in chat the adhesive does not cover the entire back of the protector, it is just like the other curved ones that have it on the sides/edges. With that said, it does appear to be the good silicone adhesive. I've been rubbing the edges of mine damn near constantly since I put it on and see no lifting yet. I also don't notice any tapping when I touch the screen. It does have those little dots to help with glare or whatever, but this isn't the first glass I've had with those.
Now with all that said......this is my first curved screen phone and thus my first curved screen TGSP. I've read all the posts here about how it sucks for curved screen phones. In this short time honestly I can't tell you that I notice a different between this one and the Zagg glass that I had on my Nexus 6P or the Spigen glass that my wife has on her iPhone 6s. Now granted that might change, but I think as of right now it is decent and will protect my screen from scratches. Now the fact that it doesn't have adhesive across the device leads me to believe that the impact protection of this TGSP versus a flat one that is adhered across the whole screen is not as good.....but I don't drop my phone much.
I also got the crashguard bumper from them and it is OK. It feels a little loosey goosey even for a bumper but I think I can live with it. The only real issue that I see with it is the button over the bixby button won't actually touch/actuate the bixby button itself. The power and volume rocker work fine even if they are tighter than ****'s hat band. The cutouts for the mics, speaker, USC-C port, and headphone jack are spot on accurate.

So the rep lied to me about the adhesive?! That is extreme irritating! Is there any rainbow effect? Can to share pic of the edges please?

Unfortunately it appears that either that person did lie to you or they were ignorant to the way the thing was really designed.
Now that you mention it I looked again and I do see a tiny spot of rainbow effect. It is small so I wouldn't really care, but the problem is it is directly in the circle for my left eye when the iris scan pops up....kind of annoying.
I don't have another camera handy to take a pic at the moment....when I get home from work I'll try to see what kind of pics I can get of the edges with my wife's ip6s. So stand by for a few hours on those

Thank you for your detailed update..
Honestly i wasn't expecting them to reach the level of full adhesive, for one simple scientific reason, curved screens are not identical, there is always a difference in the curving margin that is acceptable from manufacturing quickly prespictive (i remember reading an article about that), and the adhesive should be really thick (relatively) to avoid that margin which will reflect into bluring the screen and lowering the clarity to a very noticeable level..
Given all that, my hopes were just for them to make something that is more decent than what's in the market, and from ur description, i can say "MAYBE".. I will have to wait and see when i get mine, coz i literally tried everything there, except for the siphhire semi-film/glass by zagg, and the genuine Samsung thick plastic protector - waiting for those to arrive, They both are a middle way solution, nor a film neither a glass, just a thick plastic protector..
