[GCam] Working Port 7.4 - Moto G 5G Plus Themes, Apps, and Mods

Got my hands on this nice phone about a month ago and so far I'm more than satisfied, but I was definitely missing good ol' Google Cam.
Since nobody pointed it out yet, here goes - Moto G 5G Plus owners are in luck. Arnova's port is working flawlessly on this phone.
I'm using build 5.1beta1.200620.1924build-7.4.104 and so far, so good.
DOWNLOAD
Everything seems to be in working order - didn't even need the "canonical" post-installation reboot - and in three weeks it only occurred to me twice that I had to reboot the phone because it stopped saving pics. And in both cases I had been using both this and the Moto camera app together, so there's that.
Quality feels good - very similar to Moto's own camera but with less compressed and with more intense colors. Calculation of ISO is where I could really see the difference - GCam is noticeably more precise at this time.
As you may guess, it does not support macro mode. Personally, I just switch between the camera apps when I need to/feel like it.
Haven't tried the most recent beta from Arnova yet, will update the thread if I do.

Nikita's 7.4 port also seems to work reasonably well - even down to being able to add and use the auxillary cameras (all bar the depth camera take photos)

Any recomendations for configs ?

I've installed Nikita's 7.4 port, does anyone have a recommend config? Either the XML or just some idea's on things to tweak? The difference between the Motorola camera app and Gcam on my old Moto G8 Plus was very obvious, but the difference (IMHO) is less pronounced on the Moto G 5G Plus but I suspect I need to change a few settings first to get the best out of GCam.

Thank you! I had to join Telegram to get the XML file but it's made quite a big difference.

Which version of Nikita do you or should I use?
There's a two different versions;
NGCam_7.4.104-v1.9_eng.apk (com.google.android.GoogleCameraEng)
NGCam_7.4.104-v1.9_snap.apk (org.codeaurora.snapcam)
And a newer version v2.0
NGCam_7.4.104-v2.0
Do I need root access?

can work in the Moto G 5g (model not plus)?

Don't know for sure, but it most likely will. This port version works on a number of phones, and AFAIK there are not many differences in this regard between the Plus' and non-Plus' hardware and drivers.
Give it a try and remember to reboot the phone afterwards. Clean up app data if you installed a previous version.

what about version:
GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v2.5.apk
I installed it a few days ago and it seems to be working well so far.

[Question]About to buy the phone, could you give me a few tips?

Hello!, I'm about to buy the Zuk Z2 phone tomorrow, it's the Aliexpress one that comes with multilang ROM (I think there's only one seller so I don't have anything to add about it). Anyone tested this ROM? Never flashed a phone so don't know if should I or not.
Main features I liked from the phone are the U-Touch swipping thing, front fingerprint sensor and camera, but looking at the forums, custom ROMs has less features on the camera (and I think they also get worse quality), also viewed a review that said that after 3 months of use, the fingerprint sensor started failing to recognize his fingerprint at the first two or three tries. Does the problems get solved with those ROMs? What about the camera? It gets really worse? Are there custom ROMs with the great performance, battery life, qc3 enabled and also stock camera or there's not such a perfect one yet?
Thank you a lot!
I think I can explain the fingerprint problem. When you use the U-Touch button often, the sensor gets dirty and needs to be cleaned before it can recognize a print. Someone on the forum said putting tape on the sensor helps, but that just made fingerprints stop working for me completely. What I did was disable U-Touch entirely and use the software nav keys. I mapped the U-Touch functions to other stuff - like double tapping the home button to open the dialer and stuff. Stock ROM doesn't let you do that, but some custom ROMs (I use AEX 4.5) do.
Camera isn't really that great. I don't need a camera so I don't mind, but I've seen better stuff for the price.
Also, I don't think QC3 works on any ROM, although I'd love to be corrected on that.
Hey, see if the Xiaomi A1 is available to buy instead for a similar price - IMO it's a much more well-rounded phone, and I've seen a Snapdragon 625 phone (Redmi Note 4), and it's about on par with the Zuk Z2 in performance, IMO. You get better benchmarks on the Zuk, but actual usage is 100% the same. Mi A1 has official updates from Google and a better camera too.

I'm also torn between A1 and Z2 (lol funny names). The main feature (for me) that the Z2 has is the smaller 5" screen. I prefer a compact form factor plus the z2 also has a 500mah bigger battery. I just hope that some kind soul ports the latest and greatest of android to the z2.
btw, does volte (jio) work proper on custom roms?

I think so? Not sure because I don't have Jio personally, but a lot of ROMs advertise VoLTE.
I can confirm that the battery on the Z2 is excellent - I get anywhere from 6-8 hours of SoT and I didn't even do any tweaks after installing the ROM. About the form factor though, you're not going to notice a huge difference - I hold a Z2 Plus and a Redmi Note 4 side to side, they're not really that different. Where the RN4 is wider, the Z2 Plus is thicker. I'd imagine the same would carry for the Mi A1.

Yeah, I brought a Z2. The A1 is good but the updates aren't handled by Google. If those Android One phones would get updated the same day along with nexus and pixel then maybe i would have given it a second thought. Even now, its launching with Nougat and they "promise" that it would be updated to O in 3-4 months. In three months, most phones get custom roms ready so no use of buying the xiaomi a1. I also don't sign up to the dual camera gimmick. If i even buy a phone for the camera, it would be the pixel or nothing. On the Z2, i couldn't care less. i can just carry my dedicated camera.
Now i just hope that VoLTE works nicely cause i use jio as my primary carrier and as you know, they don't have 2g/3g fallback.
I wouldn't buy this phone if given a chance again. Even with custom ROMs performance is below par.

Sure, that's cool. Have fun with your new device!
- my phone is now on AEX 4.6
- Jio is working without any issues. I can make calls from it even without turning on the LTE data.
- I use U-Touch single tap for 'back' and long touch for 'Google Now on Tap', and left and right swipe for one-handed mode. I don't like the sound when pressing that button, so never use that.
- so for 'recents' and 'home', I use 'Swipe Navigation' by Suphi : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.suphi.swipenavigation . I even purchased the full version. This is one of the better phones to use this app since there's no button (even capacitive) other than U-Touch. It has many customisations like long swipe for last app, dock, etc. More than that, it consumes only ~8mb of RAM.
- installed >300 apps, LTE mobile data always on, location (battery saving) always on, adaptive brightness (on day) browsing, chatting, gaming, watching videos,.. and still get 5-6 hours of SoT
- I don't care about the camera that much. So can't say anything about that, but I'm very happy with the results.
- for my smaller hands, 5" phones are good. And I love large screens if they're bezel-less (but these are expensive )

pixel camera in G4?

Im wondering if the camera from the Google Pixel could be installed in the G4. The physical camera, not the software, well the software too.....
I have seen that its possible to instal the kdz for the google camera w AI. I have seen the quality of photos the pixel can make, I have tried (ok Im trying) to install the G4 camera in my G3, but it requires some chassis mods).
I have read all I can about the cameras in the Pixel, and the G4. i think they are both made by sony.
they look the same (comparing pictures of products for sale on ebay)
could one just pop out the stock camera and install the other? Is there some kind of system check that is performed before boot?
why or why not?
cheers
alan
It could work if connection are the same but it's not so easy. Anyway after changing the camera you'll need also a Rom supporting it with correct "Drivers" or you'll have only a bunch of errors XD
Someone reached to do camera swap in really similar phones.

Oneplus 6 Camera port to Oneplus 5T??

Hi all,
Wanted to know if there is any chance of the oneplus 6 camera app being ported to oneplus 5t AND if it will produce any better photos than what we are currently getting on the oneplus 5t.
A part of me hopes that oneplus is just waiting for enough oneplus 6 units to be sold before sending out an update for oneplus 5t that will give us the same processing software and power as the oneplus 6.
Thoughts and opinions on the above are welcome from all, especially the developers who have made this website the awesome place it is today for all mods and apps.
rgds,
Gcam on the 5t takes way better photos than the 6 ?*?

Does it actually though? I've compared pictures and I'm seeing gcam has a bit better overall color from the HDR processing but there is quite a bit of graininess in mid-low lighting settings. OOS cam definitely still does have oil painting effect but it's a lot less pronounced in the latest builds than it was on release, and photos in mid-low lighting are not near as grainy as gcam photos.
Care to change my mind and share your gcam setup/5t fixes you used?

Use the latest apk 7.9.5 and the fixes. Do some research in the unified thread. When hdr enchnaced is on. Longer shutter time. The photos are incredible. Hdr on doesnt do much atm (it used to but thungs are getting fixed atm)
Just dont touch to focus in hdr enhnaced. ( you need root tho. )
please remove
Not rooted yet so haven't tried out GCam. Since i have an extended warranty and damage protection, etc... I have not rooted and frankly ..this is the first android phone where i don't feel the need to root as such. I am more inclined towards an unrooted port of the oneplus 6 camera or maybe an official update... hope it happens sooner or later.

the google camera port with latest fix is not compairable to oneplus 6's software or oneplus's software in a decades
the way it handles colors noise and skin is unbelievable
both front and rear hdr I feel now that I don't need to upgrade for a better camera my camera now is more like top 5 smartphones

A question. I have the version 7.8 of the Arnova Pixel 2 with the libraries in Magisk V1 because with the V2 and the last Gcam I lost the facial unlocking. Is this already fixed? If it is fixed which version should I install and what mod of Magisk with the libraries without losing the facial unlocking?

Thank you very much mate. It is amazing this camera so good.
I just took some pictures and have improved more to the 7.8
Can we say that it is better than the native of OP6? I believe that yes hahaha.

of course it is there is no much of improvements in the op6 over op5t
the slightly big improvement is in low light only but still the op6's camera is far from google pixel ,apple and samsung
we get pixel quality photos with this mod so we have a top tier camera flagship degree
We probably take better pictures than the pixel xl 2 because we have a wider f1.7 lens lol

I would love to root it but it is under warranty and apart from the camera, i don't see the need to root it for anything else.
Believe me, this is the first phone i am using where my fingers are not itching to root it straight out of the box.

Starting a thread to pledge some tips for GCAM development (Snapdragon)

If someone can make a decent GCAM version that works on the Note 20 Ultra (Snapdragon), I'd be willing to put in $20.
Anyone else willing to donate, please chime in. Let's get the ball rolling.
Basic requirements for GCAM:
1. 4k video needs to work
2. front camera needs to work
3. astrophotography and night mode need to work
4. others? maybe 108megapixel mode would be great if possible
Just hang on
It will be fixed

Arnova already has a beta build out that is mostly functional. Night and Astro are working, 4k video is working. Front cam isn't but that may never happen unless Samsung brings back RAW format for FFC. I'm currently using it on my Note 20 Ultra with great results.

Came here to post this as well, been using this one for a few days now. Most things work, image quality is sometimes questionable with night mode but it certainly does work out of the box. I believe this was a hotfix update too, so we should be seeing a better version roll out soon
Sorry what is GCAM? is it google camera - and its relation to astrophotography?

As an FYI, there was a GCAM that worked very well with the Snapdragon N20U. I've since sold my note but I'm sure it won't be difficult to find

Question how is the camera quality ?

does Asus rog 6 pro compete with the s22 ultra or iphone 13 pro max ?
Nowhere near.
It's definitely a league below, particularly in low light & video quality. A solid B- compared to the A-listers.
It's okay to good, for general social media requirements/ daytime photography.

I looked a lot of review, the right hardware is there, the main problem is the camera software i will try with gcam apk and/or with some other camera application from Google store. Cameras software is the only weak point of this phone
Nope. You don't buy ROG devices if camera quality is a big thing for you. It does the job - that's it.
Try this gcam from BSG and my config file. Tell me what you think. Cheers.
as mentioned by some, the hardware is there but software is bad, even with gcam the results are poor due to bad API implementation.
6D ultimate here - inconsistent performance. sometimes it can be ok, sometimes it's crap.
imprecise blurring for portraits
lacks detail
inconsistent exposure
generally favours day light, and poor with low light

Snapdragon even worse. Suffers from the exact same issues, however its just worse. It's generally accepted that the camera software is beta at best.
I'd love to see a full proper gcam port done for this phone
This whole phone is obsolete at its price. Everyone knew SD8 Gen 2 is coming shortly after the ROG 6, now it is here and every new phone out there will now smash this gaming phone AND offer a twice as good camera performance at a lower price.

Thanks a lot for sharing these files.
Does the GCam package automatically replace the standard camera app?
Do you like the improvements?
As others, I believe the hardware itself should be just fine (not sure about the lenses, though) but the software is letting the phone down regarding IQ out of the box.
