Rooting The TCL 10L - TCL 10L Questions & Answers

Is it possible?

re:
I believe it is possible with the Magisk boot, img patch method for rooting. However, I haven't easily found any stock firmware for it, but I did just get this phone and haven't had time yet to look or to dump the firmware off the device.. I can verify the oneclick root apps like Kingoroot, king root, etc are all a fail.

Many have we've all failed

I've been wanting to root my phone for sometime but I also failed so I decided to be proactive and emailed TCL Mobile Care to get the firmware or the kernel sources but they aren't cooperating with me.
You can read more on my Reddit post about it if you want.
I've filed a Violation of GNU License today and I'll figure how to report it to Google, but I doubt a single report will do much.
Hopefully it'll take us a step closer to being able to root it.
Edit: I'm a idiot the source code is at sourceforge

Today found this,
https://romprovider.com/tcl-10l-t770-firmware-support/ maybe that helps for the oem firmware. Bought that phone 5 day ago and try to find a solution to root it to.

It's been mentioned in a post on TCL10 pro, much more active than this one and unfortutantly that flash file tool doesn't have the full firmware in it.

Unfortunately there's none at the moment. TCL is very against it and made it quite difficult to unlock the bootloader.
Since it's so difficult I've been asking daily on their twitter accounts for the past month for a way to unlock it since they just ignore everyone who contacts their mobile support asking for a way do to it.
The best I got from them so far was a "thanks for your suggestion" type of message, 2 TCL accounts blocked me but I've created more accounts to spam them.
They replied to me today but I'm skeptical that they'll do anything.

Hopefully they end up sharing the fastboot flashing unlock command, if not it's a matter of time and of hope that someone figures a way to do it

[Q] Best rom for most standard google experience

Hello,
I bought a gpad (v500) yesterday and I don't really like the LG bloatware and style etc...
I thought it would be possible to put on the google play edition rom but as I'm reading here that does not seem possible?
What rom would be the closest to a GPE experience or what do you think would be the best rom for somebody loving a nexus 5 stock
also, I already looked at a couple of topics about rooting etc but it seems to me they are all on windows,
does anyone have the steps for mac?
thanks in advance!

1) One of the CM11 ROMs.
2) Follow this link for root instructions. Look at third line in "How do I use it?" for Mac instructions. But before you proceed, read and re-read it until you are 100% confident that you understand every step. And be sure to follow every step explicitly. And I would also recommend reading every post, and every comment in that thread first, also. If there's something you don't understand, then post a question on that thread. If you make a mistake, you risk turning your device into an expensive brick.

There are very few Mac users around here. I would suggest you try a Google search, non specific to G Pad, like "Root LG on macbook", "macbook can't see android device", and some variants like that. Also, try to PM the OP on the two threads that I posted above.
i have acces to a windows laptop so that's not a problem anymore!

You are welcome.
My problem isn't solved...
I have a windows laptop so I'm able to run the bat file, but as you can see in the screenshot above, the root process fails...
I've tried several times and I always get the same error messages...

Well, bear in mind that the Nexus 5 stock is really just the generic Android. Personally, I have never seen the appeal for the plain jane experience, but to each his own. If you leave LG's software completely, you will lose their fantastic weather widget (the best I know of in any phone or tablet), the IR Blaster (including its miniaturized version), their video player, QVoice, QPair, and a number of others. Also, as far as I know, the correct gamma reproduction only exists in stock ROMs.

Qpair works fine with AOSP ROMs. There's a specific thread in the Mods thread regarding how to get it to work.

2. Root your device (i used EasyRoot link to DB EasyRoot
3. After rooting flash .157 kernel only
4. Install recovery Dualrecovery, superSu
5. Enjoy

anyway how do i check if have rooted my phone and if its rooted what is the basic this that i need to do after rooting
the main reason i rooted my phone is to move apps on SD card and I want to erase all the data from recovery so how to do it?

Ok, I tried to help, but it seems that you need to do some research about recovery and supersu and find out what is that you want to do after root.
In About phone only way to identify kernels version is it's build date. On screenshot attached you can see that build date is Oct 9th, it's 157 firmware.
Other way to check is just connect your phone to flashtool and it should show all firmware details. And third way is *#*#73784237#*# services menu.

There was article here but no way to find it between millions of others.
Good advice for beginners.
Don't scream "give me", "tell me"...
All those things were described thousand times.
Read. Read. Read. Learn.
You were angry because you lost whole day?
If you won't learn - tomorrow you will come with next question or - worse - bricked phone.
Having root and not knowing what it can do and how to manage it is like playing football using grenade as ball.
I've read some thousands posts before I even started fiddle with my device.
Reading took me a month. And I know Linux.
You know how it is. It is your money on risk. ...
Even advices given here not necessarily are always 100% correct or fit your situation.
You must be able to evaluate them.

WORD! This can not be stressed enough. although a month and a thousand posts seems a bit excessive to me. Any sane person should invest a few hours of searching, reading and learning before they start to fiddle around with their phone worth hundreds of dollars. Know what you are doing! Always remember: You can break your phone irreparably.
I remember the article you meant, it was on the XDA portal once. This clip also illustrates the point nicely. We've all seen it, but some might ned to take it to heart again...

I started read XDA forum two months BEFORE I even bought smartphone.
I wanted to know which one is good/reliable and which is troublemaker.
Then I bought 120$ device to play with.
After a year I bought Xperia Z1C which appeared on market exactly in the moment when I was looking for good powerful phone.

Guys, do NOT use this software without few things first:
-we have not seen source code of this, noone knows what it actually does to your watch
-this software is NOT made for huawei watch, this guy just made few buttons call some adb functions, however they are not customized for hwatch. Any of that can easily hardbrick your watch as far as we know.
Also this mass advertisement is really stupid. Post reported.

You can see the source code here, and the unlock command, as well as the rooting command, is the same for all smartwatches. The TWRP comes from this post, so it's completely safe. Please confirm things before you post.

MuF123 said:
I should confirm things before posting? YOU should confirm that while I have hwatch connected I can press any combination of buttons in your ADB wrapper and nothing bad happens. What about supersu? The option is there, have you tested it with hwatch? Please confirm things before you post.

Nothing bad can happen to a device that's not within the user's control. There are many checks in place to prevent errors, and the TWRP and SuperSU are specific to the HWatch. While I haven't personally tested them, I've confirmed that many users on the forum used that method to root their HWatch, so I implemented that into the toolkit. Go ahead and click any combination of buttons you want.

WinDroid Toolkit v3.0 Is Now Out!
WinDroid Toolkit v3.0 has been released! It's a huge update with a material redesign, major recode and support for 43 new devices!
You can out more specific changes in the changelog here.
You can download the new update here.
All versions before v3.0 will not have their files updated anymore since I've moved from hosting on BasketBuild to Amazon S3. Please update to v3.0 to ensure you're getting the latest recovery and root files!
still working same as 2.6 nothing is wrong only wishing for the back to stock option would be cool and give it like a click twice or 3 times warnings about "you sure you wanna do it? there's no goin back!"

A705W No OEM unlock...

Does this mean it is un-rootable?
Goddam but Virgin fones are a pissoff.
Should I return this phone?
Or is there any possibility of a way to fix this?
I learnt the same lesson. It's sad that carriers can restrict what we do with our phones here in north America while if you buy this same phone anywhere else in the world, it's rootable.
I've had mine a few months now and still no way of rooting.

ok, so the idea is that I flash the combination file, go in to dev. settings and set OEM unlock, then reflash the phone with normal firmware, and carry on with rooting as normal? will this allow me to install twrp?

BK,
Ok, I'm sure you're going to think I'm a retard, but I wanna be sure I understand correctly.
So i:
1)flash combination file
2) Boot phone up
3) enable developer settings
4) enter developer settings, and enable OEM unlock.
5) Ok, here is where I'm a little unsure of what you mean:
"Reboot to bootloader and unlock it"
6) root with magisk.
The number 5 slot (above) is what I am having trouble with....
And then I use my pc to root the AP of the proper firmware before I flash it with Odin on to the phone?
Wait..I'm getting that part wrong too, I think.... shoot
Oh gosh. I'm screwing this up. Please advise here too...
And will TWRP be possible afterwards?
Excuse my asking about what I'm sure is obvious....
I have rooted and enjoyed the results on several LG phones and my old tab4, and I would enjoy the same freedom with this phone, as I quite like it.
Thank you again for being willing to advise.
Regards
K
when you enabled OEM unlock , plug the phone to the computer, then restart the phone and directly press and hold volume up and down until you see a blue screen

Wow.. I got the same error, EXCEPT instead of (pit) I have (abl).
I mucked around for a bit with a cracked z3x for a bit, but it was an older version, and didnt have A705W listed.
I'm still game to try, but thought I'd see if somebody here had any advice....
Please help, if anyone can.
Thank you
I am kinda in the same position as you...
I've been wanting to root for a while but this oem unlock thing with my Virgin a705w is annoying
I don't really want to risk bricking my phone or whatever so I was hoping someone could do it first.
I found this website with pit files if they're any use: full-repair-firmware .com/p/galaxy-a70-sm-a705xx.html
(remove the space before the .com; I can't post links on xda)
pls let me know if you can get it working

when you enabled OEM unlock , plug the phone to the computer, then restart the phone and directly press and hold volume up and down until you see a blue screen

Hey BK.
Thank you very much for your input!
I've only rooted my LG phones previously..
Samsung has a few more twists it seems!
I thought it might be worth asking you if you had any info on that error I mentioned below, the "please get approval to use factory binaries (abl) or (pit)" problem?
I've seen some stuff, applicable to the error ending in (pit), but have not seen anything referring to the (abl) version of the error, which is what I am experiencing....
Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated....and by more than just me, I'm sure!
Thank you again

I'm from Portugal and did not get this update
It was launched for US and South Korea if I am not wrong. But I would like to install it if someone uploads the zip file.
Same here, would love to get this file, because my ota update does not work.
No update in Sweden yet...

Great tutorial, but as I understand it after updating it will not be possible to return to the previous CSC, in my case ZTO, losing important functions like Samsung Pay.
I am not an expert so I can not answer that question. But maybe after the update follow the tutorial again and change back to your csc? I don't know if it will work...
LE: I don't use Samsung Pay so I don't mind if it's not working

The problem is that to go back to the previous CSC it will be necessary to downgrade again to change, so this will bring you back to ROM 4.0.0.7 when looking for an update

Excellent! I'll probably try this..
I wonder if our fellow @adfree has any consideration regarding to save the downloaded cache firmware in order to be used for others. Or any clue if other CSC will be released anytime soon.
Oh. Just one thing.
I could not connect to the watch to use the sdb command. After searching online a little I found that the following settings should be in place before "sdb connect ....."
Bluetooth: Off, Wifi: On, Debugging: On, Developer Mode: On. Then restart watch.
I had bluetooth on and it didn't connect.

Hi guys , follow my tutorial to change CSC region to XAR (usa) .. you will receive the update OTA and samsung pay of you dont already have it .
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyWatch/comments/luoj3i
Ill answer any question..
@andrew.mackew
To catch the Delta files aka FOTA inkremental crap... is no Rocket Science...
But few problems...
A
To start FOTA update routine from Watch you need Root...
B
No idea why...
I did this way few times with GWA2... SM-R820 successfully...
But failed with my SM-R500...
C
Dump from device is not easy... AND require tooo much time and Energy to do this for every Firmware...
D
To find way to start from Phone the FOTA process...
Would be coooooool...
Old experiments successfully years ago... with ROOTed Phone...
E
No checked...
Chance for Leak increase if more CSC released...
SM-R500 also only KOO and XAR...
So wait is safe...
Best Regards

Any first impressions? How is the overall speed and battery life?
No bugs until now. Battery seems to be a little better. 20% left and it says 14 hours. Overall speed very good.
A good update.
