I found the reason. If you have the wearable widgets app (or similar) the screen frequency will always be 60 Hz as long as the app is running in the background

[Q] Turn Down Brightness

I was wondering whether there were any apps which would allow you to lower the brightness beneath the lowest setting available in settings? My brightness is at the lowest setting and I reckon I could lower it further and not be disappointed whilst saving myself some battery.
Any ideas?
I'd like to know this too. I've got my brightness at 0% using the "Brightness Level" app, but if I'm browsing I notice that if I sit on the screen for about 30 seconds, the screen will dim further beyond the supposed minimum.

Really? I used to run Voodoo beta 4 on Tayutama's JM8 ROM, but didn't see that feature and it's not mentioned in the changelog:
http://project-voodoo.org/changelog
I'm currently using Hardcore kernel which seems to be faster (probably because of the No-RFS Advanced option I'm using)

Old Voodoo for Eclair had a low brightness mode, but ultra low brightness will be in future Voodoo release, in approx ~1 month
And of course it will be configurable (or it's as useful as annoying!)
Dimmer App
I use the Dimmer app available from the market. This takes brightness down to a third of the default minimum...
Screen filter from the market works really well, you can set it more or less to completley black if you want. But i am not sure if it helps saving battery. But as far as i know how AMOLEDs work it should help...
Anybody else using it?

omg thanks so much now i use screen filter just what i needed no more harsh lights when i use phone on bed in dark

Is there any way to make the screen brighter for movies/videos???

I can't watch any movies... its way too black!!!!!!!! Otherwise the tablet is perfect, but it would be nice to watch a trailer without trying to figure out what is happening.
Surfing the web = 10
Functionality = 10
QPair = 10
However watching videos = 1
Is there a fix or should I just return this tablet for something else?
Uh... just turn the brightness up and turn off auto brightness. Or get MX player and... Turn up the brightness in the app's display settings

Brighter Video Playback
The "Filter Your Screen - Free" app has dramatically improved video playback using the LG Video viewer, BS Player, and MX Player. The settings that work for me are: Alpha 30; Red 200; Green 200 and Blue 220. I also set the Display Brightness in "Settings" to 85% or higher.
After viewing a video, I set the Brightness back to around 50% and turn the Screen Filter off and it seems to save the battery. I can only get about 5 hours of battery life with the brightness set high and the Screen Filter on.
Hope this helps.
I'm the same I tried to watch a movie on YouTube and it was unwatchable think I might be trading this

Thank you for the tip on this app. I will try it and update my thread to also recommend the app. I'm going to use it for a few days and see if it affects my battery life negatively. With the screen adjuster app running, I can easily go a day or two before having to charge my tablet.
Thanks

I have found Lux auto brightness FREE in Car mode makes dark scenes in movies much much better. No noticeable difference in battery consumption either.

This made it so that movies seemed to drop frames and causing the playback to be a tad jittery. Also the whole UI became slower and the level of microlag increased.
Isn't there a flashable fix for this instead of applying stuff that renders a "fix" in real time and thus causing misc gpu rendering problems?
As of right now no.
Used filter my screen and it works like a charm. I see no playback issues while its on. I used it with MX player.

Can I lower the screen brightness for the Oneplus 3?

Hello Together,
at night, when i am reading in bed or surfing with chrome the display is too bright.
Is there a app or tweak to reduce the minimum screen brightness?
I would prefer not to use an app with a filter overlay. It should really reduce the brightness.
I have read about such an feature with ElementalX Kernel. It did not worked so I changed to stock again.
THANK YOU,

Just disable adaptive brightness and adjust it manually to your liking.
Download the app f.lux , it sure makes the screen easy on my eyes at night
Thanks for your ideas.
Manual brightness lowest setting is no difference.
And i installed f.lux. I do Not like the settings.
Are there further ideas/possibilities?
What did not work with elementalx?
Did you install the kernel correctly and enable the backlight dimmer option? Works for me
Download this xposed module and lower the minimum brightness level.

ElementalX kernel has a feature which allows you to dim the display to a lower value than by default, you may want to check it out.
Try Twilight app
I found an app on Google Play called " TWILIGHT
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.urbandroid.lux
You set the time of day for the phone to dim - early in the morning and late at night. It dims the screen but also shades more reds on the screen as it's better for your eyes before sleep to decrease the bright lights. Been using it for 6 months and I like it. Occasionally - I get a warning of "screen overlay" when I'm using sime new apps that modify phone settings, but you can pause the app to modify settings - and reactivate the Twilight.
Give it a try..

Colour change at min brightness.

MY issue with the stock Rom, which has been bugging me for a while is that when I reduce the brightness to the minimum, the Contrast changes, or something of the sorts, this really annoys me and I would like to disable it. Can someone help me out? I really don't want to flash a custom ROM.
I think that's normal because of AMOLED display, I also noticed it on CM14.1
This is simply the way this particular screen works, can't be fixed with software.
You can only avoid it by not reducing brightness as much. According to "Lux" the color shift starts under 4% brightness.

But why does the min brightness in mxplayer not have this issue?

Because mx player doesn't set the brightness as low as you can set it manually using the brightness slider.
Select menu - display - settings - screen - untick "brightness". Now you can set your brightness manually to even lower using the brightness slider.
Other apps seem to work similarly (for example an third party brightness widget)... Not setting it to minimum... Like they don't recognize the "real" minimum brightness - which is lower. I don't have this "issue" on my tablet. Haven't looked much into it though.

How To Guide Remove Adaptative refresh rate

Hello everyone,
The solution is maybe already posted but I didn't see it. I saw this solution on a another forum so I will share it here.
To remove adaptative refresh rate :
-download setedit app
-set user_refresh_rate from 120 to 1
Done ! Now YouTube at 120 hz for example.
If you play for long session some heavy game, the phone could throttle and refresh rate will be at 60. In my experience, with user_refresh_rate at 1, the phone will stay at 60 after the throttling. So simply chose again 120hz in miui settings and set again user_refresh_rate at 1 in setedit. Except after heavy games, the rate will always be the same and no more bug where the phone would go to 60 even if set at 120.
You can enable and disable Battery Saver from Quick Settings to go back from 60 Hz to 120 Hz, after your phone "throttled".
This way user_refresh_rate will stay at 1

In my case, enable / disable battery saver change setedit value, need to edit it manually afterwards. Thanks anyways !
