I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, please excuse my ignorant.
I have an EVO that won't charge. I've read a lot from Google search results that this is a common problem among many users. However, the port seems to be working, because my computer will recognize the phone and storage when I plug it in. The charge led will come on, and the indicator on the phone will say that it's charging, but the phone is actually only discharging while plugged in. Eventually the led will turn itself off, and the phone stops telling me that it's charging when the battery is down to its last drop.
I hope that someone with similar problem can help me with fixing this, or if anyone cause tell me if it's possible to fix? I want to send it in to HTC since I think the phone is under warranty, even if I don't have the protection plan from Sprint? The problem is the touch glass is cracks, and I don't know if they'll fix the USB port without saying that I broke it and won't cover that under the warranty. I want to buy a new screen and replace the broken one, but if I open up the phone it would void the warranty as well...
So I'm stuck with a discharging phone, cracked screen, and having to carry around 3 separate batteries everyday, and I have no idea what step I need to take.
Please help?
Have you tried plugging it into another charger? It may just be the charger that is screwed up. If this behavior pattern is consistent across multiple chargers then you may want to talk to Sprint to see what options you have.

Doubt it's the charger as it was stated that the computer connection works - should get a bit of a charge from that. I agree that a Sprint visit is due.
Just went through this myself! Would plug my phone in before bed and wake up with the phone at 2% or so. Thought it was the battery- so i took my battery to have the sprint store check it, they did say it was bad. So i bought 2 batteries off ebay.
I got the batteries and still had the issue. So then I took my phone to the sprint store and had them check the micro-usb port. They said it was fine and they cleaned it out cause dirt/dust was in it. Still had the problem..
So I bought a new micro-usb cable of monoprice (still using the same wall charger) , and that solved the issue! Had a bad cable. Now my phone charges super quickly in matter of 4hrs.
It could still be the charger. The USB cable sends data and power through different pins. So a bad cable could still transfer data while not pushing a charge.

It's gotta be the port happen to mine and I was able to get it fix as long as the port was still attached to the motherboard, if its not attached then have to go thru the insurance.
EVO with Identity Crisis
I was able to connect to my computer and send data just fine with the old (broken) usb cable.
I've tried three different cable and a car charger, same result; they all say the phone is charging but it only gets discharged. USB/storage connection works. Last time the Sprint store said the battery is faulty, but I have 3 different ones and neither will get charged with the phone plugged in, an external charger will work.

Definitely sounds like a port issue then. If you return to Sprint and review what you've done, as well as the result of your previous trip, then they should be able to take care of you. If they try to tell you it's the battery again just stand your ground. Good luck.
I had a similar issue. I tried everything. It wasn't until I found my HTC cable that it started charging again. I work in IT and tried cables from everything I could get my hands on (blackberries, external drives etc. ) The cable that came with my phone was the only thing that worked.

Had same issue except couldnt sync. Eventually couldnt charge at all...Had port replaced ans can charge all day but no sync still....sucks but at least I can charge.

If you replaced the port yourself, I would love to know how to do it!
Took the phone back to Sprint and they said there's nothing they can do. I don't have the protection plan so I couldn't even pay the $100 to get it replaced (although I probably wouldn't as I can upgrade my contract and get a new phone soon). They also told me that HTC wouldn't cover it under their warranty because the screen is cracked and they will blame that on me for misused. I tried to check the warranty policy on HTC, but the page is not even available. Does anyone have experience dealing with HTC? I bought a replacement screen, I'd like to replace the screen but don't want to open up the phone if there's a chance HTC will fix the USB port...
HTC EVO 4G Won't - Stopped Charging Battery Issue

Two nights ago I woke up to an EVO that was plugged in with a Cellet
extractable charging cord, as it is just about every night. But, the phone was
still showing that it was charging the battery, animation with lighting bolt,
at only 50% charged after about 6.5 hours of charging. Hmmm....
The latter after trying to charge in the coffee shop first with Cellet chord in the
wall then a portable 3500mah solar portable charger; the phone not seeming to
charge at or past 50% charged.
My EVO is rooted but still with the stock ROM and the gingerbread 2.3.3 OTA
update. The battery is a Seido 1750mah and SetCPU is at 245 - 998mhz. The
phone has only been rooted for a few weeks, but I don't see where rooting
would interfere with battery charging.
I've pulled the battery out, several times to no avail. Switched back to the
stock battery, same results. However, if the battery is less than 50% full
the phone will charge the battery to 25% or 50%, weird. If the battery is
at 75% or more full, the phone will top off the charge to a green LED at 100%,
sometimes. Sometimes it won't fully charge the battery. Weird.
I read different posts regarding poor USB chords so I pulled out the stock
micro USB to USB, a charge only chord I figured, and am trying to top
off the Seido battery, which it seems to be doing as it's now full green but
still charging as the animation shows the bolt in the battery and the LED
is still orange.
If put the batteries in the Seido wall charger, the thing the size of a deck
of cards, both batteries fully charge.
I also use Screen Off by Iwashi Soft. That app has worked pretty well with just
a little funkiness now and then. However, while plugged in, I hit the power
button, instead of the home button to turn on the home screen. The phone
wouldn't open to any screen nor would turn on or off. So I ended up
yanking the battery to turn it off then reinstalled battery and turned phone back
on. I don't know if that had any effect on the charging issue, but I took
the icon off the homescreen and am using the power button only, for now.
I don't think both batteries are faulty at the same time at this point. I
don't know if the screen off app caused some wake issue that interferes with
charging the battery.
I do know that when plugging in the phone to charge there's a bit of clunkiness
initially as the phone locks for a second before allowing use for screen or app
and that's always been the case since the gb update. Also, the LED doesn't
always turn green from amber when fully charged with the screen off until
you reboot or use the phone in some way while still plugged in. So there is
some kind of wake issue in the stock ROM. But the latter has never stopped
the battery from charging.
I do know that Plume, the twitter app, started acting clunky with not updating
in the background unless I opened the app at least once after a reboot. But
I don't know if the latter is a wake issue.
Battery still seems normal. Heavy normal use, lots of SMS, tweets, Pulse reading,
Dolphin browsing, I'll kill 50% or more of the battery in 4+ hours. Otherwise, the
phone mostly in standby with periodic email and twitter reads, the battery lasts
all day or more than 24 hours. But the latter rarely happens anymore because I'm
a user.
The battery just went full charge with the stock charging cable just now.
This morning, I woke up with a dead phone, auto shutoff even though it was
plugged in which I did after solitaire and before going to sleep; as a charging
test.
I don't know if it's the phone or the Cellet retractable cord or both that's
stopping the battery from fully charging normally and consistently. I'll need
to get another data-charge combo chord and do more testing; and a new ROM.
Any ideas anybody?
try a new rom and also try using the stock charger and usb cable. Check inside your usb port on your phone for dust as well. Also go into recovery and wipe your battery stats. In the wipe menu for amonRa and under advanced (maybe here, i dont use cwm on my phone) in clockworkmod. also wipe your dalvik-cache just to clear any issues you may have, restart and give it a test. good luck
I just bought a phone with a broken charger port. Broke clean off the board, so my next step is to try to get liquid solder and stick it to the board. Did you take ur phone apart to see if the port is lose?
So I used the stock USB charging chord. Sure enough, it charged the phone.
Then I tried the portable charger at the coffee shop, worked. So the Cellet retractable
chord obviously had a short or something damaged/shorted for the charging part of
the cable after a year + of use and abuse.
What I don't understand, and haven't researched, is why there are charge only
chords; the stock USB HTC chord charges the phone, but the PC won't recognize
the phone's Micro SD card or the phone as an external drive. I presume the duo use
chords have a data path as well as a charging path. And yes, I know to switch the
phone from charge only to disk drive. The Cellet chord would provide the PC with
recognition for the phone's drive.
Considering the latter, what I'm not sure of, and haven't researched, is why when
the phone stopped charging, the chord eventually stopped charging, the phone
status still showed it as charging; the amber LED light on and the battery icon
in charging animation with white bolt showing? I presume that the charging path
still triggered the charging status, except once when I turned the screen back
on the battery icon was not animated and the white bolt not showing so I unplugged
the chord then plugged it back in where the battery icon animation continued.
Fortunately, or not, this forum returned 600+ results for 'battery not charging' and after
sifting through a few, the charging chord was mentioned which prevented a Sprint trip
and me contacting Seido; thankfully.
So I think manufacturers and ROM/kernel developers should visit this issue as a chord
that actually is not charging, or charging at an absurdly low rate, should trigger some alert
and not show a battery icon animation that appears to be charging normally.
Recently successfully replaced the LCD screen on my Acer A100. Device worked fine for some time after that repair. Wanting to get a secondary charger for use at work I went to radio shack. Sales "tech" tried several different adapters, found one that fit inside he port, but wiggled. She plugged it in but device wasn't showing a charge. Decided to order one from online. At home the device still would not charge with its own charger. Thought maybe the charger was faulty. Ordered two more. Still the A100 turned off when charger plugged in. Figured tech had burned out the a/c port. Ordered and installed a new one. Still A100 turns off immediately when charger is plugged in. I have 3 chargers now - same results with all 3. Have now ordered a docking station to utilize (hopefully) charging ability through 40 pin connector.
If this connection creates same shut down am I looking at a battery replacement? AM sitting at 33% battery level now, device shut down completely.
Acer wants 199.00 prepaid to submit to them for repair - this is more than I paid for the device! Not really an expense I am willing to pay if all it needs is a battery. There is no erratic behavior , just immediate shutdown as soon as a charger is connected. Any ideas?

If its doing it on 3 chargers its sounding more like a board charging circuit issue. You could remove the battery and then see if it behaves normally, that'll be battery or board right there. Or if you have a multi meter test output at the battery connector.

Don't have a multi meter. Tried connection via new docking station, got same response: device immediately shut off. Tried your suggestion, disconnected battery connected to docking station, got immediate shut off. Same with charger via a/c port. :crying: Mainboard is out? But Device responds and acts normal when in battery mode - or is this isolated to the charging circuit part of the main board?

Sounds like its tripping on the charger circuit and cutting out, like a breaker tripping. IMO look carefully for any shorts on the boards, even something stupid like dog hair can cause strange things to happen. A good blasting with air wouldn't hurt either. It could even be the dock port as it does charge from there and is subject to debris also.

Thanks again for more suggestions. Yup I have been over the board and all connections with a looking glass. Changed out the A/C dock port. My suspicion is that when the Radio Shack tech powered up the "Almost fits" adapter it blew whatever breaker the board has.
When I had it connected to the docking station with the battery disconnected, it powered on, then immediately shut off. So this definitely sounds like a "blown fuse". I completely disassembled and reassembled it again (except for the LCD screen) and checked all connections and plugs. Nothing visible to indicate a burnout or cross connection.
No odd smells either. Probably some teensy weensy transistor or resistor or something. I am not an electrician - just good at R & R.
Another visit to ebay and I am parting with 50 bucks for a "factory refurbished" motherboard. In the mean time, my beloved tablet will await further surgery. Will keep you posted. Board should be here by Saturday. I hope so - battery is down to 27%. Thanks again for weighing in!

To bad considering the crappy battery life so its not like you can charge some other way and swap the battery around.
Example, I have a bricked unit that charges but doesn't otherwise work, so I mean using my bricked board to charge it and the non charge board for use. The a100 isn't really a good setup for swapping around lol. I may actually be interested in that board now that I think about it...

If I could figure out a way to charge the battery OTHER than through the board - I would! Which got me to thinking. One COULD get a second rear panel, cut a door in it, install teensy weensy hinges or create a hinge with cloth tape. then make some sort of extension cord for the battery charging cord, plug it in to the "external" charging board and refill the battery that way.
With a working board and the right know how, one could just extract the board, put it in a box and make a charger out of it too.
But that is just my brain rattling around ideas. :silly: Hopefully this new "refurbished" mother board will do the trick and I will learn my lesson and NEVER let a sales "tech" attempt trial adapters! at 10 minutes to 9pm tonight it was in Texas....

Oh fer cryin out loud! The motherboard has arrived, I have installed it. Can plug n the charger and drop it onto the docking station and now I get the same response for both charging options: Charge LED lights up orange solid for just about 60 seconds, then begins blinking. Device doesn't respond when power button is pushed UNLESS it is plugged in, and then it just sits at the "ACER" screen.led changes to blue.
OK, wait a minute, this is the third time I have turned it on while plugged in. Acer screen has moved to Android, Device has started. Battery icon showing a question mark. 23%
Turned off, turned back on, now battery shows only 3%????
Think I saw something on the forums about that. will go on a quest.

Shhh, don't want to disturb my device....
Found folks on other forums with similar issues of the Acer A100 tablet showing only 3% charge. I removed and inserted the charging pin several times, the device would show solid orange led for about one minute then start blinking. Turned the device on when charger plugged in, unlocked the screen, then with device still plugged in I shut it down completely. Removed charger. Plugged it back in and so far the led is staying at solid orange.
Please keep your fingers crossed for me! This has been quite the roller coaster ride of discovery. Will leave it be for overnight (what is left of the overnight). Then peek at it in the morning. With any luck at all it will have accepted a full charge and I will be greeted with a functioning device! I almost want to learn a new trade..
well now that is weird, got up this morning to a nice blue charge indicator. Yay! Unplugged charger, press on button, hold, hold, hold, hold, hold and device does not start up. Dang it! Plugged it back in, led went solid orange, then started blinking again! Pressed and held on button. Device came on. battery meter shows 3% and a question mark! HUH?
have device plugged in, settings of course show android version 3.2.1 for this motherboard. Guess I need to upgrade it to ICS maybe that will resolve this weird battery issue? Hope soemone here has ideas, feels like I am soooo close to resolving this.

Now I want to share my experience regarding battery load sharing:
I have allso problems to charge the battery.
I have on my tab, for example, 40% of battery power.
I turn my tab off.
When i plugged the charging cable in it shows me the orange led for load.
After two hours or more i turned the tab on.
It shows me not more than 40% but only 37% or so.
So not loaded. This was a bad sign....
I dont no was happend.
I get a little bit nervous but when the tab not get power it doesnt work....
After two/three hours the battery was empty.
Now i can only start my tab while plugged the charging cabel in because the battery will not load.
I have tried several options to find a solution (disconnect the battery, install a new battery, etc. ....).
My solution was fairly straightforward:
I open the tab. Look where the power comes in.
Of the charging socket go four (two red and two black) cable to the motherboard and from the motherboard it goes seven (two red, two black and for me not so important three other coloured cabels) to the battery.
I organized four thin wire and soldered it from the charging socket directly to the battery (of course red to red black to black ).
The result:
When i plugged the charging cabel in while android is running i get no information to load and it shows me not to.
But when i turned the tab off and on again it shows me that it has the battery charged :fingers-crossed: .
After on night while the charger plugged in the battery is fully loaded!!
And of course i get the information in android the discharging of the battery but this is an normaly thing!
So, the problem to load the battery for me is solved .
I hope it helps a little bit for everyone!

I really hope other isn't any voltage or amperage changes needed of that can blow that battery up real quick, plus it can't stop charging, you'll need to monitor that yourself.
Thanks for the info though, it does appear to be yet another somewhat common bug these have that can be addressed by a user if they feel the need to.

I think the charger there is a shutdown would otherwise overload the battery, right?
Or do this the motherboard?
Anyway, for me the tab is fully working now and if the battery is broken, it is not a big expense to replace them .

I was saying the board is in charge of cutting the battery charge off, not the charger itself so maybe keep an eye on it, its a good way for an explosion or fire.

A100 tablet not charging still
Frischies is much braver than I am.
Wiring the battery direct to the charging port- I would definitely worry about burning up the battery or causing a fire - especially while charging when I sleep. I have had more than my fair share of run ins with fire.
The Motherboard I ordered arrived and I installed it. It was listed as "factory refurbished", but unfortunately will not accept a charge. I thought it had charged overnight at one point, but all it does is blink orange and the battery reads 3% or 0%. Turning the device off when plugged in and doing a reset has not helped. The vendor has been gracious to do a replacement, so I will follow that route until I get a working motherboard.
I have discovered that the docking station will be a welcome addition to my Acer tablet paraphernalia! Although this model docking station isn't the one that allows HDMI throughput, it still will be nice for music, and other media. A Bluetooth keyboard and the tablet will offer yet another computer tool!
First things first though, get the tablet to accept a charge - until then it is a really wide flat paper weight! I am getting VERY adept at opening the tablet and removing the internals!
It is working again! The motherboard sent was defective but vendor issued an RMA. Received the replacement yesterday, installed it last night. Charged over night and fully functional this morning! Ahhh it feels good to have my little buddy back again. Didn't realize how much I used it, until I couldn't use it! Thanks to all for the help.

Just got my M8 first time I turn it on it had half charged battery. I drained it to a point when I turned it on two times and than it went dead. I mean I could not turn it on. When I connected the charger no light came on and no response from phone. I leave it till toomorow and see if it will turn on.
I fear HTC is using the same chip for controling battery charge in M8 which if flawed by infamous HTC charging bug. If this is the case it is really start annoyng me and htc m8 will be my last HTC phone. I had so far Wildfire, Sensation ,Desire and all off them had a charging bug. Wildfire and Desire would not show the battery full even though battery voltage was at full charge. My luck? Or HTC has some poor quality components? My S2 still charges battery fine till today.
Ok. Anyone can check their M8 if you have charge bug if you battery is almost drained off power if it will turn on or stay dead?
If my won't wake up tommorow after all night at charging I'm gona exchange it on warranty and see another sample has the same charge bug.
Why HTC is not doing something with this CHARGE BUG on the newest devices? Puzzeles me.
I brought mine to 1%, cycled the power, then used it again till it died. Plugged it in, charging icon came on right away, charging light as well. Hope this answers your question, I didn't really read the whole post.

My M8 has just died because it wont charge, happened just yesterday. I left it plugged in over night and still nothing. Its a holiday here at the moment so have to wait until Wednesday for HTC to open.
Possibly The same Problem, Possibly Not?

I've been having loads of problems having unlocked, rooted, S-Off, SuperCID & installing the ARHD ROM on my M8 (International) but it was, in a fashion, working. I too am on holiday & whilst I now know why I was having the issues & have the solution to them, I didn't have time before I left to resolve them. So, I brought it away with me to use for basic currency conversion & translation tasks & it was, as I say, functional. Last night, I decided to play a game on it & it was being laggy but I put this down to the issues I've been having, so didn't worry. It kept being laggy, so I tried restarting it to see if that would help but once it had powered down, it took ages to reboot, so I tried using the power button to switch it on. Again, it took ages & I briefly fell asleep but when I woke up, it had booted back into ARHD, so I figured all was okay.
However, when I awoke this morning, the device would not switch on. I plugged it in to see if something had caused the battery to drain during the night but nothing happens; the charging light doesn't come on & it doesn't power up, no matter how long I leave it! It is, to all intents & purposes, behaving as though it is dead (bricked?) but I don't know why it should suddenly do this, which is why I was looking for answers & came across this thread.
If anyone has any bright ideas, I'd be more than grateful to hear them
Mine needed a replacement charging board and chip unfortunately but HTC Vietnam was pretty fast, only took 3 days so wasn't too painful.

Yes, this sounds like a very isolated bug/defect. Since it is not reported by very many, the best course of action is RMA. ?
My T-mobile HTC ONE M8 has done this as well, however I was after serveral hours of trying everything I could think of, connecting it to the computer and various chargers and trying to hold volume up and power and replugging it to charger, it finally started charging. This has happened 2 times in the last 2 weeks.
Now that it's charging I wonder if HTC will take it and replace the charging board or battery. I also worry that I have it rooted and s=off that they won't honor the warranty.
There is something similar to this going on with mine - Was charging (maybe quite slowly), battery very low, phone reset. Booted into charging screen, amber light flashing. After a while (and trying to boot a few times), no light, nothing. Charge current is 0.00A
Edit: I remember something like this with the old Desire - there was a trick to reset the charging circuit, which was maybe locked up and not getting a good po_reset, so never enabling any charge. Something along the lines of unplug, hold some buttons for some time, plug, profit... Does anyone remember this in detail?

I have a particular case. My phone is a HTC One M8, but I have protected it with a special case with a battery extension, home made. I have assembled myself the batteries, chargers and boosters. My booster has a small issue and does not enter safe mode when battery is low. It warns about low batt with a LED, but still tries to deliver 5V. The booster is connected to the phone via a flat cable, stolen from a wireless charger; those chargers have the smallest USB plus I could find ever, and, I found this plug only in these decvices.
When the main battery of the phone is empty, I switch the booster on, and recharge the phone with the backpack. I have to look at the LED; when it's red, I have to switch it off. Everynight, everything get charged on the same single plug. One plug to charge both batts.
The advantages of my solution are:
- phone can last 18h with heavy work (wifi, bluetooth, GPS, and screen on, continuously)
- heavy case to protect my phone, plus tampered glass
- one plug to charge everything
- the micro-micro USB plug is ALWAYS in the phone. This means, the female plug of phone can not get dirty, or filled with dust. I never unplug it, so it does not age. I never plug a classic USB cable directly in the phone, so, no chance to break it. I have broken 3 or 4 times the back charger plug; if I am in hurry, I can exceptionally charge the phone directly; next day home, I can fix it.
This night, I was using my phone, and switched the backpack on. I could not plug my wall charger, because it's home made, has an issue, and makes the virtual keyboard erratic. I fell asleep with the phone in my hand, and the backpack went red ... for 4 hours. During 4 hours, it was trying to deliver 5V, and failed at so. Since my battery was delivering an unstable +5V, the phone was trying to charge, was staying on, but could not properly charge. In the end, all batteries got flat.
This morning, when I woke up, I plugged the stuff; only the back-batt started charging. Phone itself refused to charge; screen was black, and charging LED stayed off. So, I fell in what we call the "phone refuses to charge".
But, because of my set-up, I can *NOT* be in the dirty or broken plug case. Just impossible. And because of context, I just knew I had a flatt battery. This is technically called "deep discharged". And it contributes to aging of batt. Like overcharging, this heavily affects the total capacity.
I knew I could fix the issue by opening the phone, and putting a LiPo charger directly on the batt lines. I have loads of standalone chargers. I had a standalone wall charger for my previous HTC Sensation. But with the M8, we can not just open the case, and take the batt out. It's much more complicated. So, I have been Googling for more than half an hour. 95% results were about "remove dust of plug" and "bring it to the shop to change your plug". Some people also mention "a bug in the charger chipset".
I have plugged the phone on a classic USB charger, but via an USB meter monitor:

The USB meter was indicating 5V 0.03 A (or 9V 0.01 A, depending on source). So, the phone was using a bit of energy, but clearly not charging. I have left it 4h. Just in case, can not harm.
Then, I pressed together power, and volume up. The phone started to boot after 55 or 65s. About one minute; but clearly way longer than 42 or 47s found on forums. It started directly to some rescue mode, then, started to boot normally, without doing anything. Just released buttons during the first white screen. After booting, I have a normal phone. Did not need to perform any action. During boot, the phone had 2% batt, and was charging normaly. But, the charger LED remained off; I waited 5mn, untill I got 4%, unplugged the charger, replugged, and then got the orange LED.
Remember that your M8 can accept up to 9V on input. QC2 Chargers are really faster: with 9V 1.5A, you can charge your M8 from 0% to 100% in 95mn, even if you are intensively using it (gaming, wifi, GPS). Next gen phone will accept 12V. Even if manufacturers ignore that. HTC buys chips, and don't fully read specs. Aukey chargers are more powerfull and better reliable than official HTC ones.
Remember that many "slow charging" issues are in fact due to bad cable: charger is good, phone is good, but cable in between has high gauge copper, too thin wires, and produces voltage drop between plugs. HTC phones require 4.4V at the plug.
Remember that M8 and most modern phones (same for Samsung) are now MHL (wrongly called OTG): they are true USB hosts; you can plug any device on your phone; just buy an MHL (OTG) cable for 4 euros, and then a USB hub, and then any device: mouse, keyboard, USB monitor, ethernet dongle, SATA adapter, CF-uSD adapter ... and for 12 euros you have HDMI converters. Modern smartphones are real computers. Use them.
I wanted to share this in case anyone ever experiences the same problem. I had my Note 4 since it was released in October and didn't have any issues until roughly a week ago. All of a sudden, the phone would not fast charge. Whenever connected to the fast charging adapter, it would detect it and charge, but it would not give the fast charge notification and would charge extremely slowly (8 hours to get a full charge from near empty). In addition, my PCs would no longer be able to access it and the phone would not give the MTP option menu when connected. I tried multiple cables, outlets, fast chargers, and batteries in addition to toggling the fast charge setting, wiping the cache, and performing a factory reset - but nothing helped. I finally called verizon and they sent me a new note 4 and everything was working again.....
Three days passed and the same exact issue occurred again on the replacement phone. This makes me believe that the Samsung charger I have has somehow deteriorated and is now breaking the usb connectivity on the phone. I contacted samsung and am getting a replacement for the charger and will have to get ANOTHER replacement phone from verizon (after they finish processing my first replacement).
So if anyone has a similar issue, I would suggest getting a new charger in addition to the phone replacement so you don't have to go through the entire process again. I could be wrong that the charger caused this, but I can't think of anything else besides the recent lollipop upgrade - but everything was working for several days on lollipop for both phones.
If anyone has ideas on how to fix this, please let me know. I can't return the second phone until the first one is processed so no fast charging or PC connection until then. Thanks

Same Issues and I have three fast chargers so it is not the charger it is the phone or the 5.0 update.
Mine was not really even charging unless I turned the phone off. I called Verizon and they are sending me a replacement phone overnight. It would not connect to the computer either. I hope this is not a result of fast charging, if so they are gonna get a lot of phone calls
I also have another fast charger which wasn't working... I was thinking that my main charger was breaking the phones USB connectivity and fast charging, but if others are having the same problem then I am wondering if it is something related to the lollipop update. I am replacing the main charger and should have another replacement note 4 come Friday. If it happens again, then I think it points to the lollipop update since both phones had this issues days after lollipop was installed.

Had the same issue. Used a different wire. Solved the problem. Any Micro USB that can transfer data, can use fast charge. If it's a "power only" cable, or if the data pins/wires are messed up, no fast charge.

Well the problem was that all the cables were working and then stopped. When I got the replacement phone they worked and then a few days later the same thing happened again. So something was causing the connection to break completely. I am hoping that the cause was the charger which I am replacing.
Word of advice: if it stops charging normally In ANY way. THROW AWAY THE CHARGER. I made the same mistake and my Note 4 literally lit on fire melting the lower 1/2 inch of my phone and completely melting the charger. It was so hot by the time I was able to yank the cord out both the phone and charger were melted and destroyed and I ended up with three fingers with minor burns. I am lucky it did not happen when I was sleeping with my infant nearby. I now charge my phone only in the day and on a granite counter in case of fire again.
It stopped fast charging. Then I used the charger again and got a message saying "Transferring power to high powered device" then wham 2" flames
Verizon kept claiming it couldnt happen and thought I used a aftermarket charger until I brought the phone and charger to a corporate store and they prompytly replaced both the phone and charger under factory warranty.
I have three samsung original fast chargers and none of them worked plus the fact that the phone could not be connected to any computer I have makes me think it was the phone. I got the new phone today so I guess time will tell. I just can't see three chargers and cables going bad all at the same time. I also did not take the 5.0 update on the new phone.
my replacement phone stopped fast charging and computer will not recognize it now. I used a different cable that was plugged into the fast charge module from Samsung. I guess that is what caused it. They are sending another phone but for C sake if a cable is the reason this happens surely there should be a fix without replacing the phone time after time.
I finally received the new phone from Verizon and I replaced all the cables I was using to make sure this doesn't happen again. Hopefully the charger was the culprit and the problem is over and done with. Hope no one else encounters this as it really was a pain to deal with.
I got my third phone Monday and so far so good. I had a car charger from Verizon plugged into an extender that had 4 plugs in it. When I unplugged my GPS from it I noticed it was very hot. The Verizon Charger was also hot even though nothing was plugged into it. This may have been what caused my issue. It could have overheated. I replaced it with a different brand and tested to make sure it stayed cool when anything was plugged in and have used it all week without issues. The only other thing could have been the USB cable I used the evening before the second phone stopped fast charging so I do not use it either. So if you use a car charger extender check to see if it gets hot when anything is plugged in. BUT, it is scary knowing something like this can kill the USB on this phone.
I have an external Hard-drive that would constantly disconnect and reconnect with the slightest movement of the cord connected to the computer. It even caused my H/D to get corrupted twice requiring re-formatting. But all I had to do to fix it was to squeeze the big connector on the cord a little and tighten it up. Just a thought.
It's been a week since I received my third phone and everything is working perfectly. I can only assume the charger was breaking it and I'm glad the issue is behind me.
So for anyone experiencing this, I suggest contacting Samsung to replace the charger before going to your cell provider to replace the phone
I'm having the same exact problem. My 2nd replacement phone is now doing the same thing as the first one. I have too many scenarios now though and I'm confused as to which it is. I have two Adaptive chargers.. Batteries, phone, or chargers...
As soon as I replaced the charger, I didn't have this issue again. I suggest sending your chargers back to Samsung (or whatever other brand you have) because one of them is breaking the phones

I would place my bet on a bad cable. With the higher voltages that fast charge uses going through the danger of arching and sparking is increased especially if there's a poor connection would fry or weld melt metal inside the connector. This could damage the USB port in the phone and cause the phone's USB port to have a bad connection. This bad USB port in the phone could fry the other cables as well leaving you wondering why everything went bad all at once
My phone will fast charge on my two vehicle chargers (at 1.5 amps and 2.1 amps), but refuses to change any faster than 500 mA on two separate fast charger bricks. The same bricks work fine for fast charging other phones, so it's my phone, not the charging hardware. I'm using the same cable(s) for all instances, which leads me to believe that something is wrong with how the phone interprets the "smart charging" signal on the bricks, or that the phone is sending the wrong charging signal.
I can still connect to a computer just fine, so my issue may be different.
Does anyone else have the issue with bricks but not with chargers without "smart charging" capabilities?
I've had this problem on stock 5.1.1, Jasmine rom 6.0.1, and now CM13. I full wiped everything when reinstalling, so either it's hardware, or an issue propigated through many roms. I've tried a few different kernels too, just to see if that was the problem.
I'm changing the battery tomorrow to check that possibility. Maybe I'll bend the contact a slight bit and see what happens (phone catches on fire)...

Turns out one out of the three new cables I bought didn't work, and my OEM cable didn't work for fast charging. Swapping for a good cable fixed the issue.

My phone (almost 2 years old, changed LCD for three times) started to lose a lot of its battery capacity from a month ago, and since yesterday I realized something's wrong with it, as it had some trouble charging the battery. At first, I was using my phone and its battery was around 20%, and then as soon as I connected the charger (genuine fast charge) it turned off and the red LED indicator kept turning on and off and refused to charge. then after a reboot, it started charging again, and then I left it charging at the night and at the morning I realized it only charged to 60% and the red LED didn't turn on at all. And now that all the battery is drowned out it's not charging at all and drawing no current from the charger ([email protected]).
Has anyone had any experience with it before? Is this a battery problem or the USB charging port flex cable which has some ICs on it (example)?
I'd appreciate your answers.
I can't tell from your story that you tried another charger ? I recall a similar charging issue from my HTC One X a few years back.
Replaced the charger and all issues disappeared.

Yes I have, Also seconds before it ran out completely I tried to check if adb works. connected it to my laptop and on the bootloader mode the adb recognized the device but the red LED didn't light up.

That's correct because a device doesn't charge in bootloader mode. Only off state, running OS or Dr TWRP recovery.
If you tried a different charger it can be pretty much only down to hardware, can't give any advice at that level.

I'm afraid not, only the custom one.
I had almost the same problem with my phone. I sent it to a repair center and acording to their report, the circuit which is responsible for the monitoring of the charging process had a loose connection. Maybe because I dropped the phone a few times. Unfortunatly the circuits of modern phones are all on the same circuit board, so they had to change the whole motherboard of the phone. But now everything works fine.
So I just opened the phone and disconnect/reconnected the battery connector and it eventually started charging with the stock charger, but it charged up to 60% and then stopped. retried the same steps and no luck this time. then I tried charging the battery with an external li-ion charger (I know it's a dangerous task )
this time it charged up to 4.11 volts and then I turned on the phone and again the battery dropped to 60%. so I believe the battery is really dead and needs replacement. I'll update you when I replace it.

Turns out I was wrong, my case was similar to yours. had to waste $9 on a battery to find out
it just fixed by disconnecting/reconnecting the USB connector bottom of the board, but I don't know how the flex cable for the back button got cut so now I have to replace the whole bottom circuit ($17 approx.) :crying:

So I went through the hurdle of replacing my battery and charge port, and the battery transplant went well, went from 70% to 100% battery health (yay!).
The first charge port I purchased (this is all eBay stuff) had a busted Recents button (copper trace in ribbon cable was nicked - when the part was removed from original phone for sure), so I complained and got a replacement; second one works well.
And because all bad things come in threes, the phone developed an echo (on the opposite side of the conversation) which I think I caused by ripping a bit of the mic rubber isolator which points towards the mic hole in the battery cover.
I believe I fixed it (still testing) by glueing some foam padding on the backside of the mic (on the charge port PCB, facing the battery cover).
Long story short, opening up the phone is a b###h, so do multiple repairs together, be careful not to break anything else (easier said....).

So here's an update, First of all, I'm pretty happy with the battery replacement, It can hold like 10 hours of my usage while the old one could handle up to 6-8 lately, it's unbranded, and I got it from a local phone part store.
Second, the replacement for the charger flex turned out to be pretty good quality, and I've had no problems with it so far. I got it for $11 from AliExpress, but now it's about $10.5. But when I replaced everything and tried to reassemble the phone and tighten the screws it showed up with charging problems again, and I tried disassemble/reassembling the phone and reconnecting the charger flex, and the next time it charged but with no fast charge, so in the next try I also tried cleaning the flex connector with cleaning alcohol, and for the third try it finally started charging with no problems.
So now after like 2 weeks, it's had no problems so far.
