Camera quality - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

Are the cameras on the 3 Samsung s20/ plus and the ultra all pretty much the same quality? Are is the camera on the Samsung CEO ultra way better than the CEO plus and the base model CEO device? I'm just wondering if it's worth spending the extra $ on the CEO ultra device. Basically is a camera on the s20 ultra way better than the base model s20 and s20 plus. Get somebody please let me know thanks in advance!!! I'm using the LG cup right now. Is the camera on the s20 plus s20 Ultra in the base model s20 way better than the v 60 LG device camera.

I like the camera, it has its limitations to take close-up photos, you can limit that by taking more distance and then zooming in, auto focus on the S20 Ultra is a bit restless, don't expect to take 1 photo there take several photos and pick the best ones out and tinker with snapseed until a good result is achieved for you, you are not familiar with taking and editing photos, 108 MP with the TOF sensor is perfect in certain situations, video recordings at 4 K and now the 21: 9 format is great, only manual, autofocus is unreliable !!. , in short, buy what you can handle, amateur? don't buy samsung!>

No, the S20 & S20+ crop into the sensor for the tele lens not an actual tele lens and the IQ from it is poor, the S20U is an actual tele lens. The UWA is similar in both, and the std lens is 108 mp vs 12mp the S20U takes a range of photos with the 108mp and combines them into a single 12mp photo, and when i compared the 12mp from my S20+ to my S20U the S20U is better detail wise.

A70 Front Camera Upgrade from A7 (2017)... !?

Using A7 (2017) and thinking of upgrading to A70, but not sure technical specs wise if the Front-Selfie Camera, would be much better than A7 (2017).
The Culprit = Aperture.
A7 (2017) - 16 MP, f/1.9
A70 - 32 MP, f/2.0
Now I take loads of selfies and low aperture is very important for me. The new A70 has one stop higher aperture as compared to my 2 year old phone but yes the megapixels is big but tht hardly matters in how much light the module lets in.
So according to specs, shall I conclude the front shooter is equal or maybe slight worse than my current phone ?
Need inputs.
The difference between f1.9 and f2.0 is not very significant, the quality would depend more on the noise in the chip I'd have thought. In whole f-stop numbers, you'd need to go down from 2.0 to 1.4 to double the amount of light allowed in by the lens, f2.0 to f1.9 isn't even a third of a stop, even if these were real f-stop numbers anyway.

UPDATE: I got the chance to demo Live A70 and I was shocked with the performance.
The selfie camera takes photo as if heavy beauty mode is applied by default. The rear camera takes "Greyish" pictures and even video colors were way off.
Compared to my A7 2017 it was a clear downgrade and even the Samsung representative in the store agreed with my inputs...
So am sticking with my current phone for now and possibly will switch to Oppo Reno !!
So you took a couple of quick photos with store demo unit and decided that camera is bad? I'll rather trust reviewers who spend days with the device before giving impressions and actually provide picture and video samples and comparisons with other devices.

I thought something was fishy with that demo unit... as it was on Demo mode and while taking selfies there was no option to disable beauty mode.
I again tried a demo in a local shop with consumer mode - and I am happy to inform that the pics and video all seem normal and satisfactory.
BTW, Greyish tone in pics can be widely seen in reviews too!
Camera is not great at all. It is normal as other low cost phones. Also
Bluetooth is breaking a bit with head phones.
audio for receiving calls is poor.
cannot connect to external monitor with type-c to hdmi which I feel is a basic feature.
it is high cost product.
Overall for this price, it is not a good product.
Until unless some one want new phone like me, its good to wait and check for other models.

32 MP GCam ?

Does anyone have by any chance found a way to produce 32 MP shots using GCam ? I can't Invision the amount of details that would appear in the picture ,I searched everywhere and I am desperate for such mode ,even if the picture is just interpoalted
Thanks in advance ,have a nice day ?
Everybody Needs GCam For A70.
Everyone who have A70, needs GCam with proper cameras.
Rear : 32MP
Front: 32MP
Somebody says that samsung and other phones like Xiaomi, Oneplus, Realme etc. are using 4x technology. Means rendering image at 4x.
Redmi 7 Note Pro has 48 MP but it actually has 12MP camera means 4x12= 48MP.
Same case in other phones. Like realme 3 pro has 16MP camera but click 64mp ultra pic too.
Listen, If we are thinking like this 4x technology. Then Gcam shows rear camera = 8MP means 4x8=32MP. Means it's true.
But But But... In case of front camera why it shows 5.1 MP? means 5.1X4 =20.4 MP ? Strange!!!!!!!!
If 4x is used then why front camera shows 5.1 MP even it's also 32MP.
I am very sad because there is no developer, who shows interest in custom ROMS, Mods, GCam, TWRP etc. for Samsung A70.
I will wait for some days and then try to sale my A70.
Thanks.
If I'm not mistaken the camera has 4x8MP sensors and the gcam can only see one of them , the front camera is another issue and it mainly has to do with the way gcam is made. If anyone knows better please inform us.
8MP on the front, 5MP depth sensor, 8MP ultrawide and 32MP regular on the back. The 32MP sensor is a Samsung ISOCELL sensor that uses 2x2 pixel binning (basically 4 cells = 1 pixel) to produce a binned 8MP image.
Samsung's 12MP mode is curious, it's not really needed. Gcam produces better images at 8MP than Samsung's own camera software does at 12MP. Samsung's app is garbage, basically.
Samaung dont make all their camera modes available in public APIs and until that changes gcam will likely never fully support any Samsung phone.

How much does the ToF sensor add?

Hello everyone, I have the aura blue S20 plus. I had a s10 before the s20 plus is borderline too big for me.
I went for the plus because of the ToF sensor and zoom in mic, in my opinion the s20 plus had the best cameras (better than the ultra's).
Right now I am considering trading in for the Fold 2, which looks like it has the s20's cameras. I'm not sure how much I'm losing giving up the ToF sensor. Will quick measure still work? I think I will lose 3d scan.
imgur [dot] com/gallery/nWACMp4
The only example I've seen the ToF sensor make a difference in a photo.
I have the regular S20 5G (NA release unlocked), and do not miss the ToF sensor. Portrait shots (live focus) still give nice bokeh. There are YouTube vids out there that show the ToF doesnt really do anything , pics were taken w/ ToF covered and not covered and both are near identical . Imo it's the software that's doing all the work , fast moving shots it might help out . Samsung's camera app is getting dam near pixel level in this regard.
Can you share the video please?

3x optical zoom mod on S20

TL;DR;
Would it be possible to insert S20FE's optical 3x zoom lens instead of this 64 MP useless gimmick so that S20 loses the high-res mode and earns proper, optical zoom of cheaper S20FE instead?
Full story:
I take many photos with my phone and I'm pretty happy with S20's main and ultrawide cameras, but the 3x hybrid "optical" (ye, 1.1x optical is indeed very big magnification) zoom is a damn joke. I was disappointed from the very first pictures from the "telephoto" camera from my S20 - they are usable only with very strong, direct sunlight. As soon as the sun goes away or the phone is indoor with moderate amount of light, this "telephoto" is just useless. Either it won't trigger at all or produces photos comparable to phones from 2014 - noisy, low detail, bad exposure.
My disappointment was even bigger when cheaper and "worse" S20FE was released. My friend purchased one immediately after its launch and we did comparisons. Some of the x3 zoom photos difference between the two is that significant that I literally feel like we were comparing phones from different decades. S20FE literally feels like it's from the far future when compared to S20. Even photos taken with direct, bright sunlight (where the 1.1 "telephoto" from S20 is only usable at) has differences - S20FE images are simply sharper, has more finest details and has literally zero noise. I won't comment photos taken indoor or after the dusk, because it's like comparing devices from different decades, really.
I hoped that if cheaper and "worse" S20FE has proper, optical zoom, S21 will have it as well, but as the full specs are leaked already - Samsung opted for a 1.1 "telephoto" 64 MP gimmick again - we still don't have a compact Samsung flagship with zoom lens.
Would it be possible to remove this useless 64 MP module and put 8 MP 3x optical lens to my S20? Or swap the whole camera module (including the regular and ultrawide cameras as well)? Would the software work with non-official hardware setup? Does anybody have experience with such experiments?
S20 with optical zoom would be really the perfect phone for me I wish I could have.

Question Fold 4 ultrawide video at 60 fps

Is there any work to provide 60 fps support for the ultrawide camera? some xda god is working on it?

unfortunately that crap sensor from 2015 does not even support 1080p 60fps, I don't understand why they use that crap instead of going for newer sensor that can do that, the regular S22 supports it.
U think that the problem is an hardware limitation or there is a way to solve it via software or by a samsung update firmware?

hardware ofc, why else would they limit it to 30 fps?
It is not sure, my old note 20 ultra come with an 30fps ultrawide recording camera, after some time, a fjrmware update bringh me th 60 fps ultrawide recording option. I hope samsung can do the same think with my fold 4

that ultra wide is the same introduced with S20, bigger, better and newer, same one as S22, it does support 60fps but Flip and Fold keeps getting the ancient CRAP sensor.
I think that it will be enabled via firm/software update. We saw that in the N20 series and, the UW câmera can record 4K30 so it is able to deal with the data of 2K60 (roughly the same bandwidth)... Maybe the problem is lack of time to sync and adjust frame pacing...

I don't know how much clearer I can be, this is the same UW camera used in first Flip, Flip/Fold3 and they haven't got any update to 60fps as the camera sensor don't support it, otherwise it should have been there from day one, S22 does support it because of better sensor.

According AndroidCentral`s review, It's a newer sensor as published here: https://www.androidcentral.com/phones/heres-how-much-better-the-galaxy-z-fold-4-cameras-are
"The Ultra-wide sensor and cover camera sensors are the same resolutions but are newer sensors than what's in the Fold 3."
If you have another source, a maybe a teardown, we can ask for a correction on AndroidCentral article...
According SamMobile (https://www.sammobile.com/news/sams...as-a-mixed-bag-of-new-and-old-camera-sensors/) the Ultrawide sensor is a Sony IMX258 and the datasheet indicates 1080p60 support (https://www.electronicspecifier.com/attachment/view/59aeb13e5a8ec97c2c8b4570/Sony IMX258 Datasheet)
And also SamMobile thinks there is a chance of Fold 4 receives a uppdate to shoot UW at 60Fps: https://www.sammobile.com/news/sams...ort-4k-60-fps-ultra-wide-video-recording-yet/

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 review
The Galaxy Z Fold4 comes with a very similar rear camera setup to the one found on the Galaxy S22 and S22+. The selfie situation, meanwhile, is the same...
m.gsmarena.com
For the ultrawide, our Fold reports the Sony IMX 258 - a fairly ancient imager with a 1/3.06" optical format and 1.12µm pixels. Its native resolution is 13MP, but Samsung lists it at 12MP, and that's the size of images it outputs. While the sensor itself has AF capability, the camera as a package doesn't support it. The lens covers a 123-degree field of view, as per Samsung's specs, and has an f/2.2 aperture. That's the Fold3's contribution to the rear setup, while the S22 uses a nicer 1/2.55" sensor with 1.4µm pixels.

GSM Arena`s Fold 3 review indicates that the Sensor is a Samsung S5K3L6... I think that or the reviewers are lost or there is several camera setups out ther on the same models...

I don't know but it's still a crap sensor that is being used, I could record 60fps with S20, S21, S21 Ultra and S22 with the UW camera, so no way the Fold is getting any software update that enables it.
