Lineageos for Gigaset GS290 - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I tried to find anything in regards of using lineageos with the Gigaset GS290, but unfortunately I was not able to find any note.
Do anybody knows if there is a possibility to install lineageOS on that device?
btw. I used also the google search but there was also no result.
Many thanks in advance for any hint.

@nift4, I'm very impressed with your ROM lineage-17.1-20210318-EXPERIMENTAL-GS290. At first glance, it runs like clockwork. I can't tell you the details yet. Please continue. I would be happy to donate a coffee or more...

Actually, it's not by me, but by @erfanoabdi. I wrote that in the post tho.

@erfanoabdi
I flashed the latest 17.1 rom but without flashing the firmware (mine was newer, had the february 2021 update installed before switching to your rom). Now the compass does not work, would it work if I would downgrade the firmware to what is included in the zip?
Second problem:
Recovery reboots when inserting an USB cable and connecting it to a linux pc. Had to flash though /e/ recovery then switch to the lineage recovery and refrain from inserting the USB cable.
Any ideas?

My Gs290 works now with the latest 18.1 rom. really happy this is made possible! thanks sir. Erfanoabdi ! i'll buy you a coffee too!
i did notice outgoing calls are not possible no sound and hang up after 8 seconds , receiver has no sound neither.
incomming calls work fine . putting phone on speaker does not work , still on earspeaker.
i did mannage to ring a person on 3G but no ringing and no sound afterwards.
strangely a helpdeskline of a company (fixed line ) did work
don't know if i would need to flash to 17.1 rom to have calling fully possible???

I did need twrp gs290 recovery for succesful completion , other wise it looped in to "smartphone in orange state. and when connecting the smartphone in fastboot to the pc it would reboot in orange state....
also need the right driver for the gigaset GS920 chip https://www.getdroidtips.com/install-mediatek-mt65xx-usb-vcom-drivers/
(don't know if it's trustworthy) and update it with driver booster 8 (easy )
(In win10 you need to restart in advanced startupsettings and push "7" disable drive signing enforcement before doing so)
Or update "android device " in device manager with the driver.

I know you understand how important is to upload a source code of your rom. Because all your work based on a source code from other contributors of MTK community that they provided for everyone. Your rom can even has my code (just because one of the people you mentioned used it). So I think it is important to share the code with the community. It will helps to fix bugs and create new roms in the future. And it will be fair for all people have been making roms before you. Also some people (like me) want to make enchancements to original code from Android vendors but it will be impossible without source. I hope you understand my position and will make needed acions once you will be ready to show it for the public.

My message was for Dinolek
And Treble support is good but not enough if you want to build a rom for yourself because Dinolek made changes for core system libraries/frameworks. And kernel is not a problem at all. The problem was to make everything working on system-level and Dinolek did it. That's awesome.

i replied on his behalf only he have exams i was also there when he was bringing up this project now i openly say why sources are hidden you know lunik he charges money for developing roms also he didn't provided credits to patches owner dinolek did it for us i know other developers also want this but if all sources goes out i am damn sure lunik will copy his work and earn money from it so sources are not open tho kernel sources with modifications are out you can bringup with that kernel

Source will be uploaded when rom get to beta stage.
I'm not using clear aosp sources, I based on Mediatek alps 8.1 source code, that's why it's hard to share it in proper way.
Nothing is based on work from other contributors, except maintained ones.

Thanks for feedback.
About 2 and 3, install latest 6.2.0.0G from flyme site, not twrp one.
For 4 flash the fix from rom download link fix_alsps_mblu2_oreo.zip, it will be included in next update.
About 5, we don't have gyroscope, on other firmwares it is emulated from magnetometer.
What do you mean in 9?
To disable hardware keys and enable software flash zip from faq.

I'm not responsible for any damage to your device of any sort.
By flashing this you take responsibility of anything that happens.
Process at your own risk!
This firmware was developed for the p905. It doesn't apply to the p905v at this time because it's bootloader locked and a custom recovery isn't possible.
If you want to check firmware - please make backup. Better to store all partitions, at least efs and may be modem.
I'm using nano gapps.
Instructions
1. Install custom recovery
2. Download the zip(s) - firmware and Google Apps additional package (optional)
3. Backup all partitions (it least efs) and store somewhere - it need to do - because you can loose imei
4. Full wipe all
5. Flash firmware and gapps

Hi all
I'm here, i'm still continue working on note pro 12.2.
I was absent for a while, it was a lot of another projects.
Time ago I started work on treble project for our 12.2 and it was almost done, now i'll continue work on it, based on lineage pie sources.
And then I'll try to make actual stock (8,0+) port, based on treble.
Thx a lot,
On evening the flash party started [emoji16]
Found simular issues as with CrDroid :
Notification Loop sound, if the power cable is connected ( slow charging)
Very Low Mic on WhatsApp / Sound recorder... OK Google is working..
Magnet Flipcover doesn't open /close the screen
Magisk 7.0&18.1 is working
which one would you recommend ?
lineageos 16.0
or

The sound loop is the notification for charging. i dont know, wäre I can disable this in this Rom.

S-Pen works well in Squid , Google Keep, MS OneNote and Google handwrite
Thanks @Valera1978, great work...
I installed the Rom with dirty flash over the 15.1.
Then opengapps nano and Magisk 18.1 with TWRP flashed.
Everything works so far, including root.
Only one thing ... The security patch level is given as May 1th 2016. Is that correct ?
Many Thanks again...

This is correct. This is date from our original latest P905XXUABPE2
I can skip it and this field will be empty.
It does not affect anything, just the information on the date of the vendor.
Main security patch level - this is feb 5, 2019 - it's come from android sources.

Thanks for the awesome rom.... I noticed that the s-pen does work very well. But would it be possible to look at the palm rejection as it is not working. Battery stand by is awesome. Rotation is still a bit ******ly, i have to push the screen off button to rotate back to landscape from portrait.
Once again thank you for keeping our 12.2 alive.
@Valera1978
1. Palm rejection not working. PR did not work since your 8.X rom. If there is no fix I need to go back to 7.1. I used Lecture Notes for testing. S-Pen not working on a Note device makes no sense to me.
2. Charing sound using Samsung network dongle causes the device to play some unknown alarm instead of the standard notification sound. It seems the alarm sound caused by charging can only be stopped by rebooting. Turned it off in the settings. That's o.k.
3. Rotations seems to work - sometimes. After booting it works, then it seems later it does not anymore.
4. Could be me, but I think charging is slower than using 7.1.
If you can't fix PR can you continue to update the 7.1 rom?
I don't get this. The P905 device is the last of its kind. Big 12" IPS screen with pen support. The Note 12.2 is in the category of an Apple Ipad Pro but Samsung abandoned this line. Well they seem only be interested in the mass market. Fair enough, so does Google save their android eco-system? No, their newest tablet is a chrome OS bastard which is neither Chrome OS nor android.
Hi. Does it works for p905m ?
This firmware and the CrDroid version is very simular.
The issue e. g. with the notification tone during charging can be disabled in the CrDroid version
Resolved by wiping all and reflash the rom, thanks for your awesome job !
One issue same as mentioned above that the palm rejection has not been supported, which is most important to me for my heavy using the squid and onenote apps . So can PR be supported in the future build?

For now I am working with the LOS14.1 issues, worst case scenario, try this, clean flash previous build, setup and then dirty update. Tell me if it works! So sorry for the inconveniences.
Thanks, that worked great! Thank you for your work!
Works fine so far. But there's a folder "!ReadyToFlash\Root_Files" which includes amongst others "busybox_signed.zip" and "SR2-SuperSU-2.79....zip".
I've flashed them both successfully in TWRP but after reboot I can't see Busybox nor SuperSU and the Device is still unrooted (developer options offers root access as "only ADB" only).
Tried to root the Device again. This Time with Nexus Root Toolkit, which installs it's own SuperSU. But no effect again.
After this I found the official LineageOS 15.1 addonsu-15.1-arm-signed.zip and flashed it as well. Again to no avail.
Bootloader Mode says "Lock State: Unlocked". So what's wrong here?
And as I've now flashed so far three different versions of SuperSU and BusyBox (which I can't find anywhere although a root checker says it's installed), do I have to uninstall these files to prevent further problems caused by orphan files from these Installations?

Maybe these are left-overs from a previous ROM? Better delete them and use Magisk which is known to work with this ROM.

As you promised in your technical preview version , thanks a lot :good: will install it and give feedback
Many thanks @Valera1978.
Cleanly flashed with Data format used the TWRP 3.3.1-0 like for LOS16, instead of 3.4.0-0 with BiTGapps and Magisk.
No more unwanted appearences on the screen when turning. :good:
When focussing on a text the field now shows the letters. :good:
Camera, as you wrote, not working at all. so what
Will carry on testing.
LOS16 will be abandoned, or not?
Is there any battery efficiency improvements with these updates?
Running LOS 14 without gapps -1% per minute. Using the tablet as a remote mouse/keyboard for pc

I think yes. start to the los 16 was done for several reasons:
- I had the experience of switching to the android 10 on 3 different series (exynos7870, qcom800 and qcom820) - in all cases with working android 9 it was a huge number of problems, switch to android 10 I think the most difficult in my memory
- Old device config, every new version has some problems, so it was easier to jump from working 14.1 to 16.0
- faster build 16 minutes on my computer for los 16 vs 26 minutes
Right now in the los 16 we have more problems, then in los 17, and i don't see any reason to spend a weeks for fix it. Better focus on los 17 for some code clean up.
I can live with the death of LOS16 very well.
Having your LOS17 on my T325 as well and I love it.
Btw. Firefox has still the same problems while other browsers work.

firefox issues on t325 or p900?
Only on P900.
After first usage and sync plus installation of some add-ons it doesn't connect any longer.
Same add-ons and sync on T325 without a problem.

Where can i find BiTGapps?
I did a clean flash, downloaded ARM GAPPS Stock and i'm having errors "updating ok google model service".
Everytime I try to use the mic the tab restarts.
Other than that it looks amazing *w*

It does connect, pages take time to load but nothing is rendered.
I did get a reboot when using the pen in Squid but after restart I played with Squid for a while with no problem!
BIG thanks to Valera !!!
Don't care about a working firefox any longer as I just saw how new version looks like on other device.
So I'm gonna switch browser anyhow.

Thats why I had to modify the APK so it will not update.
The old firefox (I think) is the best browser for this tablet.
The new firefox is much worse, even for normal phones.
So a fix for whyever firefox does not render the pages would be great
Anyone having troubles using the Mic? Everytime I try to use anything related the tab restarts o.o
Also having "updating OK Google model service" download error.
Which GApps version did you guys install?
Thanks!
Thanks @Valera1978 for LOS 17.1 it works good with a few problems but it maybe the apps like Firefox causing reboots and camera otherwise I like this ROM. Thanks again for your great work ???

Didn't test mic yet as camera not working don't need it then.
Usually I'm using Opengapps pico but that still includes Google TTS what BiTGapps doesn't.
The latter you find in XDA.
Both ARM of course.
Don't have the link right now.
Just noticed pen not recognised at all.
Edit: suddenly it does. Didn't do anything special.

Tried Clean Install using GApps nano, pico, micro and stock, same problem: "updating OK Google model service".
Tried using BitGapps, same problem
Also, mic doesn't work, restarts the tab as soon as you want to use it.
@Valera1978 congrats! it's an amazing ROM *w* everything feels smooth and fast.
Just the Mic Problem, i need it to use Microsoft Teams for calls xD
Congrats!
new update:
1. updated cpu config in dev tree (correct variant cortex-15 config)
2. updated power profile (and here found interesting setting in kernel to speed-up cpu freq up to 2100MHz and seem it's work)
3. updated kernel - net part, I had issues with net on start and made small fix, but now ported all net part from my msm8974 (same 3.4 kernel, but more up to date). firefox still dnw (will continue check), but at least no kernel panic
mic - this is my next priority
Feedback to built one (20200824):
- FPS drops when watching YouTube in higher than 480p (starts lagging behind audio)
- graphic bugs still exist (pixels and boxes)
Will now re-flash and try the new built :good:
Feedback to built one (20200825):
- reboots
- wlan sporadic not working
- freeze sometimes
Feedback to built one (20200824):
youtube bug (same above)

This firmware was developed for the p905. It doesn't apply to the p905v at this time because it's bootloader locked and a custom recovery isn't possible.
If you want to check firmware - please make backup. Better to store all partitions, at least efs and may be modem.
Instructions
1. Install custom recovery
2. Download the zip(s) - firmware and Google Apps additional package (optional)
3. Backup all partitions (it least efs) and store somewhere - it need to do - because you can loose imei
4. Full wipe all
5. Flash firmware and gapps
6. Uncheck Update Lineage Recovery alongside the OS option during start wizard

P.s. for BiTGApps: Chrome workaround with gapps: Chrome should be a part of system app in Android R (11) but we install it as user app, which break sign-in and sync in chrome. To fix this, allow contacts permission for chrome. Restart chrome and you can add your google account.

Nice
Will there be also a P900 build?
Thank you Valera 1978!
PS. I have "Serial console enabled Performance is impacted. To disable, check bootloader" message.
Today I saw that BT is not working at all
BT is already crashed in the last 17 Version from 2020/12 several times. Maybe a common issue?
A build for the P900 would be great! Many thanks to the developers for keeping this get tablet alive and better than ever!
Valera1978, gratitude for keeping our Tablet alive. How is the S-Pen working in this ROM?
Well, I think to try tomorrow to install it! Good work like always Dev
What would I necessarily have to do to Port this to p900
I tried this for a little time. For me it is laggy too much. It's better at the moment Lineage 17.1 even if I need to find the version with palm rejection working because in the last (for me) not work.
I tried this rev. but I immediatly rolled back to 17.1
So buggy and slow. I hope in next updates

Any progress?
Hi! I flashed the new version and this is perfect, not slow like the other!
I would want use Duo app but from the other side not hear me. If I do a simple video with camera app I can hear my voice. What problem can be???
Thanks a lot
Edit: I found this problem in lineage 17.1 too. Maybe there is some settings that I don't know?!
Edit2: If u want call via skype, duo or other things just use earphones... what a bug lol!
Tanks a lot Valera1978 for the New Update...
No possibility with p900?
New build's great, much smoother than 17.1 and no crashes or other issues so far
Edit: Found out that the lag is somehow caused by me changing the wallpaper. Not sure why since the wallpaper is not live and is only 1920x1200 so it shouldn't cause lag.
Also, system UI keeps stopping when trying to enter settings from the notification shade
Too bad can't download it (neither of them). There seems to be some kind of cooldown or something on Drive. Can anyone confirm?
Edit: Got it installed. Seems to be super smooth. Thank you very much for your work OP. You are da real MVP, this tabled is old but you keep this alive!
its not better compare to 17.1 . change colorful wallpapers in few programs/home unable to change. some graphics issue. video still same as 17.1 camera can not take video .but can take pictures. Thanks Valera1978 for the new upgrade
Updated April security patch. runs smooth, but still everything same camera only can use for photo and few apk graphic could not see. but over all it stable and nice thanks again Valera1978
updated May security patch. unfortunately can not boot. keep goes to recovery mode .do any one can help me what to do to boot as regular system.did any one face same problem
