Do these zoomed photos look right to you? - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Wife recently got the S9 snapdragon and just received the One UI 2. 1 update so she's on latest fw.
We went to the beach and for the first time using the zoom camera feature the pictures look TERRIBLE.
Do these photos look right to you?
She wasn't that far away.

The S9 doesn't have optical zoom, so all it's doing is cropping and enlarging the image. All that does is enlarge the pixels - resulting in exactly what you're seeing.

Multitasking looks the same as Pictures Hub "filmstrip" view

I just made a funny observation while playing with my phone. If you are in the Pictures Hub and open a picture then pinch your fingers inward on the screen you get a "filmstrip" view right? Well I was just looking at a video of multitasking in Mango and I have to say it looks almost identical!
I know this isn't really a big deal, but it's interesting to note at least. (Protip: you can REALLY see the resemblance when you have wallpapers of 800x480. it looks almost exactly the same).

Camera questions

Hi,
Every time I use the camera along with the zoom the pictures turn out horrible. I will provide an example. Is there anything I can do to improve it.

Sent from my Sony Xperia Ion using Tapatalk 2.
The sad truth is that digital zoom sucks. You're basically cropping a corner of what's displayed and blowing it back up.
I've mostly stuck to landscapes, myself, with the rare moment of being able to get really close to the subject.
(Took the attached photo with my x10. Haven't gotten to the Zoo since I landed the ion.)

Photo samples from the Honor 6X

Went for a walk today and brought my Honor 6X to grab some pictures to share with you guys.
These first photos were taken in auto mode. You can see that is has a really hard time with high contrast shadows.

These pictures were taken with the wide aperture mode. This seems to be where the camera performs best, with shots that are within 3 feet away from the object.

Idea on phone camera

why couldn't samsung modify the viewfinder so that the circled region can be filled by the view like other phones?
It is quite frustrating to see the full screen of my note 10+ not utilizing full screen in camera esp as i am using the 4:3 pic aspect ratio.

Because it has to preview you what and how pictures is took as the phone "views" it.
... Or maybe I totally misunderstand your issue? :/

The image is rotated 90 degrees and also stretched to fill the screen inside open camera (does the same in google camera go)
