Verizon G7 Power (XT1955-6) - Moto G7 Power Guides, News, & Discussion

So my Moto E5 Supra started smoking and almost caught on fire last week. I'd had it about a year but couldnt stand how Cricket had the bootloader locked and I couldnt root it. I decided i'd not get one of their phones and order one from Ebay.
The seller had it listed as an Unlocked G7 Power ATT/Cricket XT-1955 so I looked it up and made sure it would be rootable. It gets here, and its the XT1955-6 Verizon version. Calling works but has a constant notification of it not being a verizon sim which I could live with. But then I get on here and see it has a locked bootloader...
What can I do? I contacted the seller and he will allow me to return it. I know there arent magical workarounds for phones with locked bootloaders from going through this with the E5 Supra. I really like the phone though, so im going to order another one today from somewhere online and send this one back tomorrow. Which version is guaranteed to come with an unlocked bootloader and preferably work with GSM? I saw that 1955-5 could be flashed onto the international version and its actually cheaper and comes with more ram and space I believe. Not sure on battery size.
I want to make absolutely certain that what I get can be rooted, primarily because of how much im paying for mobile hotspot data and I enjoy the freedom. Are the international versions bootloader unlocked? I dont mind having to flash things on it or whatever in order to make it all work smoothly. Is the G7 International the way to go?
Thanks in advance!

Has the big battery if it the power

I am seeing a lot of blankflash posts and bricked devices posts. I really do like the Motos for the price, but I may just go an entirely different route. Im wondering are the International G7s bootloader unlocked? As far as the Power goes, the 1955-5 comes with an unlocked bootloader correct?

The bootloader never come unlocked u have to do it certain carryors slow them to be unlocked some carryors won't allow them .if u get one that is international one most likely u can unlock boot loader and as for the brick ones most times they did something wrong I had same feeling so I got off a chat on tellagram and people there explained things to me and got an complete guied on how to do so do not brick it

Thank you for clarifying it but I didn't mean to say come unlocked. I realize you have to go through Motorola. I just don't want to go through this same issue again. Cricket had the G7 Power but they don't allow bootloader's to be unlocked on anything of theirs.
But as far as variants that are unlockable through Motorola, do you happen to know which ones have bootloader's that are 100% able to be unlocked?
I know this doesn't matter but my OEM unlock switch I am actually able to toggle. Was on the phone with Verizon and each rep moved me up the ladder until finally they tried to tell me Motorola is the one who locks them. That may be true, but at Verizon's request I would imagine ? Lol

One other thing. I've been reading and reading on here and other places. There was a guy on here who said he was going to flash the 1955-5 firmware on his 1955-6. I'm not sure if it was exactly those words, but he seemed to think some firmware could allow it. But from what I remember, the bootloader comes before all of that and are encrypted and I feel like flashing any different firmware even if stock and signed or whatever would brick his device ..

Thumb of the rule, any branded Motorola phone won't have unlocked bootloader.
Read here
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/MOTO-G...ader-Unlock-Help-Please-post-here/m-p/3024663
if you're buying a new phone then make sure its IMEI works on Verizon first
Here
https://www.verizon.com/onedp/byod?kbid=121565#/
Edit: Once you do find that out, then make sure it's not a branded phone for Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile, MetroPcs. Normally those phones have logo's on the back and app installed on them if it's not then you might get lucky to have one which you can unlock the bootloader and still works with Verizon.
If your phone is branded then best bet to resale it and get a phone mentioned above, there is no work around to it.

LG G4 (Question, Help, & Money)

This may be kinda long but please read, I really need some actual help. I can offer a little amount of cash (Paypal) for someone to really help me to get what I want and need.
A few days ago I upgraded from a dumb flip phone that I've used for years. So the logical choice would be the new LG G4, the best phone out there as of now. So I've had it for a few days and I've noticed a few things that are really annoying me, but I'd like to focus on my main issue.
The main issue I've had is, bloatware. Now I am a computer person that if I buy a new PC / laptop, etc. I don't even use it until I reinstall Windows. I HATE bloatware more than anything, and I knew that the phone would have some bloatware that I figured I could uninstall and such. I know nothing about phones so I've been reading up and I came across the Debloater program that disables apps, which is nice but not what I want. What I want is 100% no bloat, I want the OS and drivers for the phone on the main features such as Camera, Messener+, Keyboard, etc. I don't want any extra space or ram or even the battery being used by anything besides my
regular apps.
I've tried task managers and such but even having them auto kill apps it seems that it eats my battery just as much if not worse.
I found out about rooting and ROMs in my research and from what I can tell. I need to install a custom ROM, and I believe the one that will give me what I want is CyanogenMod? I'm told its the Android OS and NOTHING more. This is what I want, but I wanna be able to still install Android updates from my phone and not having to reinstall the new version of the ROM, so I'm not sure how updating works.
I'm not sure if my phone needs to be unlocked and / or rooted to install a custom ROM? If I need to be I need someone to help me through these also.
So is there anyway that someone could lead me step by step in installing CyanogenMod? I've saw some tutorials and such but since the G4 is new everything I find on it seems kinda sketchy or really confusing, so if anyone is willing to help me on FB Chat, Team Viewer, Steam, any other messenger, PLEASE PM me ASAP. I rather not try and follow a tutorial on something this pricy, I can't buy another phone. And they never work for me it seems. Plus live person to ask questions to is something I'll need.
NOTE: I have the VS98611a model of the G4, and I have Verison right now, but I'm going to switch to Cricket since Verison removed my features like FM Radio, Themes, etc. Not way to get those back?
To do what you're asking is to require a unlocked bootloader. You're on the verizon model, and it currently doesn't have an unlocked bootloader. You'd need the h815 or the T-Mobile (I believe) models as they have unlocked bootloaders right now.
I believe cyanogen is on their final 5.1 build. As in no more updates or nightly revisions for stability. Unless I'm mistaken.
I haven't heard of an aosp Rom direct from Google being offered on anything aside from the nexus line, but I could be mistaken.

I'm ready to leave Verizon now so when I leave them it will be unlocked. So then that will take care of that, right? I really wanna get this done...
Either way there is a way to unlock them without having that model, yes? I've heard of people unlocking phones for years.
Anyway to check if mine is unlocked?
Your boot loader is locked. You can root the phone and remove most bloat. That is all you can do at this time.
There is no way to unlock the boot loader on your model.
Until a workaround is found, you have no other options. Enjoy the phone as is. It's a great phone

I'm sure Verizon will do it for me when I leave them or I can't use it for any other carrier. I could return it and buy the unlocked version. But is it really worth it?
Whats the difference between the models and which is better anyways? I think I'm going to buy the unlocked version from offline.

How do I check if its unlocked? Because I was just told that it IS INFACT unlocked. HOW DO I CHECK? Thanks.
Verizon will not care at all. They will not unlock the bootloader.
Carrier unlock is completely different.
The 815 Euro model only can be unlocked from LG. T mobile does not lock their bootloaders

How do I get my disabled features back? The FM Radio, Themes, etc. Guess Verizon got rid of them. If I leave Verison will I get them back? Or since it's a Verison phone... I don't get them?
Basically it's a Verizon phone. You don't get them.
What are all the G4 models and their carrier?
Which models are unlocked?
Which models come with ALL features?Clearly the VS986 Verizon doesn't.
The H815 is the International version?? I hear its a bloat free version and its unlocked? Does it work with carriers in the US? Cricket, Verizon, Sprint?
I don't know what to do, so many models, no one has any information.

The International H815 can be unlocked and will work on GSM carriers such as ATT or T-mobile only. Basically, if your carrier uses a SIM card, it should work.

I want all my features, no bloat, unlocked, and works with Verizon and Cricket.
Which do I need to get for this?
You can change the Network mode on the Phone, from Global, to LTE/CDMA to LTE/GSM/UMTS, so as long as the H815 has those same options, you should be able to use it with ANY carrier, Cricket, Verizon, ATT, etc. Right? Just tell me what model I need to get what my first line asks.
H815 does not work at all with CDMA, (aka Verizon/Cricket/Sprint/Boost) You're best bet is going to be rooting your phone or waiting for a bootloader unlock. (bootloader unlock might or might not ever happen) Rooting your phone will allow you to remove most of the bloatware.
Honestly, you're freaking out over nothing.
Disable any apps you don't want to see, and they'll go away forever. At this point in time, bloat is only a concern for power users who want to fine tune their phones, as a first time smart phone user you should focus only on the great new features your phone will have.

1. Verizon got rid of some of my features I'd like to use. I won't EVER be able to get this back since it's a Verizon phone.
2. I need to move to Cricket since Verizon did the above and cost more.
I'm told I can switch, but I won't know until I cancel and go to Cricket. So I wanna know what version to get and go straight to Cricket.
Just because it's my first phone doesn't mean anything. I fine tune my PC like crazy and it runs amazing. I've turned everything off on this phone and yet it's down 11% not being used while I slept. That's bad.
Seems like the G4 sucks a little because only 1 is unlocked?

Cricket is NOT CDMA anymore. Hasn't been for almost a year since AT&T bought them and converted to GSM.
OP, get the H815. It will work on cricket bands and the bootloader is unlocked. It's exactly what I will be doing soon since I'm officially sick of Samsung (Sammy fangirl here, or used to be) and them turning their phones into crapple. I have cricket service as well. Good luck.

I'd be interested in what you wind up with. What do you mean many variants? If I pick one up, I want to make sure I get the correct one (sim unlocked as well as manufacturer unlockable bootloader) that is compatible with cricket. TIA.

Will it be safe to buy the Verizon variant over the google store?

I haven't completely thought this through, so I'm not sure if this will make sense or not, so bear with me.
I've been looking around the internet and getting mixed responses about the verizon variant of the pixel. I want to be able to have an unlocked BL (which I'm pretty sure is possible with depixel8) and root. I normally would be all for the Google model, but they're out of stock and I could get the verizon model within a few hours rather than waiting for a restock. My main concern is if the verizon model will cause some annoyances in the future, because Verizon might pull something out of nowhere that would make having the verizon model dreadful. Basically, does anyone think that there will be any issues (especially in the future) if I just got the verizon model and unlocked the bootloader and just flashed the stock software, sort of de-verizoning it, or would I honestly just be better off waiting for Google to get more stock

If you do get it from Verizon, unlock the bootloader immediately, and NEVER re-lock it. You can't really "de-verizon" it. Once you boot with a Verizon sim, the next update will push you to the Verizon version of the firmware, which is not a big deal, just different radios optimized to Verizons network. Any Verizon apps can be uninstalled.
Sent from my Pixel XL using XDA Premium HD app
I was in the same boat as you. I went with the verizon version. Unlocked the bootloader, and popped my sim in. It downloaded the latest non verizion ota. I say go for it.
Project Fi had all variants in stock as of a few days ago. My XL is due next week from them. I'm already a Fi customer and expect to be for the foreseeable future, so their finance option at zero interest was an easy sell. You could probably start service and cancel it after you receive your phone if you have another carrier.
Dude, I bought mine from Google store and vzw still pushed 63X on mine :crying:
Good thing I unlocked it before taking in the update.

How can I tell if my cell carriers Z2's are eligable for unlocking the bootloader?

I've been out of the game for a bit so I'm a little lost, are ALL the z2 phones boot loaders unlockable through the Motorola Devs site, or only the ones from Sprint and T-Mobile? I haven't been to my store to see which particular version of the Z2 they sell yet, but I'm also looking at the LG V30 which I know I need a specific version number (998). What do I need to look for before I buy the Z2 to make sure I can unlock it and flash TWRP?
I used to be an android tweaker back when I was in middle school (about 2009-ish) and then switched to apple. Now I'm done with that and want to get back into android so I'm looking into what phones are out and my tiny local cell carrier offers the V30 and the Z2 Force which are both contenders. I'm particularly interested in using Magisk which wasn't around back in the day
Thanks!
I think only AT&T and Verizon models can't be unlocked unless another carrier out of the US also told Moto they don't want them unlocked.

stay away from the LG phones if you want an unlocked bootloader. unless you get an international variant they will not be what you want. I just got rid of my G6 because of this. They allow you to unlock your BL on Tmobile but guess what? No fastboot commands work!!! Seems all the new Lg's are doing this now

Well I'm not on any of those four lol, thats why I want to know if I can tell by serial number or something. Otherwise I suppose I can go buy the thing, try the moto website, and if it's not eligible I'll just tell my carrier I didn't like the phone and since the warranty should still be good they'll let me "test drive" it for two weeks.

Have a friend who has TMobile buy it outright, after 7 days you can carrier unlock it via calling in to TMobile and them giving you the SIM unlock code. The T-Mobile account must be current, phone be active, and must be purchased, you can't carrier unlock (via carrier) unless it is purchased and not leased, rented, amount owed on device. Will it work on Vz? I wouldn't know to be honest.

Thanks I thought I had something going lol. I did read about getting the code but it didn't go through the details. That is probably why Moto is.not selling an unlocked version. I'm not so much interested in a custom.rom but would like root. I'm in a tough signal area in Wisconsin and the only phones that work well here are Motorola. I've tried the Note 8, Pixel2XL even the Essential none of them are worth a darn signal wise. I have the original Z Force but Verizon so no root. Oh well back to the boards. Thanks Again.

That is why I left Vz. Great signal but I want unlock options. Having to use rumrunner on my HTC M7 was a pain compared to just going to HTCdev and accepting the voided warranty. HTCdev, Motorola unlock site, etc will always work. Programs like rumrunner, Sunshine, etc can be patched via update and not work on newer firmwares. No bueno in my book.
I first bought the VZW Z2 Force and fell in love with it but I couldn't live without root. I sent it back and went to TMO and got one. TMO signal in my area is terrible, many dead spots. I don't own this phone but I'd pay it off in a heartbeat if I knew I could carrier unlock it and then throw my Verizon SIM card in it. Nobody has tried yet?

Usually it would require the Verizon flash all and then it depends if Lenovo went cheap and put the Verizon specific frequencies for LTE in all models. Most of the time each phone for different carriers are from different batches with tiny hardware differences. Some times the radio is the exact same and the modem firmware file depicts what frequencies are unlocked. (Most of us modders went away from Verizon for what my previous post explains, so possibly no one who has Verizon has tried to bite the bullet).
If I didn't have Verizon I wouldn't be able to make a call from my.house. That's how bad it is right here and that's only because of a Network extender. You could still try it all you have to do is carrier unlock it and try. Anybody's Verizon sim will work.

hmm. It's weird that ATT and TMO have the same serial if ones unlockable and one isn't. I guess the serials won't really help me then

Not going to lie I had to look MVNO up but Wikipedia says Verizon. ****...so I guess that means I'm out of luck
EDIT: My company does sell the snapdragon Galaxy devices though. I know the boot loader is locked but they can still get root and I can still run exposed then right? It'll really suck not having a custom recovery but Xposed should give me enough to play with. I'll have to jump over to those forums

2 questions cant unlock boot loader is the 32 GB Ver worth 110$?

I got this phone on amazon for 110$ us then seen it on ebay for around 65$ only after I orded it.
regardless the oem boot loader is grayed out.
its a gsm unlocked works fine with my tmobel sim.
came with stock 7.1 tryed to unlock then upgraded to 8.1 still grayed out and now 10.0 still grayed out.
If the boot loader cant be unlocked I most likely will send it back thanks for you time
Sounds like it is a Verizon/unlocked model and they indeed do have encrypted boatloaders. If you had stayed on the old version of android you were on when you got it I believe there's a Verizon unlock boatloader thread here on XDA but it has to be on an older version of Android to work.
I bought my XL off eBay for $135 new a few months ago. Its confusing because some people that aren't like us XDA peeps, they don't fully understand the whole unlocked deal and most don't know wth a bootloader is or if they have Verizon unlocked model or also over on pixel 2 and 2xl eveb the refurnished units from Google have encrypted boatloaders and the thing isn't even greyed out but it won't unlock because they're encrypted as well. I've seen several reports of this on here, reditt and on Google's own help site people tripping out because they received replacement devices that had the encrypted bootloaders. I'd be sooooooo pissed!! If you run some fastboot commands and it can't be unlocked, if you end up not being able to return it and want one that doesn't have the locked down bootloader od throw it on swappa and sell it and get one. Swappa is cool because many of the people there are here in the forums or have been and they known what they have. Good luck. Sorry that happened to you man. It gave me anxiety after I looked for a month for a decent deal and read all the reports all over the internet.
There are Verizon Pixel & XL that are carrier unlocked but still have the locked bootloader and work on some gsm carriers. This sounds like it may be the case with yours. I'd throw it on a cord and type in the unlock fastboot command anyway just to see.

Np. All Android devices come with the bootloader locked and if the carrier that the device was sold on doesn't make their models to have the extra security, with an encrypted bootloader to where it's impossible to unlock the bootloader for anyone except the one who encrypted it, in this case the carrier.. I've never heard of a device that had the encrypted bootloader being unencrypted by request from user on whatever carrier the device came from. If they're encrypted, unless someone else finds a work around, and it would be here somewhere if they did,,, then they stay locked and can't be rooted.
Verizon devices that they sell CANNOT be bootloader unlocked because that's how they decided to sell their phones. Almost all Android's sold by USA carriers are that way these days with the exception of many Motorola/Lonovo devices and a few others in the mix here and there.
I had a moto g6 Play (Boost mobile) before my Pixel XL (which I named Jesus because it saved me ??) and my G6 Play had a quad core 1.4 GHz CPU while all other models of the same phone had an eight core chips Boost sold the runt and I was in a hurry the day I purchased it and the lady at Boost shook her head when I walked in the store and told her what I wanted she confirmed that it had an eight core CPU and me being in such a hurry that day grabbed it, paid and left only to find out later it was laggy and the lady in the store had no clue about what I said or wasn't paying attention just shook her head as I talked.. lol. So after I unlocked the BL and rooted it with good ole TWRP recovery & Magisk I was then able to debloat it and take off like 30-40 apps, all kinds of sales trash, then the lag almost went away and it made it at least usable thanks to the great work of PHH on GSI roms and everyone else who participates in the GSI development. So you gotta really watch for these CDMA USA carriers because they're the ones who have many phones with specs cut down in half like that.. I'll never buy anything but Pixel and OnePlus again! Too much headache and to me in my opinion those are the best devices.
It's become a real mission these days to purchase a good Android device that doesn't have an encrypted bootloader because that's the way most carriers sell them so the only way to go is buying factory unlocked and confirming that the device can indeed be bootloader unlocked before purchase. Thing is many people who sell phones online don't care to answer a question like that and they buy their phones in bulk and half of them don't know what the heck they have. lol.. A good phone salesman knows what we mean when we say the word "bootloader." They're like, "Aaaah hell another one of those xda rooting tech gurus." ?? Back in the day almost all Android's could be bootloader unlocked by user if they wanted to. Now it's a mess of confusion for those who want to mod their device.

Bootloader unlockable phones currently sold through AT&T?

The title about says it all. I'm on an AT&T business plan via work and we get our choice of upgrades every 18 months or so. I'm trying to plan my next upgrade. Just curious if there is anything at all that is either a developer edition or something with an unlockable bootloader. Sure I know the answer already but figured I'd check anyway! Even if it is hackable to get unlock I'd love to know. Thanks!

Most carriers sell phones with bootloaders that cannot be unlocked. Sometimes though there are hacks/exploits to get access and unlock a bootloader that cannot be unlocked. Usually if one wants a bootloader unlockable phone they have to buy directly from Google (or Best Buy or Amazon or other retailer that sells fully unlocked devices). An unlockable bootloader allows you to customize software on your device and make it run or do the things you want. Carriers don't like that ... quite frankly IMHO it's 100% about monetization of you, the product. If you are interested, stay FAR away from Samsung stuff. None of it is unlockable here in the states without an exploit (correct me if I'm wrong).

This post is obvious, but ...
Did I understand correctly from the first post that you work for AT&T and would like to break the locks on phones ordered from manufacturers for the employer/client?

See if they have a Pixel or Xaomi and you have a prayer. Other options would be talking a majority of CO workers into T Mobile stage a rebellion over phones they give you cuz they spy on you. Let freedom reign!
