So, will there be a custom recovery like TWRP to be seen soon for this device ?? The privacy issues with the Security app and MI App store is killing MIUI alongwith us. So, hoping for custom ROMs to arrive..

I Tried and its asking me to wait for 168 hours that's 7 days

Great it's time to test some builds and contribute to the development of the device. Do join our telegram group if you're not there yet.

Anti rollback on redmi n5p

Hello everyone i wanted your suggestion on whether to buy redmi n5p or not now that it has anti rollback what would u suggest i should buy this device or asus Zenfone max pro m1. Please Help Me.
yes you can buy rn5 as all the phone that available on store now still using miui 9 so you will not be affected.
For development prefer Redmi Note 5 pro over Zenfone Max Pro M1.

With the release of Android Oreo, Google introduced anti-rollback feature as a security measure which ensures that your data is safe when your device is stolen or if any attacker tries to downgrade.
But according to Google's documentation, the anti-rollback feature should be turned-off automatically when the bootloader is unlocked. But when Xiaomi implemented anti-rollback, they made it impossible for the user to disable that even by unlocking bootloader due to which few users ended up with bricked devices.
And this is the violation of Google's documentation. Hopefully they'll push an update soon to tackle this issue and if they don't, our beloved devs will sure find a way
So, if you want development then Redmi Note 5 Pro is your cup of tea go ahead and buy it there's nothing to worry about "anti-rollback" else go for Zenfone Max Pro M1.
Anti roll back is a system which enabled & can be disabled but the rn5p is good device...if you do everything except flashing roms manually nothing bad will happen

Redmi 6 pro with ROM A2 Lite is possibility?

it would be possible to load the global rom of A2 Lite in Redmi 6 pro, thanks
If it's like the Mi 5X and Mi A1 situation (and probably it is), the answer is no.
If you want to risk (but I warn you that the risk to brick your phone is high, and it's all your responsibility, you can flash the full Mi A2 Lite ROM from here via MiFlash or via fastboot. If something goes wrong you can try to flash back the Redmi 6 Pro ROM from here, always via MiFlash or fastboot.
EDIT: I downloaded the full ROMs of both phones, and after a quick comparison, I can see that they use a different partitioning scheme (classic for 6Pro, A/B type for A2L), so 99,9% a direct ROM flash won't work (just like Mi A1).
thank friend, I will not try.
I need global versiĆ³n for spanish lenguaje.
thanks again for solving my question.
Why don't you use the Xiaomi.eu version?
First of all, you must unlock the bootloader of your phone.
Then you need a working TWRP. This one is confirmed working but you need to register in this German forum to download it.
Then go to Xiaomi.eu forum and download the latest beta for HM6Pro (I usually prefer the stable version, but it's not ready yet for 6Pro) and flash it via TWRP.
I have some doubt
the unlocking of the bootloader is the same as for A1 and all Xiaomi?
What is the latest beta version?
sorry for my ignorance
Very thanks.

No, for the MIUI phones this is the unlocking process (it's the tutorial for the Redmi Note 4X, but it works for every MIUI phone).
For the Android One phones (i.e. Mi A1, Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite) the unlocking is extremely simpler.

You can find the latest beta here.
Go to the newest directory and search for the ROM with the name "xiaomi.eu_multi_HM6Pro..." (remember that HM6Pro is your phone code, while its nickname is "sakura"). If you can't find the image for your phone on the newest directory, search it on the second newest directory, and so on.
There is usually a new beta every 7 days, but you don't need to update every week if the phone is working without problems.
okay friend, I'll try. Thank you very much for the help. If I have any doubt I will bother you again.

No.
As I said above, you cannot flash A2 Lite ROM on Redmi 6 Pro. That means you cannot flash Redmi 6 Pro ROM on A2 Lite, too.
I would like to do the opposite. Installing the xiaomi.eu on the MiA2 Lite as I prefer MIUI over AOSP interface.
Is it possible without risks? I fear the double partition prevent me from succeding

It's not very safe to do, and 99% it will not work. But if you want to take the risk, do it. Just keep ready the daisy fastboot ROM for fixing. And don't lock the bootloader or the damage will be unrecoverable.
May be my question is stupide, but is it possible to change the partitioning scheme from A/B type to classic for example. If it will be, can changing easy the ROM? Or something else? If it possible, how can I do this?
Thank you!

I already wrote how it could be possible: flashing the Redmi 6 Pro ROM in EDL mode.
But you need permission from Xiaomi to flash in EDL mode, and you can flash only one time for account.
You can ask for permission on en.miui.com forum.
And, as I said, I would not try that on my phone.
I have already unlocked the bootloader but I have a question, and tried to install the ROM through Xiaomi miflash and I get error (miflash can not found file flash_all_lock.bat). Also read in this forum that there is possibility of bricked for version 9.6.17.0, this is true?
Any Update ? OR Any Improvement ?
O Have mi A2 Lite, Android one don't like me. Miui.eu Rock!!! Anyone port this ROM please

Really annoy xiaomi models: redmi note 5? note 5 pro? or note 5 plus? which rom?

I already bought a global version redmi note 5. all works fine. But from aliexpress it arrives in about 26 days.
I need another phone soon. So asked someone to bring one from China directly - redmi note 5.
I am going to flash the global rom by myself. But while searching online, someone said I need the redmi note 5 pro ROM, and there's also redmi note 5 ROM and redmi Note 5 plus ROM. Which one should I choose?
is it possible to flash global ROM by myself? or it will brick the phone?
anyone has the similar experience? from China version Redmi Note 5 to Global version Redmi Note 5.

On one hand there is Redmi note 5 Pro and Redmi note 5 AI. They share the codename WHYRED. Both have Snapdragon 636. Also dual camera setup. Most ROMS for whyred means they will work on both these phones.
On the other hand there is Redmi 5 Plus. It has a snapdragon 625 and a single camera. I believe the codename is VINCE for Redmi 5 plus.
new at xiaomi that if your phone is china region you cant install golbal rom. and viceversa global phone cant install china rom. i read it on miui forum. do some research on that before buyinh china region phone .

It looks like this should be redmi note 5 AI, that's how xiaomi advertises it in China. The current one global version I got from aliexpress has dual camera as well. But hardly to say it's AI or not.
Thanks for your reply. I'll download some whyred ROM to give it a go. Really scared to brick it as there is no way to unbrick but visit xiaomi service center, which has none locally here.

Really thanks for your reply. I'm going to jump on the same boat as you now. From my research, I need:
1 unlocked BL using one xiaomi account old enough (than 360 hours)
2 download global ROM from some where.
3 flash in fastboot.
Any advice on that? Is it difficult to flash? Anything I missed? Do I need turn any other options in develop mode like USB debug or anything similar?

If you plan to unlock UBL first you can flash the recovery rom via updater instead flashing via fastboot. It is more convenient if you rarely touch the pc
redmi note 5 is VINCE
redmi note 5 pro is WHYRED
so any miui rom having name mentioned VINCE is NOT for you!

Normally when you are on Official stable or developer MIUI ROM, you can just download the recovery file of any other Official MIUI rom and use the updater app(just select the update package and it will start installing). It works a lot of the times. So you dont really need unlocked bootloader if this method works. Please note that it works on official MIUI roms only.
In case it doesn't work you need to unlock the bootloader. Then you have two options. Either you can use TWRP recovery to flash recovery file ROMS(usually a .zip file). Or you can use fastboot roms for which you need a pc(with miflash tool).
One ANNOYING thing about bootloader unlocking. You have to add the Mi account to your phone manually(in developer options). After that there is a cooldown of 72,360 or 720 hours depending on your phone model. Mostly its 720 hours now. After the cooldown you can unlock your bootloader.

In some places the Redmi 5 plus is known as simply the Redmi Note 5. It causes a lot of confusion.

Thanks for your clarification. I got one zip file from miui global forum download page. It looks like to be the recovery file you mentioned. Thank God I knew this from you since I thought it was the full fastboot flashable ROM. Who knows what will happen if I flash it via fastboot.
Another one from this forum is a tgz, unzip to tar. It might be the proper fastboot file but a version before anti rollback. I need to get the new phone in hand to check if I can flash it nor not.
I got my mi account e months ago. Should be OK to flash without waiting 720h. Hope so at least.

You need Unlocked bootloader to flash fastboot ROM. MiFlash will throw error message saying this cannot be flashed in locked bootloader.
One advantage of MiFlash is, software checks bootloader index and if you try to flash older version arb3 ROM(without antirollback) then software throws error message, unable to flash because bootloader index(anti3) is lesser than the present bootloader index(anti4)
Most of the people bricked their device while flashing older version of MIUI ROM in TWRP because twrp recovery will not check bootloader index value
Downloaded recovery ROM name starts with HMNote5ProGlobal
and downloaded fastboot ROM name starts with WHYRED these ROMs are for Redmi note 5 Pro (Indian version) and Redmi Note 5 (Global)
In India we have Redmi note 5 (Redmi 5 plus global) codenamed Vince

Unfortunately, that wont work. My mi account is really old(3 years, unlocked bootloader of note 3 and 3 pro). Still I had to wait for 360h after adding mi account to my new Note 5 AI. And there is a new rule afaik and the waiting period is 720 hours now. Which translates to about a month. It is really frustrating, I know.
One more thing, "adding mi account" is not just logging in your mi account of your phone. You have to add the account in developer options.

Thanks for the feedback on the method. Could you also share with us on this thread when/if you find a way to put MIUI on Mi a2 lite?
Hello readers,
i've bought an A2 lite for testing purposes and was also interested in modding the device - rund MIUI on it would be fantastic.
After reading some posts here and in the Mi A2 thread i thought i was ready to try the transformation
Unlocked the A2 lite, prepared the fastboot images.
I tried it with older Android 8.1 images dated July 2018 because they had the same Version state V9.4.x.x and to avoid a brick because of the later introduced Anti-Rollback function.
Sadly the partition information & structure of the Mi A2 and the Mi A2 lite differs in some very important parts (partition scheme & image file type).
There is missing at least one corresponding image file/partition on the A2 lite compared to the A2.
Tried to get to know if there is any possible alternate image to choose but was not successful.
Flashing failed everytime therefore i tried to go the way vice versa
Took the flash files from the Redmi 6 Pro and the ddr & bootloader files from Mi A2 lite.
Changed the checksums and flashed that bundle.
Flashing SEEMED to be successful desvice rebooted and BECAME A WONDERFUL BRICK on my desk.
Conclusion: Kids don't try this at home!
It was not possible to tun the device on again!
... have not tried to open the device and go to EDL-Mode because of the fact that there was no life sign from device at all.
I'll try some other methods within the next weeks with a new unit arrived a couple of days ago but we may have to accept that an conversion is not possible.

Updating tru OTA, unlocked bootloader.

I have a question about whether is it possible to update via OTA on miui 12.0.0.4 global on Redmi note 8 pro with bootloader unlocked. Will I be able to receive future updates and install without any problems? Upon checking my device's recovery, I have miui stock recovery version 3.0.

Im quote mi forum.
Redmi Note 8 Pro owners who are not part of the Xiaomi Mi Pilot program should not install the MIUI 12 global stable beta update that has just been issued for the device. We recently reported about the MIUI 12 rollout for this particular popular smartphone, but it is only officially available to those who signed up for the Mi Pilot scheme. The warning, which was posted on the Arabic-language section of the Mi community forums, has been very blunt in advising non-Mi Pilot Redmi Note 8 Pro owners to resist the temptation of installing the MIUI 12 beta update.
