The prices of Google's new budget phones don't match by region - Google Pixel 4a 5G Guides, News, & Discussion

I live in the UK and right now I'm in the market for a midrange phone that will last a couple years. I've had my eyes on the OnePlus Nord, Pixel 4a, and now the new 4a 5g.
I think Google kind of blew it with the pricing here. In the us the Pixel 4a costs $349. That translates to about 270£ but Google still sells it at 349£. Ok, an extra 80 quid is more but it's not that bad. Well now they are doing it with their new phones too. The Pixel 4a with 5g should by all means cost 385£. Instead they sell it for 500£, a full 125£ more! Imagine your Pixel 4a 5g costing $650! That is almost as much as their new flagship.
This pricing is intentional, as they have noticed the difference in price between regions was getting ridiculous and they've dropped the Pixel 5 to 600£ ($775).
I'm very disappointed in Google for that one. I don't see their new phones selling well here with how competitive the midrange market has gotten.

But doesn't Apple do the same? I recently purchased the 4a because my 2XL rear camera got damaged and I could not see myself jumping into another phone when I use it mostly when I travel. I would look how much bandwidth you plan to use and other conveniences that make sense and refrain from all flagship phones. I don't understand why Americans tend to make the rest of the world wait for a intro phone and even charge more......especially to countries that assisted in the manufacturing process to begin with.

Germany pricing is 486 euro`s (436 pounds), wich is descent imo for what you get.

When is the price dropping?

I'm in the market for a phone for under $600. Obviously (and hopefully) the pixel's price should drop once the pixel 2 hits the market. Any idea when this will happen and how much of a reduction we're looking at? Any idea if we'll have an idea after the press conference on Wednesday? I saw a s8 today for $599 with no strings attached from my carrier (T-Mobile) so I'm considering that but also want to see what the price will be for the old pixel.

Once released you should see about a 50% drop in the price.

That's a little high. I would say 35-40% except you go for the refurbished which could be about 50% lower. Don't forget production for the old pixel ceased, all you have left is the inventory and refurbished units.
Now a new resale of XL 128G would be around 500, comparing to USD 869 for a brand new from Google Store.

I'd love if this were to happen. Any idea on when we'd see these reductions based on recent trends? (e.g. the Nexus 6p dropping when the Pixel came out, the S7 dropping when the S8 came out, and so on. When does this usually happen?)

Oooops, saw it wrongly. That was a blue 32G Pixel for 500.
But it seems $500 can buy a mint/good condition Pixel XL 128G.

I scored a brand new never opened 128gb XL from an eBay auction for $605 a few days ago...it even came with the $89 LifeProof case sold on the Google store

Any Expected Price Range ?

Hey,
I heard its going to have a 90hz panel , new back camera layout and cheaper than 7 Pro. Any expected launch date and price range ?
I saw an article claiming it would be cheaper than the previous version. Not sure if it's true, and if it is, how much cheaper it will be.
https://phandroid.com/2019/09/06/oneplus-ceo-promises-their-next-phone-will-be-cheaper/
My bigger question is if it'll ship to the US and Canada or if OP is going to be lame again.
Chinese price at the first day:
OnePlus 7 8/256GB - 2999 RMB - 384€ - 423$
OnePlus 7 Pro 6/128GB - 3999 RMB - 512€ - 565$
1. The non Pro version need to be cheaper than the pro version, anytime!
2. They said "under the 7 Pro price" which means <3999 RMB - 500€ - 550$
3. OPPO (OnePlus) need to bring something like 90Hz. I can get a Mi9 here for 399€ or a Mix 3 for 330€ and the OnePlus 7 starts with 559€ (128GB), so almost nobody get one.
In EU I think ~600€, in India ~500€ and China ~440€
Sounds to be a good price for all it's loaded spec's...
The expected price of Oneplus 7T is $499.
Just wondering if people are planning on getting the 5G variant? I am on Verizon in the US, I want a fast processor in the best RAM possible, just don't know if I really care about 5G
550€ in EU
In India ₹ 37,999 for 8GB 128GB model (~$ 537) and ₹ 39,999 for 8GB 256 model (~$ 565).
Any ideas who will be selling it on contract in the UK?
The pro was only with EE (5G variant) and then Three (6GB RAM variant)
Neither of them very cheap by any means.
Hopefully more pick it up but I fear that it won't.
UK release date is the 10th October, hopefully we'll know more by then.
Unless you guys have heard anything?

At this point in time I don't think 4G coverage has peaked, even in the best areas, in my house the best I've ever had has been 276Mb downstream and 79Mb upstream, which is comparable to a decent broadband connection.
But on average, even living in London I get between 30 and 80 Mb, plus I'm not all for 5G, have read some worrying things about the technology, apparently used to be (probably still is?) As a weapon, depending on the strength it can be quite devastating.
I know worrying isn't going to change anything but at the same time I don't have to like it.
In terms of performance at this point of time, I'd stick with 4G. But that's me.
Better for battery too

Is the price too GATDAMN high?

As most of you might know the Galaxy S20 Ultra Will cost $1300 USD and I'm not too sure what to think. On one end it offers the best of the best in terms of specs but on the other hand $1300 is a lot of money.
That's about $1750 CAD in my province that comes out to $2008 with taxes. That price is too GATDAMN high!
I already know that I want it but I won't be pre ordering this time around. The prices usually go down a couple of weeks after release anyway.
What's your take on it? Is it a GO a hard PASS or does it fall somewhere in between?

I would wait a bit, last year in late april samsung had that blue ribbon event. The 512gb s10 was the same price as the regular s10, plus there was a 10% coupon and a $200 trade in bonus, that 512gb s10 ended up costing me $903 cdn after taxes
It will most likely be a 450-550 trade in for s10 series trades

My Wife thinnks I am crazy - but I will be getting the S20 Ultra - I will either trade my Note 10 Plus or sell it on Swappa after I get the new S20 Ultra. I don't like the fact that it is so expensive, but the only way it would be cheaper is if it didn't have the same amount of enhancements and quality hard ware. Its understandable that it is going to cost more based on everything it has....and honestly, it sounds like it will be worth every penny.
Im surprised they dont have trade in deals like they always had before!!! all they are offering is $35!!! really??

Canadian prices...
s20 128gb - $1320
s20+ 128gb - $1580
s20+ 512gb - $1780
s20u 128gb - $1850
s20u 512gb - $2110 + 13% tax = $2384 lolololol
I think i'll skip this generation, the s20 doesn't even have a 256 or 512gb version and the s20u is too rich for my blood. No blue ribbon even will discount it to my liking, and that space zoom is only 4x optical, the rest is sensor crop+digital zoom.
Aside from a few upgrades etc theirs going to be minimal performance increases from my Note 10+ and the S20 Ultra. I'll wait until later on this year and grab the N20* (if that's what they call it)

I don't see any 'non 5G' versions though.
It would be nice to see that. Because for the vast majority of us, 5G is as practical as tits on a bull and I'd gladly choose a non 5G variant in order to save money on something I'd never use.
Of course, with the S10, if you wanted the best device you didn't have a choice. The S10 5G was the best. Until the Note 10 came out. But with (the Note 10) you did NOT have to get a 5G version to have the best.
Looks like it doesn't exist in the US but in other countries lte costs 100 euros less
Sent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk
No I wish it would cost more because people who really need to buy the absolute gold standard phone no matter what price are stupid enough to pay any price.
Like getting only 95% of the features in a S20 for almost half the price isn't an option.
I like seeing what a phone can possibly do but some people should think twice about wasting their money so thoughtless
Is it too expensive? Well yes if you can't afford it just buy a S20. Like you couldn't live without a 108MP or 100X zoom
It's like complaining about a ferrari being to expensive. Just get a toyota or whatever and stop complaining
If the s10 camera and radio performance was not so bad I'd never even consider the s20.
Honestly though there are equally good options out there now for less money. I'm using the OP7 pro right now and only the camera falls short but the pixel and last gen Huawei's still have epic cameras as does (whisper it) the sub £1000 iPhone 11

In my opinion if you take good care of phones the price is just right. Its 1.3k but you get good trade in value for galxy series/Note am currently getting 700$ for my Note10+ that about half the price of the phone. And in my opinion this phone is totally worth the 600$ after trade in.

Question Pixel 6 and 6 Pro officially go on sale in Italy and Spain at the Google Store

"Sadly, the Pixel 6 is only available in Just Black or “Carbon” on the digital storefront in Italy and Spain with pricing capped at €649 for the 128GB model with free shipping included. Similarly, the Pixel 6 Pro is only listed in the Just Black or “Carbon” color option priced at €899 with 128GB of storage.
In both regions, the devices will have “limited availability” and “additional devices will be available from May.” At the time of writing, both devices are still in stock with shipping available within the next few days."

Maybe they're getting the excess 128 GB units from Canada and the US that no one wants as we wait for the 256 GB version to arrive.

no Canadian models have mmwave either but the past 2 weeks in CA, all 128gb models are in stock with 2 day shipping. Who knows what the real story is but more availability is always better. we knew prior, that 5 months after release, there would be tons of stock. always happens with the pixels. months 1-3 wait is a few weeks. 4-8 is fine with plenty of stock. After 8 months good luck trying to get one without some work. hopefully it changes this year but I guess they don't sell enough handsets to keep stock if 12 month old devices like Samsung or Apple

Which great but the US ones do so my point remains.
In the UK you can buy a 256GB model just by walking in to a shop (which is what the original post i quoted mentioned) where as a a month or so you had no chance whatsoever on any Pixel 6 variant, so supply has improved or demand has dropped depending on your point of view. To be fair up to about a month ago you could still buy a new Pixel 4a so that was available for around 16 months in the UK and was only discontinued on the last day of January this year. Why Google pulled the Pixel 4A 5g and Pixel 5 after a few short months is anyone's guess.

General Anyone going to get the zfold4 after the 3?

Considering most models can't be rooted I'm not a 100% sold on another fold BUT there might not be any good alternatives though.
I might go back to OnePlus if I can get it unlocked at the beginning for custom roms, but I'd rather enjoy a device more than work on it. I have some hopes for the nothing brand but I'm not sure they're ever coming to North America.
I'd appreciate some good discussion about it and others thoughts.
Yes, I'll be looking closely at the Fold4 and if there's a reasonable tradein I'll very likely go for it.
The only alternative is the Vivo that has a great spec but not yet available outside China and will it have good support?
No. There isn't enough of an upgrade for me to bite the bullet. I'll wait to see what the Fold 5 has to offer or if there are other mfg. that come up with something better.
nahh im happy with my fold 3, does what I need and more. Fold 4 has little upgrades to make it worth it
Sammy is just not being competative. If I were to upgrade, I would be more likely to spend the $ on the Vivo X Fold. Unless Sammy has some huge surprises in 10 days - which I doubt.
Going to wait until the 5 cones out.
It would be a help if we knew when the Vivo Fold was going to be available.
If the trade in is good
Just ordered the X Fold, through Giztop.
.......so the device works in the U.S.A.?
I'm in the UK. Taking a risk but I know of another one that is working.
yeah, upgrading from Fold3 to the Fold4 1TB version
I'll be ordering the Fold4 the minute orders are open. Jury is out on Watch 5 classic 44mm though.
Just got my fold 3 on a RIDICULOUS sale, doesn't appear the generational gap between 3 and 4 is all that large. I'll be rocking the three until they announce/release the 5

I got mine for what I feel like was a great price early this year. Mint condition on Swappa (and the phone really was in mint condition) for 800+plus taxes and fees

That was a steal! I'm happy for you!
Ill upgrade if the cameras are vastly improved and include periscope zoom of some sort, that's my biggest gripe with my fold 3, sub par cameras. 1tb would be a nice since im running out of storage on my 512gb fold 3 so if they offer that i may do the upgrade for that even if the cameras arent what im looking for.
Yes, I had the first 3 and haven't had any issues. Hoping for a surprise pre-order only color, but the beige looks kind of cool.
Does anyone else think it is uneconomical to upgrade after a year, without fully paying off the Fold3?
