Debloating the Moto G Stylus ! - Moto G Stylus (Moto G Pro) Guides, News, & Discuss

So far I think the G Stylus is a great phone but it’s just SO loaded with BLOAT!! Lots of apps we really don't need, and some that we can definitely do without, especially those that nibble away simultaneously at your privacy, data allotment, and battery.
Probably the easiest way to debloat on this phone today is to issue the "pm disable-user --user 0" command via ADB as explained here:
https://www.xda-developers.com/disable-system-app-bloatware-android/
Without further ado, here is what we came up with:

You will notice that we have disabled a number of stock G apps that other people may find useful, in addition to some carrier specific apps we don’t want or use, so if you want to keep any of those, please feel free to edit those items out. We have this running well on Fi, keeping the Moto gestures intact and greatly increasing battery life as far as we have been able to tell so far. This is just our first draft of what we have done so far on our phone, so please feel free to comment, add, and delete.

Which carrier do you all use? My only reason for asking is that I use big red (Verizon), but I'm seriously considering ting with their Verizon option.
I'm wondering if you use wifi calling with the stock dialer with your carrier.
Also personally is want to rid myself of all Google crap probably including play services as Ive been using microg for at least 3 years now maybe 4 along with nextcloud for carddav/caldav contact/calendar /task management.
After disabling all that did you notice any side effects at all?
Even positive ones like battery life increases or performance increases?
So far Omni rom has worked best for me but I never did get wifi calling working. I've read things to try but haven't since I can't get LTE data working on CR-Droid.
Going to see if it LTE works on havoc then try to get wifi calling working and if it won't then back to stock I'll be. I went too far with my debloat using app manager from F-Droid Or Aurora Droid.
Is an awesome app, with Exodus built in, it's very powerful, check it out if you haven't.
Your way is safer and it's the method I used on my Z4 and the best part is that root isn't necessary.
Excellent write up thanks.
I wish I knew what all the Qualcomm stuff did
Sent from my Moto G Stylus using XDA Labs

I got identical results here !

So I got the stock android 11, any hope that I can unlock the bootloader and flash a new rom without all this spyware BS? Been waiting for months for a guide, yes I just tried to look for a thread, hopefully it evaded my eye.

If you got stock 11 you shouldn't have much or any bloat.

But it has the worst bloat, which is the automatic update bloat, even after running the debloater from the first post. So I want out, has anyone figured out how to unlock the bootloader yet???

I may attempt this but I'm reluctant especially since there isn't any follow up. progress, status reports. Suggesting this project may have gone sideways and been abandoned? There seems to be several apps that are borderline essential? What apps did you replace them with and what new, secure, open source apps did you install? There's also a Lineage OS build thread here. I'm a novice so am I correct that replacing the OS always requires rooting?
I don't want to bite off more than I can chew and end up bricking my phone. I doubt you live in Vegas so do you know of a good developer/tech here or in Henderson, NV that can provide this service for me on 1 or more of my personal phones? Or can you locate one through your network? I've gone by several cell repair shops and most have closed their doors or they're clueless which also gives me pause.

(No Root Needed) Remove Bloatware from LG G7 and LG V35/LG V40

So for those of you who want to remove the non-removable system and google apps from your V35 or LG G7, there is a tried method that I used that I wanted to reshare to you guys.
1. Enable USB debugging on you phone in dev settings (click Build settings 5 times to activate dev mode)
2.Install adb and Open command prompt to adb
3.Type adb devices
(If you see something like C:\adb>adb devices
List of devices attached
LMfff344443 device
then you're good)
5.Type: "Adb shell"
6.Now type "pm list packages"
7.Select the app/package and type "pm uninstall -k --user 0 name of package”
8. If it says Success it means it's been uninstalled from your device.
Safe to Remove Apps from the Google Fi Version of the V35 - Will work on most Lg's regardless(Pick the ones you want to remove and keep, yourself)

You can narrow a search for an app by using grep: pm list packages | grep -i radio
Make sure to thank me if this helped at all. Thanks!
Or, if you feel like spending the $2.99, you can buy "Package disabler pro for LG" from the Play store and easily disable system apps and services at your convenience. Been working well for me for a few years, since I keep making the mistake of buying LG devices, thinking that each one will FINALLY be the one that will be easily bootloader unlocked and rooted. They never are. This very expensive V35 that I have NO real control over will definitely be my last LG phone. Off to the Pixel line I go. Tired of being 2 or 3 major Android versions behind the times.

I can't say for sure, but I would guess yes. I've used it to disable bloat on various LG phones I had with other carriers. I've also used the original non-LG specific app to disable bloat on at&t phones that I've owned. Worst case scenario, buy the app, try to disable something and if it doesn't work, just hit the refund button.
Thank you.
This is an excellent way to remove unwanted apps in a non-rooted phone. Works with my LG V35 Thinq Unlocked by AT&T. Most of us know this method for removing unwanted apps, but thank you for the post/reminder/instructions.
Just a quick thank you as well - I have a v35 for personal use and a v30 for work use - both are on AT&T. My v30 got the Pie update a few days ago on October 2nd, and I just don't like it. The UI feels clunky and has a noticeable increase in battery drain; with no other changes made in usage habits, etc.
Used an APK extractor / backup app (free on play store) to back up the following two "System Update" system apps on my v35:
Code:
com.lge.android.atservice
com.lge.lgdmsclientatt
I then used the OP method to uninstall. So far I've only had the first prompt to upgrade my v35 from Oreo to Pie (or so I presume since this is happening within days of my v30 receiving the OTA Pie update on the same carrier.) That is when I found and implemented this method. Time will tell in the following days if this sticks.
I'd like to go back to oreo on the v30 but it's a work phone and I can't really do much at the moment w/o risking anything. I primarily wanted to prevent my personal v35 from updating.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!" I really wish the option to disable system updates under Developer Options would work without having to do this.

what control do you not have with the unrooted phone? i'm just curious because i'm thinking of getting this phone
What about LG Update Center? Can that be safely removed?

All control. Until you are rooted, the carrier/OEM still owns your phone.
Example: With Galaxy Note 7, Samsung pushed update to purposely BRICK all phones. The only ones who kept using their phones were those who rooted.
No, not all Galaxy Note 7 had battery problems. But Samsung was tired of the headlines, so they bricked all Galaxy Note 7 and made people get months older Galaxy 7/7+ in exchange. If people wanted those older phones they would have bought them in the first place...
People who had rooted their nrw Note 7 were not affected by the brick forced update. Because it couldn't be forced on them.
___
Also with rooted phones you can install TWRP custom recovery to make updates you can restore. You can install Magisk mods to add functionality you can NOT get with stock firmware alone.
"Rooted" means you are the "administrator" of your handheld computer. Until then, the carrier/manufacturer is the admin.

I am in Korean Android 10 rom and tried Package Disabler for LG and it works fine, as in Pie.
The methodology behind the app is quite similar therefore I presume that the instructions above will work properly.

I have this app and it is great but a lot of the disabled apps and packages still show up as running processes. Facebook app manager for example and device health services and always on display aren't hibernating or disabled.

Debloat Colour os For smooth Performance

Color OS preloaded with certain apps. Such apps can't simply uninstall. Its hard coded, , for e.g. App Market. Use these command to disable those apps.. No root required... Os updates will still work.. No problems there... Users need to apply commands from powershell ADB
How to
Open developer setting and turn on usb debugging on
Connect to pc
Open latest powershell
Type ./adb devices ( ur device should be there in list)
Just copy paste all together... no need to enter each command individually in powershell..
Use Nova launcher.. Better than stock launcher...
Those who want google assistant delete this from the list .\adb shell pm disable-user --user com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox

Experienced devs recommend disable for it's safer and more stable. Uninstalling system apps may lead to unforeseen consequences.

@jijoejoe123 Do I need to copy paste each and every line of the list you shared or can I do this from batch file? Or some kind of one click method?

I can understand the desire to "remove" the useless junk on our phones...I hate it on my laptop also...but it does take up relatively little space in an area of storage that the end user cannot access/use anyway. Also, and I may need to be corrected here, but most of this stuff will comeback with a major upgrade say from Android 10 > 11 and will surely come back if a factory reset needs to be done (God forbid) so I think an effective 3rd party app such as this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kinder.pksafety
is a much better solution to the problem. It is MUCH LESS work and basically accomplishes the same thing...stopping unwanted bloat from interfering with the functioning of our phones. Not to mention the app will also let you do a Google search of a particular app in question as to what it is, what it does, and if it is truly necessary to the operation of your phone. Also, with this app, if you determine that an app you disabled is something you want, or need, then a simple click of a check box and the app is turned back on and available. Having to connect your phone to your PC, and go through the hassle of trying to disable, or remove, or restore, or turn an app back on using ADB commands is far more complicated. Of course it's up to you...but for a few dollars this app is unbeatable. I make no money nor do I have any incentive to promote this app other than to help my fellow lemmings who continue to be mislead by the powers that be...namely...Samsung!

The problem with that app is that the developer constantly pulls it from the store and then adds it back meaning you have to purchase again; he says he HAS to do this to update. I've bought that app 3 times since back when I had my S7 Edge and Galaxy Tab S. My recommendation is to just put in the little extra work and use the free method. Don't support devs that pull this kind of BS.

i had the oneplus one (sold it, regret it LoL) and my fiancee has the oneplus 2. Havent had a oneplus device since the OP2. Im keenly aware that its their worst phone, by far, but i wasnt wanting to gamble again. Id like the OP8 Pro for the camera, but i just dont get where youre saying the display is junk. I have a S9, A8, S7, 2 S5's, S4, 2 S3's, S2 Galaxy S Plus, Note 2, Note 4, OP2, HTC EVO, Incredible, Incredible 2 amongst many more. A couple iphones too and the S20 FE's display isnt junk compared to them. Its better than the S9 that its sitting right next to IMO.

And another thread that should prove usefull -
- https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/s20fe-snapdragon-sm-g781b-manual-de-bloat-via-adb.4367745/

S20FE (Snapdragon) (SM-G781B): Manual de-bloat via ADB -

I posted this in another thread but it was hard to find and had a different topic - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/force-remove-gameoptimizationservice-howto.4223511/
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Even with all the info available online (most of it on the XDA forums) I still had to go through the painful and frustrating process of seeing what I could delete and what I could not. This included having to re-flash my device at least a dozen times (shaving off some my nand flash life)
So it occurred to me to mention what you do and should absolutely do not do -
While its safe to remove ALL the knox apps via adb, DO NOT! remove any of the KNOX apps from the '/system/priv-app' folder. This will cause the phone to soft lock, as in it will boot just fine but you will see a ****ty samsung message muttering something about unauthorized removable of payment software.
I removed a bunch of the what I'm caling core apps, but DO NOT remove com.samsung.android.kgclient (Payment services), via adb or from the piv-app folder - this will also trigger the same above soft-lock. And for good measure I didnt touch -
com.samsung.android.spayfw
com.sec.android.app.billing
com.samsung.android.mobileservice - this ties into way too much crap.
Now I did a deep purge of a lot of apps and as per the above google doc pointed out I would get the odd bug, but this is no worse that a small delay on 3 or so apps and even then only when I try to access a function for something that got removed and I am happy with that.
All that faffing meant I ended up streamlining my stock rom obdin flash proceedure.
I now flash BL, AP, CP, CSC and vbmeta all at the same time.
then reboot back into download mode and flash twrp.
then reboot back into download mode and flash the magisk_patched bootimage.
then finally boot into recovery, flash multi_disabler.zip, format DATA and then reboot to normal boot.
I also un-ticked the auto reboot & change time options in ODIN to give me to time to grab the phone and hold the buttons etc.
Here is a list of what I removed via adb -

Hello,
do you got an updated Version for Android 12 or aren't there any new apps to remove?
Do you also know if these apps are also safe to uninstall:
- Swiftkey + Swiftkey factory settings
- One Ui-homescreen
(of course only when alternate keyboard + launcher apps are installed)
Thanks and best greets

I don't use ADB to debloat, I just use a root app that also does disabling. I've disabled all parts of swiftkey with no issues. OneUI on the other hand is responsible for recent apps even if you're using another launcher I believe. it shouldn't be disabled.
FWIW, as noticed in aother thread, there's a typo: com.samsing.android.games.gos
Anyway, this package can't be removed like that (like com.sec.android.sdhms ). I'll try in the future with Device Owner method (bootloader unlocked).
And I wanted to say I don't crash with "com.hiya.star" removed. I had crash when entering contact info from phone apps, but it was due to package "com.android.providers.blockednumber" that I had uninstalled (so I reactivated it).
Debloating will impact DeX function and/or DeX apps?
Any update for android 13 one ui 5.1?
What ist the app for "ok, google" activation? After re-install the google App it worked. After reboot it stopped working. When I enter the setting "Voice match" the option is disabled with the info: "This function is not available in your language " I can change the language in the App. It stays the same.
//Edit
For all who face the same problem in the future... I have a solution.. you may know, but won't like it ..
hard reset

Question Cant receive phone calls when VoLTE and LTE is enabled

If someone calls me when i have VoLTE and LTE enabled he gets notified that my phone number is currently unavailable. After unlocking my phone few seconds later im getting notification that i have missed call. Cellular signal is ok and i can receive SMS just fine, internet also works fine. At first i though maybe my sim card is damaged so i replaced my SIM for eSIM and still having same issue. When i switch from LTE/3G/2G to 3G/2G i can receive calls without issue. When i call someone it works fine. APN are set correctly.
Here is my debloat list maybe you guys can spot some important app or service i have disabled and i should re-enable it? I looked through every single one and can't find anything important or related to calls..
Anything else i could try to debug this issue?

Had a similar issue and went the same way for converting sim. To no improvement. My phone actually was not able to keep a celular connection up and stable at all. Samsung blamed Telekom, Telekom blamed Samsung, bli bla blubb... Phone went to Samsung repair after 8months of hideous service desk back and forth... Once i get it back, it'll be for sale...
Hope you'll have more luck.
