(Question) Active Edge/Squeeze gestures support for any rom. - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

The world of development on pixel 2 XL devices is huge, I have gotten used to turning on the flashlight by pressing the edges of my phone with AOISP rom, the problem is that I cannot change rom due to almost no developer includes the Active Edge code by Google licenses. Is there any way that I can install it through Magisk / Xposed, or anything on a rom that doesn't support it? I want to change to a rom that supports face unlock. From already thank you very much. And I thank with all my support to the developers, who do an amazing job, greetings from Argentina.

I think the only rom that still has faceunlock and active edge is pixeldust. It's a Motorola feature that is being pulled because they put up a stink over it.
Roms with active edge are abc, dirty unicorns and aosip

I install that rom thinking the same thing, but it doesn't support Active edge of any kind.

It's a bug that should be fixed today if you're talking about pixeldust. Normally it has it

Yes, I read the comments. I know very little English, and I did not understand specifically what I must do so that the pixeldust rom allows me to use active edge

Usually it would be found in a pixel gestures category. In Dirty Unicorns it's found in multitasking

PixelDust has a working ActiveEdge that you can remap to do any action that you want. I currently have it set to squeeze for screenshots.

Forgot about Bliss, it has both as well

Choosing custom ROM

Hey guys. Time to switch custom for me and at the moment I"m choosing between RR vs Dirty Unicorns vs Nitrogen. Really need help choosing (comments, experience, pros and cons). I know, I can flash all of them and choose, but first I don't want to spent so much time and 2nd it's always better to start with best one.
Thanks.

Even if you found someone who will bite, "best" is based on your own criteria. In my case I liked AquariOS the best but that's just me. I'm actually back on stock as I dig the squeeze function and the easy monthly updates. Once I get tired of stock again I'm sure I'll be back on AquariOS as it was rock solid and fit me like a glove. Just my 2 cents...

It's hard to say which Rom is best , only way to find out which one you prefer is to flash and see. I've tried Aquarios , Dirty Unicorns, Nitrogen , and am currently on Pixel Dust , which is a really nice rom too., i really like how it comes with Black amoled theme ... all are very good roms and you can't go wrong with any of these ,I also really wanna give Resurrection Remix a run too, as that was one of my favorites on my galaxy s5 days , but i'm on may security patch , so patiently waiting for an update for that rom and Aquarios . :good:

I've only run DU, but can tell you it is solid. DU coupled with Flash kernel and I haven't run into an issue yet that wasn't user error, get around 5 hrs SOT, but I'm on it a lot
That said, cust Roms are like batt life; the best, most accurate comparison is done on your own device, using your individual setup.
This is the 1st phone that I am completely content to stay on stock with custome kernel with Xposed.
Xposed Edge, Android Pify, uniformed transitions and gravity box will give you all if not more features.
For themeing Substratum + andromeda.
Plus xprivacy to block analytics from facebook, instagram, etc...
Adaway + youtube vanced. Plus active edge app customization with edge sense plus.

You should have a poll option for "All of the above"! That's my vote...

I've heard there's quite many fc's and other minor error. Is it good as daily driver?

I've been using P as my daily driver since March. DP2 is really good. There are a few quirks like Visual Voicemail not working but overall its a solid daily driver IMO

Full OMS support, fully functioning Now Playing, Carbon gestures to name a few.
Dev preview 3 drops in a couple days, I'm guessing mid next week if you want to wait a bit for a more stable release.
The things for me are all the usability improvements; volume slider, gestures, etc

Flash kernel
Quick settings is a combination of
"nougat / oreo quick settings" to add specific tiles
"Substratum + subtweaks" - to change how many tiles are in the drop down quick settings
"SystemUI tuner" to change the number of quick settings in the first row when there are notifications in the pulldown.

Xposed edge is an app that requires xposed framework. The app has so many things it can do. I use it for gestures.
Edge sense is working on stock oreo. Not sure about P.
Here are a couple.photos of how the gestures I have setup.
There is never a navbar on screen so the whole screen is used.

Looking to go Googleless while keeping faceunlock and Dash Charge

Hello all.
I have been looking around and cannot find exactly what I am looking for and was hoping somebody can point in the right direction.
I am looking to go "googleless" on my 5T, which I know is quiet easy to do.
My main question is, if there is a ROM for the 5T that offers the same / extremely close performance for faceunlock, fingerprint sensor and DASH charge?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the recommendation, is it an OOS fork of some kind?
The reason I ask is because I want to keep the OOS features as mentioned but want a clean install

Yes, it's based on 8.1 Oreo and I believe it's and EAS build and Micro G supported. You can pretty much go googless with the alternative apps suggested all while staying pretty close to OOs. There is a Telegram support group on the initial page that can help you with all the apps and rom info.

Faceunlock is not available on custom ROM unless you use the one by Google.
If you want to keep all OOS features without google, you can use this guide : https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...crog-deodex-signature-spoofing-t3862961/page3

Overlay APK for Treble GSI users

For those very few who unlocked the bootloader of their 7.1 (e.g. through HikariCalyx), and want to enjoy Treble GSIs, this should help sweeten the experience a bit more.
This overlay was taken almost directly from PHH's overlay for Nokia 6.1 Plus, a very similar device, but the notch/cutout outline was replaced with one extracted from stock 7.1 ROM. As a result, it fixes notch (GSIs don't have notch provision by default), enables Always-on Display, fixes lowest screen brightness (?) and maybe does other things, I can't be 100% sure, but fixing the notch alone was good enough for me.
Just shove the attached APK into /vendor/overlay, set permissions 0644, reboot and voila.
And yeah, since this forum seems kinda desolate, I'll also attach a screenshot of the device running LOS16 GSI (self-built, not shared) below. It's actually quite usable, as far as I can tell the only device-related bug is that you'd need to eject/reinsert SIM on every reboot for the SIM to be recognized. Many LineageOS additions (e.g. Styles, LiveDisplay, Profiles) are broken (reason why I won't share the GSI at the moment), and Substratum currently errors out, but if you use AEX, PE, etc. and don't care about Substratum, then GSIs are in a good status.
That's nice @AndyYan,
please keep sharing progress, I'm interested to know when LineageOS for the 7.1 can be considered stable. (Not that I am really disappointed by the original ROM, it checks all boxes for me tbh)

I've already resolved aforementioned problem with the LOS-specific features and will post a thread in the Treble development subforum about it shortly.
To me, all that's left is Substratum. I can easily live with the rest.

I bought mine pre-unlocked, but you should contact Hikari Calyx about it.
Here's an updated version of the overlay that defines proper top/bottom rounded corners and landscape mode statusbar height - this would make the top corners show as rounded (instead of straight cut-off) when you choose "hide notch" in Developer options and simply looks natural.

Hey mate,
Treble with Samsung is always a bit icky in my experience. Personally, don't try it yet.
The A50 has a Pie vendor, and yes, it does have Treble. Every phone shipped with an OS past 8.0 will have it. I had this convo on Telegram, I say it's best to wait, or if you're curious, try one of phh's GSI's. Pixel Experience would best work on the A50 with it's own device tree, which as far as this has been posted, isn't available. It's a waiting game.
As I say to a lot of people, if you bought a new Samsung to enjoy AOSP, you bought the wrong phone.
Yeah you're right. But I like stock android. I would've installed it but I'm scared it won't support the in display fingerprint and face unlock and various things.

I understand, and I do too. For in display fingerprint to work, you'll need the tree and a rom that can support it. Face unlock, iris unlock and others are lost due to lack of Google support.

Question Can you guys help me pick a stock android 12 rom to flash?

My Poco f3 is my daily driver and I can't test lots of rooms rn and I was wondering if you guys tested different roms and would be so kind as to recommend a rom. My most important feature is to be able to unlock just by fingerprint touch or press (as in without the need to double tap/wake up the screen first). Also a totally black (not gray) dark mode is important
Thank you in advance

Yeah features and customization without diminishing stability or battery life
I use Evolution X but it's Android 13.
It has a Black Mode and lots of customization. It's a Pixel ROM so it also has Pixel-exclusive system apps and features. I can recommend it It also receives frequent updates and has a big community on Telegram.
The question is, do you want a simple AOSP ROM or a Pixel ROM with more features and customization.

Yeah more features and customization as long as its stable and has a good battery life. I kind of disregarded A13 bc I assumed it won't be perfected yet but I'll check it out now. Can you unlock from a black screen just by taping the fingerprint scanner?

Yes, this is the default behaviour when having set-up a Fingerprint.
Doesn't every ROM do this by default? I think even MIUI. You can also configure to only scan for Fingerprint when Screen on, on Evolution-X too.

Probably yeah. its just that the last few roms I tested on my last device you had to turn screen on first. possibly bc they were early releases and scanner was under display but I gave up on stock android ever since mainly bc of that so I'm sure
