So I am f*cked up. - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
I am rolling MIUI 12 Chinese beta 20.5.11 and my bootloader seems to be somehow locked. It is very strange because I flashed the ROM and Magisk from TWRP and it all worked. Now yesterday I went to developer options and saw that the phone says it's locked. I tried to open with MiFlash-Unlock and it said "Device bootloader is unlocked, no need to re-unlock."
Please help me what should I do? Am I able to flash at least MIUI 11 with MTK FLash or MiFlash without bricking my phone?

for me too, but i flasher miui11 with miflash and all work good! the bootloader is unlocked maybe it's a bugs of miui 12

Locked bootloader, stuck in recovery mode.

Hello guys.
I recently bought this phone and wanted to use netflix, but didn't allow me because it outdated and said it was not compatible with my phone. So I did a bit of research and found a post in "mi community" that said it was because phone had bootloader unlocked. The phone was new and I didn't change anything of it, but I found the bootloader was unlocked.
Installed fastboot and adb drivers, locked bootloader and got myself into a... Brick?
-I can still load into fastboot.
-If I turn on the phone, It tries to load android but loads Mi-Recovery 3.0 instead. Recovery also says "This MIUI version can't be installed on this device"
I'm so lost from this point, I need to know if there is a way to flash any rom, and which one do I need.
Thanks in advice
stuck on recovery
Most likely a chinese phone that came with global rom. If it came with global rom try flashing chinese rom and then unlocking bootloader and reflash global. Do not lock bootloader after flashing global.

Thanks for helping! Hope I can somehow do it

Try searching for tools below which might help.
Saki / XiaomiADBFastbootTools
XiaomiADBFastbootTools-6.5.1-Win
I had hard bricked mine and had to take back off and use EDL to revive.

I don't find the way to reboot (via software) to EDL from fastboot, is still possible to access it by opening the phone?

If you can flash global ROM. I think you just need to unlock bootloader and then flash China ROM once you have unlocked bootloader.
China ROM link below

It lets me flash de global one, but when I try to do the same with chinese rom, it says the version is lower, so I can't "downgrade".
It's weird because according to version number, the global one was a few versions lower
Solved the issue
The same issue , i was also encountered , After Flashing with "Xiaomi_Mi_Max_3_V10.2.1.0.PEDMIXM_20190226.0000.00_Global_9.0" Mi Max 3 with the MiFlash20191206 tool , by default the tool used "Clear data and Lock".
The tool saying "Flashing" and my phone got rebooted and went to MI Recovery 3.0 and also i got the message as
"This MIUI version can't be installed on this device".
I am not clueless how to proceed. So downloaded the Chinese version and again i tried to flash with above tool. Now tool said that "Can't Erase Locked" phone.
So Now i connected to Miflash_unlock with fastboot and connected to mi account and again i unlocked the phone.
Now my phone automatically booted to the Global version.
So i hope the issue is selecting the option as "Clear data and lock" . We need to select only "Clear data" in the flash tool.

Hi there,
I encountered the same issue. I tried to flash some CN Rom without enough research, without knowing that you can't just flash an Android 10 rom from 9 directly by recovery (even TWRP). So I ended up Fastboot or TWRP but never able to boot into system. Fortunately I didn't flash my Max3 by fastboot rushly, so my phone was still unlocked.
This is how I solved it:
1. Download an official CN ROM (the below I used is MIUI 11 with Android 9.9.x);
I can't post link here but search "miui通过线刷升级" - you shall see a miui.com link ending with shuaji-393.html. That's the page I download the Mi Max3 ROM from.
2. Use MiFlash to flash the official ROM with the flash option "clean all", NOT "clean All and lock";
3. The phone shall reboot into system, give it 5-10 minutes;
4. Flash the miui.eu ROM you like (DO make sure it is Android 9 tho) by recovery (tutorial given under every official xiaomi.eu ROM download).
Again it's easy to search
It took me less than an hour to do it (I don't have much experience with new XiaoMi phone). So don't worry about bricking your phone forever.
Hope it helps to destress
Hi guys. I need some help too because I'm not totally sure what I have to do here so if anyone can give me some tips I would appreciate it.
I just ordered the 128gb 6gb ram version of Mi Max 3 and it might come with the global rom and already unlocked. Should I use the Mi flash tool to install the file MIUI 11 V11.0.3.0.PEDCNXM android 9 fastboot file? then after that installs I should lock the bootloader and then unlock it again myself with my mi own account? I just want to make sure that this is the correct way to do it.
Also after it I unlock it should I flash the newest xiaomi.eu rom with android 10 or do i have to do something else first? Thank you

Help! Can't relock the bootloader

Guys, I have a problem. I need to relock the bootloader, I didn't had any problems before trying LineageOS and it's recovery... after testing the rom, I decided to go back to STOCK MIUI and relock the bootloader, but when mi flash finish installing and locking again the booloader, the system gets corrupted and I have to unlock the bootloader again (fortunately MI FLASH UNLOCK still lets me unlock the bootloader) ... This has never happened before, only after trying LOS recovery and Lineage OS official. My redmi 7 works with the bootloader unlocked but i can't get it locked again because "the phone system got destroyed".... i havent found nothing on the internet :/, have you any idea what this happens? cant get netflix working... Thanks in advice. Hope y'all are well
I just went through the same hell

Hi, glad to hear that i'm not the only one who had this problem, i had PixelExperience installed and wanted to go back to MIUI so i installed 11.0.5, this isn't the first time that i relocked the bootloader, so i knew what to do, but then the "Your system has been destroyed" message hit me, hopefully i tried and succesfully reunlocked the bootloader, and it just booted me in MIUI.
Soooo.... right now, my theory ( cause i've been able to relock the bootloader in the past ) is that somehow, MIUI 11.0.5 broke the relocking of the bootloader, so tomorrow ( cause right now im exhastued of what i just went through ) im going to try to install MIUI 10.3.4.0 and relock the bootloader.
If you want to give it a try and it works, reply to this comment, if tomorrow i try and it works i will let you know.
Hopefully it works tomorrow.
Sincerely, themselg
Hey Hi,
After using the Android 10 based rom you can't relock the bootloader of the phone using android 9 Fastboot ROM. wait for android 10 based official MIUI.

I just downgraded to MIUI 10.3.4.0 and can confirm that, that wasn't the problem, so yeah, we need to wait until the Android 10 based MIUI 11 rom comes to the device ( it just launched 3 days ago in China so i hope we don't have to wait that long ).

Question [SOLVED] Downgrade error changing region from 12.0.4.0 EEA to 12.0.8.0 Global, how can I solve?

Hi
I'm trying to install directly, from the phone update menu, from 12.0.4.0 EEA to 12.0.8.0 Global, but when I select the zip file downloaded I get an that says that it's impossible to downgrade.
My phone is actually locked.
Is it possible in other ways?
AFAIK, if I want to use Xiaomi Flash Tools, I have to unlock bootloader, it it correct?
Thanks

If I understand correctly you can't change firmware region unless bootloader unlocked.
And shouldn't lock bootloader once change region.
I did't know that! This is for a friend of mine phone, with mine I normally leave bootloader unlocked and then I root with Magisk.
In this case, I want just to unlock bootloader, put global version of stock MIUI 12 and then relock bootloader.
I've just done some search and it seems that it can't be done only on chinese stock rom.
But I'm not sure 100%, so just looking to be completely sure before proceeding.
For now, I'm just waiting the 168hrs before taking step 2 of unlocking bootloader.
Thanks
I succeded using XiaomiTool V2, an unofficial app, I've used on Windows 10, but it seems to be available also on Mac.
So, without unlocking the bootloader, now I am on 12.0.8.0 Global.
I received an error at end of the ROM installation (was VERY worried), but then all was ok...
I didn't know this tool, even if I have Xiaomi phones from several years, and it's written by an Italian guy...

Can I flash a global version ROM to a Redmi Note 8 Pro CN version?

Hello all,
As a consequence of a recent OTA update to MIUI 12.5.2, Google Play and Google apps ceased to work on my Redmi Note 8 Pro (begonia) CN version. In order to have them back again, I am considering switching to a stock ROM for the global version of the RN8Pro.
Does this sound like a reasonable plan?
Are there hardware differences between the CN version and the global version of the RN8Pro?
Can I go ahead and flash a global version ROM over a CN version ROM?
Would this allow me to install Google Play and Google apps on the RN8Pro?
Thanks!
You can. You are not asking for impossible. But it will cost you your data as your phone will be wiped in the process.
The procedure is Unlock bootloader -> Flash Global/EEA/Indonesia/Xiaomi.eu ROM (but the guys at xiaomi.eu stopped the development of the ROM long ago, so only ancient version of MIUI is available) OR even a custom ROM (wichever you like). You will find the corresponding tutorial in this device's forum.
@kekesed97: Thanks!
After a one-week wait (Xiaomi imposes this waiting period for bootloader unlocking), I was able to unlock the bootloader and flash a stock global ROM to my RN8Pro. Everything went fine. The phone was working perfectly, with its bootloader still unlocked.
Then I fell into a trap.
After reading about things that would not work on a phone with unlocked bootloader (Google Pay, banking apps, etc.), I decided to relock the bootloader of my RN8Pro. Did that by running "fastboot oem lock" on a PC connected to the phone.
Relocking the bootloader kind of bricked the phone. The RN8Pro is now stuck in the menu for "MIUI Recovery 5.0", with the following message at the bottom of the screen:
"This MIUI version can't be installed on this device"
Is there a way out of this trap?

Some GooglePay and banking apps can be used after pass safetynet by doing something with Magisk. And you should read something about lock bootloader before doing that. China phone only can be locked with China Miui roms, by chose clean and lock on Miflashtool (best way to prevent brick). So if you want to do that, better downgrade to Miui 12.0.x to use Google apps and no more updates. And if anything else you want to be helped, join group on Telegram and get help.

Thanks, @Kirasu2080. Now I see that I should have flashed a MIUI 12.0.x China version ROM, rather than a global ROM.
But I still don't see how to fix things... Since phone is stuck in recovery with its bootloader locked, it appears as there is no way for me to downgrade now.

Use free unbrick hardbrick method for this. You can search Youtube videos, some solve problems, some not work, some make you lose Imei. That's why i told you join Telegram group for direct chat.
I have the global vesrsion of the Redmi note 8 pro. I want to flash the Euro version on it without unlocking the bootloader. Is this possible with the MiFlash tool?

You need to do the "EDL mode or Test point".
Lock xiaomi devices can be unbricked using that method.
Flash firmware using EDL or Test point mode. Please search in youtube.

Mi Flash Tool has the option to relock
Search, you can find elsewhere about the tool (it's generic for various Xiaomi phones), hence don't hesitate to read from Pocco or other (sub)forums
PS: I never used Mi Flash. And I didn't upgrade to MIUI 13
But I do have unlocked BL, using MN SHRP custom Recovery and Magisk and LSPosed with various modules
How did you downgrade to 12.5? As far as I know downgrading could produce many errors and if we somehow forcefully bypassed these errors, the phone could be bricked.
Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE Miui 13 Update?
I read Miui 13 is out for LISA. Has anyone received the update yet? For EEA its 13.0.1.0.SKOEUXM.

With an unlocked bootloader, or in EDL (with authorization, works on locked too), flashing the Fastboot version of the ROM should be enough.
After all, firmware is overwritten, XBL and ABL are too, partition layout is the same, same anti version, etc. Of course, user data has to go, since you're going backwards it's the safest way.

Have you tried it? I did try flashing the fastboot ROM via MiFlash but it gave me anti rollback error. If I edit the .bat file to remove the anti rollback lines, it gave crc error. Though I've managed to downgrade by flashing official 12.5.14 recovery rom via TWRP. Seems like MIUI 13 is not blocking user to go back to MIUI 12.
