PlayStore is unable to Update Chrome after MiUi12 updated in my Redmi note 8 pro. - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello I'm umesh soni, from India
As i mentioned, my playstore is unable to update Chrome browser and its Plug-in (or whatever you call it) WebView, since I updated my phone to latest Android version 10.
I tried to clear Data and force stop, play Store, re-start my phone, clear cache... Every possible thing....
Also I tried to uninstall the chrome, but since chrome is my pre-installed primary browser so I cannot completely uninstall it, so when i tapped Uninstall button, basically it just uninstall the update and back to older version...
Even After doing this, the update button stays unresponsive, i tried to update via opening playstore.com from browser, and tried to update Chrome, and it also not worked.
So finally after everything i decided to download Apk file from other sources, (Apkmirror.com)
But this is not the solution..
Please tell me why only chrome & WebView is not updating, and rest of the app are working completely fine, and update when ever i want.
Please help me...
Thank you.

Hi,
I have a Xiaomi Poco F3 and a Redmi Note 8 pro that are facing the same issue, I have investigated a bit more by doing an adb logcat on only the Poco F3, and I have found that the following error gets triggered when I try to update Chrome.
Code:
4-10 00:34:14.008 17140 17170 E Finsky : [993] tvh.apply(44): IQ::GROUP_INSTALL: Error validating group. Rejecting requests: [com.google.android.trichromelibrary, com.android.chrome]
04-10 00:34:14.008 17140 17170 E Finsky : com.google.android.finsky.installqueue.impl.preprocessor.GroupInstallValidator$InvalidGroupException: GROUP_INSTALL: Group com.google.android.trichromelibrary and com.google.android.trichromelibrary have overlapping module [com.google.android.trichromelibrary, com.android.chrome]
long backtrace from java
TLDR: Cannot install chrome update because group trichromelibrary and trichromelibrary are in conflict.
Yeah makes senses since this library exists already...thus it conflicts with itself.
I don't know why this check is only made under MIUI 12, and not LOS (Lineage OS roms for instance) because I could update chrome on LOS with no issue like this, this doesn't look like a Google Play Store issue but more a MIUI 12 issue.

Various app crashes

Bought my 5T last week (used) and immediately I installed magisk to root and xposed. Since then though I'm facing bizarre issues that come and go.
I was unable to add a Gmail account from settings as Google play services would crash
The Facebook messenger app would crash as soon as I open it, I downloaded the lite app and its OK.
The most common issue im seeing is Instagram crashing when I try to swap accounts. I can try to swap account, the app will hang and eventually crash. I try again and it will crash. But like an hour later it will be fine...
Also clearing dalvick and cache from TWRP seems to get it to work immediately.
I've had other things crash to which is strange as on my OP2 I had no such behaviour. The phone is lightning fast but these crashes are super annoying.
Anyone have any suggestions on what I could do? Not sure if reinstalling Oxygen OS could help and what's the most efficient way to do this while getting magisk/xposed back.
I have a 5T that has magisk installed. I did not install xposed yet and am not facing any if these issues. Maybe try uninstalling Xposed and cleaning cache?

Should be cause of some xposed modules, elaborate the versions of magisk, xposed and the modules installed. And your oos version too. And substratum?

I've got xposed 90.2-beta3(systemless) installed, version 3.1.5
Android 8.1.0 - Oxygen OS 5.1.2
Magisk manager is 5.7.0 and installed version is 16.4 (though it says latest version is 16.0)
Only have 3 xposed modules actually installed.. ChromePie, SnapTools Beta and Xinsta. I could disable the xposed status for a few days and see how I get on, I assume that is enough without uninstalling it? Not sure

There should not be issue with things what you have mentioned above. These modules too are app specific, and what about substratum and magisk modules?

yeah exactly, like I uninstalled xinsta but it didn't stop it crashing (sometimes) when switching accounts... Even Magisk just crashed a minute ago as soon as I opened it to get the version, it was fine when I re-opened it.
Substratum I've never heard of before
Magisk modules all I have is Xposed framework and Youtube Vanced

Again no issues could be caused by these. Maybe try updating the apps you specified or try different older version
Try this older fb messenger for example https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=889964283620770051

It just seems to be related to quite a few apps so trying different versions would be annoying, might try it with Instagram as its the most annoying.. Just went into recovery and wiped dalvic cache to switch accounts again.

Nope
I did an OTA update which caused the phone to not be rooted and went back to stock recovery.
I used it for a few days and had no crashes, especially Instagram when switching accounts. Yesterday I flashed TWRP and installed Magisk root again and since have had crashes again... odd.

Youtube problem - android 4.1.2 stock

Hi.
I have gt-i8190n version, with latest stock rom 4.1.2 with root.
There is a problem i would like to have your help. It concerns with youtube app, after it updates to latest version for android 4.1.2 it opens and start working ok. but when i close the app and later on open again, it shows me a message saind that there it a newer version for youtube app, and to update. When i try to update, clicking the button, it opens google play store, but no updates are avaiable.
The only way i can work around is going to settings, clear app data, and it works again normally like the first time. But after the 1st use (closing and opening app), it cames back the message to update again.
Is there any way to overcome this permantly (not updating android, stock rom works very nice for daily use, comparing to alternate roms like lineaageos (tried CM 13.0 - android 6.0.1 during one or 2 months it has several random reboots and lagging... and no NFC).
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Same problem here on Galaxy Core GT-I8262 but after several reinstalls,YouTube shows network error, but when I open up the browser, I can surf the Internet.
late reply but turn off google services framework

Finally found the solution on the Mi Forums.
Goto Settings -> Apps -> Permissions -> Autostart. Enable both options for 'Google Services Framework' i.e. 'Allow apps to start automatically' + 'Allow the app to be started by other apps.
Restart phone.
After that I could sign in.
Maybe the Autostart setting is necessary for contacts and calendar as well.
Thank you! You saved me a lot of trouble, I was about to install new ROM on my phone just because of this problem.
I am replying to this in the event that someone else has had the same problems. I have a cc9 pro China rom. I downloaded the miui 12 update yesterday and Google stopped working. After several hours of trying all the fixes mentioned here and elsewhere this si what worked for me.
Delete everything Google.
Redownload the Google.apk from get apps.
Go through the cycle but parser error will come up.
Go to downloads and click install for first item.
Back to Google apk press button again for second item. Parser error will show.
Back to downloads and install.
Do this each time.
Once installed go to play store and make sure auto updates are turned off. After getting this working the play services updated with the newer version, which in turn stopped everything working again. And I had to go through the entire process again.
DO NOT UPDATE GOOGLE AY STORE OR SERVICES.
The only thing now not working for me is youtube which is not compatible with the old version of the play store.
Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for posting this - I was having major issues on my Mi 10 Lite Zoom until finding and trying this. Everything worked great - for about a week, and now none of my Google stuff works again?? Any thoughts on why? I guess I'll uninstall everything Google again and redo your suggestions above, but I certainly don't want to do this once a week?? Thoughts?

Hi
You just have to try to make "Google Services Framework" and "Google Play services" to Autostart, as i told above.

Question Cannot update Chrome application on global Poco F3 due to unfinished configuration of brand new Android device

Hi all,
I've tried to update my chrome application (the pre-installed on my Global Poco F3 which is under MIUI Global 12.02 stable global) I have tried multiple times to update the Chrome app from the Google Play Store with no success to this day.
I've investigated using adb logcat and I've seen a specific error trigger itself :

I have tried to update chrome on a Redmi Note 8 pro without success as well. However, under LOS (Lineage OS 18.1) another phone has successfully updated the Chrome app, meaning this issue is probably not due to a weird Google Play Store bug but most likely due to MIUI 12.
Anyone has encountered this issue ? And is there any way we could work around this ? (instead of waiting for a potential fix in MIUI 12.5)
Thanks for any help on this matter, I can provide the whole backtrace if anyone want to see it but I doubt it would help anyway since she looks pretty obfuscated to me (the only thing I could understand was some execute function being called but all the classes names have been randomized and most functions call names too).
Hi! This is usually a problem for those who have set up the system for the first time. I also encountered this, after a while Google Chrome was updated on its own. The same applies to the Android System WebView application. Wait for a while and the app will update.
UPD: Or you can download right now from apkmirror.com, if you want

Okay, try log out from your Google account, then clear data & cache Google Play Services, Service Framework and Google play store too, then reboot and login again, but not sure about this method
I cannot understand the mistake. I updated Chrome to the latest version 3 days ago.

You were correct, I had unfinished the device configuration (the first time you have to connect your Google account etc.) hence it didn't work to update Chrome and Android Web View, I just finished it right now and Chrome did successfully update. That's weird I think Android should change (if this issue is at the Android level).
In the end I didn't need to do all this logging out, clearing data & cache and so on, just finishing the device configuration solved the issue.

I had a somewhat permanent notification that said something along the lines of "Finish configuration of your device" I clicked on it and then I pressed next and tweaked the last options, once that notification was cleared, all the Google Apps kinda of updated themselves somehow (I saw some of them even reinstalled themselves that was a bit weird but everything went fine afterwards).

Thank you for your help.
Unfortunately I didn't have this message to "Finish configuration". So, I followed a tutorial on internet and erase all Google play store and Google Play services data.
After that rebooted the phone and put my information again on Play Store and than the update starts working for it self.

Good thing you figure it out, and also thanks for explaining how for others who will face this issue, maybe sometimes the notification disappears for some reason or the configuration doesn't finish successfully and this issue happens.

Question Chrome not getting installed on EU ROM

Hi,
Today I flashed my Mi 11X Indian variant with Miui EU ROM 12.5.2.0 via fastboot method. After a few attempts I was able to successfully boot into EU ROM. Now my concern is that by default the ROM doesn't come with Chrome App and I am unable to install it via playstore. I tried installing via Apkmirror apk file. I installed it. It shown as successfully installed. But Icon isn't visible. I navigated to Settings-Apps-Manage Appe and here I see Chrome as installed. I went to playstore where too app shows as installed but no OPEN button visible. Tried opening a web link and in the prompt window only firefox and opera were shown as options. Chrome wasnt shown as an option to open link with. Please help me. Does disabling/uninstalling any google bloatware may be a cause for this. I did use ADB tool and disabled/uninstalled google App, google assistant etc.

Thanks. I think its the same persistent problem of android web view and chrome not getting updated which has been there for a few months now. After installing everything, just cleared the playstore data and cache and again tried to install chrome. Something happened in the background and chrome got installed. It wasn't the same as other apps got installed, something downloaded in the background and then some 5MB of Chrome app downloaded from playstore and then it got installed.
Thanks. My issue got resolved.

Hey thanks for replying. Android Web View was installed as soon as I setup the handset. Only chrome wasn't getting installed. I tried installing via chrome apk too, but still dint work. I couldn't see app icon but can see it in settings->apps->manage apps. Also could see uninstall option in playstore at chrome app page. Uninstalled it. Then cleared data/cache of Google Play Services apps in settings->apps->manage apps. Then again went to playstore and tried installing again. Couldn't see anything happening but as you mentioned something in the background was getting downloaded with file name containing "trichrome". Then after it got downloaded, then only I could see chrome getting installed in playstore app.
I rm alsi having this issue, not even installing trichrome from an apk works, I am stuck
