New Surface Duo System Firmware update available Build 2020.910.72 - Microsoft Surface Duo Guides, News, & Discussion

I manually checked the Duo for a system update today, 06.Oct, and saw a new system firmware update was available. Wasn't expecting the update until mid-Oct. It says "update to improve performance and stability". Took longer than expected to install. Optimizing apps process took the longest. Sat at boot screen for a few minutes on restart.

?same, did not notice any difference. why the hell did not make a button to switch the camera

Working slot better for me. Much more stable

Optimizing apps right now just battling touch quirks since day one. Let's see how this works.

It's complete.... SwiftKey still sucks.... But holy crap she's snappy as hell!
It's intense

I could not update due to unlocked bootloader.

Hopefully AT&T will release it this week...

Just got AT&T update 2020.910.73.

I purchase a demo surface from best buy and I am trying to get the newest update but it said is updated. But still running the old version. Anyone knows how to install the newest update some how?

[Resolved] Apex 9/24 Update FC's

Don't install the new Apex Launcher update until you've read the long list of reviews posted on the Playstore. *Everyone* is having FC issues. I hope this excellent launcher gets fixed soon.
It seems that the beta version of 1.3 (not available on the Playstore) was working fine for everyone, but the release version is apparently seriously broken. So until it's repaired, which will probably be soon, it's best to take a pass on the update.
Edit: See message #6 for a link to the working beta if you need it. (Thank you, jaidenwarren). The beta does work with the Pro license if you have it.
Edit 2: Reviews are now saying that the FC problem has been fixed.
Thanks for the heads up. But I recommend everyone uses beta version. Never any issues with them.

Yep, took down both Nexus phones here, one running JB and one running ICS. Luckily I had a backup on my JB one, my partner's phone wasn't so lucky.
Anyone having the force closes just reinstall the beta version if you were on one.

Thanks!
I will give you a link in 5 minutes.

Well, I'm sure the Apex developer has woken up to a nightmare scenario this morning. I'm a little surprised that the Playstore page hasn't at least reverted to the old version until the new one is fixed. Must have his hands full at the moment.
If, like me, you have Apex set up as the default launcher and stock launcher removed, the update can sort of soft-brick your phone. I had to restore a nandroid to get my phone back, like some others.

You can adb push a launcher into /system/app/ and it'll ask you what launcher you want to use.

And the version pushed out to the Play Store is newer than beta6.
That is why you always read the comments before updating an app
(unless you have auto-update enabled)

Just checked and apparently the broken Apex update has been fixed. At least that's what the reviews are saying now. Haven't tested it personally. Incidentally, it now wants more permissions (read call log).
Take a look at the one-star-review bar on the Apex Playstore page. It jumped from nearly invisible to very substantial overnight! Every dev's nightmare.
I can confirm that the latest version in the Play Store is now working.
it's been fixed and is now smoother than ever!
OK, thanks, guys.
That was pretty fast work by the Apex dev(s). About 12 hours from broken to fixed. Not bad.
Yeah, the update this morning killed it for me but the update I got later today made it all better
Don't update using the web downloader just tried it and every time I tried to go to home it fc. Then I updated on Google play and it fixed it.

S Finder Emergency Update

Has anybody gotten this message/update? Is it safe to update with root?
Yes - I had this too and updated. But I suddenly thought that it didn't seem quite normal
Update just seems strange and I couldn't find anything on the web.

I've just had this flash up on my screen but cancelled it as it didn't look right.

Just checked and it shows in my task manager as a Samsung Apps notice but when I open the Samsung Apps app it disappeared and does not show in Notifications. Very strange, I would proceed with caution until you know for sure that it's an official update

Still have the window up on my screen, not able to find any information on the matter online.
edit: Seems legit, since "Samsung Apps" is running the service/process (EUpdateService) (?)
I too have this on galaxy s5 I've emailed Samsung support for advice will post their response.
I'm guessing it's legit. I cancelled it to check which version I currently have and it's 1.0. I went to the Samsung Apps app and found this. S Finder 1.3 ready to update.
If anything, I'll update from Samsung Apps instead of this emergency message thing.
Just did the same as rawrfische took me from ver 1.0 to ver 2.2 don't seem to be getting pop-up anymore

Thanks guys
Ditto. Updated to 1.3 from Samsung apps. Got to say Samsung need to make these update messages a lot more clearly identified as coming from them than that update screen.
Thanks guys :good:
Funny thing is that I cannot find S Finder anywhere in my Apps drawer but i can access it by holding down the menu button. I am rooted but didn't freeze it. I hope that updating it doesn't affect root.
How come everyone seems to be offered ver 1.3 not ver 2.2 as I was offered?

S Finder Update
I *hope* this is the correction to the S Finder search issues that I've encountered since the kitkat update. I absolutely loved s finder because it could search both my phone and other apps, most importantly, Evernote, with a single menu button click. since the update to kitkat, it has no longer been able to search Evernote or any of the other apps. I have posted about this problem at least three forums for Android, as well as the Evernote forum, but have gotten no meaningful responses to date. Fingers crossed!
I'm on AT&T NOTE 3 un Maryland but have not gotten the update as yet. Anyone have any other info re rollout timing?

Ya I dunno either. Hmm.

Memory Issues STILL

What up guys,
I feel like I can't be the only one still experiencing memory issues even after the 5.1.1 update. I have tried so many things to resolve this but even after a fresh reboot, I open one app and the free memory drops to 700 MB or lower. This can't be right, my wife has an LG G3 and has 37 apps running in the background yet has 1.3 GB free.
I have edited the build.prop (even though the tutorials were based on 5.0.2) to see if that would improve things but it did not.
Quite honestly, day to day use...it isn't super noticeable but when it is, it is very annoying and I know that is the underlying reason. It's just one of those things in the back of my mind where I'm like, "come on, this is a flagship and was quite expensive, this shouldn't be happening.
Is anyone else experiencing any of this at all?

Of course, we all are. Unfortunately samsung dropped the ball when it came to arm64 and memory management. I don't think it will be resolved as long as the S6 runs TouchWiz. I'm not entirely sure why the S6 is having the issues it is, but arm devices aren't having the issue even on 5.1.1. Apparently samsung did set the dha pretty aggressive on the S5 and note 4 but they're able to adjust it and it runs well.

There's no way of finding out but maybe ALL your apps are running in the background at the same time. With the old style app manager you could tap the ram button and you would get a toast msg telling how many apps closed.

(Discussion) how are your impression of android 8.0 on pixel c?

As you all know Google has rolled out android Oreo to the masses , including the pixel c . I've got the notification on may tablet but too afraid to click install since 7.1.2 working really well for me . My main concern is battery life , being burned with 7.0 before I rather weary of the new software update to 8.0 . I'm using my tablet primary to take notes on lectures so I need a solid battery life.
Can any of you give me an impression of performance and general usability of pixel c with android Oreo installed ? I am using stock pixel c without and root or modifications
Android O works like a charm on my Pixel C. The performance is good, generally no stuttering, lagging etc. Microsoft Word isn't working though, Google Docs saves the day. I use the tablet for notes in lectures too, and I easily get a day and a half of use.
Edit: I'm on stock Oreo, no root, no mods.

It's nice to know . I'm using quid as my primary note taking app . The Oreo impression is generally best across all pixel devices except for people who wanted all of the new feature on their Nexus 5x. . . Anyways thanks for giving your input!
I guess I'll wait a couple of weeks before attempting to update . My exam is coming soon and I cannot accept change in my tablet yet.
P.s this forum is really quiet isn't it ?
Your welcome
I can imagine Android O isn't the best match with Nexus 5x. I had the 5x for a couple of months and all it did was throttle and stutter. My old Nexus 5 is way better on Nougat.
Yes, it's a little too quiet her here, hopefully it picks up.
OT: I tried to find Quid in Play Store, the only app I found was Quidd, a virtual sticker collector app in beta. Can't imagine it works well as a note app. Could you please guide me in the right direction?

I haven't actually used Netflix or Youtube, so I can't help you there. I enrolled in the beta program at dp4 and received an OTA of the public Oreo release about a week ago.
Only been on Oreo for a few days since installing and seems to be ok, no issues.
Doesn't "seem" to be a major update.

Clearing cache only gives me force close when trying to start the app. Force close is better than a white screen though.
Installed my OTA update to Oreo from Nougat 7.1.2 today. No issues so far but haven't really done alot either and update went smoothly.
I did notice that this Oreo update also shows a Updating Firmware splash screen that I've never noticed in other updates. Did I just not see them or is this new? What was changed in the FW?
I installed the update....
and apart from a oddity, where the update screen seemed to get stuck in a loop looking for further updates (I had to shut the pixel c down, and start it back up, to fix this)..it's been a fantastic update so far, very smooth and far more fluid. Everything seems to be a bit snappier, and it seems to be loading webpages and youtube more efficiently, and quickly..
BUT!!...I wouldn't recommend you update immediately if you, can't afford for anything to go wrong, as i tend to find that something will be broken somewhere, that we're not yet aware of (like Picture in Picture crashing when you try to use it)....
Maybe wait until you've got all your important stuff, out of the way before you update...
Hope this helps?

nah , it´s okay. To be expected really. after all next month pixel c will be 2 years old.
No, afaik project treble will be available only on phones launching with O.
About my experience, the update seems pretty nice so far. The performance is about the same. I never had lag or bad perf on this tablet honestly. The only problem I have had are two random reboots two days ago. The rest is fine.
As with all major revisions of android, it will take some time before all the apps are fully compatible with the Os and use the new APIs.
So I flashed in fastboot and run magisk. There is a weird situation when you reboot to go into recovery it says it is flashing firmware, I not seen that message before.
Magisk works, passes safetynet check.
I saw mention that Word crashes, well that is still true initially, when I open a document, it opens then then closes again, tried it 3 times then it stayed open, something about needing to download fonts? So it works eventually.
Battery status is weird, when plugged into power it is says is it NOT charging, when I pull USB cable out, it says it is charging. Small bug, but what you expect for version 0 of 8.
Chrome closes and reopened a few times, but then settled.
I rolled back from clean Oreo to Pure Nexus 7.1.2.
The main reason why is unbearable lags in Youtube app - when the active video is minimized and you want to browse Youtube it's just completely unusable. I think couple of times it stayed this way even without a background video.
Overall I was not happy with the performance so went back to Nougat and the difference is night/day.
