Caller ID block not working now - Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Questions & Answers

I can no longer change my Caller ID, on my Mi Max 3.
I believe it just had an update and before this, I was able to change my options from Hide ID, System ID or Number Only ID... now it's grayed out and gives no options.
I use this option, quite often. How can this be fixed?

Thanks for the reassurance that I wasn't losing my mind, lol...
I've also found some other issues...
Whenever I'm try using the speech to text, on the keyboard, it will not dictate.
When I use the speaker, the mic picks up the speaker out up and echos. The person I'm talking to, hears a bad echo. Also, I use the built in app, to auto record my calls and when I'm on a call, in speaker mode, the recording has bad echos.
Is there a way to revert back to Miui 11? What benefits does 12 offer, anyways?

I tried to flash back miui 11 but it is not working now or forever (without full wipe - dirty flash). Benefits? Well miui 12 has a higher number then miui 11 so.......I have no idea I was hoping for some bug fixes, but for know I don't see too many important changes.

What are the Fixes/Enhancements in EC05?

Hello, I was just wondering what the fixes and enhancements were from EB13 to EC05.
Can you tell me some?
Thanks
from briefmobile
Enhancements listed in the document include: Upgrade of the Google OS from Éclair to Froyo (2.2.1), Add Sprint ID, Ability to install applications to external storage, Improved Bluetooth device support, Bluetooth Voice Dialing, Flash Player 10.1, GPS Enhancements, Improved OS performance. This MR also adds SprintID functionality to the Samsung Epic. Fixes are Email PIN based authentication and User friendly tethering for 3G and 4G.
As described, Sprint ID will be included in this update, but it will not fully replace TouchWiz, known as the “Samsung Experience” in the internal documents. In the “Frequently Asked Question section, I found these:
“Exiting out of Sprint ID; Return to the Samsung User Experience:”
- “Press the ID icon on the bottom of the screen. At the Choose your ID screen, click on “Samsung”. This will return you to the Samsung user experience.”
“Do I have to use Sprint ID?”
- “No. At any time you may move the Sprint ID icon to another screen, however it can not be permanently removed.”

Ok I have only been using it for about 10 minutes but I immediately tested the few things that I knew existed on EB13 for me.
1. Camera sports mode fixed
2. Video recording in low light fixed
3. Compass being screwed up fixed
4. 3g speeds faster for me
5. overall speed seems faster
6. Physical keyboard isn't missing keys for me DISCLAIMER: I am not a speed typer. I have only used the keyboard a few times since owning the Epic. However on EB13, and before, I could produce the letter skips pretty easily. Especially on double leTTers. I tested by typing 100 words as fast as I could and I did not have a single letter miss. But I did have a few spelling errors
Only two problems that I know of which I don't really care that much about
1. Browser checkerboarding
2. Playing audio from flash content over the web to bluetooth headphones stutters badly. Flash audio out of the speakers work fine. Had this problem on EB13 also.
If I run into anything else I will let you know.

Sprint ID can be removed before and after. The best solution is to go the system/app/W_Installer.apk and delete it. Do this BEFORE you ever click on the ID icon.
If you have already clicked on the installer you will have to hunt down a lot of files. Good luck to you.....
i dont think that ec05 has been push to even .01 percent of handsets. I think sprint will push the update today sometime. I cant even update profile, update prl, check for updates, all i get is unknown error...... this started yesterday,,,,

[APP] Root Call Blocker - need some feedback please

Hi guys, Im the dev of Root Call Blocker, a powerful blocking solution. There have been a few reports of people experiencing issues with the data connection on the S3, which i dont have.
Could someone please let me know if this is indeed the case?
If you do find an issue please follow this procedure:
- as soon as you spot the radio without a data connection (not after a call) send logs through the "Write to us" item in Settings
- once youve sent the report, try using the Debugging tools found in settings
- if the tools do not help, please send another report - this will still help me track issues
Thanks in advance, PR after the break

Hi my friend once again. Never had any issues on the s3 with this app. But my guess is losing data connection happens when the app is kicking out of memory. I recognized this on the s1 as well but as soon as you restart the app the connection is back again. Maybe someone can confirm this.

No, only the service can run out of memory, the daemon is not kill able.
I assume that these were teething problems.

I'm using this app and haven't experienced any issues with the data connection. Not sure if it's because the profile set up is only active during the night when I'm not using the data connection anyway.

The daemon in this app intercepts all cellular traffic, regardless of the active profile. That I guess means its working as it should.
Best blocker so far. I have not encountered any cell signal disruption but I assume further improvement can still be made to the app although I can't personally give any suggestion since I'm quite fine dealing with the current UI design and setup. Perhaps underlining codes can be improved further?

It depends on the reject method you chose and the topology (speed, congestion, etc) of the network at the time. At worst the caller may hear a partial tone. I suggest you try all the reject methods for yourself, theres a free version of the app available:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.rootcallblocker.beta
Just call yourself via skype or whatever.
I want to raise a question. What is the pros and cons using this Root Call Blocker over some replacement.
I thought this because the word Root in the title. Does this app requires root?
This one even don't require root and could connect servers in order to get junk call list.
Maybe you can ask that developer to help too.

Nope. Blocking speed depends on the network topology (speed, quality, congestion, roaming) at the time - you might find, using the "fast reject" method that there is sometimes an immediate disconnect and other times a partial tone.
Re fast reject - its a simple command just to kill the call asap, it completely ignores the network state, just kills the call on the device end.
Anyway, this is the best you will ever see outside virtual phone numbers nowadays. Also, you know theres a trial available right?

i read i'm not only one but i didn't find solution
So I got the N-5120 LTE version, running Android 4.1.2., a couple of weeks ago. I'm very pleased with this versatile tablet. I intended to use this with Skype Out. Making Skype to Skype calls works fine through a BT headset. However when using Skype Out, calls are initiated through the headset, but as soon as they start, they are then switched over to the phones earspeaker. The loudspeaker function is not available for Skype Out.
Both the BT and the Speaker Phone functions are turned on/off only through Samsung's sofware, it seems, and then only once the call has started.
I can tell I'm not the only one with this challenge. That said, since there are so few complaining about this here I'm wondering if there are fixes?

I did. This is apparently a common problem among Note users on the Skype forum, and according to them, this appeared with the latest version of Skype. What to do?
1. Uninstall Skype through the Play store, as usual.
2. In the Google Play store, click on the uppermost left hand side corner, choose my apps, and unclick auto updating. Otherwise Skype will auto update to the new version again... BTW you will henceforth have to update all your apps manually.
3. On your unit, go to Settings, Security (the padlock symbol) and allow unknown sources of programs, outside of the Play store
4. Go here http://skype.en.uptodown.com/android/download/44494 and install the older version: Skype 3.2.06673
5. Go back to the Security, and deselect unknown sources if you want to lock down your device again.
This enabled me to make Skype Out calls with both headset and speakers. It's not entirely fool proof, as sometimes it starts on the speakers before handing over to the headset, but at least it works.

http://community.skype.com/t5/Android/How-to-create-a-good-Android-issue-report/td-p/211384
So v. 3.2.0.6673 was probably a blessing in disguise. Skype on Android via the loudspeaker or BT continues erratic behavior, although it's better than v. 4.5.. from that sspect I discovered on here that a bug in v 3.2.0.6673 allows an attacker to bypass the lock screen on your Android device.*

Call Record

I anyone have any luck with getting the recording of calls back up an running? I have memory issues and used to record my calls so that I can go back and listen to what was said so I can write down the important things that I miss. Searching around it says that we need to root our devices, which I have done, but can't seem to find a program or setting to allow for the recording of conversations, legally of course.

Are you recommending that app because you know for sure that it works with rooted phone running Android Pie? Because it doesn't work for me; Pixel 3 isn't listed under their list of phones (root required or not) and I'm guessing because it doesn't work with Pie.
Google's being a d-bag about the whole call recording thing on Pie, eliminating the work-around that let the usual apps work (ACR is/was my go-to).

It sucks I was using acr forever and it worked great until this phone. And it seems that most of the programs that require root require supersu not magisk and the one program that did mention magisk as a possibility was highly geared for a certain rom only.
I ended up going with boldbeast recorder. It was able to get root and it seems to be working pretty good. Thanks a bunch for the ideas!

I tried half a dozen recommended apps last night and Boldbeast was the only one I could get to work using the rooted options and their Also recording option as discussed here.
I am however having some problems with their cloud sync options.
I would like to find a working recorder that has cloud sync and only a one time purchase fee.
I've tried a number of call recording apps including Call Recorder by @skvalex and Boldbeast recorder and am unable to get anything except for silent recordings on either of them.
I am on a Google Pixel 3XL that is rooted with Magisk, but not on a custom rom. I am running Android 10 with the May 2020 security patch level.
Does anyone have a solution for an automated call recorder that works?
Thanks!

After doing more reading and some trial and error, I still don't have a fully functional solution, but I may have made some progress.
I installed Call Recorder by @skvalex version 3.3.6 as a Magisk Module.
By setting it to
-Main:Standard API
-Standard API:Audio source: * [ROOT] CAF
-Recording format: WAV
-Device: Qualcomm (Android 10)
-Sample Rate:8000 Hz (Default)
-Recording mode: Auto
-Don't use AMR driver: (checked)
-When BT connected...: Do Nothing
-Switch ALSA controls: (not checked)
I get a recording of only my side of the conversation. There is no audio for the person calling me.
I tried many other audio sources and devices, all of them lead to completely silent recordings.
Thanks again for the help and suggestions!

Question The new Android 12

I have a few questions regarding the new update.
1. Does region matter?
I have a RETEU device, is there a reason why flashing the RETBR wouldnt work?
2. Is it worh it? Are the features (mostly design and privacy interest me) Android 12 promised there and functional?
3. How is the battery life on it?
I would love if you guys could help me out since i am very exited about the new features!
Also is there a Third Party Android 12 ROM, or GSI or something, any of you guys have used and recommend that is somewhat functional as a daily driver?
Thanks and much love!
No harm in waiting... 12 is a mess across all devices.
I bailed with Adroid 10 and don't regret spurning 11 and up one bit. CPU cycle sucking scoped storage became mandatory with 11; 12 is likely worse. I would research this first.

Hey,
short feedback from my experiences since upgrading to Android 12 in Germany.
1. Sorry, no idea.
2. Privacy features seam to work fine. Only problems I experienced are the following.
- You can now deny new / formerly hidden permissions. Denying them can brick apps. (example denying the "alarm / reminder" permission bricks the app "Notebook" until permission is granted again).
- All quick access setting have to be sorted again.
- new "deny all microphone access" in quick setting does what it should. For me it did it's job too literally. My interpretation "deny all apps except calling" but all MEANS all (yeah I know obvious... duh....).
3. Haven't performed any special comparisons but it feels same or maybe even a bit longer.

Hi,
to be honest, I have no idea what you mean. I guess I'm too much of a noob regarding Android internals. I mean no offense. Would you be so kind to briefly explain this? Thanks
--------
Some of my own experiences / questions.
Background:
I'm using my device with the work profile to keep annoying apps at bay.
Using "Shelter" app.
Using "Aurora Store" in work profile to install apps.
No factory reset was performed since upgrade.
Not rooted.
Problem:
Since the upgrade to Android 12 I'm experiencing an quite annoying bug. Using the "phone" app (private profile) I have no sound and microphone sometimes. So I can't hear and can't be heard. If I'm activating the work profile and use the "phone" app (again from private profile) I suddenly have sound and microphone.
Fix / workaround:
Another way to "fix" this problem is to reboot the phone. After reboot it works for an undefined time. I haven't tested if the problem starts after using work profile and deactivating it again. I'm testing it and I'll try to not forget to post an update for others.
FYI:
BTW if sound from other apps does work, wasn't tested until now. If you need to call you normally have no time for testing, so reboot it was for me.
Tested solutions:
Tested some general "solutions" from REDDIT & Co.
Editing settings in "Sound & vibration" -> "Audio effects": recommended "activate Dolby ATMOS". Phone doesn't have that so i resetted the setting (after tapping "Audio effects" tap "Settings" at the bottom then tap 3 dot menu and tap "Reset")
- DIDN'T WORK
Suggestion it's a carrier problem
Set network selection to manual and select your corresponding network.
- DIDN'T WORK
Deactivate or activate "Wi-Fi calling". (mine was activated so I deactivated it)
- DIDN'T WORK
Enable or disable "VoLTE". (mine was activated so I deactivated it)
- DIDN'T WORK
My questions:
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Has anyone found a solution?

Hey,
short feedback from my experiences since upgrading to Android 12 in Germany.
Thanks

Great formating and great feedback! Thanks so much!
The first point seems irrelevant anyways since the update is now for RETEU too.
I might try to upgrade tonight but i might wait a bit since i try and degoogle my phone as much as i can so i will probably soft brick it once or twice.
If I run into any of the issues you have i will come back with more feedback!
Regarding what BlackHawk said, from my understanding somehow the new scoped storage feature ( that allows apps to have access to only selected files and folders instead of device wide storage access) somehow messes with the CPU.
He most likely knows more but thats just my basic understanding and interpretation of what he said.
Thanks again and have a great day!
