TWRP Available for OnePlus 8 Pro - OnePlus 8 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

[Mod Edit] Link removed as explained in announcement
Seems that TWRP is available for OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. I can't read Chinese but it seems to work fairly well based on another user's post on XDA and on the OnePlus forums.

I can vouch for it, I've had it installed for at least a week, flashed kernels and did nandroid backups

So I suppose I gotta ask why isn't there a legit version of this for us ? What is it about the Chinese version that makes aftermarket recovery work now?

A heads up regarding this, I used it before and all worked great until today when I tried to restore my previous backup. I ended up getting stuck on a "dm-verity device corrupted force dump kernel restart" message after a reboot, factory reset didn't help I had to reflash the full Oxygen image.

Tested. Working perfectly so far ..
Thanks for this.

Good to know thanks I was going to delete my lock screen take a back up and restore to make sure it was 100% functional cause I to have had in for about a week and half just used it to flash some stuff nothing much else.

Hi everyone. I'm closing this one for an involuntary GPLv3 violation. More info: [Mandatory] XDA-Developers and the GPL
We understand that this is a helpful share but until we see the source code of these Chinese TWRP releases, we're keeping all links away from XDA. This is merely a precaution that benefits the security of our users. We would also like to avoid getting in trouble with the utmost respected Team Win Thank you for understanding. Useful feedback is welcome via PM.

Install instructions

Upgrade from official Lineage OS 14.1 possible but as usual clean install is better. Good time to wipe that phone clean.
Please update TWRP to the latest. If you have this device and don't know how to install please follow above procedure.
If you have device encryption enabled, consider removing as its a bit touch and go. As usual always have a full backup and separate copy of your data/pictures.
And the caveat you are responsible for what you do with your device applies and no one else is responsible for your action. People may be able to help if you ask kindly.
Official channel released finally on the 18th of July 2018.
Super effort by Devs specially jrior001, so please donate if you can.
PS I am just making this thread as there is none and it was released atleast 6 days ago and in no way taking any credit for the ROM or the work done by DEVS.

I am sure you are joking but for those who dont know its 3.2.1-0

Please select appropriate file and upgrade as image. If you dont know which file to use it means you need to read up more.
Is that cyanogenmods website some kind of fan site? It doesn't look official.
Kernel
Is anybody working on the included Kernel?
The background of my question is that I am experiencing spontaneous reboots when physically leaving a Wi-Fi connection, particularly my home Wi-Fi.
This defect was present in LineageOS 14.1 as well. There I could solve the problem completely by installing the latest Franco Kernel. However, in LineageOS 15.1 the Franco Kernel leads to very frequent soft reboots, like 5 in one hour, so I am now back on the stock kernel.
The only workaround I know is to disable Wi-Fi before leaving a Wi-Fi area, then re-enabling it.
Before other users jump in and state that they don't have this defect, not everybody has it. It is not clear under which conditions the defect shows up. It may depend on certain apps being present. But obviously it is not the apps' fault, as the fact proves that the Franco Kernel resolved it in LineageOS 14.1. Not to mention that no app has the right to reboot the system.

NetGuard via VPN is not working for me. Under 14.1 was everything ok.
Hardware buttons backlighting is very dim for me even when set up to 100% brightness.

Any way to try out LOS without installing it on a phone ?

Hi
I have a Honor 5X (kiwi / KIW-L21) as my daily driver and as its nearing the end of it warranty (2 years) its starting to run slower (good job, Huawei). Given this and the fact that during these two years i never received ANY update apart from an update to android 6.0.1 from android 5, im considering switching to LOS 16.
The thing is im completely new to custom ROMs, recovery, phone rooting and that jazz and im a bit scared.
I wanted to know if there is a way I can try out LOS 16 (say for example on a VM) to be sure that i like it before installing.
If not, would I be able to restore my phone back to its current OS in case i dont like LOS and want to fall back to EMUI ?
PS : I wanted to try it out on an older phone I have and for which i dont care as much, but its not supported :'( Its an Asus Zenfone go ZB552KL
Thanks in advance !
The oldphone approach is a good idea. Go to a recycling place and grab some old Motorola or Samsung phones. Broken screen is OK.

My local trash collecting place isn't very open to people who want to take stuff (yes, what a nonesense) but i'll try that i guess. The thing is we have like 3 or 4 old phones but none of them are listed as compatible on the LOS website

You don't need official. Search XDA and you will find unofficial lineageOS for many old phones. https://twrp.me/Devices/ is a good place to find the phone's code name. With that you can check stats.lineageos.org for popular ROM versions.
Will give it a look, thanks.
If nothing usefull comes out of this investigation and I end up doing it on my 5X, is there a way for me to backup the whole phone (i mean not just data, like the whole OS) that way I can fall back to its current state if something goes wrong / i dont like LOS ?

To be honest, there's various ways for backing up a whole device but, there's limited (possibly no) choices that all depends upon the device itself and the capabilities of said device. So there's no real way of answering this question without, also, taking under consideration that what works for one may/may not work for another.
With that stated...
I've always found that the only way to know if I like something as huge as updating the Custom Android version Firmware, is to "Hope for the Best and Prepare for the Worse".
I've been successful with Restoring TWRP Backups made but, have always had an (approximately) 50% +/- of a restoration working without any issues (a chance of requiring a fresh installation in the end).
In another words...
The only "recommended" way to upgrade/downgrade the LineageOS Android Versions is to make sure you have everything on hand for performing a fresh installation for both the upgrading and the downgrading of both Android Versions.
For anyone to guide you any other way should (ethically) be able to provide you with guidance in case something goes wrong in the process (of said guidance) with your specific device.
You should also ask for support and guidance within the LineageOS thread and, if needed, somewhere within the Device Dedicated Area of the forum that's specific to your device. This will help locate assistance from those who has your device as well.
For example...
[ROM][9.0.x] LineageOS 16.0 Official (kiwi) [NO VoLTE] by BadDaemon
[ROM] [9.x] LineageOS 16.0 Pie Unofficial for Honor 5x (kiwi) by coldhans
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x
I hope that I had explained this okay via text...
I wish you the best of luck!

Unless asked to do so, PLEASE don't PM me regarding support. Sent using The ClaRetoX Forum App on my Apple Macintosh.

Hi there, thanks for the answer and sorry for the delayed reaction, I was busy
I will investigate on the linked threads and see what I want to do after that. My main concern being fingerprint sensor gestures (I know, stupid habits lol) asking on the kiwi forum is definitely a good idea. Same things for installing TWRP and the recovery, someone there would probably be able to help.
Thanks a lot for your time

MIUI 11 Android 10 MI8SE

here is link : http://bigota.d.miui.com/9.10.23/miui_MI8SE_9.10.23_6d4456e604_10.0.zip
Thanks for the link.
Just a FYI, this makes the device SAR (system-as-root), so if anyone wants to flash GSI afterwards, use "AB" images instead of "A-only" that we've been using. I've booted PHH's Q just fine (whitelist needed, see here).
Thanks, could you share the download page itself?
Any fastboot link for 9.10.23?
@AndyYan
These past few days I've been trying to boot the Q GSI on this phone. I've also been keeping an eye on the Telegram GSI channel and there are many other users trying to do the same thing. I think though that you're the only one that got it boot, we're all having the same problem where it's stuck at the mi splash screen and keeps rebooting. I think it'd be really appreciated and a great help to the community if you started a thread with a guide on how to install it. Although, I suspect you're pretty busy so if you don't feel like creating a thread please consider sharing the steps you've followed and I'm pretty sure when one of us gets it to work we'll take it up.
Thanks.

I'd love to, but unfortunately I actually hit the same problem as you described on all subsequent boots, i.e. I only managed to get it properly booting once. Very disappointing isn't it...
I also had my 8SE sold just a few days ago, so I couldn't do any further tests on it either.
Sorry if what I said gave you false hopes... I wish y'all could get it to boot eventually. After all, Pie GSIs run quite nicely on the device.

Greetings @roberto_1986,
Your choice between A9 and A10 will summarize easily. Do you need one of the new features provided on A10 which was not present on A9 version? If you do not know or if you are not sure, then you dont need A10, stick to A9 for now. Less bugs, better performance and battery life. OS is more mature.
Now regarding rooting, on A9 Rom nothing as easy as pressing the root button under the LR TWRP (1104 version for A9 1210 for A10), then pressing the Closing AVB 2.0 button and you are done. From there you can update to latest stable version within the OS (do not use the beta ones, no point using those and it did not work for me). Works like a charm. I am on MIUI 11.0.2.0 (A9) EEA and never had any kind of issues using this method a few times. I never tried the A10 version of the LR TWRP so I have no idea if they offer the same option for rooting on A10 or not.
You can also unroot from that same LR TWRP in case that would be required at some point.
Hope this helps.

I am unsure if OFFICIAL TWRP 3.4.0 is meant for A10, I suggest you to read their its thread to see if people are using it on A10 or not. Personally I installed it yesterday on A9 and it saved my day restoring a backup made with some other UNOFFICIAL TWRP.
The UNOFFICIAL LR TWRP (chinese/english) which was released last year is the version which includes the rooting ability for A9 (and maybe for A10 too). OFFICIAL TWRP does not have such additional goodies since it is the OFFICIAL branch of TWRP.
You can check this guide using the UNOFFICIAL LR TWRP to root device, ALL steps you need to take to root your device properly are explained here. That's for A9, not A10.
[GUIDE][BEGONIA]Unlock Bootloader, Flash TWRP and Root[PROPER]
Note a quick search within forums would have probably leaded you there, try it next time, that's helpful feature of forums
As for the UNOFFICIAL LR TWRP (by wzsx150) thread for P and Q you can find it there:
[RECOVERY][begonia][UNOFFICIAL by wzsx150][P/Q]TWRP recovery for Redmi Note 8 Pro
Rooting A9 from the LR TWRP 1104 is guaranteed to work. That's what I used myself. As for A10 (Q) I have no idea, check/ask the thread.
Let us know how it turns out and you did to make it work.
Good Luck!

That's very wise not to install stuff you find from internet from unknown sources.
Not sure how you found that website, but I never heard of it or even seen it for the matter. I would not consider it safe myself.
I used to be able to download stuff from MiFirm which *looked* more legit but who knows.
You can find the required files from the xda threads I posted above, it may come from individuals, but I do consider it safer somehow because we have feedback from xda users. Back then when we installed those unofficial version there were not official support of any kind anyway so we kind of had to be 'advanturous'. I dont even remember from where I got mine myself.
Best I can do for you is to provide you with the checksums of the file I did use to root my A9 and reflashed not so long ago.
Code:
$ md5sum recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-1104-REDMI_NOTE8PRO-CN-wzsx150.img
e41bba28984f14ea56da98448cd2c17d *recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-1104-REDMI_NOTE8PRO-CN-wzsx150.img
$ sha256sum recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-1104-REDMI_NOTE8PRO-CN-wzsx150.img
8f203aec69f1ed021badac0f94d1906fcf0530f0e41beddcbc49652705c8731b *recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-1104-REDMI_NOTE8PRO-CN-wzsx150.img
This way whatever source you are getting the file from you'll be able to check it against my sums which will guarantee you got the same version I did use. However I cannot guarantee they are 'legit'.
Before you proceed any further, I want to stress you never told me the flavor of the phone you own. Mine is Global EU phone flavor running an original stock MIUI.11.0.2.0_A9_PGGEUXM. If own a Chinese flavor (ordered on Alibaba, Aliexpress etc etc) you need to be extra cautious for example as they tend to brick more from what I read.
I also remind you need an unlocked bootloader and I strongly recommend you to apply the Anti-Brick solution as described in my previous post. If you restored to stock image using MiFlash or SP Flash Tools it is very likely you need to reapply those even if you did it before. Best to apply them twice than none.
Hope this helps.

The Megathread is pretty much self explanatory for the Anti-Brick method, I cannot explain it any better than how it is explain there. Please refer to the link given in one of my previous posts and just apply the first part with flashing preloader.bin and lk.img as explained.
It will basically provide you with a safety belt in case you do anything wrong with your phone on A9 resulting in bricking the device, bootloop or whatever, so you can Flash stock back on using MiFlash / SP Flash Tool without having to need an authorized account.

This file might not be there, it is a file you have to delete to prevent OS to restore Mi Recovery 3 over your TWRP at reboot (making impossible to have TWRP stick on the phone).
In order to see that file you first need to mount 'system' in the options but as I said it is not always there.

Kindly elaborate pls,, Anti-brick solution,,
I'm on stock unrooted but with unlocked bootloader Indian version running 11.0.4.(QGGINMX) - A10.
I Hard bricked my last note 8 pro trying to root n luckily the Mi Service provided me brand new device but finishing warranty on new device,,, so I didn't risk rooting on new device for last 6-7 or so months though I unlocked bootloader as of then ,, (just in case ), now is there any safe method on A10,, link plz

As I said earlier, I have no experience in A10 (Q) problems as I am not willing to jump in there staying on A9 (P).
A10 benefits is not worth the risks to me. The Anti-brick method is well explained in the Megathread I posted the link few posts earlier, however, it's for A9 only not A10.
Looking at the lists of bugs still present on A10, I really see no point running A10 atm. But well anyone does what pleases him/her he he
Good Luck!

It used to pass before, at least it was when I first installed it. Then google made some updates and it is not passing anymore. I am not an expert about that, but I know there are some threads where people are talking about this particular thing.
What is it useful for?

I see.
No actually it was the other way around. When I first rooted in Feb it was passing both tests (green true).
Then one day after google made its changes it stopped working. But I only retro-graming so it is not so important for me.
Have you tried MagiskHide for the games you want to play with?
I cannot really help you with this further because I never tried to fix these myself not really needing to.
Anyway if you search Redmi Note 8 Pro forums you will see some other people are having the issue, at first I thought it was a A10 problem but probably is with the device.
Also you may found help in the telegram group REDMI NOTE 8 PRO OFFICIAL many gamers there I think.
Good luck and please let us know of your findings.

General [WIP] Porting LineageOS 20 to the Oneplus 11

We all know the path OnePlus/Oppo went with development, MSM Tools and all, and I want to make it clear and short : I'm going to work on this phone no matter what. The OnePlus 10 series were a failure in this regard and I don't want the OnePlus 11 to experience the same.
I've been in this space for quite some years now, since Xperia X10 times and Android 2.3, and my last device has been a OnePlus 8 Pro that have provided me great service. Sadly, the battery is slowly dying and I can't bring myself to purchasing a phone I cannot tamper with. I've always loved OnePlus and I have hard times considering anything else.
If you're a developer, just wave at me using this thread. We need to know each other and work together to bring something to this phone. The obvious path would be to at least get a TWRP and a basic kernel built. I absolutely want to get to a LineageOS build.
If you're not a dev, but you have deep understanding on how fastboot, bootloader, and all else means, you can be a tester. I haven't bought the OnePlus 11 yet but I'm going to work on it and acquire it if some of you follow me.
If you're nether of these, you can still share the thread to other people to raise awareness.
I'll likely create a Telegram conversation if we get to a few devs. If you're interested in working on the OnePlus 11, please post a reply
@dekefake I've changed the prefix of your thread from "Development", for which it doesn't qualify, to "General"; do not revert that! Prior to your next posting, please read all announcements and guidances that are stuck at the top of every forum like
My phone android 8 m27 3 16 401 2v201U241a...
PS6IMG_PERF[email protected]60331.4_41.13_F_release_477358_combined_signed_2_4.zip...
forum.xda-developers.com
For example, you'll certainly easily recognise that only threads with own development qualify for the prefix "Development", and this doesn't apply to this thread.

And a remark to your above statement: Regarding social media links please observe that as an exemption from the last bullet of rule no. 5 of the XDA Forum Rules, we grant only developers the privilege to share references to their social media in their own development threads and if thorough support is provided in the thread. Additional information is also available here:

WhatsApp/Telegram Groups and Channels - Going Forward Hello XDA family! Just notifying all members that posting certain links to Telegram and other sites like WhatsApp is now allowed on XDA. What does that mean? We will allow links to messages...

Not necessarily... It's still better and more practical without pc. But adb is good also

Yes that's true, TWRP isn't really necessary anymore, but I feel like this small step would be quite a good start. Either way, having LineageOS booting is the most important and challenging task.

Lol yeah I really hope some devs and testers will join me on this.
Right. Able to boot lineage is the most important thing. Everything can be fixed with time.

oneplus 11 twrp install guide: https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1Gv4y1r7Gv/
I develope the app and also update the video above.
Oneplus roms collection: https://op.daxiaamu.com (yes I maintained it)
I just pre-ordered the 11 and was lucky because I got a 100 Amazon gift card from Amazon so I can get a case and screen protectors I just hope we can get a working root soon I held off on upgrading my 8t because of lack of dual sim in us now one plus gave us dual sim and a bonus of esim so I can't wait as I use both sim slots I have a cheap plan on my main line and I get free unlimited data on my second sim which I need both so I'm happy
TWRP is necessary for NANDroid Backups, I'll join testing if come out.
Mine will be here Thursday. The sooner I can root / debloat etc, the better. I'm no dev, but I will be here testing.

Okay nice. I don't think I'll try to build a TWRP first then. I may try to build a LineageOS build directly. Does someone here dumped an OxygenOS OP11 partition table including partition paths, names, and exact sizes ?
Okay well, I expected more engagement with this thread, and maybe some help..
Is there someone here with a rooted OnePlus 11 ? Or at least with unlocked BL ?

Awesome !
To avoid any soft brick in the future while testing builds, we'd need to know exactly which fastboot features are enabled and which are not, starting with fastboot boot.
Could you please dump your recovery.img and boot.img, and try to fastboot boot each of them to confirm the phone is booting normally sideloading the boot.img, and booting in recovery correctly when sideloading recovery.img ?
Also, I currently have no idea of the partition layout of the OnePlus 11, is it the same as the OnePlus 8 Pro, or if things changed since then, it would be a good thing to dump information about the partition table, possibly using fastboot enhance. I've read in some other threads that someone needed to patch a partition called "init_boot", weighting 8mb, so maybe the kernel now resides in two different partitions : init_boot being the ramdisk and zImage being elsewhere. The best would be to gather more info about the partition table before trying any fastboot sideloading.
To begin, please install a terminal emulator, and type :
Bash:
su
ls -als /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/ >> /sdcard/fstab.txt
Please upload the created fstab.txt file here
