MCU feature listing - MTCD Android Head Units General

I’m looking to update my MCU on my PX6 to try and correct some button mapping errors.
Does anyone know if there is a feature listing for the various MCU types so I can select the right one?

There isn't one. Curious to know why you think this would resolve button mapping "errors", and what does errors mean.

Errors means buttons that are mapped to incorrect functions. In my case the wrong way (I.e. up = down, down = up, etc.) due to my car being right hand drive.
My seller has advised that this may be rectified in a future MCU update (whenever that might be). I wanted to see what other MCU’s might have what I’m looking for.

So you've attempted defining the hardware buttons in factory settings and the buttons simply don't assign corectly - do I understand right? Thats a first...

The buttons do assign correctly, but the problem is if I reassign any buttons, it wipes all the factory set button assignments completely.
You would think this is wouldn’t be a problem, as I can reassign all the buttons.... however there appears to be a limit of 23 buttons that can assigned via the Wheelkey study tool. Unfortunately my Peugeot has more than 23 buttons to set.

Start bar on keyboard

hi guys , i know this might seem a strange question but like most my stylus is loose in the holder and i sometimes need to use the keyboard to do most things on the unit and i cant find anywhere that activates the start option on the screen. I have done it by accident once but nothing since. i have checked the manual and it mentions it no where all operations seem to be around the stylus?
does anyone know what key combination it is ?
I have a 02 phone and unlike tmobile which has a one of the 4 buttons on front setup to do this as one of the defaults.
cheers in advance
It should be ctrl+escape on a full keyboard. It might also be enabled by the windows or context menu keys, not sure what your keyboard looks like.
You can use my VJKeypress to get this as well. I think it's keycode 91, not sure, check my website.

Im talking about the blue angel, xda 2s keyboard thanks you for reply im not talking normal pc keyboard it does not have ctrl esc or alt on 02 xda 2s keyboard
Sorry! I've never seen a BlueAngel keyboard
V
Why not assign one of the hardware buttons to do this, each one can have a duel function assigned either a tap or hold, according to the phone, in reality this doesn't work (unless anyone knows different - latest O2 ROM - not messed around with), whatever you set for a tap is also carried accross to the hold function, go to settings and locate the power buttons icon select it, then select the button you want (ok for example) then assign the <Start Menu> from the drop down box, press OK, the device might want a soft reset (mine did when I just tried this), when it comes back up hit the assigned button, and use the four way thumb control to navigate through the menus, it saves sliding out the keyboard and it becoming loose - Mike
cheers for this when i tried to reassign buttons before like the camera it wouldnt let me change them ..i hate the camera button getting accidently caught same as the record one as well.
cheers for the advance will do that would just like to know for my own peace of mind as well how to use the keyboard to do it, it should be possible.

Does anyone actually USE the Windows 'Start' hardware button?

Just curious.
IMO I think it's worthless and redundant. Since I can already tap 'Start' on the touch screen, why do we need a button that accomplishes the same thing? Seems like Windows only added it to remind people that they're using a Windows product They should have used this button for something useful.
Actually, I'm not very fond of any of the buttons on the front since the functionality is redundant. Now if only there was a D-Pad.....
It is my understanding that a hardware start button is a requirement for WM7. This is yet another sign that our phones may be capable of an upgrade to 7.
In answer to the question, no I do not use it!

I noticed on this keyboard remapper that the button is labeled as 'Home'. Regardless of the name, but function appears to be the same.

Negative. On the Tmo TP2, the Home button takes you to the Home tab. It doesn't bring the Start Menu up at all.
I find the hardware key more convenient to access quickly than the upper corner of the screen - probably because of the long reach with my thumb when operating one-handed.
In Spb Mobile Shell, there's a setting to replace the function of the software Start button in the top corner so that it displays Shell's program launcher instead of the Windows Mobile programs.
That's great, but this setting doesn't seem to have any effect on the hardware button. Any thoughts?
Works great to launch QuickLauncher.

Interesting. I guess the TMo version is more useful then the Sprint version.
I try to use the hardware button as it is more convenient for me, but I am so use to hitting the start button on the top of the screen that I find my self doing that more than pressing the actual hardware key. Still trying to untrain myself.
I like that it is there regardless so it doesn't bother me.
As kd8fre said, I think this is there for future upgrades. Probably just getting the phone set up and ready. Because I haven't seen this button for A long time on an HTC device (Diamond, TP, HD...)

Officially, not a hope in hell. WM7 devices must have a capacitive screen and a hardware compass, and the TP2 has neither. Many WM6.1 devices can be upgraded to 6.5; virtually none will officially get 7. There may be some unofficial hacks, of course.

Power Button Anomaly

So, I've purchased a replacement LCD top portion for a sprint TP2, and everything works fine after installing it, except the new power button only works when powering the phone on initially (when it's in a completely offline state), but after that it doesn't work to shut the phone off, or wake up from standby (phone on, screen off). You must open the keyboard to get the screen back on, and either remove the battery or use some program (I've installed a CAB for this already) to shut down from the OS...
Does anybody know why this might be occurring? Another weird thing is that when the phone is not even charging, but has a battery in it (and is not powered on), it shows an orange light that would suggest it is actually charging. I've already contacted the seller of the replacement LCD (which is basically the whole top portion that includes the LCD, power button, end call buttons, etc. (the part that "slides up")...they're willing to send a replacement, but I'm wondering if this is something I can actually easily fix myself?
Thanks in advance!
Ok, if there's no way to fix this, does anybody know of how I might be able to remap another button as the power button?
Any help would be appreciated.

If you are using the NRG ROM, there is a command in the Windows directory called PowerOffWarning.exe. It executes the slide to shutdown program. You can map that to a button using the Settings / Buttons icon.

The problem is if the device goes to sleep I can't wake it back up unless I slide open the keyboard.
Is there a way to map another button to wake up the screen again also?

You can change the lock behavior such that it will answer one of the buttons. It is in the Settings / System / Key Lock icon. However that means that while it is in your pocket or case, the phone may (and probably will) come unlocked and perform some function or another.
Under Settings --> System, I don't have a key lock icon. I'm using the default Sprint ROM. Is it possible that this ROM doesn't have that icon?

Drat, I'm using NRG. However I recall that the setting is also present elsewhere in WM 6, but I'm sorry, I can't remember where. It may be in with the power application in Settings / System.
I do have WinMo 6.5, but no real option for this unfortunately..

Taking the stylus out might be another option for switching on the screen, although it's probably more convenient to slide the keyboard open given the choice!
Anyway I did a search and found this:

Hope that helps.

Ah, I forgot that removing the stylus turns the device on also. Thanks!
It seems that link is for remapping keys on the qwerty slider, but what about keys on the actual device?

I believe it works with any key on the device.
So, what is it ? It's a patched keyboard driver with configurator application for keys setup. Any key (yeah, i mean ANY, including Home and Back keys) can be reassigned to perform desired actions.

Soft keys not working anymore

Hello there!
Well, I have encountered a new issue with on my recently bought ZenFone 2. The problem seems to have apperead out of a sudden. My touch soft keys have stopped working (partially) - HOME, RECENT, BACK
What I mean by partially, is that their default action isn't working anymore & no haptic feedback is received. Basically, I cannot use them.
However, the device takes their actions...as part of the screen touchable area. Please check the video bellow for more information:
(I have also used Glove Mode ON...for a better response - yo ucan see in the video that for once...the long-press RECENT soft key works correctly)
https://www.dropbox.com/s/2bgf348xixo1t8k/MOV01746_x264.mp4?dl=0
What I have already tried:
- Reboot the phone
- Power off the device
- Boot in safe mode
- Let the battery drain
- Reset from factory
- Wipe data/factory reset & cache deletion (via Recovery Menu)
- flash official ROM via ADB Sideload
- flash ROM via fastboot (along with the fastboot image, boot image and recovery image - besides the system image)
The issue's still there so any help will be welcomed!
Thank you!

I'm pretty new to this stuff myself..and i might be wrong..but seems like a touch calibration issue?.. Any one with more knowledge knows if there's a way to calibrate the touch screen?
You can download button savior from the playstore as an alternative for now that's my best suggestion for now ---> Button Savior (Root)

Hello there and thanks for the answer. Yes I've downloaded something similar for the soft keys. Not sure if it's a calibration issue, but I may check it. I think it's a hardware issue and contacted the ASUS support. As far as I can see...the capacitive foil covers both the display and the soft keys area. In my opinion, the flex cable underneath the soft keys is broken/damaged.

You're right about the capacitive foil going under the soft key area. If I double tap to wake between two keys, it will wake up.

I eventually replaced the whole screen. Maybe it was damaged in the first place. The authorized local service wasn't able to only change the flex cable. I disabled double tap. My phone used to unlock by itself in the pocket and enter get into apps. I am looking for an unlocking method alternative, now.

Asus should add LG's KnockCode feature, or some version of it.

Go to Settings -> Factory settings (password 126)
Open the "Key Study" tab
Tap "touch key study"
The screen will turn black with a "+1" on top right and "+2" label on bottom right
First tap on the "+1" then on "+2" with your finger, this is calibrating the screen; if you mess up here your screen touch coordinates will be out of sync with your screen. If you manage to mess up here it's easiest to connect a USB mouse and re-enter the key study menu.
On the next screen tap any of the touch buttons, you're then asked to assign functions to it, pretty much the same as for steering wheel control key study
Hit "Save and Exit" when done
Note: You can assign long- and short press actions to the soft-touch buttons this way. As you got a KLD unit (likely the same apex unit for my Subaru as for yours which is a KLD MTCD unit) you can also map one of the buttons to "screen off" which just turns off the screen backlight. Very handy during night driving. Look for the screen icon with an 'x' inside. I personally assigned screen-off to the power button and shutdown to the power button long press. Also I assigned mute to the back-button long-press action.
Btw. you can upgrade the MCU to latest KLD found here. I am running MTCE KLD 2.73 currently without issues. Version 2.78 runs on my KLD test unit here without issues too. Make sure to export the MCU settings in factory settings before performing MCU upgrade and/or note down all your values (make screenshots).
You are a life saver thank you so much.

Have the same issue on my Xtron TB706PL, unable to use the front buttons. When I go to Key Study, I press the buttons but nothing happens. Have tried resetting key study and still nothing is working. Neither of all 4 buttons are working, have factory reset and tried reverting to factory MTCD-GS-2.56, still no go. Am not using the steering wheel function control either. Any ideas?

I have the same unit as you, and the same problem. Did you ever solve it? @Aetheric
Any update on that one?
Mine not working. I have PX5 MTCE GS version.
What problem may be?
Key studies not work.
Left side buttons stopped working.. PX5 MTCD GS
Can't associate them from the factory settings!!
Associating works only with the right side..
I tried to update the mcu.img and the dmcu.cfg files ..
I tried another ROM..
With no success..
The solution is so simple..
If the unit is not learning the buttons in the left side..
It's simply because the soldering points internally are broken.. just unscrew the LCD panel and you will find that the right side keys soldering is totally far away from the contacts..
Notice that its very difficult to do the job without the heating gun.. and you should verify that the lower lines are still intact.. other wise you need jumpers from the right side .. I mean from the buttons in the right side...
I make some pictures but I don't find a way to attach them here... which I will do later some how..
By the way.. the broken contacts are studied from the factory to be broken from the heat and from the spring down the board pushing it up.. to cause that problem..
Also .. my unit.. needs the volume up down button to get to recovery mode... so it will make it more difficult for you to reach the recovery mode since the volume button is not available... except if you use the (hal9k) sd bootable card... it's your only chance to reach the recovery mode...
I took the risk to transform my unit to a brick.. trying software updates.. while it was only a hardware problem.
Don't waste time .. if one side is not learning..
Don't miss with the software.. it's not the mcu version..
It's the HARDWARE..
Don't forget to reset panel keys from the factory settings.. or you can use the learn feature if you don't want the standard functionality.
If you felt this info helpful.. please let me know..

Suggest removing all power from unit for 10 mins. Import is by recovery menu - MCU, but try power off first.
I have more complex problem and have solve it by replacing MCU (STM32)
I dont think you will be this same unlucky SO in settings is flash mcu with cfg file so do it.

Hi, I think I have the same problem with you. I flashed a ''newer'' MCU than the one I had on my HU and after that the keys stopped working.
I found 5-6 other MCU files and tried them all but it did not fix the problem.
The thing is that when I try to re-program the keys from settings it does not seem to save the process...
Can you please send me the mcu with cfg file that you used and fixed it?
Thanks

Hello All who's struggled with being a Seicane H2 Android Radio......
Not sure if you guys figured this out yet
But it's for the H2 headunit version.
I have it in my WRX!
Just as one user stated after you do your touch panel recalibration for the touch screen (pressing +1 and +2), you'll get this screen:
Press OK!!!
Now stop, breathe and pay attention to your next screen: which should look similar to this:
Touch key Study for the radio Panel buttons start HERE!!! Do not press the steering wheel keys, but instead start pressing your front panel keys:
After setting the Power, Reset, Home, volume +\- (or long press secondary if you have a certain preference), then your screen should come to be filled with your selections like so:
Then from here you must hit save and THEN CONFIRM THE CHANGES ON THE NEXT SCREEN when it asks you!
Now your panel buttons should function as they should! I know it's a late post to and old thread but I'm sure there are some out there that are still searching for solutions and or new android head unit users such as myself that could use detailed help!
Sincerely,
StiRan83

*****Solved***** for me.
Went into the factory settings enter password
Mine is 1234 others maybe 8888
and use the “knob panel button learning” even though my unit has buttons and not knobs. Party control learning is for the steering wheel buttons on this unit.
Of course it all started when I was messing with the steering wheel controls trying to get those to work and the panel buttons did not work anymore no matter how many times you press.
So you do not need to do any configurations resets as this literally took moments and you also can configure short and long press of the same button to end up with eight functions as opposed to only four.
I know this is a late reply but I thought it’s good that it’s out in the forum to help others if you have the same/similar head unit
