Stuck at lock screen after failing an update - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Recently, phone updated itself automatically to 11.0.3 version from 11.0.1. Now it is stuck at lock screen and none of the gestures or buttons working in lock screen(only long pressing power button restarts phone). Phone is china version. I can access to the fastboot and recovery. Can I fix it without installing new rom on it?

Deleting the lockscreen password seems to fix it for me, had this happen a few times. You can do it through twrp, delete locksetting* or gesture* from /data/system.
If you can't mount data, then formatting data is the only way, wiping isn't the same.

You can try flashing back to your previous ROM but I think your only options are going through TWRP to save your data or formatting data.
Maybe someone else can chime in

Be warned: Encrypting your device can be dangerous

Hello,
As Google has decided to turn encryption on as a standard in the upcoming Android 5.0, I thought I would give it a test on my CosmicCM 5.4.
I started the encryption and it prompts you that you for a passcode that will be used from now on, so far no problem.
It started encrypting my device and it was running for some time(I left it alone for an hour) and reboots a couple of times.
After he's finished the annoyance came.
first you will have to type twice your password with a reboot, one time do decrypt your device the second time to enter your device.
Be aware that performance can be slowed through encryption, and it can negatively impact battery life too.
So I decide to go back.
The Problem: Once encrypted, you can't decrypt it easily.
When encrypting the phone android will tell you you can only decrypt it using a factory reset. Naturally you assume it's talking about the "Factory Data Reset" option found in Settings --> Backup and Reset and this works.
Now I wanted to try a rom (TW 4.2.2 based) and see how this worked and after installing and booting.
I got prompted to enter the decryption and of course this didn’t work anymore as there is no data for the password.
So I assumed you can wipe everything from your custom recovery mod (CWM, TWRP, or one of those).
Wrong! You'll get beautiful "can't mount /data" messages and more.
After some hard time I got everything working again, by flashing CosmicCM again.
The phone booted al clean again without asking for encryption and when you check the menu it also mentioned encryption is deactivated.
Trying the previous rom again just triggerd the encryption again.
So It seems that there is still somewhere a hidden encrypted protection that will be activated when I flash a different rom.
So be warned and don’t play with encrypting your device as you could brick it.
Didn't have time to investigate further on how I can remove it completely, but my guess is I have to redo all the partitions.

Did you redo all the partitions to get the encryption completely removed?

I think I had to wipe my data via Philz, CWM and stock to remove encryption.

[Q] Help ! can't find the problem with my LG G3...

Help ! I own an LG G3 and randomly had a problem with the stock messaging app as it was failing and crashing, so then I decided to reboot my phone but as it rebooted, it was still the same except it had a stock background, no knock code, and my home + recent apps buttons do not function at all but show touch feedback... also when I long press my recent apps button it brings up the settings tab which it should do, which is odd, also my return/back button still works fine. I switched my background to my original one and enabled knock code again, then tried rebooting, hot booting, and powering off and on the phone but nothing worked it even reset my background again to stock and disabled my knock code. I can answer any questions other questions, Any help would be appreciated, Thank You !
Edit: Notifications do not show and the stock camera shortcut ( Hold volume down ) stopped working.
I'd probably try a factory reset if you haven't already. Also list your current software version and carrier info., which might be helpful to us in helping you.

Be sure to backup your messages/address book, that problem sounds like an excellent candidate for a factory reset solution.

I was gonna use that as a last resort, but I'll give it a try. Guess I'll have to reroot my phone... Again

Well, if you are rooted, you might try going into your custom recovery and wiping cache and dalvik-cache.
Since you suspect the messaging app, maybe wipe the data for that one as well? You'd lose all your messages, of course.

I don't have a custom recovery, whoops. The messaging app was fixed after the first reboot, which is when my phone booted that all the other problems occurred. Thinking of just backing everything up and factory resetting, although I wonder if I back up my phone and reset it then load my back up would the problem persist ? as maybe it stems off the soft/firmware, feel like this is the problem since the buttons show touch feedback but do not work.

Glad you seem to have it resolved.
BTW, a couple of notes and suggestions on best practices:
1. If you root and intend in any way on using the elevated permissions to modify your system, you should install a custom recovery, such as TWRP. This will allow you to backup your entire system at any time and restore in the event of an oooops! event.
2. If/when you have a custom recovery:
NEVER accept an OTA (over the air) update. It will bork your phone.
NEVER perform a factory reset from a stock ROM. It will bork your phone.

OP3 won't unlock 'Wrong PIN'

So I backed up stock OxygenOS with TWRP, copied that backup to my PC, flashed the CM13 nightly to test it, wiped the device, restored original backup from TWRP.
Boots up, asks me for my PIN, this works and so it continues to boot Android.
At the lock screen it says 'Wrong PIN' when it's correct and it's the only PIN I've ever used on the device.
Does anyone have any suggestions that may fix this?
Thanks.
I had the same problem with unlock pattern, idk how to solve it without formatting internal memory.
but you can erase internal memory (factory reset) and your phone will reboot and be clean (wiped everyting including pin)

Yep it sucks, I'm trying to avoid that
This is a known issue with twrp. You should be disabling security (pin/fingerprint) before making a back up. There is a thread on here on how to get around it.

Guys i need help. No matter what rom i flash i cant get past language selection. My phone always gets stuck on Just a sec loading screen.
Clean flash dosen't work
wiping everything/factory reset dosen't work
I noticed this started happening after i flashed no_verify_op5.zip and also deleted lockscreen.db files in /data/system to bypass first boot lockscreen pin entry due to previously encrypted rom
I also have no nandroid backup hence im stuck without an OS

Any luck getting past this? I am in the same boat on a Moto X4. I tried to downgrade from 8.1 to 8.0. Flashing went fine but now stuck at the same "Just a sec" screen. Gonna try wiping internal. Hope I can back it up first but I bet it's encrypted and I cant.

how to wipe internal storage?
I've tried wiping internal storage, also format data. Nothing is working, please help. My device is Redmi Note 4 {mido}. I have tried using different ROMs too.:crying::crying:
bro did u find a solution....? pls say. I am stuck in same problem and wiping the internal storage doesn't helps.
I'm in the same boat with Verizon Note 3. I've tried flashing lineage 16.0 official, unofficial, couple other Android 9 based ROMs, never get past 'Just a sec....' Tried wiping everything but microSD, formatting, nothing has any effect.
So, how did you guys managed to solve this problem? My 5t is stuck in "Just a sec..." screen, changing roms won't help. :/

The issue still persists even after Wiping internal storage or Formatting data. Nothing worked. However, I managed to install the stock ROM to my Redmi Note 4 after this and continued to use the phone. But I can't go past the Just a sec.....screen in Resurrection Remix 7.0.2 ROM and I want it badly. Any help?
I had this issue on my Mi Mix 3 after downgrading Magisk.
It kept being stuck on 'Just a sec...' even after resetting and wiping everything back to factory settings on my phone
I managed to fix it by flashing and older stock ROM to my phone from my laptop using the MiFlash tool, it still couldnt boot afterwards but I didn't need to fill in a password in TWRP anymore..
after the password was removed by the flashing, i flashed a xiaomi.eu ROM from TWRP and my phone finally booted back up again.
I hope this somehow helps anyone, if you have any questions I'd be glad to brainstorm for a solution with you
Best of luck all!
In my case the fix was trivial!
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQue..._just_a_sec_after_factory_reset_help/fmmiqjb/
I fixed it by erasing data via stock recovery (not TWRP).
I Have similar issue suck at just a sec ... screen and my phone is vivo v15 pro.

yes it seems to not work at 1st on first boot! doesnt detect storage 0mb
but when i hit wipe/advanced wipe/data then
hit repair change file system then hit change file system
to ext2 then back ext2
it detects internal storage
but when i booted into android it wanted to encrypt data and wipe it.
so i manually wiped data in recovery then rebooted an bam it works
an it still detects my internal storage........yay thank you so much

I didn't realize people were still having issues with twrp on the tmo/Metro variant. Id have to double check with Aeorsyn but im pretty sure we posted one somewhere in this forum that works...at least for me...perfectly with the exception of the time being off every now and then. It flashes zip and image files, makes backups, restores, wipes, works with twrp themes, reads internal and external sd, and even usb via otg. I've been running it for a couple months now without issue. Is there something im missing that people are trying to do that I'm just blind too? Lol if anyone wants a link to the twrp I'm using just lemme know.

Twrp deletes stock rom
Maybe you can help me out, maybe im missing something. I have the g5 (hannah) MetroPCS variant. Everytime I flash TWRP it deletes my system. Ive tried 3 other TWRPs with no luck. One way or another I cannot boot, (bad key). Then I reflash my stock rom and try again. Ive tried with and without allowing system modifications with no avail. However when I first flash and boot into recovery there is a screen asking to decrypt. it asks to enter a password but the screen doesnt respond to touch for the pattern dots. Does that decrypting need to happen for TWRP to work correctly? Thanks

I used Sir's (THANKS!) twrp and just booted it without flashing,(worked great!) it boots fine but asks for unlock pattern and doesn't accept the one I have set, (I'm guessing this is where decrypt.zip comes into play, but unsure), I hit cancel and KEPT READ ONLY , then made individual backups of boot + system + system.image
I also get the Bad key however I believe this is normal after unlocking the bootloader.. If you wait a bit it should still eventually boot.. I'd like to try to make a boot animation..

turns out its not deleting the rom. its a problem with the boot image or encryption . When i first boot into twrp i cannot see internal storage. if i change my partition from ext4 then back to ext2 it shows up and the decrypt.zip is successful. however when i reboot phone it hangs at motorola screen. I then went back to fastboot and flashed stock boot.img and the phone almost booted up. I got hung at decryption unsuccessful perform factory reset. I dont know why this is so complicated any suggestions.
