EVR-L29 Enable VoLTE - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

Is it possible to enable VoLTE when it's not enabled by default. I just bought this phone and I don't see the setting.
Thank you

Settings-Cellular Network-Mobile Data.
However, it must be supported by your Provider, otherwise it will not be displayed.

It's not there...that's strange 20 Pro is supported but 20X isn't

Which Provider?
I use "3" in Austria.
With Yesss (A1) does not work but with "3" works.

Vodafone Czech Republic

It depends on simcard visit simcard customer care and replace simcard to volte enabled sim. Thats what i did when it didn't worked.

It worked on OnePlus 8 which I previously had. So I think sim card is not a problem

I have a Mate 20 with the same issue. VoLTE doesn't works on T-Mobile and is a software issue related to Huawei. Lots of people are having the same issue:
I Just made a post on Huawei Forums for see if we can report the issue. The more the people reports that increases the chances that this can be fixed:

https://consumer.huawei.com/en/community/details/topicId_120349/

Anyone get any clarity on this issue? I have AT&T in the United States and my IEMI was targeted for shut off today. After going a few rounds, they turned it back on but told me there was no way to prevent future pre-emptive shut offs because me EVR-L29 does calling over 3G which sends an automatic kill message. Further, as many have described, there is no switch to enable VoLTE in my settings. Are there other larger (7" plus) Chinese phones that are 4G LTE calling? Is there a way to address this issue with the EVR-L29? Thanks.

Honor 6X supports Dual card Dual standby

Honor 6X supports only dual card dual standby single pass, which means you cannot use both SIM cards for calls or data services simultaneously.
When you are on a call using SIM card 1, SIM card 2 cannot be used to make or answer calls. If someone calls SIM card 2, the caller will hear a voice message
similar to "The subscriber you dialed is out of the service area" or simlar to that depending on your service provider.
Similarly when you are using SIM card 1's data service, SIM card 2's data service will be disabled.
Why Single Pass ?
Honor 6X single pass feature helps reduce power consumption and increase the phone's standby time.

As you have mentioned JIO, I would like to confirm once whether you are using JIO voice app for outgoing call (LTE voice Call) ?
Bcos, while we are having outgoing call from JIO voice app, If we get any incoming call in 2nd SIM, the JIO data is disconnected which disconnects the call through it.
If we reject the call in that other SIM, then JIO network gets connected and JIO calls gets re-connected (If the intermediate time is less)

Agreed. just tested this..havent came across such situation earlier and got call only once when I was on call on Jio sim. Yes, I use jio4voice app as this is VOLTE phone but doesnt support the jio Volte yet (Chinese variant)

The same happens with my Honor 5X too. That's why confirmed.
Also, I need to know one thing. VoLTE is different for different networks or regions?

VOLTE work with Jio app only and not regular dialer...seems because its Chinese version and not compatible. heard that Letv also has same issue but was resolved with software update. once we have Indian version binaries out, we will try to upgrade and see.

a peculiar problem about VoLTE

hi all, i have a quite peculiar query about VoLTE on my 8 Pro.
i have 8 Pro for about 3 weeks now. i am using Airtel and Jio sims in it. both are 4G enabled. i am able to use Jio VoLTE without any problems since day 1 on this phone. Recently airtel started VoLTE in my region (Chhattisgarh) but i haven't been getting VoLTE option when i selected airtel as default sim for data. but when jio sim was selected as default data sim VoLTE was properly showing. i removed jio sim and tried again with airtel. still no VoLTE. i contacted airtel service center and they informed that it should be available in a day or two. so i waited for few days. meanwhile i saw a list of compatible handsets on airtel's website and there is no Huawei/Honor phone there. there are only handful phones which support airtel VoLTE.
after so many days of airtel launching VoLTE i am still unable to get it on my 8 pro. while looking for the solution i came across this information that airtel has to work with the device manufacturers so that the manufacturer can provide a software patch to enable airtel VoLTE compatibility, which is happening at a very slow rate.
now what i don't understand is that why does a device need a software patch for VoLTE compatibility with a certain specific network when the device is already VoLTE enabled.? i understand it is not specifically related with 8 Pro but i didn't have any other forum to ask this. thank you...

The volte support presently is just for jio. The software has to be updated to support airtel volte and that can only be done when honor releases an update.
Volte enabled handset doesn't mean that it will work for every service provider. There are certain files that needs to be added to the software. The modem files need to be updated.

You will ned updated firmware to support Airtel VoLTE. Besides you won't going to able volte on both sims simultaneously.

i am aware that simultaneous 4g/VoLTE on both sims is not possible in most of the SoCs including Kirin 960, and that is not even my requirement. i am just curious to why firmware needs to be updated to support any particular network. if that's the normal behaviour of VoLTE then phone manufacturers should mention which networks are supported for VoLTE in their device specs.

No other careers uses VoLTE other than JIO( and now airtel in some states). That's why they configured it that way. When other career will launch VoLTE manufacturers will set it by default.
It is just like bios in pc motherboards. They update their bios to support new hardware.

that makes no sense whatsoever. if a device is 'xyz service' compatible without any region or network locking then that service should work out of the box. which network is offering which service is irrelevant for device manufacturers. it doesn't make any difference if all the networks provide any particular service or not, manufacturers' configurations ought to remain same.
and your pc motherboard analogy is completely irrelevant as well.

A Brief about VoLTE
Hi, so here's the thing. As you would be aware, VoLTE is just that, Voice over LTE. And, there's a reason as to why that terminology is used only for 4g (LTE) & not for 3g or 2g. 2g and 3g were developed with the concept of them being used for voice transmission whereas 4g (LTE) wasn't developed for simultaneous voice transmission. Hence, the term, VoLTE indicating that the voice part is an addition & not an integral part of LTE, bro.
By now, as you would have guessed, since voice is an addition, hence, there are no international standard protocols for it. Each Service Provider has their own protocols. Also, to support VoLTE, the Service Provider has to change its entire infrastructure. Hence, Airtel and Vodafone are rolling it in phases and are unable to do a national rollout.
So, to summarise, different Service Provider.....different protocols and hence, separate firmware and patches. And, to answer your final question regarding support for Jio. It's because at the time of development of most of the phones released in 2017, only data for Jio VoLTE was available and hence, the handsets are arriving with native support of Jio VoLTE
Hope, I have answered your query to your satisfaction
Huawei Honor view 10 is the only Honor device that has support for Airtel voLTE.
This is so sad that the mobile manufacturers take soooo long to work with operator and provide a patch update.
Most of the brands are more concerned about promoting their new mobile models and least concerned about giving updates to exisiting users

Not getting VoLTE on T-mobile on XT1710-06 version

Is or has anyone else been able to get VoLTE working on T-Mobile US on this model specifically? LTE and WiFi Calling work in general, but the "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode" toggle isn't there to allow VoLTE. The model has the same number of bands as the XT1710-01 model, but is on the RETLA channel, by the way.
Hi, actually I was having similar issues. VoLTE, seems to be different but is based on your Carrier mostly. If you call someone from a different carrier it may not be enabled. I'm with AT&T, whenever I call someone with AT&T and we are both with good 4g LTE, in the call, changes the status to HD. But, just with AT&T. At least that's how it Works for me. We should wait someone to confirm is this is how other carries behave.

Apologies for the late reply. Definitely no VoLTE or HD voice between me and other T-Mobile users. No matter what I tried it just never came up. If anyone's considering using this specific variant of the phone in the US, I'd be aware of the limits beforehand.

-06 is a North American dual sim variant, correct. Updates should go through ATT Mex, I believe. And yes, you can use sims from other carriers. I used one sim card when I tried it and only utilized one of the sim slots as a result. T-Mo VoLTE just doesn't seem to have been certified for that variant.
So T-Mobile WIFI calling works on this variant of the Z2 Play? If so that is good to know especially when traveling overseas even if some other advanced features don't work.
I have an XT1710-06 retla device and I can confirm that wifi calling with T-mobile does *NOT* work on my device. There is a setting to enable wifi calling, but it never seems to connect and all calls still go over mobile. This is 100% testable if I for instance go into a deep basement that has wifi but no cellular signal -- I can browse the internet but cannot make phone calls or SMS, even though I have wifi calling turned on.
This is probably related to why VoLTE doesn't work either.
Also (as mentioned in another thread) still no updates for it past February 7.1.1 update. No later security updates and no Oreo updates.

Hi,
I'm super curious how did you get your Z2 Play to have VoLTE. I 've tried everything - new sim, IMEI of ATT branded phone, activated SIM on ATT phone, etc. , to no avail. I'm so frustrated and about to get another phone, because my HSPA signal is much weaker than LTE where I'm at and constantly have missed (straight to voicemail) or dropped calls. Please, let me know how did you get it to work.
Thanks
Maybe the problem is VolTE itself. As I tested. Unless both phones are with the same carrier and working good over 4G (good signal area) you can't get it working. At least in where I live that was true for a friend's phone and mine. So VolTE was good, until signal dropped hard. But impossible to work with other carriers.
Even it was good under Lineage OS and tested with Toxyc OS, but I saw the main thing is that 4G LTE should be firstly working fine. And same for anyone you call. Otherwise call will be normal. And for 4G LTE it depends on area support too.
Sorry for late reply

Same phone (XT1710-06 retla, rooted stock ROM on Oreo), and wifi calling on Tmobile also doesn't work for me. I can enable it in Settings, but I cannot send SMS or make calls over wifi with no cell service. After a while (a few hours) I get a Moto Settings notification that it can't enable Wifi calling, with a message underneath that says "Enabling." I can't dismiss the notification, only snooze it for up to 2 hours, and after I disable wifi calling it does eventually go away after a couple days.
Your problem is because none of the XT1710 variations have the 600MHz Band 71. It is the most recently added band and very few phones currently out there support it yet. As far as the HD voice issues mentioned...both people on the call have to be using a Volte supported phone and then HD automatically activates.

Fake phone device model to network carrier

Hi,
I own an Oneplus 7T, which is VoLTE and VoWiFi enabled. Is it possible to make my network carrier believe I'm connecting with another phone model? Like a Xiaomi Redmi 10 for instance. I need my network carrier to stop disabling VoLTE and VoWifi from my subscription. It does so because I own a OP7T.
Here's the whole story...
The OP7T has two SIM slots and they are populated as so:
SIM 1: Orange Telecom (french)
SIM 2: Bouygues Telecom (french)
Orange won't recognize my phone as VoLTE or VoWifi compatible, whereas Bouygues does. I finally got in touch with a skilled employee there who told me that this is Orange's stupid politic to enable VoLTE only on phones they sell at their store! Gosh... There are some Xiaomi, Huawei, and fo course Samsung, Sony... but no Oneplus.
When I put my Orange SIM in a Samsung compatible phone, VoLTE and VoWifi work and remain ON, forever (I tried 3 weeks). If I switch to my OP7T, the VoLTE will work for 2 to 24 hours (very random) and then it turns OFF (only for the Orange SIM).
Ok, but why do I need this VoLTE and VoWifi so bad? Because I bought a Samsung Watch LTE, whose LTE option won't work if my carrier disables the VoLTE option!
=> I configure the Watch on my crappy Samsung phone, in which I've inserted the Orange SIM, and everythings works fine.
=> I put the Orange SIM in my OP7T and the Watch's LTE keeps working some hours (also the VoLTE sign is ON for SIM 1 & 2)
=> When the VoLTE sign disappears on my OP7T, for SIM 1, the Watch's LTE stops working too.
That turns me crazy... and Orange is the only carrier to provide a LTE option for my Watch so... I'm stuck. Of course, I don't want to buy another phone, this one is new
So, any way to fake my device for my carrier? Please...
Thank you!
Edit: my thread has been moved to the OP7T forum, but it does not belong here at all. That's a general Android phone question about chaing the model presented to the carrier. So I guess I'm not going to get any answer here...

Hi, thank you for the answer, however both work for both SIMs on my mobile. Also I can have LTE activated on obth SIMs at the same time, and for example keep the LTE data on on SIM2 while having a phone call on SIM1.
My issue is absolutely the one I described, which is that my carrier disable VOLTE when it recognize my mobile as being "incompatible" (so they say)

Question Unlock version from Google on AT&T in the states

I'm wanting to get the Pro in black with 256gb storage but need to know if anyone is using any unlocked version from Google (not carrier branded that had be unlocked) on AT&T network and getting volte with calls. My company pays for my work # and just gives me the SIM to use in my own phone since I don't want an iPhone that they provide. I currently use a Huawei Mate 20 X and have that SIM working along with my personal # that's on T-Mobile (dual sim phone). Unfortunately due to AT&Ts whitelist any calls made/received on that # switches to 3G, this will make my current phone unusable after they shutdown 3G this Feb.
TIA for any info
I have an unlocked 6 pro on att and I think volte is working but don't know how to verify. I know wifi calling is working which was an issue with my previous unlocked phone
Unlocked Pixel 6 Pro user with ATT here. The wifi-calling works perfect, and surprisingly the visual voicemail is enabled. It seems to work just like an ATT-based phone without the bloatware. Odd thing is you cannot change the mobile network. Read somewhere here the ATT disabled this setting for some reason when connected to their network.
HD Voice (AT&T version of VoLTE) works perfectly well, as does WiFi calling, provided of course your account is provisioned for such.

Thanks, good to know. Currently with my Mate 20 X when on a call with the AT&T line the network switches from 4G lte (when not on a call) to 3G (when on a call) then back to 4G lte after the call has ended.

I'm not who you asked, but I believe all the factory unlocked P6Ps support dual SIM via a discreet SIM card and the built-in e-SIM.

Yep it does. It shows this in Google's spec sheet page. Mind you I'm only using physical SIM. So I don't know if both will work at the same time
Another unlocked/rooted P6P working fine on AT&T here. I just sim swapped from my old phone and it worked right out of the box.
