i found this recovery in msm extended telegram chat.
the installation did not format my data since i have all my apps working and i can see the entire internal storage when i connect the phone to pc.

I have this recovery on my device for a later time in case I decide to move away from OOS so I can't speak to experience...BUT:
My understanding is due to decryption/recovery on this device the chinese recovery will work BUT the limitations are that if you are on OOS currently you cannot decrypt storage, HENCE you will not see anything in TWRP (again that is my understanding). After backing up the device and wiping the data partition at minimum (most custom roms seem to require us to fastboot wipe our partitions from instructions ive read)... then we can use this version of recovery for custom roms.
I think the major difference between this one and the official version here is of course the unofficial nature of this twrp but also the chinese twrp will let you flash (not boot) the recovery image without issue so we can still USE OOS OR flash custom roms without things going...wrong?...I plan to wait until the A11 OOS upgrade before I make a decision. After learning about how 1P botched the recovery keys + partition issues with the A10 launch I think its just better to see how development goes AFTER the new year maybe

Hmm l was of the understanding that if you format using the chinese recovery all will work on oos will see what's what and report back as soon as l find it and flash it
So flashed Chinese twrp couldn't mount data until l formatted data using it then l could see everything in storage but it reverted after a reboot and would need formatting again to see storage also it seems much more functional that the mauronofrio twrp but the decryption issue is still an issue for me at least. It's ashame nobody is working on this to give us a better twrp.

What's "this"? And what do you mean nobody?
Check twrp gerrit and github and you'll see lots of progress. Fastbootd has been implemented, and dynamic partitions are pretty much handled now. Only significant thing would be decryption, but let's hope Android 11 fixes this as Google once again has changed things regarding to keystore.

Ok l stand corrected just wondering why mauronofrio hasn't released an update or updated his thread. So OnePlus have to implement changes to keystore with Android 11 so they might fix it ?

TWRP 3.3.1 for the Redmi Pro

Today I want to share with you the device tree I have made to compile TWRP for our Redmi Pro as well as the images of TWRP to install directly to the device.
What are the advantages of having the recovery compiled from source?
The main advantage of having the recovery compiled from source is the ease to get the recovery updated. Whenever TWRP updates their recovery we will have that version in our phones because we will only need to compile the recovery with the device tree that is already done and that should work perfectly and shouldn't take more than half an hour if everything goes well.
Then I will be updating the recovery when a new version is released

What I would recommend you is to format data from the recovery so that you will get a compatible data with the rest of recoveries. However you will lose everything you had in the phone
Did that, data was gone but still no partitions recognized...

It should be working well :S
Did you really choose format data? (Not wipe data or factory reset) if so try to do it with another recovery, for example with one of the incompatible ones

The advanced format menu you say is for wipe, not for format. You have to go to wipe in the main menu and there yoh will see an option which is format data (not inside the advanced wipe part)

Unable to Mount Data in TWRP

I recently flashed OOS 8.0 Beta 1 and now I am no longer able to mount my data partition. I have flashed the official TWRP and Blu_Spark TWRP, but neither is able to mount data. It does not provide any error messages, but when I attempt to mount the data partition it simply will not mount it.
Any suggestions? I am willing to wipe everything if needed, as I performed a back up prior to flashing OOS 8.0.
Thanks in advance!
You are probably encrypted, I think TWRP is not able to decrypt data yet.

Yes, so it don't work fully, and it's better to either don't use security, (but what's the point of encryption if phone is not secure), or don't mess with risky stuff for now, till twrp bug gonna be fixed.

Either blu_spark or ibe recovery work. They also work with lockscreen security setup, no problems over here.

How do you figure? I've successfully backed up my previous ROM and flashed another one using that TWRP, my device is encrypted properly, I've reset lockscreen security, and my device passes SafetyNet.

I had this problem after installing TWRP 3.2.1-1. A new version was released last night (3.2.1-2) which I flashed this morning and seems to solve the problem. You can find the new version here.

AOSP, RR Resurrection Remix, ArrowOS and others

I just wanted to point out that I have been able to boot some treble GSI on my device from different roms like AOSP, RR, ArrowOS in the treble section of XDA and some of them boot fine, but I have found some issues:
PHH PIE GSI doesn't like magisk it breaks wifi and mobile data once magisk is flashed
PHH Oreo AOSP GSI I do not remember any issues besides being too stock for my liking
RR GSI It has so many options almost comparable to what a Venom Rom would be for HTC devices
TWRP it is not able to read encryption on any of this GSIs
AOSP Oreo I don't remember if the other variants GSIs does not read exFAT formatted MicroSD (works on PIE GSI)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development
I would like more users to share their experience here with GSIs
the steps I took to flash this
1. make sure you download an arm64 AB GSI image from your favorite ROM
2. go to TWRP wipe section wipe system, Dalvik cache data & internal
3. go to TWRP wipe section format data, type yes
5. restore stock Vendor.img and stock Boot.img
6. flash GSI
7. reboot & enjoy
first boot might take awhile it encrypts the device, thi is the part that makes TWRP not being able to decrypt data since TWRP decrypts Qualcomm Encryption on our device but no stock android encryption this part it is possible to fix by TWRP team and it will probably come in later
Thanks for sharing. I was planning on trying out a GSI this weekend and see how it goes. Glad it works!
I forgot to save the stock vendor and stock boot file I need these two files Can you help

Read the OP there
I tried to boot the RR img, no dice.
Backed up modified rom on slot b
Switched to slot a in TWRP, supposedly empty
Wiped system, data, cache, dalvik
Flashed prior stock vendor img and boot img
Flashed RR ab arm64 su gapps Img
Rebooted slot a
Bootloop
Interestingly, after looking 3 times, my phone booted back to slot b by itself back to stock, back up restored just fine
I realize I didn't wipe factory reset with yes
Finally got RR to to boot! It's a very finicky process. I think my problem was I kept trying to "dual" boot, Viper in one slot and the GSI in the other. Turns out it just has to be in the active slot, regardless of which slot you switch to in TWRP. Maybe that's obvious for some. This a/b partition business sure has a learning curve.
Anyway, things I noticed on RR: Lots of customization as usual for RR, very fast and smooth, screen brightness is on max all the time regardless of slider or auto brightness, and I couldn't make phone calls but texting worked. Everything else seemed to work fairly well. I love the fling navbar....on to the next one.
I'm not sure if anyone else is trying the GSI's, this doesn't seem to be a very active thread. So far I have only been able to boot RR 8.1 GSI. I have tried multiple other images without any success. I think the reason I didn't get data and calls didn't work on RR is that I am on Verizon and the HTC u12 does not have CDMA radios. Volte calling was not available on the rom. Oh well. I'm excited for the upcoming developments in the Viper forum. If anyone knows a fix for data on verizon with the GSI's, I'm all ears. Thanks
Anybody successful in making one of this ROMs a daily driver?
Sent from my HTC U12+ using XDA Labs
Resurrection Remix 8.1 is pretty stable if you are on a gsm network. I popped in a Tmobile sim card and it was pretty solid. There are some minor annoyances like the inability to adjust the brightness (always on full), though decreasing screen pixels makes it more dim, vendor mismatch message on boot, and no volte or wifi calling. There may be some other small things like with the camera and bluetooth but I didn't keep it for long as I am on Verizon and don't get data. I could see using it as a DD though. There are probably ways to fix the annoyances I mentioned.
Have any of you tested this version of RR on U12+?

Unable to wipe data in TWRP

So, I unlocked my bootloader and wanted to flash Lineage OS, but my phone had a different opinion.
I went into TWRP and tried to format data, but I'm getting
Code:
Formatting Data using mkfs.f2fs...
mkfs.f2fs -t 0 -r 16384 /dev/block/mmcblk0p56
process ended with ERROR: 1
Unable to wipe Data.
Unable to format to remove encryption.
I've tried repairing the data partition, changing the filesystem, nothing works...
Any ideas as to what might be wrong, or how to fix it?
Thanks

I was using TWRP, but I somehow managed to fix it using Redwolf. Have no idea what happened, but it's ok now.
Hello, I encountered the exact same issue with same origin...
Do you remember what you did to sort this out ?

(I posted in another thread, before finding yours)
You should check the f2fs kernel workaround guide .
Your problem is due to using incompatible twrp .
Read the guide you'll get around the problem .

Thanks... well that's weird, because I downloaded the TWRP recovery linked in LineageOs kuntao install page and I'm coming from stock...
Anyway I just solved my issue by installing Redwolf recovery :
There I could format /data.
I installed crdroid + gapps, but got a "Encryption Unsuccessful" on reboot.
I changed /data from f2fs to ext4 and could reboot properly.
Phone is working good. (I can't get fingerprint reader to unlock my crdroid rom but that's another story and maybe normal limitation, I'll check).

If you ever need to format data just use official build from twrp.me. The one from Lineage wiki has some problems for now. Redwolf is probably based on official one, that's why you succeded.
The thing is that you need to use it ONLY to format /data partition and then switch back to Lineage one before flashing system zip. Known problem, wiki is just a little misguiding here.
Hello. Same problem here, not solved with RedWolf, neither official TWRP.
I've just followed the guide about lineage 15.1 and I really don't know how/if proceed.
Any help would be really appreciated

Thanks.
this issue seems to pop-up now and then.
just to make it easier for future users coming across this issue. I had explained the issue here in the following post and how to fix it.
just scroll down till it says: "so for those that would like to switch to f2fs but for some reason end up in "black screen with blue led and the phone vibrates".
it applys to the same /data issue.

Full Nandroid Backup Solution for LineageOS 17??

I got Lineage 17 w/ Magisk root running now neat and great and I want to perform a full NANDroid Backup.
After some research it seems crucial to have a custom recovery like TWRP for that. There is the online nandroid thing - but I would need CWM or anything like this to restore?!
So my question is
a) is there another custom recovery (compatible with Pixel 3a XL w/ lineage 17 based on android 10) I can install and perform Nandroid backup with?
b) any other solution to perform this backup and restore? I heard there are cmd commands for that as well , but I'm a noobie not so sure to do that.
of course there are several apps out there to backup data.. but I don't trust ''any'' app to get root permission. In F Droid I couldn't find what I was looking for. Suggestion?
thank you for help!
It is unsafe to perform backups while booted into Android, as files may be changed/added/removed while the backup is taking place.
This is why it tends to be a feature of custom recoveries.
Titanium Backup is good. It doesn't support split APKs like YouTube but the data restore works flawlessly. This is an old utility app so you can trust it with root. You can find Titanium Backup on the play store, it is the one with the star and "root required".
If you want to perform full backups of your PHONE you will want TWRP. If you want to perform full backups of your APPS then you will want to use an app like Titanium Backup (however Titanium Backup is not updated for split APKs, like I said above), which will allow you to transfer your backups to a new phone and fully restore all apps & data (as long as both phones have root).
Sure problem is I want to perform a full backup of my phone, but TWRP ist not available. What are my options?

Does TWRP for Pixel 3a XL not work for you? All you have to do is download the "twrp-installer-3.4.0-0-bonito.zip", install it as a Magisk module, then direct install Magisk again, then reboot into recovery and you'll have TWRP.
When accepting OTAs, you will want to use the "TWRP A/B retention script" before you install Magisk to the inactive slot. The script is available as part of the Magisk modules repository, so you should be able to install it directly from within Magisk Manager.

Benn trying to get this to work for a little bit now and no luck at all....
Let me start by saying i an NOT running LOS so that might be the whole issue...
I have tried with pure stock and stock with ex kernel
Same results for each
1) TWRP loads as the recovery and can be booted into, BUT the rom is now soft bricked and wont boot at all
2) Even when in twrp I cannot flash anything, cannot see sdcard and cannot backup data partition (the data partition shows as 0 space)
Perhaps the LOS kernel or rom adds something thats missing in my two setups?
The sample video is for another phone. My recolection is that twrp and pixels on android 10 or 11 wont work. Lineageos 17.1 is android 10 based. I think it worked on that other phone as it was not a pixel.
Can anyone confirm or deny if this works in any configuration of android 10 or 11 on our phones?

Benn trying to get this to work for a little bit now and no luck at all....
Let me start by saying i an NOT running LOS so that might be the whole issue...
I have tried with pure stock and stock with ex kernel
Same results for each
1) TWRP loads as the recovery and can be booted into, BUT the rom is now soft bricked and wont boot at all
2) Even when in twrp I cannot flash anything, cannot see sdcard and cannot backup data partition (the data partition shows as 0 space)

Huh, that's weird... I apologize, I'm not very good at supporting devices I don't own. I'm not running Lineage either, I'm running stock plus mods.
It's possible that it doesn't work on your phone for whatever reason. There are a couple ways to install TWRP nowadays, check them out maybe? I promise TWRP is what you want for backups.

Agreed but twrp simply doesnt work on our phones, or even any pixel 3 or above. It can't read the partitions correctly. Just trying to keep people from soft bricking their phone. Something about andriod 10 and 11 and the phones a/b partition configuration

Where did you hear this? I'll admit, I haven't heard about TWRP not working on Pixels, but it's relevant and it would be good to know if I ever help another Pixel user in the future.

That's interesting, because my OnePlus 7 Pro runs Android 10 with an A/B configuration and TWRP works just fine. Haven't found a single feature that didn't work. Flashing custom ROMs, changing boot slots, etc. all work fine. So it can't be the A/B configuration.

No method I have tried results in anything but an unusable twrp or a boot loop. Cant even fastboot boot current version. All about dynamic partitions and lzma compression as I guess the partition isnt big enough. But bottom line is I have yet to find anyone including myself who can get twrp to in any way shape or form be usable on our phones for android 10 or newer.
this is what command prompt gives with fastboot boot
Sending 'boot.img' (65536 KB) OKAY [ 1.509s]
Booting FAILED (remote: 'Error verifying the received boot.img: Invalid Parameter')
This is likely due to the kernels I use likely not having lzma. Checking into it.
fastboot: error: Command failed

I'm not sure how reliable is that. I just did a backup of Lineage 17 in TWRP, System and Data, restored it a few hours later through OTG and it got stuck on a google boot screen... Now I installed the LOS 17 ROM again (which I had in internal storage) but restored only Data (excl. storage).
It boots up now, but most apps are corrupted - if I open them they crash ('App ... keeps stopping').
I wouldn't count on it. TWRP nandroid backup is very unreliable.
