Trying to get samsung pay on a device (s20+) without it - maybe changing CSC? - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

Hello.
Here's the back story. Bought my phone from Egypt unlocked s20 plus. Recently moved to canada and trying to get samsung pay to work. Downloaded the app from google play canada but it says that device is not supported. Downloaded it from APK mirror but it just says it needs to update, even though this is the last version.
I was told that getting the BTU or DBT CSC might fix this, since they come preinstalled with samsung pay.
First of all, can I do this by just flashing the firmware (not changing CSC)? Or do I need to change the CSC using samkey? I don't mind flashing first, if that didn't work then using samkey. But would rather go with the route that people think will work straight away.
I'll write all my device's info that I think might be needed to make this as complete as possible. Then I'll put some questions that are confusing me.
So to start this, I bought my phone from Egypt and I'm currently in Canada. Since it's a dual sim model, I have a Canadian SIM as my primary and Egyptian as my secondary. Currently, I'm getting wifi calling but not VoLTE. Reading a bit on this, some people are saying that my network intentionally locked people out of this option if they didn't buy the phone from them. My network is Fido btw.
Model: SM-G985F/DS (4G)
Product Code: SM-G985FZADEGY
PDA: G985FXXU4BTIB
CSC: G985FOXM4BTID
Basebad: G985FXXU4BTI6
Bootloader: G985FXXU4BTIB
September Security Patch.
One thing I'd like to point out is typing "*#243203855#" in the dialer does nothing. Maybe it's because it's not supported? Or the fact that I have dual IMEI?
Questions:
1. Is there benefit of using DBT over BTU?
2. With my bootloader being BIT 4 (I think?), can I use samkey? When I checked it, it said that they only support BIT 1 and 2 on their website. I could be wrong.
3. Is it safe to purchase samkey credits off ebay?
4. Is samkey itself safe? It showed up as a trojen when I installed it. Could be a false positive? Downloaded from the official site btw.
5. Is flashing BTU enough for this to work or do I need to change the CSC?
6. Can I revert any changes that I've done to restore the device in its original state? If I change the CSC, can I revert it back to EGY?
7. Will I get normal OTA updates while I'm here in canada? This applies to both flashing and/or changing my CSC?
8. I would love to keep wifi calling, call HD, and hopefully get VoLTE (but I understand that this might work). And obviously the main reason for this whole thing is getting Samsung Pay to work.
Sorry if these questions might be obvious, I'm really trying to understand this so I don't ruin anything and don't regret anything.
If someone is willing to help me further, I would greatly appreciate it.

I am unsure about majority of the things you have question about, but one thing i know for sure - samsung pay on my s20+ was rarely working making me look stupid at the shops - since i switched to google pay all issues are gone and payment is going through everywhere

The one thing that I care about with samsung pay is the magnetic card replication. I forgot what it was called MTP, or something? This is something that doesn't work with google pay.

The MST function was disabled in 2019 for all the smartphones sold within the EU (at least) due to a new regulation regarding MST technology.
I don't know if it's working elsewhere.
Still, for me SPAY has been working flawlessly for over an year or two, never had any problem, with or without MST

Oh? This might actually be useless than. So this is a hardware change or a software one? Since mine was bought from Egypt. I plan to flash the UK software on there. I'm not sure if it'll have it or not in this case. I guess without MST, what's the point of using samsung pay over google pay?

Importing S7 active to Europe

Dear xda
First off, I absolutely love the concept of this phone: strong, big battery, great hardware,... and I dont really mind touchzwiz (the way it is now).
I'm wondering if it interesting to import the s7 active to Europe or not. As far as my research goes, this is what i found out:
at&t has an unlock service via their website
íll have to pay import duty and VAT (is this also the case if I purchase a "used" phone?)
at&t's s7 active supports all bands, so no problem there
at&t has some bloatware which shouldn't be to much of a problem to remove
updates will suck big time, unless we get root and we update the rom ourselves.
If anyone has info about Samsung introducing the s7 active to Europe, please let me know.
Wondering this myself
Yes it will work. Relatives just went to Europe with 3 S7 Actives we got att to unlock as they were bought outright. Work fine on Wind and Cosmote carriers, and will be sold to friends before they return.
Package Disabler Pro works to disable samsung and att updates and bloatware without root.
Those 3 Actives will pay for mine; sometimes carrier exclusivity is a great thing.
Wondering about the import duty and VAT if I import a used phone.
Anybody know?
There's plenty of post on what to disable manually so no need to pay for an app as it does the same thing. If it's convenience you want then the app will help but there's plenty of post for all provider variants of Samsung phones on xda and reddit.
Import duty and taxes will always have to be paid. If you buy second hand make sure a proof of purchase is included otherwise they will charge the tax of a new phone. You can get a friend to take one home with him/her and they will not pay.
I've bought the S7 Active this week in Switzerland. The phone was unlocked already. Inserted the SIM card from my local provider Swisscom and it works perfect.
Only what I do miss: no BT SAP support.
Hiow did you manage that? Where/who did you buy it from?

No option to do software update with s7 active.
Hi anyone know how to get ota updates on the s7 active in the UK?
You don't. Updates need to be flashed from the sd card or with a computer via odin.
Hello
I've about the same questions for an use in France : how difficult is it, once received (supposively an ATT one unlocked), to update up to last android version oreo and is there a loss of functionnalities if not used in USA..?
Thanks in advance
Julien
I use it regulate in Italy (un-lock of course) Oreo 8.0 G891AUCS4CRG3, I'm looking for a way to improve reception, perhaps replacing the modem software with another modem software
Hello
Thanks @Matad1974 for your reply, so it's possible to use it in Europe without too much difficulties and loss of functions..? Which method did you used (OTA/KiES/Odin) ?
About reception isn't it because there are bands missing..? I've read somewhere using code #*#*4636*#*# you can choose bands, have you try ?
Thanks in advance
Julien
Hello, I bought it directly from the United States already unlocked, it works well, but the reception is a bit poor sometimes, where before with the same card took good, and when I talk to someone my voice sometimes is not very understandable .. because of this maybe changing the modem maybe it gets better.
With this code #*#*4636*#*# it does not do anything to me
I took a ride on the internet and I found this code, I try various settings code *#2263#
I can recommend it for european users as well. You lose some of the newest features I think, like Wifi calling.
Updating is pretty simple but a little inconvenient since the update does wipe all your data. There is a thread in this forum that can help you.
Also you should only buy from a thrustworthy seller, but that's just common sense.
(Changing bands can also be done with an app, for example "Network Switch")

Samsung pay in Canada

Does anyone have Samsung pay working on there A70 in Canada? I am on the bell network and it keeps coming up that my device is not compatible in the galaxy store?
Same here
Same as I'm seeing as Samsung Pay, GPay and others won't work. I am on Freedom Mobile and Rogers (personal and work sims). I can't even install Samsung Pay, GPay installs but just does not work.
I did get RBC Wallet to work, so if your bank has their own app then that might be the method to get NFC payments working.

It's Ironic...
S-Pay is one of the reasons I purchased the A70..
SM-A705MN VERSIONS OUT OF LATIN AMERICA *DO HAVE THE CORRECT RADIO BANDS FOR 4G LTE IN THE UNITED STATES* 1,2,4,5,8,12,66..
BUT THIS VERSION *** WILL NOT*** WORK WITH SAMSUNG PAY
As it is "Out Of Region"... In The United States.. No Matter What You Do.
OP,
I thought I would just piggyback off your thread instead of starting a new one.... hope that's ok..
Sorry you are having the same trouble in Canada.. I am still in my "Honeymoon Period" and can return my unit.. I'm in the middle of assessing whether it's viable to keep my unit based on where I shop...
Samsung Pay works EVERYWHERE here in the U.S.. So I need to really assess whether Google Pay / Walmart Pay cover enough of the merchants I frequent the most or just move over to a Country Specific Galaxy device.. :fingers-crossed:
It's Almost 2020....
Tap-And-Go is the way to go for this era...
Safer... Faster... Better IMO..

Samsung pay was one of the factors to me for upgrading to the A70. I was thinking of flashing the Canadian software for the A705W via Odin but I am pretty sure that won't help.

Please Fill In Some Blanks For Me If You Don't Mind..
So.. you are in Canada, and they have a version of the A70 ( The A705W you mentioned ) that is native to that region and it comes with Samsung Pay already installed?
If that's the case.. may I ask, are you a transplant to that region? why did you not buy a SM-A705W from the start?
I may be *100% Wrong*.... but after my MANY conversations with Samsung Pay Tech Support they said there was no way around it.. that, there are enough Red Flags that a device knows its not in it's intended region and will not allow you to setup Samsung Pay in a different region than where the device was meant to be sold.
S-Pay would not even show up in the Playstore.. Google's or Samsung's for me. I sideloaded it.. older versions.. older framework.. Nada.... Nothing.
But I No Longer Care..
I went out today and tried Google Pay for the 1st time...
YES!!!! :highfive:
"EVERYPLACE " I shop.. Google Pay works! Even the Gas Pumps.. :good:
So that confirms for me that I'm keeping the A70... Now, Stereo Speakers are the only thing I feel is missing but Bluetooth earbuds and some 3.5mm stereo computer speakers in the garage really negate that final complaint.. So, I'm good with what the A70 brings to the table.. Battery and Screen are simply incredible for me.. Fingerprint Recognition is a non-issue on my unit.. as are Ghost Touches.. Face unlock is INSTANTANEOUS .
Final Question.. It's been so long since I've used Odin.. ( not since 2016 when I murdered my Note 4..) I can't remember... can you flash one software version over another without Root Access? if you can, then what you propose is most certainly worth a try.
But if you need Root Access to switch software versions.. you know you will trip Knox... and you will FOREVER loose the ability to use Samsung Pay..
I hope all works out for you!
Please comeback to this thread and keep us updated! :good:

Ok very valid points here. I did not buy the Canadian Variant as the A705W is $699 CND from the carriers here in Canada. I bought my 705MN unlocked from Amazon for $429 CND.
I have not used ODIN or rooted a phone since my S7 edge. I have yet to confirm if Samsung pay works on the Canadian variant or not. I asked a bell salesman and I got 2 different answers one yes and one no lol.
You are 100% correct that if Knox is tripped even flashing back to stock won't bring Samsung pay back (learned the hard way on my S7 edge).
I am loving the A70 as it is a nice upgrade in my opinion from my S7 edge. Only 3 down falls I have with the phone. Two are the same as you...No Samsung pay...no stereo speakers and no IP rating...other than that I love this device.
Excellent Price You Scored!

I'd Say You Saved A Couple Of Pennies vs Going For The "W" Variant..
Hopefully.. going *Price vs Satisfaction* does not leave you with any remorse.
Honestly.. I know nothing of Canada.. Is there no way Google Pay is a Go up that way?
That's the ONLY thing that swayed the tide as far as me keeping this device.
I don't care about root anymore and it appears between Samsung's Lock on SD SoC's and Developers skipping this device at it's price point..Custom anything may be a No-Go.
So, with the A70's features and Good Lock and (for me) Superb Battery Life.. Widevine L1 and not forgettting G-Pay :good: I'm a happy camper.
At Least.. Until Black Friday / Cyber Monday...

Samsung pay does work here in Canada on all samsung flasgships from S7 up. Unfortunately not on the A70 I guess. I am going to look into Gpay as I hate carrying both a wallet and cell phone all the time lol... phone prices here in Canada are just ridiculous. A new S10+ is $1499 ( from carriers). I am hoping to get a good solid year out of this phone then I may just bite the bullet and go for a Note 10 or Note 11 by that time.
It does now
Samsung a70s Samsung pay is now available in the galaxy store.... It's not available in the Google Play as of yet.

SM-A705W
I have a Canadian A70 and I use Samsung Pay. You have to sideload the app though. Get it from apkmirror, along with Samsung Pay Framework so it's all up to date.
While you're at it, get Samsung Internet Browser from there as well. I honestly don't know why Samsung region locks so many of their apps or doesn't update the ones that are already in the device.

Samsung is particularly picky in allowing which of its phones access to Samsung Pay. If your phone isn't intended to be sold in your region(eg you're in Canada but using a Latin American A705MN model), then you won't be able to use Samsung Pay. Only if you had the Canadian specific A705W model would you then be allowed access to Samsung Pay.
I know it's very weird and anti consumer decision but Samsung does this to make the local wireless providers happy.
btw; which model do you have and what's your home country?

Hi
I have a SM-965O (Snapdragon, Latin America) that is going to be use in Europe (Spain) , I know frequency bands should no be a problem BUT my question is regard Samsung PAY and Android Pay
Samsung Pay i think it needs to have the same country CSC as the SIM in this case it will not be possible as there is no firmware i can flash for this phone with a European CSC what about Google pay? can it be used with a different CSC than the SIM?
Thanks for you comments

If you unlock your bootloader, Samsung pay is gone. Knox is tripped and renders Samsung pay useless. But Android pay should work regardless as long as you have magisk and use magiskhide.

Hi Mate
Thanks for the reply , the bootloader I think is unlocked , but anyhow i was not planning to unlock it , the phone is not rooted so knox is intact.
The S9+( latin American version) is going to be use in Europe , before that happens i want to see what my option are with Samsung and Android pay are.
I know Samsung pay is very picky it need to match Country CSC with SIM CSC , that option to me is off the table as there is no european firmware for this phone , not sure about android pay , is that picky too?
I do not want to root the phone at the moment..... so just checking with you guys , any advice is welcome.

the thing that bugs me about their issue with root is that im absolutely certain that there is a way to allow root to certain parts of the OS and like super super SUPERSU for the core stuff. So if they had an alternative routing method for the sensitive stuff like SPay and SHealth and secure folder and allow for the customization that most root users want in the first place

I agree with you , there are parts of the OS that should be restricted or protected from any manipulation , but not to the extreme to make you feel like an outlaw and make you an outcast from your own device if you want to "change it" or customize it
They are taking all the fun away from android ( those very first years) , open source not quite any more, I do not like apples philosophy and that was one of the main reason why i use android..... now days is hard to tell the difference

Samsung pay for Note 10+ not working

Hi all, purchased a Note 10+ for my wife to replace her Note 8. In short, Samsung pay used to work but when setting up everything for the Note 10+, its the only app i cant get working for her.
Says the phone doesnt support it. We are Aust based and i purchased from a Au seller. The website indicates its a AU/NZ model (SM-N975F).
I can get Google pay to work but not sure why i cant get Samsung pay to work.
Ive read about it begin region locked etc but as mentioned, the seller website indicated its a AU model. Also read that factory resetting may work but it was a new phone that i only just setup/restored data etc so dont really want to do all that again if theres no guarantee thats even a plausible answer.
I also read that when setting up the new phone, the simcard needed to be inserted from the very beginning which i did not do. I restored data via samsung switch first before transferring the sim/sd cards.
When i attempted to install an older Samsung pay apk, it goes 1 step further with the intro screens but then says connection issue, try again later.
I did search XDA but could not find any other threads that could help.
Anyone else in the same position with a simple fix that worked, thanks.

I have a similar issue I have a N975W (Canadian) in the UK & can't seem to get SPay for my region, I'm stuck with the Canadian APK/firmware, with yous being a N975F seems it's region locked to Europe but with a Austrian CSC maybe?
In a nutshell until Samsung remove the region restriction for SPay (which they probably will never do) you're out of luck, sorry.

Go to settings, about phone, software information.
Scroll down to where is says Service Provider.
What does it show?
Should be 1 of the following for an Australian model.
XSA/XSA/XSA
OPS/OPS/OPS
TEL/TEL/TEL
VAU/VAU/VAU
If it shows something else, that could be part of the issue.
The SM-N975F / DS are sold in a number of countries, with different csc codes.
The CSC I listed are for Australia, Samsung, Optus, Telstra & Voda.

Cheers for the info. I just checked the phone and for Service provider it says the following:
SAOMC_SM-N975F_OXM_VNZ_QQ_0006
RF8MBOXOBCM
VNZ/VNZ/VNZ
It was purchased from Dicksmith online and they categorically advise its an Au/Nz model but appears not???

VNZ is New Zealand
It's a New Zealand model, specifically it appears to be a Voda NZ model.
Either way, this is possibly why you can't use Samsung Pay.
Unfortunately, I'm not aware of a way around it.
Perhaps you can get it refunded since it doesn't fully work here?

Cheers, appreciate the info. Ill have to clarify with the seller then on how they can promote it as an AU/NZ model when it appears it has to be either one or the other. If i had an AU model the CSC as you guys have pointed out would be right and i would not have issues with region based apps like Samsung pay.

If it is Exynos you can try change CSC to your region and it should work.

I followed all the directions I can find. Flash a different firmware. I tried New Zealand and still the CSC is MID (Iaq) which is what it was when i got it from Amazon. Its a 975f/ds which I bought specifically to be able to root it but this whole CSC thing is new to me since I haven't been in the rooting scene for 3 years which is when i gave up my beloved note 4 (best Samsung phone ever made by the way). Just trying to get samsung pay working so i can get it working on my samsung watch then i can flash all the awesome roms for my phone... any advice sure would be welcomed.

So I am going to try to flash stock firmware for XSA and see If I cannot get Samsung Pay to work. Not that I will need it really since I'm going to root anyway but its fun. If I get it working, I'll report back.
I flashed the AUS Firmware and Samsung pay seems to work BUT... Grrr. It asks me to sign into my Samsung account. Done. Then it asks how to verify authentication it has a grayed out button to use fingerprint and a button to use pin, and a little spinning blue circle in the center of the screen and that is where it stays. Like its loading something but never loads. The use fingerprint button never lights up, and the use pin button isn't clickable. So close... Any ideas?

Galaxy S20+ 5G (SM-G986B) double sim - Help 5G connectivity issue and wrong CSC

Hi guys! I hope this thread has not been answered already but I've looked on this forum and on the web and couldn't find anything.
Basically I bought this S20+ 5G online and when trying to use samsung pay I discovered it comes from the UAE. It didn't bother me too much, I had some compatibility issues with my cards but I didn't plan to use the samsung pay in any case.
However, when I came back to Italy (as I was in France when I bought the phone) I was excited to try vodafone's 5G network in Rome (already checked with them and I'm abilitated to 5G) but my phone never connected to 5G network. I even tried with a friend's 5G iphone (always with vodafone) and while his phone connected mine didn't.
So, I've looked around for some possible reasons and my conclusion was that the issue came from having the wrong CSC codes, which are XSG/ITV,XEF/XSG. ITV and XEF make sense, as I have an italian and a french sim card, but I can't manage to remove the XSG; I tried to flash the italian ITV firmware (from sammobile) through Odin but nothing changed (I must say I did it using the Home_CSC, so that may be the issue).
So, long-story short my doubts are the following:
- Do you guys agree that the issue wuth the 5G connectivity may come from the XSG part of the country codes? Or should I look elswhere?
- If I flash the italian firmware cleaning also the data on the phone, do you think it will work? Will it invalidate the warranty and knox (as I read that the knox services are somewhat delicate if the phone is modified). I mean the samsung services are useful and I wouldn't want to screw too much with them.
- Should I just surrender to having a 5G phone without being able to connect to 5G?
Thank you so much for the help! I'm really losing my mind on this ahahah

So you failed to research Samsung models and attributes, that's on you. Samsung is also responsible or should I say irresponsible? They produce way too many models in addition to multiple firmwares from all the various service providers. Not only that Samsung has made it much more challenging in resolving compatibility issues with proprietary firmware and multiple SoC's. It's actually quite simple, if you want full functionality and avoid alot of headaches buy your service provider's device. You may sacrifice in some aspects but you'll have a smartphone which functions the manner it was designed to operate.
