Samsung Internet - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

I have the galaxy s20 fe. I'm debloating it and was wondering if it's safe to remove samsung Internet. I only use chrome so it's just taking up unnecessary space. If so does anyone know the package name?

It is safe to removed samsung browser

Try out Mozilla - works much much better on my s20+ variant compared to Chrome

Samsung Internet is great for watching movies and vids.
Get a few free ad blockers for it and it does very well.
In spite of going to knurly sites it is pretty immune to malware unless you do something stupid.
I run 4 browsers, Chrome being my least favorite and used.
I use each one for different things. Samsung is my movie time browser...

I agree. Once I started using the stock browser on Samsung I really liked it over all others. The true dark mode is a godsend on my eyes. The ad blocks really come in handy in dex mode browsing YouTube. No more double ads taking seconds of my life

Yes the dark mode is sweet for movies.
I use it to watch vids on some of worst adware/malware infested sites relatively immune. Nothing's got through for 10 months running. Same for Brave.
You can also customize the toolbar and it's placement. I run the beta version as well.
Brave is the other one I like because of its complete on the fly ad and privacy controls.
You can easily see what each site is -trying- to do to you. Detects and blocks browser fingerprinting.
Browse sites like Fox news without one ad or Tracker.
Minimum setup; punch a couple toggles and it automatically remembers that site's settings.
Only downside is it uses bit more battery and saving bookmarks is a nightmare... still.
Here a cool trick that the Samsung Browsers do...
Quickly Open a New Tab on Samsung Internet
Opening a new tab usually involves at least two steps: Tapping on a menu button, then selecting "New tab." Samsung Internet has a simple solution to shorten this process — just long-press the tab button along the bottom of the browser to open a new tab immediately.

Opera mobile beta finally here!

Wow, I love this board...!
Opera mobile 10.1 beta works like a charm on my Galaxy S Doc Froyo XWJPO v7.6.2. It even downloads flash-videos (e.g. tagesschau.de) and opens them with the internal video player. Only live stream is not working.
Thanks a lot. Is Opera going to publish this version or will Opera Mobile 10 for Android only be pre-installed on selected devices? (I read something like that on areamobile.de --> uu.uu.uu.areamobile.de/news/13631-opera-mobile-10-jetzt-auch-fuer-android)
Isn't the final version going to be released today?
Works amazingly fast and smooth on my galaxy s. I love it! It doesn't play all our even most flash content so it can't yet replace the stock browser, but once plugin support is there, I'll only use this one for sure!
Will the mobile version compress data like mini did?

I has an option to use compression or not.
What I like the most is reflow on pinch to zoom same way as on my nexus modded aosp stock used to be. Very familiar as symbian user as well.
No flash yet. Hope it comes.
Available on market now!!!
Also for those not familiar with the opera you can change opera user agent by opera:config menu (many other settings as well like cache, ram management etc.). User agent 2 will give you desktop and will auto launch youtube app so it's still better quality than what you get by default on mobile site as a consultation for not having full flash.

How do you get to the advanced settings? I cant seem to find it on this beta release
Gave it a quick try. Very good but still not perfect.
When zooming in the images and text are blurry for a second and it only updates after you stop zooming, unlike the stack browsers where it's instant.
It is very smooth when scrolling though.
Also in landscape mode, I can't zoom out fully. This is weird, why do they do this? It's not as bad as Opera Mini was in landscape but it still prevents this from being as nice to use as Dolphin HD. I want full control of zoom all the time, not just in portrait mode.
Also can't import bookmarks from the stock browser. Hope they add this ability.
Needs an exit button for when you don't want to leave it in the background, like Dolphin HD. Sometimes you want to close it so it doesn't return to it's previous state and rather starts 'fresh'.
Will keep it to see future updates and maybe if I want to preserve bandwidth when using mobile data. But Dolphin HD will stay as my default for now.
I have a problem on JPA... Internet browser won't save as default, no matter how many times I set it >_<
Great news.

I can zoom in and out completely in landscape and in portrait
Imports bookmarks and speed dial from desktop version. And unlike chrome to phone it actually works.
Agree with you for the rest except this is my browser of choice now. Waiting on beta 2

Depends on the site.
As a test go to myadsl.co.za.
In Dolphin HD (and I assume default browser too) when I hold the phone in landscape I can see the whole width of the site.
But on Opera I cannot, it refuses to zoom out that far.
It also seems to take longer to load the page (using Wi-fi), regardless of the Opera Turbo setting. This might just be someone else in the house using the connection at the same time as me though.
I'll give it a go later and maybe post back my findings. Opera Mobile on Symbian and Windows mobile were very good and i'd tried Opera Mini on some dumbphones as well and it worked well. I hadn't tried Opera Mini for Android as I didn't like the idea of only being restricted to using Opera's proxies (I assume that was the only option).
Opera Mobile 10.1 Beta for Android direct link from Opera or pick a version yourself over here.
No flash integration.... sigh.

I really was interested in having the youtube app playback youtube videos instead of the stock player. i changed the user agent to 2 as you describe above and it didnt work. i tried clearing cache, cookies, etc and restarting my phone. i have a htc droid eris running 2.1. can you provide more details on how you were able to get the youtube app to launch automatically from opera mobile?
thanks in advance.
Sorry seems web ignores uset agent string right now but if you go to bottom of youtube page and select full site next time you launch opera it will remember it and launch app respectively.

Thanks for trying, but it didnt work for me. it must have somethign to do with the url on youtube. It tried to launch the youtube player as you indicated but i got an error that it couldnt connect to the server.

Set it to whichever string you want from "User Prefs" -> "Custom User Agent"
Opera Mobile is the first browser to actually challenge the stock one for mobile browsing supremacy.

I tired string 2 as discussed above but it didnt work. i am a bit of a noob, so can you go through the exact settings when i do about:config? is there an index of what user agents the numbers correspond to? for example, when i use skyfire, the videos launch just fine in the youtube app. however, i agree with you abotu opera mobile and this is the only thing i need to be all set.
thanks in advance

Browser questions

Hello everyone,
This is my first android device and I have a couple of questions regarding the browser:
1) Is there a way to add a plug-in to the browser to behave like iOS's Safari "Reader" functionality? Something that will basically display the text of an article without all the fluff (like ads and whatnot)?
2) The fonts used for the different sites I frequent seem to be a bit off. Are there fonts missing from the stock android that I need to add?
3) Zooming-in to a piece of the text by double-tapping seems to be a bit off, for me its zooming in a bit more that it should leaving the last few words of each line of text outside of the view. Am I doing something wrong here?
Thanks a lot!

what the...
1) "Reader" functionality? some kind of jailbreak hack? Anyways, I believe you can disable images in the settings of browser (theres a ton of settings there so go check them out). As for ads, there are some apps out there that do that.. but as a dev, I'm pretty against it so maybe someone else will point one out
2) Thats even more weird.. the Galaxy Nexus does use the new roboto font and it does use this to render websites. But you're saying some websites appear off? Got any examples?
3) huh? double-tapping works very well for me. Again, some example sites? You're double tapping on a segment of text right?
For #3 you probably need to turn on word wrap/reflow or whatever it is called. Occassionally doesnt work and you need to refresh on dolphin browser.
Sent from my samsung gt i9250 which is in the wrong state.
The answer is yes
For issue #1, there is! You don't need an account, but I would highly recommend signing up for one at readability dot com
Go the Android Market and search for Readability. Download the Readability Bookmark app and create the bookmarklet. This will create a bookmark with no icon called Readability. Then just go to any page with boat loads of text and images and ads and garbage and click the tabs button to show the bookmarks button, click it and then click the Readability bookmarklet.
It's a terrible workflow but it does work. I've been using it the past couple of days and it's very comparable to the Reader button in Mobile Safari.
For issue #2, I don't know of anything like that.
For issue #3, I have the same problem. Double tap on a column of text and the column fills the screen with just a few words off of the edge. I've played around with the browser settings and I can't get it to work. Pretty much any site with text, to answer kwazi's question.
Thanks for the respone!

It just formats the page to make it all text with no images or ads or anything else that doesn't belong to the article you're reading. Its like the Readability plug-in for desktop google Chrome and Firefox.

I noticed this while reading on a boxing site I frequent: www.eastsideboxing.com
I also noticed the same with websites written in a foreign language.

Thanks. Do you think this can only be done under Dolphin browser and not the stock one? I've just checked the settings of the stock browser and didn't find that option.
I have a question, will Last Pass be able to plug into it something like it does with Dolphin?
After further inspection, the font looks just about right when zoomed in (for English at least). I think my eyes are not used yet to see cramped text on this display
So I guess the only thing that I still can't figure out is how to make the double tap zoom work properly.

I need qupzilla and uc browser appx

Hi! I install windows 10 rt in my surface rt 1. I thinks thats a solution for Internet Browser problems, but not
I have the same problems for navigate with a lot of page like youtube google classroom and a lot of
I need one browser can let me navigate within any problem. I read that qupzilla and uc browser are very good
but i cant find them. Anyone knows where can i download or give me a link of them. Thanks!
UC Browser is an ancient Windows RT version, will be much worse than Edge.
QupZilla is an ancient browser that no longer even exists and was turned into Falkon, the Windows RT port can't do https either so you're stuck being unable to access like 90% of the internet.
The trick is to use Windows 10 and play around with the hidden Edge settings like enabling web pages to use as much RAM as they want. Also it's recommended to use store apps wherever you can instead, for example use MyTube for YouTube, LikeBook for Facebook, etc.
And if there's no app already made for the site you want to access you can use PAWA or AllPWA to create a sort of PWA of it, it'll still run as a web page but performance is much better than in Edge with the added bonus of being able to set an user agent and access sites that block old Edge versions.
And for better performance remember to restrict running in background for apps that you don't explicitly need to do that (so apps you don't need to get notifications from) AND use game mode for an extra boost as well, also disable any unnecessary service like Windows Defender, search indexing, etc.

Did you grant it permission to add tiles on first add?
I personally tried on 3 tablets and there's a lot of users using them also without issues so you may be doing something wrong. Also remember the tiles side of the start menu scrolls separate from the apps side.
WhatsApp web worked perfectly with a Firefox UA in AllPWA last time I tried.

I just posted a video why you should change to samsung internet browser

No ads, Inc youtube and fast and less battery use... enjoy
Mod Edit
Nice maybe I'll use it a little. But I can't give up on tab groups on Chrome. It makes organizing so efficient. And you can go into developers mode and enable force dark mode which works most of the time on most apps

Only thing stopping me is not being able to sync my bookmarks from Firefox.
I know you can import them, but I'd rather sync them so if I make changes on my desktop it reflects on my phone.
If anyone know a way to sync bookmarks I would probably switch to Samsung browser.

Same issue with Brave
I use both the Samsung Browser and it's beta version to watch vids. In system dark mode it's the best browser for watching vids.
Add a few ad blockers from the Galaxy store and it's good to go.
Pretty much malware bullet proof too, lol I've tested it extensively. Simply close that window and check downloads just to make sure.

Question Any app that truly shines on the Fold 4?

Everyone has their favorite apps and the fold 4 makes a few of them very much engaging and more useful obviously due to the amazing screen.
Are there any apps/ games/ activities that you think in particular have become more usable and indispensable on this device?
For eg. I really like using tradingview for analyzing stock charts. Really can use more indicators on the go.
Also, I love reading FLIPBOARD and amazon kindle app.
What are your app discoveries?
Spotify and Outlook do a good job of using the ZF4 like a mini tablet on the inner screen
Telegram, Gmail, MS Outlook/Teams and Office Apps, Lightroom, Canva, Chrome, GoogleDrive Apps, YouTube, Zoom Meetings...
Just this morning I had training in the office. At the end there was an assessment and to get the questions you needed to scan the QR code. This then took you to the training website and to the questions. Everyone was either squinting to read the questions, swiping from right to left to read or did their phones in landscape. No problem for the Fold, simply opened the inner screen and viola! Reading the questions was a breeze
What's the offset difference between Microsoft Outlook and Samsung Email? I've tried outlook but the ads annoy me, and I don't need the Microsoft suite of apps enough to subscribe to 365. Is there any stand out feature that Ive missed that could make me switch?

I've been using the outlook app without the MS365 suite and it doesn't have any ads.
Probably u can try adding dns.adguard.com to your private dns and it will block all ads on all aps.
Samsung email is a great app and i've been switching on and off to outlook but since last 2 years it has been my primary email app. It has improved a lot.
Also, if u have a hotmail or live.com email, u can directly create task from emails to MS todo ( another MS app I can't do without)

Agreed. Any app that has anything to do with reading makes a great use of F4.
Video media consumption is kind of ok because of the aspect ratio and usually it gives the black bar sandwiching the video content. But I guess a 16:9 phone would be a bit odd. But also beautiful.
Does anyone know how to play videos in YouTube a little bit zoomed in, but not fully (so It cuts off less of the video but uses more of the screen? )
Total Launcher is the best launcher and the best app for me
4 Screens: horizontal folded, vertical folded, horizontal unfolded, vertical unfolded and i can customize them all.
Samsung Notes: I've bought a s-pen and it suprised me how good that app is. Got it synced with my girlfriend and we write, import, manage everything in it.
I agree total launchers cool, and seems to work well with fold 4, ita Just alot of effort to set up each screen in my opinion. Any one know any other launchers that work well with dual screen set up?
Ironically, Apple Music.
We can now add Google Keep to this list (it's been a staple of mine due to its cross-platform support for a long time anyway). They've just added a two-pane mode which works on tablets AND it works unfolded in landscape mode on the ZF4.
Anyone else got any more app recommendations for our Fold 4??
The obvious one is DraStic, the DS emulator and Citra, the 3DS emulator. Like, it's just asking for it.
I'd also say that Infinite Painter really takes advantage of the extra screen space when unfolded.
Another great find, Win-X launcher now supports folded screen v21.4, now my fold 4 can look like a windows pc!
book reader apps, have read quite a bit of ebooks already
Does anyone have any other new recommendations for apps??
