Proximity Sensor issue Redmi Note 9 Pro - Redmi Note 9 Pro (International Model) General and

I have a Redmi Note 9 Pro 64GB Global and MIUI 12.0.1.0 (QJZMIXM). The issue is that when I want to call or listen to a Whatsapp or Telegram voice message, the phone's screen turns off immediately before I even raise the phone and near it on my ear. and it doesn't turn back on till I wait for the call or voice message to finish.
some details found by me:
1. threshold of the sensor is too high and maybe sensitive. it reacts even up to 20 cm! other phones are up to 5 cm max.
2. it doesn't seem to be a hardware issue. because first its a known issue and some customers have faced with this bug even after starting phones on the first day, second the sensor passes the tests properly (but with that Threshold issue), third I heard that its a common issue on some Xiaomi phones and Redmi Note 9 has been fixed already (just heard).
3. there is a weird relation between the proximity and accelerator (or gyroscope) movements. sometimes the screen turns back on when I change the orientation of the phone in the air.
need to be said:
1. Factory reset, Update, reflashing latest full ROM could not help.
2. there is no bad glass cover on the screen.
3. of course I always do my try in the air and far from any objects that make the sensor near.
4. I'm not sure but I think I did not have this bug on the factory MIUI version. it was 11.2 maybe.
is there any solution for this annoying trouble?
has anyone been faced it?

Brother i m also face this problem i had to device note 7 note 9 note 9pro
Note 7 wil fix by root
9 and 9pro no solution

Have you tried the test by
HardReset.info: (in dialer type) *#*#64663#*#* ?
There is even a point to recalibrate it. But for me it shows all 0.

Proximity sensor works inconsistently

I recently bought a Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) which works exceptionally well however today I've noticed something odd (probably would have noticed it before but the phone was actually a gift so not at all times with me).
During a call the proximity sensor will only turn off the screen when the phone is close but it will not turn the phone on when I move it away. I've gone through many online articles and in the majority of cases it was a problem with the screen protection. However, I do not use any kind of screen protection.
Additionally I've noticed something really odd. Zenfone 2 has an inbuilt testing suite (SMMI Test) which allows testing various parts of the hardware. The proximity sensor test consists of three steps (NEAR, AWAY, NEAR). They should be self-explanatory (NEAR triggers when an object is close, AWAY when its far). In my case the first step (NEAR) always triggers after the test starts but the other two (AWAY, NEAR) simply won't. That's until I use the app switch button (next to the home button) to re-enter the test application again. The other two steps then complete successfully.
Considering the behavior can I rule out a hardware problem and pin the issues to the software?
The proximity sensor issue was successfully resolved by reverting back to the 2.20.40.90 firmware. The 2.40.40.97 version (at least WW) obviously has issues with it.
You can find detailed instructions on how to perform stock recovery in this topic (http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/help/reverting-to-stock-firmware-t3225632).
Once again props to kanagawaben and all the people which contributed to this topic.

[Solved] Galaxy A3 2017 - fingerprint scanner almost unusable

Hello,
Anyone else has this problem where the fingerprint scanner barely works (almost unusable) ? I tried many ways to enter the fingerprints but it registers like 1 in 10 tries...
Edit 2: Best solution here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72875604&postcount=18
If that does not solve the issue, also try this:

same here. Samsung makes the worst finger print scanners.
thinking of 4 scan for same finger see if that helps.
Huawei makes the best finger print scanners

That is not normal, my A5 works 9 in 10 on the first try.
Not a single error in my A3
Mine is totally unusable... any idea?
Well, it seems that I'm not the only one with this problem. Hopefully it can be fixed with an update.
I have to say that my thumb skin is a bit damaged (from doing work on cars, around the house, etc.) but this was never a problem with my S7 Edge. I tried a different finger with healthy skin and it does work a lot better, but still not 100%, it seems to me that the A3 sensor has real issues.
same Problem with my girlfriends A3.
Fingerprint scannner works in 1 of 4 times if youre lucky sometimes doesn't work at all.
She has already made 3 scans with 1 finger but didn't really help
Maybe send it back for warrenty repairs if a factory reset won't work'? I'm sorry but fingerprint sensor should work fine.

To be honest, I don't think this is solvable via warranty work. I am not sending my almost new phone back just to receive a refurbished piece of thrash. I am putting my faith into a firmware update. The funny thing is, I really like the phone even with this problem, it is very fluid and has even better battery life than the S7 Edge.
So here is a workaround I have found, for those having the issue:
- Instead of using the tip of the finger when adding your fingerprint, use the area just below the tip. In the attached picture, use the area marked with green instead of the one marked with red. It will then work 100%, it's amazing how fast and accurate it is. It's just not very smart like the S7/S8 and other phones and it probably has issues when the skin is not 100% perfect or maybe with pronounced geometric distortions like it is the case when using the finger tip.
Hi folks, a workaround for me was disabling the keep screen turned off, became much more accurate after that
I've got similar problem with always on display. When I turned it off everithyng is fine
I am having similar issues with my phone. I have tried using all three stored fingerprints as just my thumb and I still have trouble getting it to unlock. I do have Always On Display turned on, and I don't really want to disable it as suggested in this thread because it's an awesome feature. Samsung should be able to something as easy as a fingerprint scanner right. Hopefully this is simply a software issue that is patched
hi guys
you lock phone with power key or with widget (like screen off)?
After having the same problem I started turning my thumb much more (even almost fully vertical) during the scanning process. Now it works fine. DHNL
hi actually solved the problem what i did is that factory reset the phone, i schedule a weekly restart, i clean my scanner and i assigned all 3 fingerprints on to the same finger and it worked
Hi folks,
I am experiencing the same issue. I found some relief using a different finger. I have registered three of my fingersprints. For some weird reason only one of the three fingers works acceptably good, the other two are successful very rarely. I therefore recommend you to try with a different finger or several of them to find out which one better works for you.
Good luck !
I can confirm there is indeed a problem with SAMSUNG A5 2017 fingerprint system. The recognition rate can be extremely low in some condition (around 10% positive, meaning almost unusable). This seems to be a software bug
Here is a turn around :
If you record your fingerprint with the screen "always on" function activated , then the recognition rate is extremely poor.
if you unactivate this function during recording process, then the rate is ok (higher than 90%), even if you reactivate the always on function after recoring session
I guess this could be solved by Samsung in the latest firmware A5 (2017) update.

Where is pocket mode?

Why the pocket mode for Mi 9 SE was missing? Someone know how to turn it on? If I running or ride by bike - fingerprint display is still active.

I think the fingerprint scanner is always active when the phone detects motion. The in screen readers work differently from the others. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Does it seem to have any effect on battery life?
@cman245: I have Mi 9 SE only two days ... I don´t know any effect on battery life. But pocket mode is missing for me. Fingerprint indicator is still active by aby motions.

Mine is the same but I haven't noticed any problem. Mine rides in my pocket a lot. Only part of the screen turns on and I would think it uses a lot less power than static display like on Samsung devices. Pocket mode is definitely not there but I'm not sure that it is a problem. Is so, maybe Xiaomi will address it in a future update.
In ROM from xiaomi.eu is option to fingerprint indicator off by motion.
The easiest way to deal with that is, that the phone should be able to detect when its in pocket by using the distance-sensor that detects when you put it to your ear when telephoning.
hope they fix this soon. i have so many pictures and videos taken while in my pocket.
just get its messing up when my pocket goes really hot...
cheers andy
The easiest way is install xiaomi.eu (stable or weekly).
I have "wake on notifications" and "double tap to wake" disabled.
The phone still wakes all the time while inside my pocket.
If I'm listening to music, it causes the music to pause every few minutes and once it was even locked due to "many wrong password attempts".
Super annoying. Does this not happen on xiaomi.eu? Also, is google pay working on xiaomi.eu stable?
EDIT: I update to 10.3.1 and I think they might have fixed it. I'll see if it happens on my comute back home, as it seemed to happen most when I was listening to music/podcast and the phone received a notification while in my pocket.
I just tested, now if I block the top portion of the phone with my hand, the fingprint reader no longer responds to touch. So they've basically implemented/fixed the pocket mode.
Also, if block the top of the screen while the lockscreen is awake, is instantly turns the screen off and disables touch.
On xiaomi.eu is not this issue. I´am rideing by mtb bike with Youtube Music + TrueWireless headphones and no problem.
I've been using the latest global version for a day now. It's been fixed.
Pocket Mode is built in somehow and a half working but working.
Phone is, in generally, garbage except Samsung SAMOLED and final finishing.
THE WORST THING IS PROXIMITY SENSOR MALFUNCTIONING as at most Mi phones... GAR-BA-GE!
I am disappointed at all
There are not yet implement pocket mode to SE model.
Mi 9T and Mi 9 have the same UltraSonic proxy sensor as SE but have a Pocket Mode option in latest XEU ROM and SE don't have yet
Where is and what is the problem for implementation?

pa_therm0 temperature going 101°C on WHYRED

Hello,
I have a Redmi Note 5 pro since 2 years. I have been on a custom ROM since very beginning. Right now I have been on Masik ROM since 1+year. But I am facing really strange things since these summers. My device is going to "emergency calls only" often. The problem begun firstly when I used to sit in sun in winters. The device naturally got warm due to sun. But these summers, my device just goes to "emergency calls only" even while charging, and even while watching YouTube!! The device doesn't get any serious hot or so. I checked the temperatures in CPU-Z app and wohh. It blew my mind when I see "pa_thermal0" reading continuously at 100°C, and goes to 102°C while doing normal jobs. And this is a serious problem as the radio of phone necessary for call & internet is turning off as the phone takes it as over heating.
I didn't face this problem ever before. I suppose there's something wrong with the sensor data. I'll first try to flash another ROM as I am on a stagnant version of Masik(a custom MIUI ROM) since very long now. If this doesn't fix, the sensor might have fried. And I don't know if there's any fix for that.
But is there anyway to disable that sensor anyhow?
Edit: The problem is only on Sim 1. SIM 2 is working normal.

Question Help needed for solving miui issues

The Mi Mix Fold is great as a media device, but it is full of bugs, there are many problems with this device:
1). the rom, the software on this phone is china miui and there is no custom rom, meaning you are stuck with whatever china region related miui issues such as: 1). no caller name when someone is calling 2).
keyboard gets switched to china keyboard after every restart 3).
many apps won't work simply because the phone is china or in english, so if you leave somewhere else in the world, apps that support your native language might not work properly, 4).
if you set your region in the phone to somewhere outside of china, you get annoying wifi disconnects that are only fixed when turning off and wifi on 5).
because of the above feature unless you open the apps to check occasionally if you received messages, you will miss out on notifications since they can randomly stop working until you turn wifi off and on again, or enter the app manually (I tried locking the app, setting it to auto start, also turning off battery saving options but it keeps happening and whatsapp for example is a pain to handle since I have to manually open the app to see if I have messages.
if anyone knows how to solve any of the above issues or would like to share their experience about this please post a reply, thanks everyone!
Please make a global rom, request to All developed

Hi. I used to have this problem also with my Xiaomi Fold, and after a long troubleshooting period and reading ur post, found the issue are the towers in US, the 5G signal being inconsistent or weak. I installed the app Connection Stabilizer Booster/google store and since then (1month+), notification delay is 5-10mins maximum, no phone calls missed. Most of times on 4G, was showing 5G prior. Hope helps.

Hey its been so long since I posted this, around December I got the mi 11 ultra again and sold the mix fold at a loss, because it has no market here, but it was the best decision I made, the mix fold dissappointed me everywhere, low refresh rate screens, bad cameras, no wireless charging, very bad software support (still on android 11), the mi 11 ultra fixes all these issues and does more, this mix fold was my first and last foldable phone, horrible device in everyway compared to the mi 11 ultra
Instead of the Mi 11 Ultra, I just bought an Oppo Find N after the inner screen on my Mix Fold broke.
(it had been showing signs of damage i.e. stuck/dead pixels, and then one day I pulled it out my pocket, and the screen was suddenly busted and non-functional)
Anyways, just wanted to say that the 8GB Oppo Find N is overall waay nicer than my 16GB Mix Fold was. This is a PSA.
Also, if anyone is interested in buying a Mix Fold with a busted inner screen, let me know. I'll let you figure out the repair.
