Installation on Moto G8 Power, Sofiar RETEU, XT2041-3 - Moto G Power Guides, News, & Discussion

I just bought this phone and installed LineageOS 17.1.
Dual SIM / 64GB / 4GB version
I pretty much followed these instructions: https://asineth.ml/post/android-rav/
One issue I ran into was that the "OEM unlock" option in the UI was disabled (greyed out) because you need to be online for that. After connecting to Wifi i was able to continue.
Another issue: I couldnt execute `fastboot reboot fastboot` because my adb/fastboot binaries were to old. I followed https://wiki.lineageos.org/adb_fastboot_guide.html to get the latest versions.
I do experience some small bugs that I also had with 17.1. on my previous phone (Moto G7 Plus)
- cellular data stops working for some reason, turning mobile data off and on again fixes the problem until it occurs again.
- sometimes i cannot click "Read" on text notifications in the notification area.
- the signal cellular bar appears with a little x in the bottom right corner and I dont know what the x is supposed to indicate.
feel free to ask for help if you have the same phone and get stuck in the process.
cheers

sadly more bugs
- if I turn off wifi hotspot the phone freezes and reboots
- sometimes the phone swallows text messages that are sent to me

[Q] First timer install issues

I've tried several times to install android on my AT&T tilt with varying success. I have gotten a few mods to run now but they all seem to have the same problems so I think I'm either missing a step somewhere or not setting things up correctly. I can navigate within Android but can't use the phone functions. It shows a signal on the meter but seems to hand on dialing and when I try to hand up stays on the "hanging up" screen and the phone icon stays in the upper left corner of the screen. Also it hangs when I try to import contacts from SIM card when trying to access card.
Installed to SD card
radio version 1.65.21.18
builds - various but latest is VaniljEclair_RLS10b
info from within Android
network - Cingular
signal strength -101dBm 6asu
mobile network type UMTS
service state in service
mobile network state connecting
kernel version 2.6.25-01130-g99a3b07-dirty
mod version cyanogenmod-5.0.8-d5-ve-rls10b
build number epe54b
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I'm using the same build on TyTN II, and I have no issues with it. I have the OS installed to NAND however.
Are you sure that you are using the latest kernel??
I had tried installing that version after others had the phone issue since it included all files in one zip.
I finally removed the battery and after a reboot everything seems to be working now. Guess I should have done that instead of just a reset...

[Q] Shell asks for root. Linux acts strange when connected to phone. Is it infected?

After I did some things on my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III, "shell" was asking for root. If I set it to deny, it will be unusuable and I have to resort to restoring a backup.
Also, it has been making my linux OS behave quite strange while connected:
- If I pulg it in before I get past Grub, I login once, the screen flashes and goes back to the login screen. If I shutdown, it shows some jumbled characters at the end of the booting section (of what I can see), and continues with the shutdown (showing valid shutdown messages)
- I have witnessed (only once) that dropdown menus were "glitching" or expanding/collapsing a little when it was already fully expanded.
I assume both my computer and my phone are infected with something as my phone randomly stops working with data that I must toggle Airplane Mode on and off to fix (moving to another location in the city does nothing to fix it). When togging it on, it takes several seconds to activate (some seconds, data icon goes away, some seconds, network icon replaced with airplane icon).
Computer:
Lenovo ThinkPad T61
Dual boot:
- Xubuntu 12.04 LTS (LTS = Long Term Support; official Ubuntu variant; currently set up to hide splash screen and show boot/shutdown progress/messages)
- Windows XP Professional (installed first)
Phone:
Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III
Already gave up on CyanogenMod as it was not giving (or giving weaker) signal in areas where stock would have a signal.
After some time, I installed TWRP (spell check?) recovery and tried to install a certain ROM which failed to install so I wiped and restored to the backup I made after installing TWRP. After this is when I noticed the issues.

[Q] Mobile ID problem [sPIN]

Hello,
I have special SIM card issued by my operator which enables mobile ID use (with sPIN authentication) for connecting to bank or e-government. Works like this:
1. The user clicks the "Log in with mobile ID" option on a supported website
2. The phone displays a screen indicating that a connection is being made
3. The user is prompted to enter a mobile ID sPIN code into the phone
4. The screen on the phone disappears and the website is automatically reloaded with a logged in screen
It worked fine with stock firmware, but after I've rooted my HOX I'm not getting sPIN request screen anymore (step 3).
Have tried several custom AOSP or AOKP ROMs without luck, but found some of them partly working.
One I'm using right now is [ROM][4.2.2] Slim Bean - Endeavoru [STABLE][Build 7]. Mobile ID worked for first days after flashing it but later I was only able to use it for a few random times (after restarts). Then it works till next restart...
I was first thinking its an issue of incompatible apps I've installed or system settings I've mixed up, but somehow it works sometimes after restart (with very low success rate though). Also tried to restart into safe mode - it worked for the first time, but no luck for the next ~20 safe mode restarts after that.
I've also found hints it could be stk (SIM Application Toolkit) related problem. I can see SIM toolkit in my app list, though it doesnt' show up on running processes on developer tools.
If you're still reading this and have any ideas, please make some comments, maybe it would help me to get back on the right track, thanks!

Debricked, P2 sees SIM, asks for PIN, but does not register on network, SIM disabled?

So... I stared into the abyss, but I came back from the brink - unlocked bootloader, and the modem/calibration stuff got wiped during what should have been a routine TWRP flash from fastboot, and left me with no radios whatsoever. After flashing S048, and applying all the known OTAs up till S251, I got my wifi & bluetooth radios back, but it didn't seem to recognise my SIM (tried both slots).
After trying for almost a week, I also finally got the diagnostics mode going and was able to put a working QCN backup in place (thank you XDA and uploader).
So I flashed the LineageOS 15.1 20180413, and lo and behold, it sees the SIM and asks for a PIN to unlock it. So far, so good. Then (first time) Android says 'switching to mobile data, might take a while' but nothing really happens (I am on wireless; if I turn off wifi that doesn't make any difference though).
Under 'Network', 'Automatically select network' is enabled but 'Network' (right below) is greyed out. When I untick 'Automatically select network', it says 'Error while searching for networks'. When I re-tick it again, it says 'Registered on network', although nothing really happens.
Under SIM cards, it says slot 1 is populated, but says 'Mobile Vikings is disabled' (Mobile Vikings being my provider). The button to enable it is greyed out. Switching to airplane mode doesn't force anything either.
I've had a logcat instance open when toggling 'Automatically select network', but nothing related seems to show up. Any hints on what I could try/check? Or is this a coaster?
I believe that once you erase the modem stuff you'll always have serious problems restoring it. It seems like most people have to send the device in for service.
I've still no solution for an old P2 of mine and in that case I even had a TWRP backup.
Lenovo should really allow for us to flash stock images . An unlocked bootloader with LESS privileges makes no sense.
Wipe everything in twrp & flash twrp full backup which included efs & modem shared on our p2 forum. then flash Fastboot s48 only systemchuncks 0-14, boot & recovery then do 4-5 OTAs updates till latest one s251, you'll get you mobile network & calls back.
@eried1 Yeah looks like it
@amansehdav I have turned the P2 subforum upside down and I already tried this - restore a working S233 TWRP backup, flash S048 through fastboot, and upgrade with the OTAs till S251. No dice. Wifi and Bluetooth came back with that process, but the stock firmware would not see the SIM.

Razr 5g - 5g netword mode setting ?

Hello,
I just received my Razr 5g and I have a question about 5g setting. I cannot choose 5G in the network mode setting, see attached picture, only 2G, 3G and 4G, is it normal ?? someone have 5G option available ?
Best regards
US Unlocked
Ok thank you !
NIco
Just got my Razr 5G
So I popped in my nano_sim card and booted up the phone. As it went through most of it's installation and download files, I went into the settings window and I have a similar window in that it has the option that says just "prefer 5G network" all on it's own.
By the way, I am in Canada on the Rogers network living in a 5G covered zone.
Cheers,
Vodafone UK with the expected network options of 5,4,3,2G / 4,3,2G / 3,2G / 3G / 2G
You can read my post here:

Lenovo/Motorola Rescue and Smart Assistant (RSA) saved my Razer 5G and upgraded it to Android 11 with added 5G option in network settings. I had only up to "prefer 4G" option under Android 10 latest update with february 2021 security patch. And it wouldn't see any Android 11 OTA update.
If you have the same issue, hit the link below and download the "Rescue and Smart Assistant" listed in the Help topics (and the USB drivers if not already installed). Then start the program, create and/or log in with your Lenovo account. You can now connect your Razr to your PC, with your USB cable and USB Debugging enabled in developers options (and probably also OEM unlock). Hit many times in the row the "Build number" under "About your phone" in the settings to activate developers options.
It should then ask you on the phone if you want to connect to this Windows PC bla-bla, click on always and accept.
You should now see Rescue and Smart Assistant connecting to your phone and asking you to grant some accesses on your phone. When you did so, the program will show your Razer's informations under "My Device" or "Rescue".
Under "Rescue", you should be offered the option to rescue it by downloading the corresponding latest firmware. My device wouldn't start beyond fastboot mode or system error message, but it still got recognized in fastboot mode and I could save it this way.

I have a German Razr 5G model XT-2071-4. And I can now confirm it happilly connects to 5G network where it's available. Only problem is that the internal antenna seems to have a weak reception quality, at least in 5G.
Maybe this information was already posted elsewhere in the forums, but I think it's important to have this information instead of staying locked under Android 10.
