Is there a way to force HDMI output resolution? - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Ok, so here's what I wanted to do:
I wanted to stream my gaming adventures from the Note 10 Plus 5G (T-Mobile) to a USB-C to HDMI cable, into the Elgato CamLink 4K. All works fine but since the CamLink 4K detects the input from the Note 10 as 2160p at 30fps, my games on the Note 10 automatically cap framerate at 30fps, and I notice a lag/sluggishness while in a game. The moment I unplug the USB-C to HDMI cable, the fps in-game goes back to 60fps. I've tested just plugging the hdmi into a TV and the fps does not change in the game, so the issue has to deal with when I connect it to the CamLink 4K and it allowing only 30fps at 2160p which is a hardware limitation, and the Note 10 Plus automatically forcing the game to cap at 30fps.
I'm trying to find a way to over come this issue by changing the Note 10's hdmi output to 1080p (since the CamLink 4K supports 60fps at 1080p). My question is, is there a way to do this without root? Or does anyone else have any ideas?
I could capture using ScrCpy but there is no audio capture and the quality isn't as good as capturing from CamLink.

Hi .did you manage to find a solution ? Im experiencing same issue

Hey guys! I'm extremely happy to say it's your lucky day! I was looking into this exact issue for my Note 10+ and my NReal Air AR glasses.
I found this app called SecondScreen: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farmerbb.secondscreen.free
It allows you to fully control all kinds of settings for external displays!
No rooting required, you will need a PC to run an ADB command but it will have all the instructions in the app for you.
Made an account just to help, cheers!

T-Mobile Note 3 doesn't have 4k video recording?

im sure it will.. after all it will have the S800.. they need to update that info.. plus no one really has 4K tvs or the note 3 has 4k screen lol
I was worried for a second lol. But yeah, the Tmobile website has the same descriptions re-used for most of their phones. Since no other phone does 4k video-recording right now, the lazy guy who made the page just checked the box for "1080p HD Camcorder - Capture all your best experiences in high definition video" and called it a day.

To play a 4k content it is not mandatory to have a 4k UHD tv. My 2 year old dell n5110 can play the Elysium 4k trailer smoothly.
It is not mandatory either to have a 4k display phone to record or view 4k content. If the gpu (/ +cpu) is optimized to play a 4k content why should I bother watching it on N3. The S3 has 720p screen, does it refrain the S3 from shooting or playing 1080p content?
Hell no.

You sir have completely lost your mind. 4K UHD is a resolution of 3840 pixels × 2160. The Samsung Galaxy note 3 has a resolution of 1920×1080. The note 3 will probably have somewhere of around 2 million pixels as a standard 1080p tv does. The 4k tv's have over 8 million pixels. While the note 3 will be able to shoot 4k resolution (3840 pixels × 2160) of the camera, the max resolution of the screen (1920×1080) can't display a higher resolution than what it's given. If the camera even on your phone shoots 1080p and the resolution on the screen is 720p then no the screen can't display the full 1080p resolution of the video. The cpu and gpu can support the shooting and playing of the video, but the screen resolution limits it and you are not watching it in 4k. If that was the case then there would be no 720p screens, 1080p screens, or 4k screens. Your right on the part of not a lot of people have 4k tv's. Most people I even mention it to don't know what 4k is.
^ what he said.
You need a 4k display to view content in 4k. It's like hooking up a blu ray player to an old CRT TV - yeah, it will work, but you won't be seeing the content in 1080p HD. I guess it's cool that they are future proofing the Note by making it capable of shooting 4k video, but realistically, it will be useless for most people.
It's my understanding from talking to.a Samsung rep that it does not record in 4k but rather upconverts the video for 4k playback
I could.have misunderstood this.but 100% he specifically used the word upconvert.
Just confirmed it does 4k.
Likewise, I picked up the GN3 yesterday and it does have 4k video for Tmobile

Wow... my head hurts after reading that conversation...
Just to add fuel to the fire - I have the T-Mobile version and also have what appears to be a 5 minute limit on 4K recording, same as you.

After I read your comment I went to my camera and sure enough I also have the 5 minute limitation on 4K RECORDING. Not only me but my daughter's and my son cameras too.

Maximum Recording Limit Reached is what mine says once I reach the five minutes, then the phone does a lot of post processing. What we need to find out is if it is only t-mobile or all the N3 variants.
Its all models of Note 3 the limit is there because of file size when recording in 4k. Samsung knows this, It was in quite a few of the early reviews of the Note 3.

I guess I must have missed those reviews. I stopped reading reviews after I ordered mine. At the time no one knew which versions would have 4k recording. I wonder what the problem is. When I made my test recording I had plenty of memory space for a longer video. Oh, I think I see what they are doing, I bet they are capturing to the 3GB of chip memory and then copying and compressing the file to the sd memory.

See that's what I thought too but what doesn't make any sense is its only 1.88gb that is 5 minutes. On top of that if recording to the phone itself it can handle 4k if it can handle USB 3.0 copy speeds...
Sad thing is I've ripped everything apart looking to see where the limit is to see if I could modify it but I can't find a thing

Inpic i7 update
UPDATE
A well presented device.
With the few extra bits supplied to make up lack of USB ports
A flashy looking programmable remote that has a few already preprogrammed features
Select Vod button up comes You tube, Select TV and Kodi runs
TV-SYS brings up HDMI resolution settings and Setup straight to lollipop settings.
Red Standby and Blue power on LED on the front, and remote works as you would hope to control Media Player.
All can be easily altered to suit your individual needs
4 to 5 meters line of site seems achievable.
The Inphic Spot i7 does have root.
Being a 1/8 gb units can struggle a little when pushed
Running a few bench mark test it was noticed.
This is Inphics first release of Lollipop 5.1 so a few quirks yet to be sorted.
First turn and setup Google and update no problems,
Found Twitter, Skye, Facebook, Currents not big space takers removed.
Plex, Netflix, Hulu, Chrome, Mxplayer and few other Google apps
My unit can run HOT seen the temp get over 100c with certain benchmark test.
Vellemo and Antutu you could see it trying and struggled just a little.
Kodi struggled a little showing 2 CPU one at 100% then the some Skipping noted.
Wifi speed is OK compared to others I use with the same setup/location
Updating apps/downloading from Google over wifi speed was good.
As this is the first of the Lollipop from Inphic there will be a few things to sort out.
The Guys at inphic appear to be having a go with products so we can hope for some good support.
I was hopping for a new Rom or update by now but with Holidays in China just finished can take a bit to get back into action
too much party time...
Overall a pretty good Unit a few updates needed and should be a handy streaming device for your collection
More as it comes

I see after a closer look. Thanks for the YT.
Received this today, nothing on screen when plugged in, with multiple cables, on all inputs into working outlets. Remote doesn't do anything. What am I doing wrong?
I don't have one of these, but some general things to check. Any LEDs on? Do you have a way to check the power supply/power adapter?
Nope, no LEDs showing on box. Don't know how to test power adapter.
If you know someone with a multi-meter or other voltage tester, perhaps they could check it for you. If you want to try it yourself, it is a simple test and many cheap multi-meters are readily available for $7-$10(USD). Power adapters are relatively common fail point on these types of devices.
You could also find a substitute power adapter, but it is very important that the substitute matches the original. This information can be found on the power adapter....
-Volts DC=Volts DC(Must match exactly)
-Amps=Or greater
-Tip Polarity(Must match exactly) ie Tip positive or Tip negative, usually indicated by symbols like these...
-Connector size and type must match(fit)
So are the Nexbox A1, Yundoo Y2, Vensmile A1 all made by the same company, Shenzhen Visson Technology Co? Looks like they are the ODM for quite a few others as well.
It may help with potential firmware development.
Bought this box, and it is problems with Tvheadend and Amlogic S912 in Kodi. It will not use HW acceleration in HD Live TV. ?

FireTV 3 wont play UHD from prime

Is anyone having this issue or can tell me how to fix.
I have a firetv 3 with a samsung UHD tv.
When I try to play any UHD content from prime I get the message that the HDMI port is not HDCP 2.2 compatible.
I have tried in different HDMI ports and I still get the same message (all ports on my TV are HDCP 2.2 compatible!)
I have got a picture of the error message

Content is protected by the publishers and not all equipment supports all the standards. In order to play it, every piece of your system must be compliant. Your Fire TV 3 is, your HDMI cable may not be, your AVR may not be, and your TV may not be. The documentation that came with your equipment will say what it supports or you can Google it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
UHD also means lots of different things too. such as HDR (high dynamic range, deep color), HDR10, and DV (Dolby Vision). The newer 3D sound formats, such as ATMOS offer another level of complexity. Your 3 supports Atmos which is basically the addition of height. I don't think you can do it without ceiling speakers but manufacturers claim they can fake it.
That's the best I can wrap my little brain around it.
Hi, Thanks for the reply.
The Fire TV3 is plugged directly into the usb port so no cable to make the signal change.
Ive got a Samsung KS8000 4k TV so it meets all of the standards that you spoke about, and did play the 4k content from my firebox (second generation)
I have tried all USB ports and I still get the same message.
Interestingly it does work sometimes though. but once you turn off the program and try to watch again I get the above message again.
Just dont understand it!

Sometimes works is a clue. I searched your TV and it seems to support the higher standards. I presume "plugged directly into the usb port" is a typo and you meant HDMI. Your HDMI ports are 2.0 and the set is HDCP 2.2 compliant so they shouldn't be the problem. Have you checked the Pendant's video output settings? Are there any obscure TV settings missed? Sounds a lot like a bad HDMI cable but yours is part of the FTV and very short. Any chance it has been damaged or the plug has been damaged? I kind of think suspending the box from the cable and port is a dumb idea. Tried wiggling it while online? Still have your 2? If so, does it work? That might tell you something.

Hi Sorry for the late reply. I have been in work!:crying:
Yes that was a typo I meant HDMI rather than USB.
I have the fire pendant plugged directly into HDMI port 2. I checked the video output settings and I have set it to upto 4k. I have set the scaling for my TV and that is fine.
I asked amazon to change the fire 3, which to their credit the did and sent me a new on... unfortunately the same thing happens. The weird thing is netflix will still play in 4k when I get this message about amazon content.
I still have my firetv 2 and I did as you suggested and tried that... plays without ant issues whatsoever.
Im so confused. Not sure if this is a firmware bug or something else!
Thanks for your help again
