I don't see why you couldn't restrict it running in the background, can't think of anything that would be adversely affected by doing so.
To (possibly) help in curbing unnecessary apps from running at all, I'm using this Package Disabler:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pdmdm.dmplay

Thank you for the suggestion. I will look into that app. I don't know if I can disable it completely oh, because it has to run when I Wing the screen open.
@KOLIOSIS what phone are you running?

I've got this phone, the Wing, & a Note20 (both T-Mobile US models, FWIW).
I haven't totally disabled the 2nd display, just restricted background data usage & optimized battery setting enabled.
Haven't actually checked usage, I don't keep track on battery at all after I go through the new phone/initial set up & fine tune background & battery settings one by one, including system apps. It's tedious, but, worth it afterwards.

What do you mean? You mean 'disable' Verizon and other preinstalled bloatware? What battery settings and system app changes do you make?
Right away I always uninstall/disable Facebook, Amazon, NFL, ebay, added games, etc.

It is a nice phone. I'd like to see the pop-up FFC become standard fare on the V series.
Hoping LG reaches out to more app developers to incorporate uses for the 2nd display.

Killing/uninstalling apps to save battery life on the Galaxy Nexus

Hello,
I'd like to go over the running apps on my phone to see what your recommendations would be killing or uninstalling if possible certain apps.
My new phone went through the battery insanely fast compared to my ET4G so I'd like to tweak it with your help.
BIP - is to allow LTE? I currently am not using LTE but I see BIP running.
Bluetooth share - I want BT always on (had it that way on the last 5 phones I've had so I know about battery use on it) But I see it is running as BT share, my BT settings on the phone are -set to only visible to shared devices - is the BT share normal or is there another place I should turn off a BT service as the only thing I use BT is for my headset - no tethering, external keyboards or anything else.
Google services - not sure what that is
Media - I almost never ever play any music or videos - is that necessary?
I have GPS/location services off I believe but I see google maps runing
VZ Backup assistant - I don't think I have any use at all for this
Android live wallpaper - does that drain much?
Don't worry about those. Unless you want to hide them in the app menu, I strongly suggest you leave them all alone. A Nexus with only those preinstalled apps on it will drain less than half of a percent per hour on standby. That's ~8 days of standby time.
The screen on this phone is, by far, the biggest battery drain. Inc comparison to the above number, the screen will kill your battery in 3 hours. Everything else pales in comparison.

Just how it is. You can try signing out of Latitude or fully disabling Maps. In my tests, disabling it doesn't help or hurt battery, but causes issues because you have to re-enable it and update it just to use it again. What a burden, just let it be IMHO.

It actually drains a lot. One of the first things to do to save battery is turn down screen brightness and turn off live wallpapers.

Unless you've got some crazy 3D wallpaper (which would probably run like #### on this phone using the default launcher anyway), they might be 2% of your total drain. Unless you're being super anal, I'd leave it alone unless you prefer a static wallpaper aesthetically.

If I don't use BT for file transfers - is there a way to make sure that doesn't ever run?
I use the camera about once every 3 months however I do browse IMDB at least once a week - so can I leave it off and turn it one when I need it or does IMDB need it for pictures?
Is there a proper way to disable VZ backup?
Thanks - good to know. I didn't really find any wallpapers I liked - is it easy to just set it for a plain black or dark blue background?

I said if you're trying to save battery turn off live wallpapers. Doesn't mean theyre a huge drain but they absolutely do drain more than a static wallpaper. OP is obviously paranoid about power so he shouldn't be using a LWP.

Just find a wallpaper and put it on the phone, then select it from the gallery after long-pressing on the homescreen.
The basic theme here is to just let things run. You're not giving Android enough credit for managing tasks. It does this for you. When a process is just sitting in RAM it's not actually using any power. Its just waiting to be used. You will absolutely kill more battery (and cripple your user experience) trying to manage these things manually then just letting them run. This is why the idea of auto task-killers is completely backwards. Just let Android manage things and stop worrying about it. As above poster said, the screen will easily be 50%+ of your drain over a day of usage. The best thing you can do if you want to lengthen battery is lower screen brightness.... really.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ Battery Saving Tips

A phone even with killer looks and amazing features still needs a descent battery backup to support it all. In past we've seen that a few tricks here and there always tend to increase battery life. Usually that includes disabling a few apps or features. This thread is for specifically targeting such tips & tricks and sharing it all so that S6 Edge+ can live upto its expectations..
1. To start with, lets get to the list of bloatwares that can be safely disabled.
If any of you own the AT&T version, here's a list you can disable:-
AT&T Apps:-
AT&T FamilyMap
AT&T Hot Spots
AT&T Live
AT&T Locker
AT&T Mail
AT&T Mobile Locate
AT&T Mobile Transfer
AT&T Navigator
AT&T Ready2Go
AT&T Smart Wi-Fi
Drive Mode
Caller Name ID
Mobile TV
Plenti
Smart Limits
Yp (Yellow Pages)
Other Apps:-
S Voice
Amazon (I prefer the playstore version for frequent updates)
Amazon Kindle
Device Help
Live Weather (Yahoo)
Lookout
Theme Store
Visual Voicemail
2. Refrain from using any free application that has embedded advertisements. They tend to run threads in background to load adds and thus degrade the app performance and used data (so naturally consume more power too). Either buy add-free version or find an alternate app for same purpose and without adds.
3. Disable notifications from social media/news apps like Facebook, Twitter, Tapatalk, etc. Although, the phone wouldn't be that smart if all the notifications are disabled, however, keep them at bare minimum. Not everybody would be interested in notifications from all the apps, so spend some time analyzing through all the installed apps and their settings to turn off the notifications for the apps you do not need to get notifications for. There are several apps that keep sending notifications and running a thread in background which again checks internet to load the notification content. An example would be games like Candy Crush or Clash Of Clans.
4. Turn off "Send Usage Statistics" or "Help Improve the app performance", "Participate in improvement" etc settings from the app which sends data from your device from time to time which acts as a survey to improve the performance of the app. Although this is a necessary option for a developer, however, if you do not care about your granular contribution towards further development of the app, try deselecting such options while setting up new apps.
5. Refrain from using external Memory Management Apps and RAM Cleaners. They tend to run heavy background services to detect memory usage and kill applications. Trust me, you would be better without them.
6. Try using black wallpaper and lock screen. Also, always select Dark Mode if any app has theme section. This makes the pixels produce less brightness and considerably save more battery.
7. Keep GPS Location off when not using any navigational/location based apps. When the GPS is ON, there are some apps that tend to acquire a GPS Lock even though they can work without it. Keeping GPS Off will not allow such apps to request for GPS Lock. GPS Locking is a battery draining process.
8. You can use certain tools like Greenify, WiFi Automatic, etc. to automatically manage application states or phone wireless to save some additional battery. Use these only if you are lazy like me. Otherwise you can always manually turn on/off wifi/bluetooth/nfc etc etc. Also, there are tools (like Juice Defender) which can enable/disable data connective at a frequent interval which results in really good power conservation without loosing push notification.
With applying most of these settings, I'm getting 6-7 hrs of screen on time very easily even when I've downloaded 1+ GB data and 40 minutes of video chat (hangout). Not to mention the usual gaming and application usage.:cyclops:
I hope that helps. I'll keep adding if I get any (without root).
Reserved for future use!

Please tell me a solution if any one knows:
I open facebook and after some time i close this application by click on list tasks soft key and close it. Immediately when I go into setting > application manager > running apps I still see a facebook process running. Technically i guess this should be gone i guess and hence any idea how to clean these which i guess can improve battery life.
Update: If I have notifications turned on in facebook then yes it can still run some process even after I close it in Apps Tab but I see the same with Samsung Music Player i.e after I close it I still see a thread in "Running" Apps.

These kind of apps do tend to run a background process to check for updates. Closing the app doesn't necessarily mean that the processes will close. And I'm not even sure even if you turn off all the notification services of an app, all the related processes will close for sure, it depends. Also, if you are using apps like facebook etc, do not worry much about the battery life if you have turned off the background data usage and notification services. It will have very minimal impact, almost negligible!

List of Samsung Bloatware that can be safely disabled on the Note 7?

Hey Guys,
I currently have the international (N9300) version of the Note 7. Luckily I don't have any carrier bloatware to worry about.
But I was wondering if anyone has a list? Or could share a screen shot of what SAMSUNG BLOATWARE they have disabled with Package Disabler without having any problems?
My main goal would be to speed up performance / increase batter lift by disabling un-needed stuff from running in the BG. Just dont want to accidentally disable something that will screw up my phone, or get me stuck in a boot loop etc.
Thanks!
Is there any evidence that bloatware (whether from the manufacturer or the carrier) has any noticeable effect on performance? If not, de-bloating seems like a lot of trouble to go to for no real benefit.

I think it made a difference in earlier versions of the Samsung phones. In the past, I would aggressively debloating my phones. With the modern versions, and OS features for shutting down apps that are not in use, including Touchwiz's aggressive RAM management, I don't think debloating has a noticeable effect. I disable any unused apps to get rid of visual clutter, I don't go beyond that. YMMV

Just curious--what visual clutter do you mean? In the apps drawer?
You also get bothered with update messages for apps that you don't use. Much better to turn them off.
Better to rid yourself of them. Some of them use data in the background even when you have never opened them, all of them burn bandwidth updating, some will send unwanted notifications, some have various reporting you might not want going on, some will light off location burning battery.
The old saying is if you don't use it, lose it. It still applies.
I like to remove system apps that I don't use like email or attn and other stuff... package disabler pro is a good app but paid... you can connect your phone to a pc and use debloater that can be found here in xda
Thanks for all the replies! But can someone please post a list of what they feel is good to be disabled?

Agreed although I recalled mine when I get it back would be nice to know what is safe for the note 7 as most auto de bloater apps disable stuff that you don't want disabled. Would be good to have a proper list of all known safe bloatware and small description of each.

How do I get good battery life

Hi guys,
So around 1 month ago now, I got myself hands on a Note10+ (N975F)
I have been noticing screen off time drain, it is around 1.8% for me. I have tried using greenify, optimizing the settings, battery saving mode etc.
It hasn't really been working for me. Screen off time is really important for me, even more than screen on time.
So i wanted to know, how could I maximize the battery life of my Note10+? Is there like a custom rom you could recommend, like Lineage or dr ketan?
Knox is already tripped bcz of the previous owner, so that is no problem. Or a other custom rom or just with rooting something.
If you know anything, I would appreciate it if you could tell me,
Kind regards,
Crewz
First, you can select apps that you dont require to be always running, to be dormant, look for this option in settings, also you can install galaxy labs, there is a similar option there also, I disabled several apps via CCSWE, that have the undesirable behavior of being always running and accesing internet, such as facebook, chrome, youtube, operator apps, etc, also, with CCSWE you can deprive apps of certain undesired services that eat batt, this a process that takes some time, as you use the device, you can obseve and decide what to disable, to uninstall, or control via ccswe, I have my note 10+ since Sept 6 2019 and the battery lasts thru the whole day, I get some 7 hrs SOT on normal std use, when I play intensive games,, that is another diferent thing

Hey thank you for taking the time to help me. I have tried what you said, I went into settings and I went through my apps and selected those that don't need to run in the background. Are there any other device settings you recommend changing?
Thanks for your time.
Decide if you want to root it, if so you'll have many more options and tools to work with.
Otherwise get PD MDM to block apks from running at boot and disable them.
Use Samsung Device Manager and set to Optimized in main window. Toggle on fast charging but don't enable any other off the top 3 dot menu. You can then disable that app too. 3rd party power management apps including Samsung's can screw it up. Cloud apps, Goggle Backup Transport/Backup Framework are big offenders on my stock 10+
Disable Google, Samsung and any carrier feedback.
To hell with Bixby except Bixby Vision/Vision Framework which are needed by the cam for full functionality.
Play with it.

Don't disable Bixby Framework either.
The feedback options are buried in settings, you'll run into them.
I'm not rooted so I don't spend much time looking at what I could do. You do have real time cpu/power usage capabilities with it for weeding out the hogs... for one thing.

Galaxy labs, Battery Tracker is useful.
See if Google Backup Transport or Framework are the culprits. If already package blocked clear their data and the data on Goggle Play Services ie gms.
It can be hard to ferret out as many apks simply are thrown together under Android Services.
Worse some Google apps falsely show under Transport etc even when its blocked. That why you clear the data of gms.
Use the factory load of Samsung Device Manager to globally clean caches. Reboots seldom help.
Turn off location, bt and wifi if not using.
Do not let Playstore run or Samsung updates unless your using them.
When running clean its ide current with screen on is typically in the 100-200 ma range. A few lower and higher. If you're getting a lot of spikes 400 ma and above at idle something is using a lot of the cpu resources...

So I installed Galaxy Labs and Battery Tracker.
I noticed that Google Foto's was on top with 7.1%.
Followed was whatsapp with 6.3%
And google play service was 3.78%
I haven't seen Google Backup Transport in the list.
Would there be like a way to turn off location automaticly when I am not using it, for example that it would only turn on for google maps or something?
Thanks for your time!

If you leave locations on it's a whore to a lot of apps including Google. Looks like you found your prime suspects.
Lol, WhatsApp never runs here same with FB.

So I just have to have location turned off that's it?
You toggle it on and off as needed...

Alright i'll see how that goes. Also, I got myself the original wireless charger from samsung today.
Would it be okay if I just putted it down on it whenever I am at my desk? I mean battery wize.

Only 7 hours SoT with a 7000mah battery seems TERRIBLE... I can get 11+ no problem with a 5000mah one.

Try optimizing the apps by going into settings. Also try disabling the running of useless apps in background. I was also facing battery drain very fast but since i disabled background usage of useless apps and optimized the apps on battery, i am getting terrific results. Will post screenshots when i head back home.
I'm getting around 12Hrs+ with my poco F1 which has 4000mah
its usual with any new phone .. id recommend disable fast charging , let it charge overnight with a regular speed.
after the second charge , im getting 17+ hours - over two use of youtube, netflix and texting , which is marvelous
loving the device , camera is great , screen is crisp , and its SNAAAAAAAAAPDragon .. F.CK Yeah
Got 17 hours on my first charge and that was with 4gb of WhatsApp backup downloading, setting up my work profile and lots of other one time things! I have done my usual of setting a lot of apps to deep sleeping and disabling any bloatware I can't uninstall using Samsung package disabler pro. I reckon 20 hours is possible with this phone...

What is the difference between disabling bloatware using settings app and by using Samsung package disabler? I mean why install another app to just disable stuff which you can easily achieve using settings app. In both cases space will be used, app updates won't be applied. So what is the benefit of using that app? I am just asking if i am missing anything?

There are lots of Samsung apps that you can't uninstall or disable. By settings app you mean the native phone settings for apps? Also with package disabler you can very quickly trial and undo things incase you see negative impacts

Yes, native phone settings app won't let you disable certain samsung apps/services. Can you post the list of apps/services which are safe to disable. It would be helpful for me as well as others Thanks
