How do I root Android 10 G710EMW? - LG G7 ThinQ Questions & Answers

HI All,
I've got my G710EMW on EU firmware (G710EM30b_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0707.kdz), all looks good but not sure how to root it. I'm not sure how but by flashing a different firmware my bootloader is now unlocked - says unlocked in Developer Tools, so I don't need to do that.
I don't want to mess it up can someone tell me which files I need to root this phone?

Search in the guides or ROMs section. Someone might have put patched boot image for 30b.
To do yourself, you need to extract boot_a and boot_b using qfil, rename to .IMG, put it in your phone, install magisk manager and patch the boot images. Then put patched images in your PC and flash using fastboot. Check ROMs section to know how to do that.
This method always works for me.

After much googling I have managed to do this! And rooted my phone, my question is do I need to flash both boot_a and boot_b? Or just one, at the moment I have flashed only boot_a and I have root

I followed this guide and downloaded everything I need from there:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g7-thinq/how-to/howto-unlock-bootloader-root-g7s-t-mo-t4077105
The biggest issue I had was getting the partition manager to work in QFIL, it kept failing with sahara error - but just keep trying, put the phone back into 9008 mode (hold vol Up and vol down and power) and restart the QFIL app, eventually it will work.
Once you have read the image in QFIL, copy it onto you phone and use magisk manager to patch the image and then write the boot images back (both boot a and boot b).
That's pretty much it.

Thanks so much

I think you could use 9008

I followed these links
I can't get into EDL
I got into a firmware download page, but the device doesn't show as
Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008
It says LGE Mobile USB Serial Port

I think the first question is: Do you have adb / fastboot / flashtool on your computer, with drivers for your phone? If so, rooting is probably not a big deal. If not, or if you're not familiar with them, you'll have to start there.
Thx for reply i asume you root your xperia
Is it easy? How much time you spend ?

If everything is ready, and bootloader unlocked, easiest way I've found is this :
- Download pre-rooted rom with recovery zip to sdcard
- Download CM boot img and TWRP recovery img to PC, (adb folder)
- Turn off phone and connect in fastboot mode, (make sure to check 'unknown sources and adb debugging on phone)
- Open command prompt, go to adb folder, flash boot img, flash recovery img
- Reboot to recovery and flash pre-rooted zip
Now you have root and recovery so even if you don't want that rom, you can download what you do want and flash it.
With locked bootloader you'll probably have to go a different route.

For boot img you can download a rom and pull the boot file out, or search some forums for one posted. I am happy to post one but not too familiar with the rules on that. If you have trouble, maybe I can. To see if bootloader is unlocked or unlockable, there's a hash code. Not sure what it is exactly, but easy to find with a search. If it is locked but unlockable, Sony has an official procedure. Just search for Sony Mobile unlock bootloader.

maybey you can help me with a boot file because i dunno wich file to take and how to extract it from a rom
i will try do this tommorow but i must read that thread i posted
edit
i dunno if the thread i posted has the pre-rooted rom with recovery zip to sdcard
and a CM boot img and TWRP recovery img
i will unlock the bootloader tommorow
now i am looking for this 3 files
and if your right i am good when i have those images
thx
What FW version do you have? I would suggest you do not unlock the bootloader. you lose some of the image processing features and other proprietary software. instead use NUT's tools: download the recovery and the tool for your model and FW version, and run it. it's easy and no problem.
EDIT: if that does'nt work, use xperifirm to download a firmware, PRF to root it, and flashtool to flash it to the phone. all quite straightforward, no BL-Unlock needed. there's a thread for every tool, and they all have a GUI.
Root without downgrading first?

Help I bricked my Moto Z play

I flashed the wrong bootloader so fastboot does not work. I still have TWRP Working but anything I flash does not boot. I am looking for a full factory OTA that I can flash via TWRP so it will re-flash the proper bootloader and all the other factory images so I can un-brick it through fastboot. I have tried to flash many different update files but it gives an error 7 and says to be on 6.0.1 or 7.0 before installing it. Can someone please help me un-brick this or link a full OTA that I can flash via TWRP. I attached the bootloader.img so if anyone could make a flashable zip to flash the stock bootloader that would probably work.

If fastboot works then you're not hard bricked, most likes soft brick. I would suggest flashing magisks 14 after you flash the rom as dm-verity will check if your system is modified , dm-verity needs to be disabled

I already tried flashing magisk. Also I can boot into the bootloader but the computer does not see it in fastboot anymore (probably because I flashed the bootloader.img for the moto z play droid accidentally)

not exactly because twrp works. If I could flash fastboot images through TWRP I could un-brick it. If somebody could modify the stock rom's updater-script and remove the requirement to be running a stock rom then I could flash that and I would probably be unbricked.

Bootloader can not be flashed through twrp so you'll need to flash the bootloader through fastboot. If your device is not recognized when you plug it in your computer then you're hard bricked, if fastboot is not accessable then you're hard bricked

so you are sure that it is impossible to make a flashable zip of bootloader. Maybe it is just my computer I'll try booting of linux on usb and then see if fastboot can see it.

Do you have the correct driver,, if you use Linux there is no need for the driver just install minimal ADB and fastboot

Have you tried using these albus (Z2 Play) blank flashes as mentioned here to repair your bootloader? https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73402033&postcount=181

These may hopefully get your device to the point where it's recognised in fastboot and you can then flash the stock ROM via fastboot.

How to install recovery stock images

hey happy new year guys i searched alot but no luck , i downloaded recovery stock rom 10.0.17.0 from here
https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/daisy/roms-global-stable/
but when i try to flash it from recovery i get an error what is proper way to install it (knowing that i'm on 10.0.3.0 ) please asap ??
If I'm not mistaken, I think that the link you provided is to a file that will contain a payload.bin, which would also need to be extracted. Maybe try from this link and extract the tgz & tar file to gain access to flash_all.bat/images.
I also had errors trying to flash the image as well but the path to the flash file was long (N:\Android\Xiaomi\Images\daisy_global_images_V10.0.17.0.PDLMIXM_9.0-2). When I simply moved the folder to the N drive it worked beautifully (N:\daisy_global_images_V10.0.17.0.PDLMIXM_9.0-2).
Hope that helps & good luck!

To install that, maybe TWRP can do it?
Else you will need to extract the images from payload.bin (use payload dumper) and flash each image using fastboot.
Probably flash them to the other slot and then change active slot. But you won't need to do that since you're flashing from fastboot.

So where are you stuck?
Let's go step by step:
So you have unlocked the bootloader and now you have the stock boot img for you rom patched?
Have you tried to install the patched img through adb?
Fastboot flash boot nameofimg.img
Make sure is the patched img.
Once you do that you have to go to magisk web site https://******************/ download the lastest apk.
Install remember to allow your browser to install unknown apps.
Once that happens magisk Wil tell you that it needs to install some extra things let it do it and it will reboot.
I know you said you tried it but in this guide you also get the patched boot img.

Place the boot.img in the fastboot folder file. What I had to do since I had downloaded this fastboot zip but it was two in one, forgot the name but I had to put the boot.img into the file folder of fastboot so when I open adb or whatever it will detect the boot.img file.
As Yelloman said you do have to put the img file in the Fastboot folder in order for it to transfer the img to your device.

I suppose you are trying to flash the patched boot.img. If that's the case, the command is "fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img".

No, not flash. Just boot.
Sounds like you are not running the command from the folder with the patched boot file. Or the file has a different name.
