What is the difference between Global, EU, and Chinese versions? - Nubia Red Magic 5G / 5S Questions & Answers

Hello there, i want to buy this phone, but first I would like to know what is the difference between Global, EU, and Chinese version? Is it worth buying it at all (worked hard for this money,
If yes, what is the best place to order it? I live in Ukraine.

The NA version is not using the same board with CN version, and NA version have the NFC, the EU version have NFC as well, but the support band is different with NA version.

There's a separate thread that discusses all the issues on the global ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nubia-red-magic-5g/how-to/dear-nubia-t4092965
I flashed the Chinese ROM to get FaceID and simple things like the battery indicator and full functioning UI experience, but had to give up things like NFC and Netflix, Google on the left screen, 3rd party app launcher (which was missing anyway), but happier now than as it came out of the box.
If you're spending your hard earned money and want no regrets, I would wait for an updated global ROM where they fix all the issues or for a developer to come with something (which will probably be sooner than Nubia and their awful customer service).
RM has a global site to order from. I would recommend that instead of direct from China as you'll have more of a chance at support that way.

@JerryYin On Nubia's website I cannot find the differences between the NA and EU models for bands. Which bands does the NA have that the EU doesn't?

So you went from the Global ROM to the China ROM, but have you looked into the NA ROM?

I came from the NA ROM. I ordered it from the RM NA site. I thought NA and EU are global ROMs. Anyway check out the website for bands and other details.

Check Expansys USA -- they have the 'Lava Grey' (i.e.: black) version for $210, with free basic shipping. 'Natural aluminum' (i.e.: silver) version is s'thing like $30 more. I'm posting this reply in a hurry, so no links -- sorry.
n.b.: Expansys does not specify China (PRC) or Taiwan model, but it's easy to conflate the two countries as 'China'. I asked Expansys to check stock; they sent a fresh device photo, showing /all/ Google services installed.

my friend helped me buy a nokia n1 in taiwan and its cost only 257 USD . is it cheapest ?

My N1 from Expansys has Build number A5FM401. Neither the tablet nor the retail box nor the packaging was shrink wrapped. Is there a reliable way to determine whether it had the TW version with Google Play straight from the factory or whether the software was altered after it left the factory?

Well, I can say that I'm quite happy with the Taiwanese N1 I bought from Expansys USA. It arrived brand-new in factory packaging and after the usual set up (plus some extra time required to get around the initial language barrier) works great...best $210 I've ever spent on an Android device.

Here's what I can tell you, from personal experience.:
• A5FM401 is the factory-installed build for Nokia's Taiwan release of the N1. Shortly after first login, the device will download several OTAs, culminating in Android 5.0.2 (A5FM51C).
• With my N1, the shrinkwrap had been carefully cut likely to open the box for inspection as noted in Expansys' catalog (e.g.: to check for damage and/or a US-type power plug).
• The tablet itself still wore the factory's wrapping. I carefully examined the polythene under bright lights (think C.S.I.: Android !), but saw absolutely no signs of tampering.
• From talking to several people who own the Chinese (PRC) model, nobody in their right mind would go to the trouble of re-flashing one to make it look like the Taiwanese part.
BTW: when I asked Expansys to verify Google's apps, s'body in the warehouse kindly sent a pic of a freshly unboxed/booted Nokia N1. Maybe that's the one you got?
Hope this helps a bit.

I'd like to hear your results, for sake of curiosity. Meanwhile, mine stopped at Android v5.0.2 -- I'm told this is the current final release for Nokia's Taiwanese N1.
To date, only their Chinese (PRC) part has been upgraded to 5.1.1, but since that OTA rolled out just a few weeks ago, I guess there's still hope for the rest of us.

I am happy with the Expansys unit as well, I was debating between the N1 and the new Asus zenpad 8.0 s which has the same processor and slightly better specs but costs more.. The N1 is much better looking and has stock Android which is a big plus.
I hope they will keep on updating it, eventually to Marshmallow, since after all it's stock Android...

It's very helpful - thank you. The info about the build number suggests that the software is original. Someone here said their tablet was rooted, but I suspect they were mistaken. I missed the part in Expansys' catalog stating that they open the boxes for inspection, that makes it much less suspicious.
The tablet is impressive for the price. Build quality, thinness, performance, wireless specs, battery life. I guess that's why I'm questioning - because it looks like it falls into the "too good to be true" category.
Would love to buy a docking station that takes full advantage of the Nokia N1, whatever it offers from the Type C port out of the box or can be hacked. This press release for a dock reference design specifically mentions the N1 tablet, but I suspect because it was one of the earliest devices and not because the dock is optimized for the N1.

Yeah, I'd say he's simply wrong. And I'm a careful guy -- first thing I did after I got my new N1 running was to install AIDA64 (a free HW-analysis app; look for it in the Play Store). It confirmed that the device was not rooted.

Expansys append something like that ('Note that the box will be opened...') for a large number of listings. I guess we can assume they get their stock from a wide variety of sources and under varying circumstances.

LOL I know, right? This thing is just astonishing value for money -- a super device at an unbeatable price. Except for the disappointing camera and (so far) lack of Android v5.1.1, I'm 110% happy with my purchase.

Yep, that would be a neat accessory, for sure. Well, you never know; it's pretty clear Nokia see their future with Android devices, so maybe we can look forward to an upgraded 'N2' tablet, using the same shell.

Couldn't agree more.
The N1 is delightful in it's simplicity, with vanilla Android and elegant design. Nokia took the iPad Mini's basic look and improved it; rounding those famously 'chamfered edges' gives much better feel in the hand.

Any news for VoLTE on ZE551ML?

Hi everyone, do you have any news when this phone will get VoLTE?
All the deserving devices from other manufacturers have got the update.
ze551ml deserves VOLTE and naugat update.
They can't just abandon ze551ml.
I think VoLTE is not supported on the Intel CPU or something, so no way to have VoLTE on the 551ML, never, hardware impossible.

Global and Chinese version?

I know there is international version can be bought in Hong Kong, with all assets against Chinese.
However, it is much easier for me to ro get Chinese... Maybe it will be also cheaper, but it is second story.
My question is if will be possible to install global fw in China phone?

Short answer. Nope. At least not now.
O must see prices of both. Generally, China phones localisation is not so poor, with some work, one ca adopt is enough. I have now honor note 10, same work...
I hope it would be possible to unlock BL and root and de_chinise it.

So I live in China. I was just at the Huawei store an hour ago. And I had the same question; Can I eventually put the International rom on the Chinese version?
All I can say is that right now, the easiest way to do that is to buy the phone in Hong Kong for example.
But the problem is that they sell the 128Gb/6G RAM for almost 200 USD more than the price you get the Mate pro 8GB RAM/256 GB version in China..
I think I'll go with the Chinese version, waiting to switch the rom at some point.
PS: If installing the google suite is not possible by allowing apks of unknown source
I afraid this will never work...
but thankes. key is price difference. i will also go on al00
Not to mention the global version only comes in the blue color. I didn't like that.

Oh yeah?
So just to be clear,
- DL the .apk(s) for the google suite and allowing "unknown sources" from the mate 20 will make possible to have the google apps?
It seems too easy to be true, but maybe you're right, I have no idea.
I just want to make sure that I won't buy it to realize that this won't work.
Returning anything here in China is a real pain, even on the same day

I've always thought that ROMs were interchangeable, as long as the hardware was the same.

"Honor", or a TOTAL ABSENCE OF, to be more accurate. They didn't even update my P8 Lite 2017 more than just one MINOR update, in a whole 14 months of ownership.
Vote with your feet and walk away.

Hah, that's if you EVER get that far!?
They seem to have this utterly retarded "exclusivity" mindset, regarding their Beta update testing. The way they guard limit enrollment is SO ridiculous, you'd think that they were offering limited edition seats on Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic inaugural flight to space ... or something ??
Huawei, WAKE UP, it's just a Beta test for your overrated, wannabe, chintzy phones. If YOU WANT to catch up with major Western brands or even get CLOSE to competing with the likes of Apple in reputation and showing your customers some HONOR (yes I know, ironic name isn't it), it's time you woke the #### up, drop the pretentious facade, and behaved like a sensible company.
By the way, "Honor", your TrustPilot rating is 1/10... verified by the two calls I made to you, to get my BRAND NEW tpu gel case, which YOU SUPPLY with my phone, replaced, as it went cloudy within TWO MONTHS. I called for the first time, to "test the water" so to speak, to see how you handled a call regarding a free accessory worth around $0.50 ... couldn't even handle that could you, lmao, palmed me off and told me to "buy another one from a different retailer"....
erm... Okay... you may have jusssssst missed the point. I'll never put my £££ in your coffers again. Silly Huawei.

My brother got it and asked me if it is safe to update, i told to wait for few days.
Its not only the user who are registering for beta will get, he never did but received one directly on OTA without beta app.
He is on global ROM btw

I had the same issue, fixed it by going to my Huawei ID in the Settings and enabling the Cloud service, or you can just enable some Huawei ID related stuffs, trial and error. Don't forget to clear data of the app after doing so.

Huawei Mate 20X International or Chinese version - plz help.

Hi All,
Am in the confusion in selecting MATE 20X international / Chinese version?
Please help me.. am interested in getting 8gb 256gb version but it is Chinese version.. Am from India.. Don't know Chinese.. I saw in YouTube video people are showing many Chinese apps.. whether can we remove it?? Thanks in advance...
Regards,
Arularasu N
Get the International version.
The Chinese version will most likely end up frustrating you. The international version just works, no tinkering or rooting needed.

Looking for more ram and space for future proof, so thinking much..
I have 2 units Mate 20 X AL00 ... just use the ADB method to debloat all the bloatware apps... Honestly, i don't feel the need to get the International Version of this phone... All of my phones were Chinese version, since they update it much more faster ... also, i don't use any of my phone in other language rather than english... so basically, chinese version is what i have been buying...

I have also ordered the 8/256GB china version so I will be following this thread
I am interested in changing the stock launcher to nova prime and getting the Google apps and WhatsApp notifications working properly if possible
Most of the other stuff wouldn't really bother me but if I can debloat the chinese stuff that's even better!

Ordered from shopee to the Philippines
Should be delivered shortly
The global mate 20 pro just went on sale today and it's cheaper to buy locally with a warranty than the 20 X is to buy from China
I thought about cancelling but the mate 20 pro doesn't really appeal to me ( except waterproof + 40w charger aspect )
I prefer the 7.2" screen, capacitive fingerprint reader and 8/256 over 6/128 ,bigger battery and flat screen (don't like curved glass ) so I think there isn't anything else that can compete with the m20X right now and there may not be for awhile
I wish there was 8/256 EVR-L29

There might be for the M30X but I didn't want to wait that long and ordered the China 8/256 one
Get rid of the Huawei/Chinese crap and install Google equivalents and you will have a great phone regardless
If you're in China then get the Chinese version. However, if you're living anywhere else then get the international version.
You won't notice the difference.
You're welcome!
