Read this FAQ: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...for-merlin-redmi-note-9-redmi-10x-4g.4225163/

I have one particular scenario and several questions involving this:
I managed to return back to custom rom using Xiaomi Flash Tool and a 12.0.4.0 version of the MIUI 12 also bootloader unlocked. I saw this post and decided to change roms again. Only this time it requires TWRP (since several roms needed Permissiver_v4.zip to avoid bootloop for some reason) I wanted to flash TWRP, and then, fastboot flash that specific rom and flash permissiver via TWRP. The questions are:
1.) Will flashing Permissiver on an unofficial TWRP work since the 12.0.4.0 update or older seems compatible with the recovery?
2.) Since Erfan's GSI ROM recommends root users to flash permissiver as a way to change SElinux from Enforcing to Permissive before booting up, for you, what is the best alternative for Permissiver without flashing via TWRP since it has major issues when flashing on Redmi Note 9?
3.) Does flashing rom via fastboot and flashing permissiver via TWRP work?

You can't downgrade your miui version without unlocked bootloader. For this, you need unlocked bootloader and use fastboot for flashing older version. You don't need any permissive patcher, everything is working fine on higher miui versions. Everything you need to do is flash some partition from older versions and newer versions will works perfectly. I am sorry about custom rom, but I don't like it and I will never use it.
If you are using V12.0.5.0 or higher, TWRP will not work.
If you want to keep TWRP working on V12.0.5.0 or higher, you need to flash the stock rom lk partition using V12.0.4.0 (or lower). (It will works perfectly with lower lk partition version).
Here, are LK images for flashing: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...omi-redmi-note-9-xiaomi-redmi-10x-4g.4218925/
If you want to disable TWRP, you need to flash stock rom recovery partition.
Here, are RECOVERY images for flashing: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...omi-redmi-note-9-xiaomi-redmi-10x-4g.4204671/
If your device keep booting in recovery (or blackscreen), you need to erase misc partition.
Here, is the guide for erasing MISC partition: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...omi-redmi-note-9-xiaomi-redmi-10x-4g.4209299/
Good luck

One more question..
1. Does the Unofficial twrp work? I mean if I managed to flash twrp on Redmi Note 9 12.0.40.0, can it flash several zip files?

Read the reply again, I've already answered it.
There is no V12.0.40.0, the correct version is V12.0.4.0.
About flashing, it will depend on the changes made by the zip file.
You need to try for to know.

I didn't flash vbmeta. I will do and try again. I'm using ADB/ Fastboot tool. So first, I should flash vbmeta image and then, TWRP. Do I'm right? In which partition I need to flash vbmeta? (boot, recovery, system, etc.) Thanks!

Evern with unlocked bootloader, Vbmeta verifies if any partition has changed, if it was, then it reboots the device, causing a bootloop.
You need to patch vbmeta if you want to apply changes to your device.
Here, you can find patched vbmeta for MERLIN:

You need to do the exact same thing.
If you are flashing the vbmeta.img, obviously the name of the partition is vbmeta.

Should i need to flash vbmeta before flashing recovery or after flashing recovery? It wasn't clear there.

The vbmeta is so simple, it can only do two things: allow the beginning of the boot, or not.
If you flash the stock vbmeta without disabled verity and disabled verification, your device will be bricked.
Vbmeta verifies if any partition has changed, if it was, then it reboots the device, causing a bootloop.
You really need to patch vbmeta if you want to apply changes to your device.

[resolved] Problem with installing custom ROM [stuck at boot animation]

Edit: Got it working. All I had to do was check both checkboxes on AVB 2.0 and also check both in RM Forceencrypt.
Hi! I recently tried to install a custom ROM (LineageOS, Pixel Experience, CesiumOS), but every time I tried I got stuck at boot animation.
I'm on MIUI 11 V11.0.3.0 PGGEUXM Android 9 (Should I flash V11.0.6.0 PGGMIXM Global? )
What i did:
1.Unlocked bootloader
2.Flashed factory preloader from the Megathread
3.Flashed TWRP (by wzsx150)
4.Formated Data (in TWRP) and then Dalvik, Cache and System
5.Transferred ROM and vendor.img (and Magisk 20.4) to /sdcard/ (I got vendor.img from CesiumOS thread)
6.Flashed vendor.img

TWRP does work above 12.0.5, I have tested.
New build: https://tdrive.elytra8.workers.dev/image-new.img
Flash like you flash any other custom recovery.
For ADS in MIUI, using debloat tool and removing MSA does the job.

Uhm... hello, newbie here and hopefully in the right thread.
I have a Redmi Note 9 and wanted to install LineageOS. What I have done so far:
Jumped through all the hoops to unlock the bootloader.
Since that erases all user data, I did not bother setting a password in the setup. Just went through it as quickly as possible.
Installed TWRP 12.0.6
Used that to install lineage-17.1-20210209-UNOFFICIAL-merlin.zip from here.
Result: The new system does not boot. I always end up in TWRP again. Even if I specifically go to Reboot -> System, it'll boot into recovery. I think the first boot fails and then it goes into recovery (if I power the device off and on again, it vibrates, the logo comes on, the screen goes black, it vibrates again, the logo shows again, and then I'm in TWRP).
What I have tried unsuccessfully:
Flashing the vbmeta from here.
Erasing the misc partition.
Flashing the old lk from here.
Closing the AVB2.0 after flash (with and without closing DM verity).
Wiping cache, dalvik, data, internal storage, and cache before reinstalling LOS.
Replacing TWRP with PBRP and trying again.
Probably some other things I don't remember. I've been chasing red herrings through this rabbit hole all day.
I also tried to install the ArrowOS build (from here), just to have one more datapoint. After that, the device boot-loops into the bootloader, and I have to manually go into recovery via VolUp+Power. This leads me to believe that it's not the LOS build at fault. It seems more likely that I am a moron and am doing something wrong. I just can't figure out what it is.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, Custom roms for Redmi Note 9 need MIUI 12.0.1 Indonesia, or MIUI 12.0.3 global vendor.
Downgrade your phone to the specific MIUI vendor, and then try flashing custom rom.
Here's the link for global 12.0.3
Xiaomi Firmware Updater
The ultimate script that provides firmware packages for Xiaomi devices.
xiaomifirmwareupdater.com
And before you downgrade your miui version, please erase system and vendor to bypass anti roll back.
Use these commands after connecting device in fastboot mode:
fastboot reboot fastboot
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase vendor
fastboot reboot bootloader
Then flash the 12.0.3 global/12.0.1 Indonesia miui version through MiFlash.
Or
You could give flashing 12.0.1 Indonesia vendor in TWRP, and then flashing rom.
If after fastboot reboot fastboot it shows waiting for device, install this driver. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JFYCZ3mu_Y_xpnS7QrmtwqOeFnWg6DO2/view?usp=sharing
Please note that you need to be on stock recovery for fastboot reboot fastboot to work.
Happy flashing
Thank you very much! With that info, I think I finally have it working!
I case it's helpful for future users, here are some issues I encountered along the way:

Is that normal? I do have a partition named 'super' that I can see in the TWRP backup module. Judging from its size, that could be the system partition. I think there's also a vbmeta_system and vbmeta_vendor, did you mean those?

Ok, so I downloaded the full ROM for 12.0.3 global. I'm using Linux, so MiFlash won't work. But the ROM archive I downloaded contained a bunch of partition images and a shell script that would flash them using the fastboot command. I just ran that script. Windows users probably could have run the .bat file that was also included. There were no errors. And after a reboot, MIUI started to boot and presented me with the setup procedure.
I did not complete the setup (I suspect it would have just auto-updated MIUI to something that would have caused problems again) and used the power button to go into the bootloader.
From there, I flashed TWRP again (since it got overwritten by the script mentioned above), went into recovery mode, and tried to install LOS again. First, flashing seemed to hang. The last messages in the log were:
Code:
Installing file '/external_sd/Download/lineage-17.1-20210209-UNOFFICIAL-merlin.zip'
Checking for Digest file...
Target: Redmi/merlin_eea/merlin:10/QP1A.190711.020/V11.0.2.0.QJOEUXM:user/release-leys
And that was it. The border around the progress bar was doing it's busy animation thing and after waiting for 10 minutes, I used the power button to reset the device.
The second attempt went through fine, and now I have LineageOS running on the device. I still need to play around with it some more to see if there are any issues, but the flashing itself seems to have worked.
Again, thank you for your help!

Oh you're using Linux, for Linux the commands is
/.fastboot reboot fastboot
Great to know you were able to flash successfuly. Note that first boot in all roms is a bootloop, you just have to force reboot after a minute of bootlogo showing up or so.
hi i flashed a wrong twrp and now the phone keeps bootlooping, cannot enter recovery or fastboot by power + vol (+ or -)

Apparentely, you need to flash in EDL mode.
So, you need to bypass the authentication in EDL mode first.

Newbie Android user here, hopefully i’m on the correct thread...i have a Redmi Note 9 with MIUI Global version 11.0.5 and Magisk version 20.4.
I tried updating Magisk to the latest version using the direct install option but I keep getting an error. I was told I need manually patch the boot.img and flash it but I need to create a magisk_patch.img first from the boot.img.
I read some of the guides on this thread but I’m not sure which one to follow. Also the steps to create the magisk_patch.image shows I need to click the Install button on Magisk then Select and Patch a file. I only have the Update button on Magisk, can I use that instead?
Or if you have other suggestion how to fix my issue. I attached the error I’m getting when I’m updating Magisk.
Thank you in advance for the assistance.

You can't install the magisk using the direct option.
You need to the patch the boot.img file and then flash the magisk_patched.img using fastboot (or spflashtool).

HELP PLS
i first flashed the patched_magisk.img then i got in a twrp boot loop. When i try to reboot into the system i get back to twrp menu.
Then i panicked and went to WIPE and factory reseted,
but it got stuck again. Then i powered it off.
How do i get out of this? I wanted to flash the stock boot.img but the storage folders has strange names
EDIT:
i figured it out what i have done. The data was ecrypted so i formated the data. But now i have another problem:
I installed linageOS from here, but when want to reboot back to system it says
No OS Installed! Are you sure you wish to reboot? i don't undertand why the custom rom didn't install.
I just copied the .zip file with the custom rom in the phone and hit install in TWRP. What did i do wrong?

Steps for flashing vbmeta are same for every device.
You may try to use the search.
Here, you can find patched vbmeta for MERLIN:

no, i mean a full guide for rooting from the beggining to end, for redmi note 9. For example i missed the vbmeta and this resulted in an error. Now i have to flash the stock firmware and wait for another 7 days for it to unlock. For newbies like me, this looks like a mess. If you don't have one, can you please create one? Do it for us, newcomers. Thanks

Installing Magisk on Redmi Note 8T (Willow) with Lineage OS and recovery

I am trying to get Magisk to work on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T with Lineage OS, but the step where I am patching the boot.img is failing. I am using LOS recovery, and I followed the instructions provided by topjohnwu [1]: because the 8T doesn't appear to have ramdisk (I don't know what that means btw), I need to patch an image (my recovery image?) with the magisk app - this is what I did:
1. Install Magisk App and check status: "Ramdisk: No"
2. Download Lineage recovery image [2] and patch in Magisk
3. Install patched recovery image using fastbook [3]
4. Wipe device and Install LOS + GApps
5. Reboot to system => still says "Ramdisk: No"
What am I doing wrong? How did everyone else root their Note 8T?

install OrangeFox recovery
rename Magisk22.APK to Magisk22.ZIP
install it like any zip in recovery
reboot
(i suggest you do a clean flash to avoid problems)
(yess, RN8 have ramdisk but that's not required for root to work)
After clean flashing the official LOS 17.1, I re-tried to install Magisk giving it every request permission and following steps detailed above by loopypalm but (as before) I'm still seeing "Requires Additional Setup" followed by a "Setup failed" message...
I unlocked the phone recently, set up the latest OrangeFox recovery and flashed new RN8 global firmware v12.0.4.0, Lineage v17.1 nightly 20210405 and pico OpenGapps 20210406. The phone isn't even encrypted (i.e., I've set no fingerprint, pin or pattern).
I tried removing Magisk v22 with the official uninstaller and downgrading to v21.4 with the same result. Then I used the Manager facilities to upgrade both Manager and the underlying Magisk, but still no dice.
I'm scratching my head here about what else to try. Something I noticed that may or may not be related is, while it was working alright before I started setting up Magisk, advanced reboot became really sluggish and failed to reboot to recovery after this (only buttons work).
I'll keep searching and will maybe try a different ROM but this is a real bummer.

i think you should try RRos (it's based on LOS and updated)
i said kernel, so if you have one in mind, that's the step (correct order) you flash it in
(people use "sixteen" for battery,or default "quicksilver" ,or ryzen or ...)
DFE is "Disables dm-verity, forced encryption"

Hi loopypalm, only for curiosity: is there a reason why to wipe /data "again" in step 6 after having formatted /data already in step 4? And furthermore why to format /data for a second time in step 10? What happens to /data after the first formatting that makes these steps recommendable? Thx if you find a minute to explain...

me personally i don't think formatting data a 2nd time is necessary
but as for what i think could be the reason is after formatting data you will get a "raw" file system , so the OS will choose the situable file system for it "EXT2" or "EXT4" or ...
that's why sometimes the system wont boot even if you flash DFE
(which (i think) is the case on all ports like ONEUI or OOS ...)

- Orange Fox, should "Allow modifications" be enabled OR "keep read-only"?
- will latest A11 (anrdoid 11) stable FW (Firmware) also be ok, or is this guide specifically for A10?
Other notes of mine:
- OrangeFox requires device to be unlocked with MiFlash unlocking software first. (It's a type A device it seems, NOT a/b)

General Rooting MIUI on Lisa

My thoughts about rooting stock MIUI on Xiaomi 11 Lite 5g NE (Lisa)
This week I'm still waiting for Bootloader, but checking about the possibilities.
Coming from Xiaomi Mi 9T (Davinci) – I owned the phone for 2+ years, used stock EEA first, then switched to Xiaomi.eu Weeklies and finally to Xiaomi.eu Stable.
Trough the time, I went from A9/MIUI 10 to A11/MIUI 12.5, and in parallel I experimented with all relevant Magisk version (Stable, Beta, Canary, Lite, Alpha and Custom Magisk) – curently I'm on Magisk Alpha 23018 (with Zygisk, DenyList, Shamiko – no more the old MagiskHide).
Through all that, I used my Davinci as daily driver, for private and business, and I never had any bigger issues. I hope for the similar experience with my new Lisa.
As you can see, I'm not a fan of custom ROMs (altough I experimented with some of them on my previous devices), hence I also plan for Lisa, at least for now, to stay on MIUI.
Stock MIUI:
1.AFAIK, there are two unofficial custom recoveries but they don't support A12 encryption on /Data and Internal memory, hence they are of limited use for rooting.
They can be used for ADB sideloading and probably with OTG stick and external SD card.
But they cannot install/flash from Internal memory, backup/restore to Internal memory, and generally they cannot backup /Data – specially, TWRP cannot be used for fixing /adb/data in case of magisk bootloops.
2.However, for the installation of Magisk, TWRP is NOT REQUIRED – although by (1), TWRP could be still used for e.g. flashing the Magisk zip from OTG stick.
3.Magisk can be alternatively installed by: installing Magisk app (no root yet), patching the extracted boot.img (in Magisk app), and flashing the patched boot img from Fastboot (therefore, by completely bypassing TWRP).
My Lisa came with EEA 12.5.7 and it was immediately updated to 12.5.8, hence I have downloaded the stock miui_LISAEEAGlobal_V12.5.8.0.RKOEUXM_700eb7116a_11.0.zip and unzipped – but unlike for e.g. Mi 9 series, the OTA package does not contain separated boot.img (192 MB).
Instead, it contains 13.2 GB payload.bin (SAR, Dynamic partitions, all in once) and when I tried, Magisk cannot patch, reporting that format is not supported.
4. There are still some other ways to install Magisk. Maybe, by backing up Boot to OTG stick / external SD card – the backed up boot.emmc.win file can be used as the boot img for patching.
Or by flashing the Magisk zip through TWR (from external SD /OTG) – but that might be risky in case of a brick, fixing may not be easy.
Xiaomi.eu:
Xiaomi.eu ROMs are essentially debloated MIUI. Usually they are even bette, specially if staying on Xiaomi.eu Stable releases (Weekly releases are essentially betas).
Since I was accustomed to Xiaomi.eu on my Davinci, I also planned to switch to Xiaomi.eu on my Lisa.
Currently, they have Stable 12.5.7 (A11), while Weeklies with MIUI 13 / A12 are around the corner (they will start once Xiaomi starts releasing MIUI 13 weekly Betas for Lisa)
5. Hence I have downloaded xiaomi.eu_multi_MI11LE_XM11Lite5GNE_V12.5.7.0.RKOCNXM_v12-11-fastboot.zip. Since there is no TWRP for Lisa, Xiaomi.eu ROM must be installed through Fastboot (unzip and run the batch script windows_fastboot_first_install_with_data_format.bat).
The zip file contains the boot.img and I just tried, Magisk (Alpha) can succesfuly patch – the patched img needs to be flashed from Fastboot to Boot (I cannot proceed for now since still waiting for BL to be unlocked).
If anything goes wrong, it will be just enough to flash the original Xiaomi.eu boot.img.
I already used the same procedure for installing Magisk to Davinci, however I used then TWRP/OF/SHRP (not Fastboot) to flash the patched boot img directly from the couche and the phone – this could even apply to Lisa, if placing the patched boot img to external SD or OTG stock.
Please correct me and/or comment about the other posssbilites about installing Magisk to MIUI on Lisa, specially with your results if you already tried.
I rooted my lisa by the patched boot.img method. Working like a charm! One thing to note is that you need to reinstall Magisk to the inactive slot soon after OTA but before rebooting since the device uses a/b partitioning. But now for some reason, the more dark mode options in the dark mode settings doesn't work anymore

Which ROM are you talking please, Xiaomi.eu or the stock - if stock, please details (CN/Golobal/EEA and MIUI version like in the Settings/My Device)?
I'm asking because for EEA 12.5.8 (that I have) I don't see how can I get boot.img.
I downloaded the OTA zip but it does not contain boot.img, instead, there is 13.2 GB payload.bin inside - see my post above).
For Xiaimu.eu ni problem, their fastboot zip contains the images folder with boot img inside

I'm on the stock MIUI India edition. To get the boot.img, download the fastboot ROM. All the images will be in there. But you can also extract the boot.img from the payload file as well. The guide can be found here.

Ok, thanks, Payload_Dumper works
Since it is A/B device, should I flash to both slots?
fastboot flash boot_a patched_boot.img
fastboot flash boot_b patched_boot.img

Just fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img should be enough. It'll flash the image to the active slot automatically.
Upon waiting the standard 168 hours, I successfully unlocked my new Lisa (Xiaomi 11 Lite 5g NE)
---
Since I had MIUI EEA 12.5.8 (A11), I downloaded the miui_LISAEEAGlobal_V12.5.8.0.RKOEUXM_700eb7116a_11.0.zip (use MIUI Downloader app from Playstore to make it easy).
Unzipped and found payload.bin inside - used Payload_Dumper (search on XDA) to extract boot.img
I installed Magisk Alpha 24001 app (the same will work for Magisk Stable or Magic Beta 2400x) and patched the boot.img.
I first tested does it boot correctly:
fastboot boot patched_boot.img
and then permanently flashed the Magisk:
fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img
New Magisk does no more support MagiskHide - use Zygisk+DenyList+Shamiko instead:
In Magisk app, enable Zygisk and reboot.
Then enable Enforce DenyList, open Configure DenyList, enable filter to show System and OS apps, find Google Play Services (GMS) and checkmark:
com.google.android.gms
com.google.android.gms.unstable
Additionally checkmark the other (like banking) apps you used to checkmark for MagiskHide in the old Magisk v23
E.g., I always checkmark Xiaomi stock Security (com.miui.securitycenter) and Safety Net checkers like YASNAC (download from Playstore - Magisk does no more include SafetyNet checker coming with the app).
Reboot again.
Since it is also good idea to hide this new Zygisk, I installed Shamiko (Magisk module) and disabled Enforce DenyList (Shamiko will read and take over from DenyList).
Reboot
Additionally, to hide init.rc, I installed InitRcHider module.
Finally to pass the SafetyNet (CTS, unlocked Bootloader), I installed USNF 2.2.1 (latest at the moment, like all the other modules I mention here).
Note: InitRcHider and Shamiko are not required for SN, but without Zygisk+DenyList+USNF you will not pass
Google Play was showing that Device is not certified - I deleted Cache and Data for Google Play Store app, rebooted and after some time Device was certified
Since Magisk does no more connect to the Modules Repo, use Fox Magisk Module Manager
---
Further, I installed AdAway hosts/root mode (don't forget to enable Systemless Hosts in Magisk, and reboot), Vanced YouTube root
By using SystemlessDebloater (find in Fox Mmm), I have debloated 40-something preinstalled system apps - attached is the config list for Debloater, if you want to keep certain apps (Facebook or so, remove those names from the list)
E.g., for Vanced YT, I first uninstalled all updates to YT and then used SystemlessDebloater to debloat the built in the system YT v17, then successfully installed Vanced YT root that requires YT v16.29.39
---
Since Riru is incompatible with Zygisk, use LSposed-Zygisk version. As LSPosed modules, I use GravityBox_R, CustoMIUIzer and HideMyApplist (HMA)
E.g. with HMA I detach (hide) YouTube and AndroidAuto (I still need to configure apps and hacks for AA - work in progress) - YT Vanced root and similarly the hacks for AA require particular old versions of YT or AA.
By detaching those apps from Playstore, I make sure that Playstore does not bother, and does not update by mistake (even mine) YT and AA
Also, banking and similar apps usually look for Magisk app, LSPosed, and LSPosed modules - if they find, they detect 'root'
You can use e.g. Oprek Detector (fromg Google Play):
- checkmark in DenyList
- use HMA to hide Magisk app, LSPosed and Lsposed modules (apps) from Oprek Detector.
As a result, Oprek Detector will no more find root
Use that as a proof of concept for hiding the root from banking apps (altough, some of them may require additional steps)
Thanks to @HimanshuRaj (his TG support and his SHRP - another thread), I have now both Magisk and permanent TWRP (more precisely, SHRP), both in the patched boot.img:
- fastboot boot to SHRP
- from SHRP, flash SHRP img to Ramdisk -Recovery
- Stay in SHRP and flash the Magisk apk renamed to zip file
Normal booting boots to Sydtem/Magisk and rebooting to Recovery boots to Magisk
Thanks a lot @zgfg for the guide!
I'm going to save this thread as in the future it's possible I will try to root my mobile following your instructions.
Now, one more successful experiment:
- Magisk Alpha notified about the update (to 24102)
- hence I updated the Magisk Alpha app and then took the Direct update for Magisk itself
It updated the boot img, but correctly keeping the previously installed permanent SHRP:
- 'normal' booting boots to System/Magisk
- rebooting to Recovery boots to SHRP
I followed your steps and it works fine, just making sure on how to get permanent SHRP
i have a fully functioning lisa now with magisk and a couple of modules, do i need to redo all of it when trying to install SHRP with your instructions?
and do i flash the patched magisk file or the default app apk?
for context: i tried installing shrp twice and performing backups with it but ended up having to clean install stock rom again, maybe it was because i was missing an sd card but i tried it using a pc and just pulling the backup to and from there

Permanent installation for SHRP (Lisa) was also covered (how-to) in the TG channel (link in SHRP thread, itsvOP post #1).
As said, I have permanently installed both Magisk v24.3 and SHRP v0 2 (from TG channel) into the Boot partition (since there is no Recovery partition) and I can boot into System with Magisk (normal boot) or to SHRP (boot to Recovery, with Vol+)
And in SHRP, Internal memory, USB-OTG and external SD work flawlessly
However, the SHRP supports only MIUI 12.5, (A11) not A12 (MIUI 13)
---
Anyway, more about rooting:
Just installed the Magisk module:
[MOD][Magisk][MIUI][v1.1]ALWAYS on display for Mi 10 Lite (monet)
Hi there! I made this Magisk module to enable more options to choose with the Always on display on monet and not only the annoying option of "10 seconds after tapping". Did it modifying the "AODSettings.smali" file inside an old AOD apk, where...
forum.xda-developers.com
and with that, I can finally use AOD really always (or scheduled), not only for 10 seconds as Xiaomi pushed to MiUI 12.5.8

the question was rather if you flashed SHRP and magisk before or after installing all said modules and LSPosed but since SHRP isnt working it wont help me anymore
alright so i wont be able to use SHRP since i have A12 running the xiaomi.eu roms, thanks for the info!

Boot is /boot partition, Magisk staff (all modules, LSPosed, etc goes to /data partition
Hence the order does not matter.
Everything what is needed was explained above and in the TG channel, hence sorry I will not waste time drawing the architecture again
Anyway, when I took SHRP v0.2, and permanently flashed, I 'lost' Magisk for eg 5 minutes.
I made backup of boot partition in SHRP (it was no more stock but with SHRP), patched Magisk to the backed-up img, went back to SHRP and flashed to Boot. Since then I had back both Magisk patch and SHRP in the Boot, and when I booted back to System/Magisk I had all my 5 Magisk modules, LSPosed and it's 3 modules running
It's all about to understand what goes to different partitions Boot and Data, hence playing with Boot does not affect what was previously installed to Data
Anyway, SHRP is of no use for you (yet), but be aware that there TWRP does not support A12 yet, hence neither the derivatives like SHRP
---
And if you use patch and flash (in fastboot) method, you can install Magisk with no need for TWRP/SHRP
alright thanks, just had to make sure i didnt do stuff wrong and thats why i lost my data, thanks again for the info on TWRP and A12 not (yet) being available which was probably the reason how everything broke
anyone succeeded in rooting miui 13 Indian varient?
kindly share boot image patched
Today I updated my Xiaomi 11 lute 5g ne to MiUI 13 and my root has gone. So I have to use Magisk to patch boot.img. It created patched boot file but when I flash it to my phone and reboot, it freezes on MI logo screen. It didn't work like before. Please help me, thank you.
P/s: when I find rom I saw 2 files: boot.img & boot-gki.img. I only copied boot.img to my phone to patch.

Were you able to figure a way out? I'm in the same situation where I've tried everything to root 13.0.3 and it gets stuck on boot logo everytime.

How do I update rooted rom Android 11 to 12 or 13?

Hello, I want to update my device to Android 12 or 13. This is my device:
xiaomi redmi note 8 pro (begonia)
Miui Global Stable 12.5.7.0 (RGGEUXM)
Android Version: 11 RP1A.200720.011
Bootloader: unlocked
I flashed twrp with BRP3.5.2v3.1. Device is rooted, SafetyNet check in magisk failed.
How do I update to Android 12 or 13 and where do I get the images from or do I have to build them?
Will I still have root access after update?
What are you talking about?
For root:
- Unlocked Bootloader
- Working rom
- By TWRP method: Working TWRP. Flash Magisk.apk
- By Fastboot method: Take boot.img. Patch boot.img. Flash patched boot.img
- Patch vbmeta if you are using Miui. Custom rom don't need this
For pass Safetynet (Magisk v25.2)
- Enable Zygisk
- Enable Enforce Denylist
- Flash Safetynet fix 2.4.0
- Configure Denylist:
+ Google Play Store
+ Google Play Services
- Reboot
- Setting>Apps
- Clear data + storage of 2 Google stuff above
- Check if it show devide certified or not.
Some old rom need to change many props to make rom work. I will not write details here. You can search on YouTube. But i recommend to use new roms to prevent that.

You wrote in https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/soft-brick-bootloop-after-twrp-flash.4570389/ that twrp-3.3.1-0-begonia.img supports Android 9 only. If I want to use TWRP for A11, I should find an unofficial one by searching "brp begonia pling" and choose the one for Miui A11 (v3.6 or v3.5.2_3.1).
How do I know, which twrp is fitting my device? Does 'working' in this case mean, the software is penetrate the system to access recovery mode or something else?

Is it the same patching as mentioned here https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html?
Patching Images
Copy the boot/init_boot/recovery image to your device
Press the Install button in the Magisk card
If you are patching a recovery image, check the “Recovery Mode” option
If your device does NOT have a separate vbmeta partition, check the “Patch vbmeta in boot image” option
Choose “Select and Patch a File” in method, and select the boot/init_boot/recovery image
Start the installation, and copy the patched image to your PC using ADB:
adb pull /sdcard/Download/magisk_patched_[random_strings].img
Flash the patched boot/init_boot/recovery image to your device;
for most devices, reboot into fastboot mode and flash with command:
fastboot flash boot[_x] /path/to/magisk_patched_[random_strings].img or
fastboot flash init_boot[_x] /path/to/magisk_patched.img_[random_strings] or
fastboot flash recovery /path/to/magisk_patched.img_[random_strings],
where [_x] should be _a or _b or empty depending on your device
(Optional) If your device has a separate vbmeta partition, you can patch the vbmeta partition with command:
fastboot flash vbmeta --disable-verity --disable-verification vbmeta.img (note that it may wipe your data)
Reboot and launch Magisk app (you will see a stub Magisk app if you have wipped your data; use it to bootstrap to a complete Magisk app), and you will see a prompt asking for environment fix; click and wait for the reboot
Voila!

What exactly is vbmeta for? For preventing to remove the custom recovery loader? Or do I mistake it with avb close 2.0?

Working rom/TWRP mean rom/TWRP that you can boot on your phone.
Ex: Official TWRP can't boot with your Miui rom. So it's not working TWRP.
For knowing which is suitable TWRP, you need to know all about unofficial TWRP and it's changelog.
Fastboot method: it's working with almost device that don't have TWRP.
Patch vbmeta or avb close 2.0 with do same purpose. You can read about vbmeta in Official TWRP flash guide
Old rom is by date. Google update many stuff but old rom can't catch up.
